I’ve been using the “Ned Rig” for nearly 30 years! It’s amazing to me that some people think it is something new, like the last 10 years or so! It was simply a way for me to cut off the bad part of a straight worm or crawfish bait and hook them with a ball jighead and it worked!

This is an awesome way to rig this bait! It’s my first year experimenting with it but so far it’s probably caught at least half of the fish that I’ve caught so far this year. Really putting up a lot of numbers and surprisingly some big ones bite it too. It’s a lot of fun to throw.

Great video! Last year I started putting my Z-Man Finesse TRD's on the Lifted Jigs EWG 1/16 oz. and it was amazing not getting snagged on everything in the lake! They use a size 1/0 EWG VMC hook and the hookups were great! Keep up the awesome videos!

I fished a kayak tournament last summer and I was pitching around a Texas rigged senko with a 1/8oz tungsten bullet weight. I was getting a lot of short strikes. So I had the bright idea to use trd instead of the senko. So I also used a 1/0 ewg but I used a unpegged 1/16 bullet weight and absolutely crushed them. Now that is my go to over the traditional ned rig.

The zman weedless hooks possibly can miss that one hookup that can be a fish of a lifetime. They are ideal but sometime you just need a different approach. Zman product are amazing and work in so many scenarios but sometimes using zman with different options are more ideal. That is what I'm getting.

In this way the hook point is up instead of down with a normal ned rig. This is the biggest difference i think??

  • @aaronfaulls

Terry, I’ve made a couple small modifications to this rig with some success. Biggest tweak is I use larger-sized snell/salmon egg-style hooks instead of standard offset ones. I Texas rig the hook either at the tip or run it thru the worm about 1/3rd of the way down. Either way works great for the Finesse and Big TRDs.
This technique is no joke. Been a game changer for me last year and so far this season. I was losing untold amounts of money (and time!) in lost/snagged Ned rigs and the minute I switched to this style, I immediately started catching fish and haven’t lost a lure yet.
    Thank you for sharing this!

I’ve never tried the nail weight to make a bed rig, I’ve always just used an EWG Ned hook, the problem I run into (in central Oregon), is a lot of these lakes are super rocky and that mushroom head weight will get lodged in the rip wrap boulders….definitely going to give this a try!!

You can't beat a weedless Ned rig. Fortunately, there's a quick, easy way to get that Texas rig effect without glue, nail weights or complications. Just get Zman's Finesse Bulletz jig heads and follow the simple instructions.on the package. It's even easier than rigging a regular mushroom head, and it maintains the buoyancy of the tail, which is one of Zman's best features.

  • @Twangtown7

What RR says, I just use the hook and make a path as close to the center of the bait as possible. Also, I've played with circle hooks in the nose of the bait opposite the weight. Not quite as weedless but it definitely can hook bass.

Good video I am going to try this, but my question is with the Ned rig. The line is attached to the weight so the line is at the bottom of the bait when it’s
standing up with this set up the line is at the top of the bait, while it’s standing up. Doesn’t the line affect the bite and the look of the bait from the fishes view?

But wouldn’t the weight being at the end, along with the little bit of weight from the hook, almost make the presentation lay down flat? I’ve been throwing the TRD on the same hook “weedless set up” and it still sinks a little bit. Not as much as I’d like so I tried just putting a very small clamp weight just about the hook on the line and was really liking the results. But I like the idea of the weight not being visible. Just wondering if there’s a way to tweak what you’ve done so that the weight is still toward the eye of the hook.

Brother if you hold the weight with pliers heat the weight a bit with a lighter it’ll slip right in by melting it and when it cools it will stay in!🤷🏻‍♂️

Flukemaster does the same way with a senko and it gets bit!! I’ll try this and see. I have used a 1/0 ewg with a 1/8 oz weight and it worked well also

Mike Iaconelli did a video on this same technique a while back but you but I just checked and you beat him on the upload by 6 months. He called this rig a chicken wing though.

I love youtube guys! Lol...it's called a chicken rig, this has been around for a long time. I hope you learn to catch more fish. Tight lines and peace. Thanks again for all the laughs

Christopher Sawczyk I love UA-cam commenters. They criticize absolutely everything yet haven’t posted a single video themselves. I guess you’re saying a chicken rig is anything nail weighted and weedless, including ned rig worms. I wouldn’t lump every soft plastic worm rigged that way into a chicken rig, but each their own. Take a minute and read wired2fish article on what worm they describe as a chicken rig...it’s not this

@@FishhookTerry Thanks for the advice, but that's what you said, not me. This technique has been around for a very long time. If you don't like comments ,or should I say someone educating you, then disable them. Also, I need to make a video to comment on one? Hahaha

Christopher Sawczyk Haha you’re winning the youtube comments today Christopher. Thanks again for having a laugh and correcting me, I look forward to you correcting even more of my videos.

So wait a minute, the nail weight is at the opposite end of where the line is tied? So when you twitch or bounce it the thing will have just a straight up and down action rather than a jigging action like a true ned rig. I would say put the nail weight on the same end as where you're tying the line. I know it would be tricky to insert the nail weight in the same area as the hook but it seems like that's going to give you the truest ned rig action. I think the way you've got it is called a tiny child rig.

Hello Fishhook Terry! Thanks for your helpful video!
    1) What is the Bass Fishing AND Crappie Fishing like in Texas at Lake Medina the week of Thanksgiving? Would you fish the Finesse TRD from Z-Man at that time or use something else for Bass?
    2) And, is it Chilly there the week of Thanksgiving i.e. long sleeves and light-weight jacket for fishing from the freshwater and Saltwater shore-banks?
    3) Also thinking about Saltwater fishing downtown Corpus Christi Jetties that week. Do you also Saltwater jetties fish for Pompano, Gator Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel? I have some Z-Man DieZel minnowz and some artificials for Pompano/other on hand. What do you recommend for coming November fishing in Texas?
    4) Lastly, is it difficult to acquire Out-of-State Freshwater & Saltwater License during this "COVID Porn Time"?
