Probably worth mentioning to people unfamiliar with zman plastics that you need to keep them away from other plastics. Contact with other plastics makes them melt. I always keep mine in the original packaging.
Learned that the hard way...
Learned this yesterday ruined a whole bag
@@ageofgaslightenment me too. I opened up my tackle box and found a science experiment one day
Good to know, I sell them in a baitshop and never knew that.👍
I left 5 packs out in the sun all day and lost all five packs
My wife’s grandpa passed in April last year, and after his passing we acquired 2 of his boats. A super lightweight aluminum boat with a 15 Hp johnson and a slightly larger Lund with a 30 Hp merc. My wife used to fish with her Grandpa when she was little and neither of us had been fishing in years. This fall we went on a bass fishing charter in Florida and had a blast. For my birthday she bought us a ton of equipment with the help of our local small town outdoors shop. I’ve learned so much already from watching your videos for a few days about what everything we got is, and how to rig it and fish it. Thank you for your videos, we cannot wait to get out on the water this year and enjoy a new hobby together!
I’m sorry for your loss 😔
Dude... this video was a game changer for my son and I. Went out yesterday, after three trips getting completely skunked, fished the ned rig, landed seven smallies and had many more drive-bys and hits. Son and I were stoked! Thank you!
P.S. - I dig that you made these videos initially to help your scouts. I grew up in the scout program, spent five years on staff in high school and three years as a cub master and man, such good times!
The strike king Ned bug is my personal favorite! Good for every technique.
Hooked on this mans channel. Getting back into fishing and my old techniques just wasn’t cutting it and been watching this channel for a month and now know about 5 different affective ways to fish and I’m catching fish now. Thank you sir
Been waiting on this video! Been using the ghost tail ned bombs and TRDs like crazy! Lining the hook up with the flat side of the ned bomb tail gives it an amazing glide action on the fall
Legend has it he wears that hat in the shower, while sleeping, and while he’s deep diving. THE GEORGIA HAT HAS NEVER LEFT HIS HEAD
Some even swear that he was either born with it fused to his skull or has become physically attached over time...still deciding which camp I fall into.
Thank you for your informative and excellent description on fishing. I'm new to fishing and its like lerning a completely different language. Especially with what you need for the type of fishing you're going to do. I appreciate your straight to the point approach.
Just came across ur channel, I subscribed to it as well, I appreciate the knowledge that you share with anyone. I grew up in foster homes all my life and never had anyone to really show me the how too like u do, I appreciate you and thanks for the video, look forward to learning more from you
I have to admit. Sometimes I do feel as dumb as a football bat! But thanks gene for all these lessons. Hoping to catch my first bass soon
I recently introduced my wife to bass fishing (I’ve taken her out twice) and she’s already looking to get her own gear. Picking her up a spinning rod this week. Being fairly new to it myself, I wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Just getting into fishing again, and have had a hard time catching anything. Found this video and tried a Ned rig yesterday. Caught 2. Thank you, sir!
Same!!!
Great recap of the midwest finesse rig! Your explanation of the retrieves make perfect sense to me, especially lift/drop. I discovered Ned Bombs this year and they make a terrific 1-2 punch with the TRD. Good stuff - keep it up!
I found that pairing a paddle-tail swimbait with a nedrig is very underrated, caught so many good fish using that method last season, including a PB 6lb Smallie post spawn.
Another great video! Love to see you fishing the rigs you are talking about!
Might want to note that Zman has come out with some Ned style heads that are equipped with an EEG style hook. This allows you to rig the ned in a weedless style.
Definitely agree on the weed guard tip, I’ve missed a few hook sets this year , pretty sure that’s the issue and I didn’t even think about it!! Thanks for the tips!
4:23 FG knot was a game changer for me. Love how it flies through the guides
Awesome video! I’ve been working over working my Ned rigs I just need to slow it down a lot !! Thanks for the tips 👍🏻
Love your tip videos man! It always help to land extra fish when the bite is tough 🙌🏾
Thanks Christopher
Great tips as usual. Thanks from Western Kentucky.
Thank you for this great information I'm just trying to learn this method 👍 Have a Blessed Day 🙌
Really informative as always, thanks for sharing Gene 💯
My pleasure!!
Just tried out the ned rig for the first time and got my new PB within 5 mins at the pond, thank you!
Learned how to tie the FG knot from your video last year! Now I trust it more than the main line!
He described it best I learned this year and took me 30 mins- 45 mins to figure out the best method. After practice you can get it down to
I have to say ive been loving the ned rig and hair jigs on my new curado BFS. Im addicted to small and micro baits after buying it
I’ve become a ned rig believer this year. Wacky was always my default for finesse, but I’ve started really figuring out when the ned is the juice, and yes…big bass absolutely will smash it. My conversion came when I jokingly went out with my daughter’s 2.5’ zebco dock demon and a ned rig on 4lb mono, and caught 11 bass in an hour at a spot I’d struggled to find more than a couple reaction bites at. 😂
I’ve also recently started incorporating more of a power-ned situation with the z-man EWG ned head with a ⅛ - ¼th lure and a cut-r ned worm rigged weedless on my baitcaster with 15lb flouro. It honestly fishes like a dream, and I’ve pulled some donkeys out of cover with it. Hookup ratio is surprisingly good too! Highly recommend that lure over the weedless ness.
