    Fantastic trip in this episode, waterfalls and ice cream simply lovely. The park up by the heated toilet block would be a dream in the UK and I doubt that it would stay nice for long. Even though you didn't get to stay overnight in the high rocks and cloudy pull in, it made for some good atmospheric footage.

    It used to be that you could spend the night everywhere. But then there were so many tourists who threw the rubbish out of the cars before moving on. No use putting out litter boxes. Often the parking spaces are on private property, and it is the owner who has to clean up. Then you understand why they don't want overnight parking

      @@LifeistooshortCK I think its also that they wish people pay for stay at camp grounds to have employees, and get money to service the parking lots. someone is have to pay to have someone to check, and clean all the free service houses, and toilets and take trash from parking spaces,

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  Рік тому +4

      Surely that is already paid for through tolls and taxes ? I know here in the UK there is huge pressure from campsite owners on local councils to prevent wild camping as they have businesses to protect. Trouble is campsite fees have become an expensive joke that has turned a once cheap pastime into an expensive luxury. Campsites are full of rules, unhelpful arrival and departure times and full of constant noise from leaf blowers, tractors etc. We used them for 25 years but not any more. The money we save now gets spent in the local shops and restaurants 😁👍

    It has been interesting watching you two traveling around S.W Norway. I worked in Alesund in 2019 and drove there from Surrey via Calais, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and up into Norway. I took the Summer Solstice off to head North near the North Cape. I took the time to visit Trollstiggin, Maelstrom, Arctic Circle Center and the Arctic Circle race track.
    Such a beautiful Country to drive around!

    Yes in Denmark our camper vans are classified as a normal car. We don't camp, we rest. Camping happens in camp sites where you can fold out your awning, chairs , tables and grill. Some rest places turn a blind eye. Rule of thumb, if you are going to sit outside and grill, make sure you pack it away before bedtime.

    My wife and I used to joke about when driving around in our little Nissan Micra and the passenger would always shout “clear” at junctions. However since moving to West Sussex from London we humbly have realised what a sensible system Ken and Carol have and are so glad we use it now. Our only problem now is that we don’t actually know what the passenger is supposed to call out to the driver when it isn’t clear at a junction. Has Ken ever stated on this channel what they do in that situation?

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  Рік тому +1

      I have only stated what must never be used and that is the word NO. NO can be mistaken for GO and so we were taught in the Police never to use that. Carol will quite often call CAR, BIKE etc which then means I have to have sight before I can move. Best to just say STOP which will force the driver to look.
      I always look both ways as well as asking for help. In the police the observer would look left and shout clear to allow the driver to concentrate on traffic coming from the right during an emergency response. However, the driver always bears responsibility for any accident regardless of what the passenger said. 😁👍
      Carol would often say car coming you decide but to be honest I don’t like that as I still have to look and make a decision myself.

    Happy New Year to you both, shame the weather's broke for you, but you've been very lucky up to now, and the mist did look good in the video. I was wondering if you have ideas of changing your van any time soon, I did notice in your last video Ken was looking hard at that small motorhome. I was chatting to the owner of a Sussex Camervans NV300 a couple of weeks ago, he loves it, same size as my Hillside Leisure Renault Trafic (Kermit) we compared notes. It would certainly give you that bit more space without giving up that car like parking space. Take care, looking forward to seeing your adventures of 2023.

      We like to look at other vans but are currently in love with our NV200 because we can park anywhere. We have recently noticed some UA-camrs are beginning to downsize their vans 😁👍

    Interesting you are finding it harder to find park ups. The Isle of Man Government seem to be clamping down on it also. No overnight camping signs are popping up everywhere. They don't appear to want tourists visiting our island, or at least they want to make it difficult unless you pay for a campsite of which there are very few...

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  Рік тому +1

      Judging by the comments it seems this area gets very busy with tourists in the summer. As more and more people are buying motorhomes/campervans and more people are changing their lifestyle and living in vans this will become more of a problem. Sorry to hear the Isle of Man Government are clamping down aswell, we had such a great time there.

    I checked a bit about overnight stays at rest areas and NAF writes:
    "Basically, you have the right to park and spend the night at rest areas, but there is usually a time limit of one day for overnight stays. It is important to show consideration and respect the time limits."
    but I do understand that it is not pleasant when a "no camping" sign is put up by the locals.

      Thanks for checking and letting us know, Erik. That is how we understood the rules to be regarding staying the night in rest areas. We were surprised to see the signs but we only encountered them in that area around Flåm as far as we can remember ☺️

    In that type of weather with fog and rain you can see trolls up in the mountains if you look carefully for them, not so easily and spot. Well that kind of weather is what provides the breeding ground for scary stories :)

      After a few days it’s no harder than usual. You just need to angle your car more at certain junctions. Fast slip roads are the most difficult as you have to rely on your mirrors

    Hello 🖐. I too visited Steinsdalsfossen (1 month before you did), but there was such heavy rain and wind that it was impossible to walk behind that waterfall without getting drenched 😉. And the water that came from the waterfall itself was very strong. Did you change your upload time only today? Have a great weekend

    Absolutely stunning! Was interesting to see you getting off the main road as we've been wondering about that. It looks like every bit of habitable or workable land is utilised so actually getting into wilder areas to park up/camp might not be that easy? Is that how it feels?

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  Рік тому +1

      Yes it did feel like that. The park ups weren’t as remote as we were expecting. It may be different as you go further north in the country where it is less populated.

    Lead to a *really* high energy price this fall.
    They're low again now though where I live.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  Рік тому

      I guess that is a downside of hydro electric power that we don’t experience where we live.

    • @Luredreier
      @Luredreier Рік тому

      @@LifeistooshortCK We've been offsetting that with energy trade with the continent most years.
      Nuclear power from Sweden and Finland and wind energy from Denmark, and in a pinch fossil fuel power from Germany the Netherlands etc.
      Heck, when the power is cheap there we can even pump up water higher up storing that cheap energy.
      That said, the energy market hasn't exactly been condusive to that this year.
      Instead of buying cheap energy and pumping up water we've been selling power to the continent depleting our water from dams that usually takes a couple of years to empty.
      Combined with the dry weather in the south and the prices ended up 50x normal prices at times even up here where we've had a decent amount of rain.
      And this is in a country where we *need* electricity to avoid freezing.
      But yeah, looks like we're through the toughest part.
