    But the strange thing was, there's a memorial for the free french navy & merchant navy.
    But nothing for the 100 and thousands of Americans came to the war through Greenock.

    I served in the Air Force (formerly the Army Air Corps) for 25 years and my first job was Postal. The 6888th has made me even more proud of having served in that capacity and I respect and honor these women, these soldiers, in a way that words cannot express. It angers me that, even in the military, the 6888th was never mentioned or taught as a part of our history. Thanks Tyler Perry.

    • @Uplift2023
      @Uplift2023 19 днів тому +21

      It's a shame the Air Force didn't educate you and other's about the history of your first job. Goes to show that their sacrifice for this country is unrecognized by the very organization (military) that doesn't care anything about them or other's. Damn shame.

      @Uplift2023 being honest with you, and respectful of your sentiments, I have been to multiple military schools. 1. They generally don't teach history. If you go to postal school, they teach the postal job. Nothing else. 2. The history that is taught is generally combat related. I'm telling you this as a fan of the 6888th that already knew who they were before Netflix. Being noncombatants, their story would likely only come up in February or March for Black History or Women's History months. Not here advocating for either way just relaying how it usually works.

    • @Uplift2023
      @Uplift2023 16 днів тому +3

      @odgreen5655 Thank you for your insight and for sharing it with me. I appreciate it. Stories like this come out because of the advocates who make the story know. It was a Black man who first recognized what these ladies did and pushed hard to give them recognition. It just shows, to me and others, that the military continues to operate in racism by not recognizing the great and vast contributions of Black people who have served this White country. ❤️

    • @odgreen5655
      @odgreen5655 15 днів тому +5

      @Uplift2023 The 6888th unfortunately is the only women's unit I'm familiar with. There are several more you might be interested in looking at including the Montford Marines (first Black Marines), the 761st Tank Battalion (served under Patton in WWII), the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion (Triple Nickels), of course the Buffalo Soldiers, and one of my favorites..the Harlem Hellfighters of WWI. No one is or will be more interested in our stories than us! Many of us look at the Armed Forces as the "white man's thing" but you have to also ignore our involvement in ALL OF IT to come to that conclusion. Happy researching. There are more stories to inspire and motivate you out there!

    Thank God for you and your fellow volunteers. My Dad left for Europe as a tank repairman and had to leave my mother in Texas with me in her womb. They wrote countless letters to each other and I am sure you or some of your mates handled those letters. You allowed them to make the distance between them shrink. Dad would be shipped to Okinawa after VE day and was quite relieved when the atomic bomb was dropped before he landed there. The war ended when he was waiting to debark while the troop ship was in the harbor. His mail caught up with him eventually (thanks to you) and he was finally discharged in March of 1946. He and I got to meet then when I was 6 months old. Your generation truly saved the world! I love you like a sister! :) He worked in Michigan at General Motors as a tool and die maker. At his funeral several women and African Americans who worked for him told our family how he treated them very well. They all said he was a good man.

    I cried throughout Tyler Perry's/Netflix's "The Six Triple Eight." This MASTERPIECE is OUTSTANDING! This will be a film that will keep on giving for generations to come. We will see adaptations in the theater and other genres. Kerry Washington deserves an OSCAR for her performance here.
    I'm always humbled, astounded and impacted by the strength, resilience, brilliance, achievements, dutifulness, perseverance, commitment, dedication, devotion and diligence of our African American ancestors. What a respectful, angelic and BEAUTIFUL tribute to them by Tyler Perry in "The Six Triple Eight." WELL DONE. ❤️
    Despite the evil, lies, tricks, sabotage, torment, torture, racism, harassment, nastiness and disrespect of yt supremacists/yt terrorists-the oppressors-our ancestors continued on their missions, journeys and assignments. They survived degradation and denigration. They worked hard and laser-focused to chart a path for their/our success. They always managed to exceed the goal posts, although they weren't made privy to them. They continued to fight for justice, fairness and humanity, although they didn't see, feel, or experience these things. And, THEN, there’s US...
    To this day, we continue to walk in their footsteps; channeling their brilliance. We continue to tread in their blood, hard work and successes as we strive and work to form a more perfect Union. We continue to fight the evils of racism, while at the same time, pushing forward.
    I'm SO VERY PROUD to be BLACK!
    THANK YOU! ❤️

    It's amazing to understand and learn about the people behind the scenes and especially in this case where the delivery of mail is a necessity and should have been. I commend her on her service and commitment to get this done and for such a serious morale booster for the troops receiving anything. I can't imagine the difficulties trying to get this done. She is awesome!

    Sad to know that our Mail System today pails in comparison to the operation efficiency of the 6888. Government made a huge mistake when our Postal System was expected to operate as a for profit agency. Ridiculous. Anything to gut the USPS to give rise to the FedX and UPS! OMT. Everytime a billionaire is selected to play a role, it steals food out of the mouth of a struggling actor. Kudos to Tyler for bringing this story to the masses. Many of our fathers served in WWII. And to think that USAA was a private Insurance Company founded to insure military officers, when other Insurance Companies declined to insure them; then USAA expanded to insure enlisted military persons and their dependents but dependents of Black Enlisted Men and Black Enlisted Women from WWII were not originally afforded the opportunity to be insured by USAA. If you are reading this post my message to you is NEVER EVER FORGET that “ALL MEN AND WOMEN ARE CREATED EQUAL…..!”