Great info for someone getting into bass fishing!
Thanks for videos. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the tips and advice, great presentation.
I just bought the tackle for a Ned rig and was going to go through your videos to see how to fish this better! Perfect timing!
Glad I could help!
I've caught a lot of fish dead sticking a Ned Rig. I was fishing for Smallmouth on the Snake River in Idaho, I set my rod down to get a sandwich out of my cooler, when I picked up my rod I had a fish on. Happened a second time so that's how I fished it that day. I've done it several times since.
Fishing for about 4 or five years now but been getting into bass fishing the past year ned rig works great for me drop shot does to started using wacky rig last year an had success Still haven't caught a Texas rig bass but I love the ned rig .
Learned to tie the FG from your video and it is the only connecting knot that I will use! Thanks!!
Excellent!
Awesome video. Great dissection here on midwest finesse.
Thanks Gene. The TRD CrawZ is great on Spots too
Thank you so much, I could feeling hot weather.
I've been strictly a walleye/crappie/muskie angler most of my life, usually on a annual trip to Canada. My local lake in Missouri is Bass/bluegill so I figured i'd give bank bass fishing a try, found your channel about a week ago, after a couple of hours bass fishing for the first time with no luck, I remembered this video and sure enough caught my first bass within 5 minutes of tossing on a ned rig!
"When the fishin's bad, you'll take anything." True Words
My biggest fish on the Ned Rig are a 7.5 lb bass on a 1/0 oz. ZMAN head with TRD Finesse worm and a couple of 12+ catfish on the Big TRDs. Great fun on light line (I only use 6- or 8-pound test).
There is a new ZMan Ned rig with the same VMC #1 EWG hook that they use on there Finesse Bullets. They were hard to find. Got some from Tackle Warehouse and have use them in and around grass on Guntersville with some success. It is much stiffer hook some tighten drag and a moderate hook set.
Offset worm hook Texas rigged is amazing as well zman changed my fishing 🎣 game for life
Thanks for the content Gene, i love your tips and tricks on every video. God Bless and tight lines out there
I appreciate that
@@Flukemaster anytime
Gonna try the Ned rig for the first time next week up in northern Idaho on Priest Lake. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 for tons of fish 🎣!
Enjoyed it and indeed i learned a lot thanks
Thank you Gene great video
Man...I haven't caught a bass over 1lb in about 3 years, I need to come fish with this guy
😂😂 I'm telling you!! I've been fishing for a little over a year (when I have the time) and I don't think I've even caught a 2 pounder yet (no scale, so I'm not certain). I'm catching fish, just not these giants that these guys casually and consistently pull out of the water 😅
The ned never lets me down...one of my favorite rigs
I've thrown a ned rig like 10 times at the most, and then I switched back to a spinner because the spinner bite was a little more active, but I did catch one trout on a pink TRD that I snipped about a half inch off of. I I'll definitely revisit this rig next time I go out.
Started using the ZMan Big TRD with 1 inch from the back end snipped in 2 vertically with scissors and it absolutely KILLS bigger smallmouth here up north. I've also experimented with cutting the Big TRD (from the tail) down to 3/4 inch past the hook bend to create a "mini" TRD (snipping the tail in 2 again) and it also works like a charm. What can I say, sometimes they like it big, sometimes they like it small. But having a range of lengths never hurts. Ps, with the mini-TRD, try shaking the slack from side to side. Another bizarre technique that works great in river pools.
I’ve had some strike king ned kits laying around I’m gonna have to try them out now
As you were demonstrating the first technique I tried it and caught my first large mouth with it. Just tried it today. You were playing in the background. Lol thanks
Great video very informative worked pretty well for me
A lot of great information , thanks for the video keep them coming 👍
Thanks, will do!
Shimano curado BFS and the Dobyns sierra ultra Finesse casting series if you want to fish a Ned on bait casting gear. Yes casting distance is a bit shorter but its been great so far especially if your fishing creeks and ponds where I’m really trying to hit specific spot.
Thank you so much, if nobody ever told me, I probably would not have tried anything other than a stick bait on a Ned rig. I have some tiny flukes that I've been wanting to use differently and now I can't wait to try them on a ned head
My favorite bass rig by far
Great video resource dude 👍
Great tips thank you
I catch a ton of fish on the ned but all my water bodies are extremely weedy. So I never use anything but the ewg ned hooks. You gotta tighten your drag down a little more to get a good hookset but I rarely loose fish.
New subscriber. I really like your content. Thanks!
Darn....just dumped snow in CO, def not catching fish, going anyway. Love ur vids
Great tips thanks!
Great info bro!
Great videos for the beginners like me
I learned a TON haha thank you will be on the water at sunrise
Great video! I saw your Grand Teton shirt, you should check out the Grand Teton Horse and Stagecoach Adventure. It was an awesome experience!
