I watched all kinds of videos and spent hours not been able to get this belt on . I watched this video and I had the belt on in 30 seconds. Thank you.
Nice to see you do this without any fancy tools, the same way one rolls on a bicycle chain. Some companies really push their little tool, presumably for smaller pulleys.
I second that. A lot of things can be done without special tools. Young guys get caught up in the rabbit hole of specialty tools till they're broke.
thank you, straightforward and clear. appreciate it man. how to videos should be like this.
Good job stretching. The close up camera work was balls on. Smashed👍
Straight to the 👉 point. Simple, well explained. Thanks so much I'm replacing a belt on 2016 GMC 6.0 gas. Same as what you show. 👍🏽😃
Do you happen to recall why you had to change the belt? Was it making a weird noise? Thanks having a issue 2017 2500hd, can't figure out noise. Thanks
@jessemendoza2991 No noise I just replaced it because the front pulley was leaking. So I figured I might as well replace ac belt too since it's easy to repair now. Oil was leaking no noise though.
Do you mind me asking which belt you ordered? I Want to switch to a stretch belt but can’t find one. Same vehicle
I wanted to give you a sincere thank you for this vehicle Repair tip it totally saved my frustration level from spiking through the roof LOL
Always happy to help thank you for watching!
Can’t believe how tight these go on. Glad I’ve avoided them this many years until today. Thanks for the tips
Thanks so much man!!!!! Very simple and perfectly explained. I was worried about how I would replace it on my car without the special A/C belt tool but I was able to replace the belt on a 6.2 LS3 in just a few minutes after watching this.
This video helped me end a one hour stall in a water pump job, thanks a ton
Can't thank you enough man. I was starting to get passed off but this method worked perfectly.
I did do one step correctly I cut the GD belt off and continued on w my oil pump.
Thank you for your time to show us know it all's that you never really know it all
😂😂😂😂
This worked for me on my 2011 Ford f150 5.0. I didn't have as much room behind the crank wheel, but I got to slip behind it enough to get it on the AC pulley. I used 3 heavy duty zip ties and took my time turning the crank pulley. It went on, but I had to rotate back and forth to get it into the groves on the pulley wheels. Thank you so much for this video! I did it in half an hour!
I use a heavy duty zip tie through the balancer to hold the belt, that way my hand is free to hold the belt on the compressor side.
Good idea.
Smart idea
This was the major difference for me as I am a loner and ran out of hands
You the real MVP! Just did this now. So easy with the zip tie. Thank you so much for this tip
You’re a genius man I’ve been tearing my hair out for an hour and a half and this just worked
It's so simple yet super affective! I wish I would've seen this before I put mine on, this video would've saved me hours!!
This video just saved my life. God bless you!!!!!! 🙌🏾🙏🏾
Glad it helped. Thank you for watching!
I love you. Seriously you saved my vacation without ac... 🙏🏻
Glad the video was able to help you save your vacation that’s awesome! Thank you for watching!
Beautiful video, nice and simple. Installed my new stretch belt from the top of the truck in about 5 minutes once I got the right angle to hold the belt tight on the AC compressor. Thanks!!
Glad the video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
Just encountered this type for the first time. I totally clueless! Had to get help lol
The best video for this type of AC belt
Great camera angle and simple explanation!
Thank you!
Good video. I went clockwise and had very little problems I was shocked lol. Thanks. Also I went from the top no problem 13 avalanche.
Also. Mine was 15/16 socket.
That's exactly wt I would try to do,now I know it's possible watching your video thanks!!!
You got this. Thank you for watching!
Use zip ties around the belt through the harmonic balancer and as you rotate the engine the belt will go right on
Awesome tip!!! F*** YEAH!! I was trying to do it with the belt in front of the pulley and not behind and it wouldn't work. You are very smart sir lol
Thank you!!
I gotta say, great instructions! Thank you.
Best video ever.
Very Helpful technique 👍Thank you for sharing
Thanks saved me some time
Thank you for watching!
Thank you Brian!!
@@MoJoeRyhsen thank you for watching!
Thanks a lot for this video saved me lots of time
Thank you for watching!
I start with the belt on the crank pulley. works great
Appreciate the technic. I sure wish you would have said which engine you are working on. I am out of town, don’t have my tools, I need to buy the socket, extension and ratchet with the belt. Guess I’ll keep looking.
thanks never did this type of belt install
YOU'RE A LIFESAVER!

Thank you!
Great tip...!! Thanks Brian.
Thank you!
Great video thank you!!
You know you can put a belt tensioner and regular belt I did yesterday to my tahoe no more stress or getting pistol of trust me it works perfect just by the belt tensioner with the nw belt in Amazon good to go I did it no more stress works like if it was factory
Beautiful video. Well done sir. I myself have subscribed to you
You ...are.....awesome.
