My aunt Dee!!! She was the older sister to my mother’s mother. She was always as fiery and fierce as she is here. Loving and joyful as a colorful aunt, but down to earth and down to business. While she didn’t end up in fashion, her artistic skills were always a signature part of her love. I remember every birthday card to my brother and me were hand drawn. When Christopher Reeves started in Superman (‘78), aunt Dee painted the largest mural of the hero crashing out of our bedroom wall in Far Rockaway, Queens. And when you saw her at the holidays, she was often donned in leather pants, a leather bombers jacket and her hair was always some new and interesting color. She was my mother’s favorite aunt and she was an amazing, happy character to my brother and me. I’m blessed to say she lived to receive this honor and recognition for 6888 (and I was able to introduce her to her grand niece, my daughter). She was truly an amazing woman. Love always, Aunt Dee.
I feel so fortunate to hear your Aunt Dee’s inspiring remarks here. She more than makes up for the lacking interviewer. Interviewer shows 0 knowledge about prejudice in America, in American military, etc. These women were hidden she-roes and were not recognized nationally for their outstanding duties until fairly recently - 2022 Congressional Medal of Honor. Also, researchers have mentioned that many of the service records of all black battalions (segregated until after WWII) are strangely missing from military archives. Not an accident I believe, but attempt to hide their contributions despite bias they faced in mil service. Lastly, thanks for your additions about her great artistic talents and how she was known to share them with (“loving joyful, fiery, fierce…”) your family! And share her ever-present style and fashion forwardness too. She lived a life that still rises, made history and that makes all Americans proud.
Ms. Deloris Ruddock attended Cardozo Senior High School along with my Mother who informed me today of her passing. It was both my pleasure and honor to know her and watch them share their friendship with me. It was extremely difficult for my mom to request I represent her at her memorial service. I shall be there!!! Take thy well-earned rest sweet angel!!!
This was one of the best interviews of an African American female veteran who served in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. She is so upfront and direct. I appreciate that. As she stated in this particular interview, only five left and she is one of them that is still quite active for her age. That’s a blessing in itself.
It has taken 70 some years for the men who fought and their friends/family to come to know what these women have done for them. Thank you ladies for your service.

This lady looks like and reminds me so much of my mom who died the year President Obama was elected as the first Black President of the US. I have laughed so hard that this video has cheered me up and also has reminded me that mom and I will be reunited in heaven someday. This lady is a national treasure
This was a great interview. Ms. Deloris is so hilarious. 😂The interviewer ask some great questions🎉 She never went into her fashion field and I did at a young age , feeling so connected to her because of this production. 😊 I'm going back in and making sure to share their stories through my clothing and art. Sending everyone thoughts of love, peace, wellness and success 🎉And keep following your dreams, it might take time but she shows... Dreams 💭do come true ✨️🤞🏾🙏🏾💯😊
She was my aunt. Sister to my grandmother. She would have been VERY pleased to know anything about her story served to further connect you to your art. Art was extremely important to her and remained so all the life I knew her. Your comment made me smile, so thank you and bless you.
@@strichards5337 Bless you and your loved ones up. It is great to know that her bloodline still exist and can share with us, the people. We all are better off by knowing their stories. I watched so many videos about them, I feel like I know them. She had me laughing so hard in one of the reunion interviews hosted by the military. They would ask a question and her response was like a🎯. She would respond, "we were in the Army, we had a job to do, we did our jobs, that's it!"Her eating this made showed me how strong her mindset is. Your family has an iconic hero and wish you all energy full of love, peace, wellness and success. 🫂
@@Biz2Zen thank you, truly. Yeah, Aunt Dee was something else. To my brother and me, she never mentioned 6888. I didn’t learn till they recognized the five remaining woman from the company. I can assure you, her answers and her speech patterns were 100% Aunt Dee. She didn’t change one inch for these interviews. Thank you for your post! For everyone here and their kind words. When the Netflix movie is released later this month, I will make sure to share this post with my daughter so she can enjoy the strength she stems from and the regard folks like you have for that character.
The sad part is as a 70 yr old I never knew about them ,just like Hidden Figures with the ladies working at NASA ,and the 6888 I never read about them and many others that did a awesome task. Growing up and sitting in history class slaves and slavery is all we were taught about, the underground railroad and George Washington Carver but learning about pilots, and doctors, lawyers, Navy divers, the 6888 and all the honorable, and amazing things we have done but I am sure that was all by design.

The woman was drop dead gorgeous, and she knew it. She was my aunt. Sister to my grandmother. She was sassy and stylish. She was often in leather; pants and jackets; and OG Cool in a way I didn’t appreciate till I was much older. To adolescent and teenage me, she was simply “cool Aunt Dee.”