Works wonders with BFS. 5’9-7’0 UL, L, ML Casting Rod. 6lb Copolymer
very cool thx man
i just learned what plastisol is because of you. There is a whole entire wikipedia page about it! haha awesome. The rubbery plastic-ee stuff used to make lures
Always so simple and clear when explaining things specially new fisherman like it is my case, I really appreciate it. Btw that background looks like Lanier, GA. Is it? Regards.
Great Video!
Ned Rig is my go to bait in general. I have a rod and reel set specific for them in my kayak.
What setup do you have rigged to throw them? I've been looking at getting me a setup for them
I've caught some pretty good bass on tough days with the Ned rig. I have a love/hate relationship with ZMAN.
Great video, I had my line break on me as I was reeling one in. I hate when that happens. I think I had the drag to tight.
Not sure if you know about this trick Gene but if you rig the Ned bait on the jig head ( must be elaztec or a similar plastic) you can make the bait stay in place without glue. You simply leave the bait back from the jig head enough to slip the point of a hook in through the front and out the top, maybe a 1/16 of an inch. You then pull the hooked portion and slip it over the eye of the jig head and slide the hook back out. The tension will keep the bait pulled forward and then you finally tie it to your line and you are ready to go. I do believe Bryan Latimer , “ B Lat” has a video on this.
Caught my pb Salmon and Norther in the same day on a Ned this last weekend.
Hell of a fight.
Flukemaster with the sound effects 'drags on the bottom and doik' good video brother.
Glad you enjoyed
@4:38 “Dumb as a football bat!” OMG I’m using that from now on! 😂😂😂😂👍
I use the shroomz hooks with the weed guard and don’t have problems missing that many fish.
Gene spitting knowledge and talking Ned Rigs automatic like...Ned Rig For Life Baby!!
I've had success with the TRD Bugz myself... Also the Punch Crawz both either green pumpkin or Junebug. Punch crawz in Black blue.
I personally prefer the Yucatan leader knot. If using flouro a Bimini twist with it. Arguably the strongest leader knot out there. Very popular with blue fin and Marlin chasers
I have never been sensor by them but if you are fishing in areas that have weeds and other debris, this is the bait the ned rig will not be the best in those conditions. I a 69 nine years old and in central Florida. I learned to use this in Bass tournaments in Upstate NY. This is what my favorite bait is. I also used to be a bass fishing guide in a very tourist area in Central Florida for 8.5 years. What is my favorite bait? I use a Charlie Brewer, 1/8 oz Spider Slider head tournament rig, with a Berkley 4" finesse worm. You do not have to use that finesse worm but anything that is small like a Charlie Brewer 4" worm works great also. This is my favorite finesse worm rig for over almost 50 years. If I was fishing with you in your boat, and fishing was slow, this is what would be using.
Ive been taking 10 minutes sometimes rigging a trd straight…. You make it look so easy lol
I throw them on a Baitcaster and have no issues. Run a Dobyns Champion 702c rod with a JDM Shimano SLX BFS reel. There are reels out there made for ultralight stuff.... Caught a 6lb bass on a TRD
I have a spinning rod it’s a ugly stick I love it I’ve had it since 2000 I use braided 20 lb test spider wire
The ned rig is my favorite, i catch bluegill, bass, crappie and by accident trout and catfish. On some 6 pound line with a light rod is how I fish it makes them crappie fish like monsters.
Ned Bomb very reminiscient of the old Sting Ray grub by Manns
Thanks for this info. How do we prevent the Ned from getting stuck in rocks ??
Have you tried the Zman finesse Bulletz jighead. I love a Ned rig but dang they get hung up in rock crevices a lot. I have found that the Bulletz jighead works pretty much the same (and is killer with a zman small craw) and it rarely gets hung up because you can skin hook that work to keep it weedless.
I've been catching snakeheads on the missile baits ned bomber fire combo
I laughed pretty hard when you said “dumb as a football bat” haha
Man I bought this pole got it today went braid to fluro leader and paired it with a 3000 size reel fished the Ned rig on it today and got 5 bass and one was a 5lber .
That's awesome!!
@@Flukemaster thanks for all your tips !
Is there any reason you can connect the lines with a barrel swivel as opposed to the FG knot? Just curious if it’s better to connect the 2 lines directly to each other rather than using a swivel.
Just to back up your point..caught my pb yesterday on a ned rig. Just under 7lbs
So is a grub a good Ned bait or would that be something else altogether? Need to use up those Mister Twisters
I live in the Chattanooga area. What is generally a good color bait for fishing ponds and creeks with the Ned Rig. I have just gotten back to fishing after 10 years of not touching a rod and have purchased some Ned tackle
Love to fish a Ned rig
Another neat trick for my ned rigs is getting some cheap 2.5” tubes with a skirt and putting them on the bait keeper first, then adding the worm or whatever you’re using. A 15pk of tube skirts is like $3 vs. a pack of skirts that’s like $5 and only comes with 2-4 skirts. You’re welcome 😉
Brian Latimer says that if you want a weedless Ned rig you can use a weighted wacky hook and Texas rig your TRD on that