Nice vid. These stretch belt designs are some of stupidest things these car manufacturers come up with it's a real pain to work on cars equipped with them, speaking from 1st hand experience.
Anyone have a link on where to order it
Awesome!!! Thanks!!
Thanks bro. that was great.
Working on my 2013 6.2 just changed the idle pulley and tension about to cut this ac belt off about to follow your lead wish me luck
thank you very much i was wondering how i do it
Thank you for watching!
Usually there is a peace of metal hold the belt for you with the crank comes in the same new belt box.
Thank you … my belt had oil residue on it and walked off and shredded!
Awesome!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
Thanks
thanks a million
Thank you for watching!
you are the best
Thank you!
Sweet video brother but where do you get the flux belt what part number please
Glad you like the video. I don’t have the part number sorry. I would check with your local parts supplier.
@@HowtoAutomotive I was trying to convert an 07 Tahoe to that but I don't know if it's the same belt. Thank you
Just watched your video and it got me confused because my 08 Denali has a tensioner for the ac belt. Should I run the tensioner or gamble with a stretch belt and delete the tensioner altogether??
I was hopeful about this method, but unfortunately it didn't work. The most annoying thing is the 24mm bolt is rounded so the socket falls off constantly. You need 3 hands to do this.
What did work was a small wrench under the belt with the box end turned out. But unfortunately once it was on the crank side, the belt slipped into the crack behind the a/c pulley. Which meant I had to reverse the engine to get the belt out, which is bad.
However, I did eventually get it to stay on.
I just read about the zip tie method. I'll try that next time.
How simple 😌
Amazing.
Thank you!
Oddly enough the a/c compressor still has threaded holes for the belt tensioner.
No tensioner ?
So apparently these are also on some of the Isuzu NPR with the GM gas engine.
Yup I love me some GM😏
Other than using stretch belts instead of a simple tensioner🙄
Can you throw off the timing on your motor by turning the crack?
No it’s perfectly fine to crank the engine by hand.
Dumb question but I’m a broke kid and can’t afford to replace my compressor okay so, I’m pretty sure my compressor is seized since the small “strech belt” seems to be just rubbing against it with no movement on the pulley and a horrible squealing noise i believe it just connects back to the crank I have a serpentine belt which powers the water pump, alternator etc… but what I’m wondering is if I can unplug the ac clutch connector from the compressor and cut the small belt off completely and just leave it off since I can’t afford the compressor as I mentioned. Am I able to still drive it this way without obviously having no ac would I be damaging my engine or anything?
No. Your engine will be fine. I just drove 500 miles, with some of those at high speeds, and it ran better than ever
Thx
What are the exact tools you used?
Now being a mechanic since I was old enough to loose my father's 3 tools hammer, pipewrench and a bigger hammer, you think I would have been smart enough to watch this video instead of spending 2hrs loosing every impossible to get bolt on the compressor knowing dam well it has to adjust!
A f#@!%$# stretch belt ?? Now I have honestly seen it all and I'm seriously thinking it's time to retire!!
Dumb question probably but does this affect the engine at all rotating the pulley?
No it will not hurt anything
cool
I should buy you a beer
Underneath the video tab there is ja like, dislike, share and there’s a thanks button that you can add a tip.
What’s the part number for that belt please
How tf do you guys get you're on so easy?
Rotate the engine ? Are you messing with timing ? Sorry idk do I have to do anything special when I'm done putting on new belt or is that it im just free to drive ?
The AC and drive belt have nothing to do with timing of the engine. So it’s ok to rotate the engine.
@@HowtoAutomotive ok thx for the response 👍
You can rotate the engine clockwise, but if you rotate the engine counterclockwise and there's a problem with the timing chain/belt tensioners, it could potentially jump timing and potentially destroy the engine.
@rotaryskratch18 I believe I did that with my 2004 honda pilot. I changed the timing belt, and now it's running really rough, and my vtm4 is on the dash. Any thoughts on that
Idk how you pwople are doing this but its not working for me. Cant get it on the crank pulley. I just wont stetch on ...
I put one on the hard way 2 years ago, wish I had seen thos. Why in the WORLD did Chevy not use a tensioner??? They did so many good things on their trucks, but then there were a few things that are so stupid I can't even fathom it.
Anyone know the part number to that belt?
The 4.8L motor are the same way
Belt Part number please
I have a 6.0 but my ac has a tensioner can i remove the tensioner and use a strech belt? 2004 gmc sierra..and do you have the part number?
I don’t understand why GM would make suck a pain in the ass design
👍👍😊
Does not work for 6.2 on a Camaro.
Huh? It worked just fine on my 13 SS
Show me this on a 6.2 Cam smh
Worked just fine on mine
What a pain in the butt
Buy new belt, ruin it by stretching it and it’s almost impossible to get it on. Another brilliant GM GARBAGE design
first used the tool it broke then did it your way works every time stupid tool
