From the days of propeller driven engines to the jet age, this is what the late 40's into the 50's felt like, some times the grass is greener on the otherside
ooooh we love a foamy EDF to turbine conversion. Awesome little bird this and the Turbine makes it soooo much more wicked! First saw the SkyFlight/Banana hobby Mig-29 twin 70mm EDF done in Turbine and it was perfect!! No thrust vectoring though lol... Awesome Flying Dom! And Jason.. great camera work! Looks like lovely weather in the UK ATM.. very jealous sitting in the cold here in Sydney! Please more of this!!!
Fantastic video! Keep up the good work!. I have followed this build but did not realise that the g2 turbine is alot bigger than the g3 and is a very tight fit. The Hab turbine conversion kit is fantastic to with very swift shipping. I just wish I had the g3 turbine. Again fantastic build and video and look forward to more converstions!!!!!
Im glad this leap has happened, in the past, having a turbine-driven model was another mortgage on whatever you already had. At least this way the cost comes down a bit. Thanks for sharing Dom. Having one of these models is out of my budget range, but anymore content on conversions or seeing other modelers planes and set ups would be great and appreciated. Just waiting now for the first small scale turbo-prop, hopefully a Spitfire, like the bigger 1/5th or 1/4th scaled planes featured here. Thanks for the share.
awesome video there Dom you could tell you were buzzing on that , for sure it had your adrenaline pumping such a great sound and complete different style of flying - on rails hope to see more turbine action from Essential Rc Real Soon, Cheers and Thanks for a great Show and Jason that was Terrific Cam work Bud, cheers guys. :-)
Nice one Dom. Looks like fun. Sound is awesome of course! One tip I would give is i noticed your nose gear door spring inverted with the fast air flow. Look up the rubber band mod. Can show you on mine. Otherwise should you wish to retract the gear again things can fowl up.
Noticed you started with the tail end into the wind. 9/10 times it doesn’t matter but the tenth time when the jet decides to start weird or there was some extra fuel in the turbine for whatever reason it will blow flames and starting it against the wind like that will blow the flames back up in the plane. Something to watch out for, it happened to me.
Hear what you are saying and agree. Wind was changing directions every 5 minutes yesterday and I did think while I was filming the startup that the model wasn't in right direction...but rather than stop I just pushed on and it started up OK. But will be more mindful in future. A hot start is something I really don't want with this model.
Loved it , been waiting to watch this since you first told us about it , really enjoyed that Dom , flies great awesome job guys , thumbs up from me .................
That was fantastic, congrats on the maiden.. Didnt need much runway to get in the air at all. Thrust to weight ratio looks high.. How much of a weight saving do you get with a foam vs a FG/composite fuse?
Hi many thanks for the great videos. my Avanti arrived this morning the Kingtech will arrive tomorrow, i have a twin wall pipe designed for the freeewing Avanti i also have an 800cc fuel tank could you please tell me the length of yours tank and the capacity please. many thanks Steve.
I can't say for definite Gordon. A 45N should fly a 80-90mm EDF jet well enough but if the 60N fits and isn't too much heavier I would give it serious consideration.
My conversion kit ordered from Hab in Sweden. Do you think it can handle full throttle or would you say go with half throttle till 75%? The edf can crawl with 6s 5000mah, do you know if it has about the same weight and flying handling. I now the 90.000rpm wants to push it from iddle, but does it matter much?
Awesome build! I am in the process of building mine and struggle with should I, or shouldn't I add a UAT? Have you had any issues and do you think it's necessary to add one?
I'm a retiree seriously thinking of going back to work so I can afford toys like this !... :O just an AMAZING SOUND !... wouldn't want to get hit by it on one of those low passes though !... ;)
Nice video !!! i have the same model but i have UAT inside of mine, did you fly without UAT ? did you have some problems ( flame out ) with your system, i'm very intresting with your solution !! :)
No. I've had quite a few fast jets and they don't need a gyro. That's only needed if they get affected by wind or are needed to keep stability in hover or high alpha.
It's a good cheap option for K45. Easy to fly if you can already fly EDF. It will go same speed as 8S EDF but with unlimited vertical on K45. Conversion kit available from HAB.SE but you will need to remove some foam from the inside walls of the intake ducts so can squeeze in the fuel tank.
Yeah...I should maybe have said 'the most economical'. You're looking at close to £2K GBP I think for the whole project less receiver and transmitter but I've not added it up exactly.
unfortunately "cheap" and "turbine" do not go together. The link to the engine is in the Description 1750 EUR today. they get get much cheaper i am afraid

Awesome job and great flight! Looks like it was pretty windy that day, does this have a Gyro in it or flying without? Look forward to more flight vids where you can open her up to see the speed difference between EDF / Turbine.
No gyro but think I will order one from Motion if only to minimise the affect of turbulence on those landings. We're intending to put the EDF and Turbine versions up together. Stay tuned.
I think folks should have a fire extinguisher for electric models during the Summer. The number of crashes and high voltage setups I see...there is bound to be a lipo detonation
A "cheap" way to get into turbine flying? When the engine costs as much as the rest of the model plus the car to get it to the flying field? 🤣 I'm still hesitating to buy one, but I would go to the balsa version of the Avanti S.
Cheapest way or most economical is what I meant obviously!? The balsa and composite versions of airframes are significantly more expensive and do not come in plug and play format. If you want to spend more fine.
@@EssentialRC I mean, if I decide to spend so much money on the propulsion, I would also put an appropriate amount for into the air frame. I have had some foamies too, currently flying one most of the time, because I spend a lot of money for the DJI FPV-System and put it on my old, beat-up 2m Carbon Cub, which gives me a great flying experience 🙃 But in the end, I want it to be in something made of wood 😏
Yes, obviously meant 'relatively' cheap. Some folks think buying a $60 ready to fly P-51 Mustang that includes everything including the transmitter is expensive...so yes, it's all relative.
If we all had £10K disposable income then maybe I would. Not doubt a composite will last longer. Maybe if your puff pastry channel takes off you'll be able to afford one. 🤣

What a fantastic flyer with the turbine conversion! Cheers again for a great video!
Thanks again!
I am going to work toward this, thanks for posting this series, awesome!!
Same, do you have any recommendations on any planes to convert.
Thanks guys for the efforts that you put every day for us to have great contents. 😁
Fantastic. Is this my next project. You boys are costing me a fortune lol. Keep up the great content.
That's the plan Ray !
Great to see at last, well done 👏
Took a while but we eventually found somewhere local to fly it. 😎

On my list for sure, and half throttle is fine by me. Still a foam jet, not sure about the 10pounds thrust and stress on the fuselage or wingparts.
Excellent,thanks.Amazing filming.😎
Beautiful crisp performer 👌
Yes indeed
That's pretty incredible.
Been waiting for this very cool video to appear! Nice work and info on this. Good stuff! AirHammer out!!

I do wonder if it could take the power. I have some small upgrades to do before trying that.

Nope. Not had chance to do that. Maybe when we get out of lock down.

Can't Steve. Its in the jet and I can't remove it. Its from hab.se. Maybe dimensions are on their website
I was wondering if you think that turbine engine would be a good match for the Freewing Stinger 90? or would I need a slightly bigger turbine?
I can't say for definite Gordon. A 45N should fly a 80-90mm EDF jet well enough but if the 60N fits and isn't too much heavier I would give it serious consideration.

Great Flight. I was wondering about how stable it was on landing approach. Was it windy, Or was it trying to tip stall because of the extra weight?
Hell yeah dude!

Not flown it enough to fly it at full throttle. Waiting for better weather.

Very nice....Maybe you mentioned it, I was wondering the weight difference between the EDF version and the Turbine version?
Slightly lighter on take off and lots lighter on landing. We'll weigh them next time out.
Awesome build! I am in the process of building mine and struggle with should I, or shouldn't I add a UAT? Have you had any issues and do you think it's necessary to add one?

Out of curiosity, how much weight does this mod add to the model? Sounds very good!
A little more when fully fuelled but a lot lighter when it lands because it does not need to carry a big battery.
How much did I this cost to convert the avanti (not including the turbine)?
What a beast of a machine! 😍
Does the Plane got a gyro system?
No. I've had quite a few fast jets and they don't need a gyro. That's only needed if they get affected by wind or are needed to keep stability in hover or high alpha.
