I had a wonderfully cosy fall weekend: reading, baking apple cake, visiting an orchard, sorting through my fall stationery to write cards and getting some new autumn clothes. I filmed these quiet moments to share with you and also chatted about some of my #victober reads.

Miranda, thank you for sharing the link for the apple cake. I plan to make it on Sunday. After you shared the Damson Plum Crumble recipe, which here in the US isn't commonly known, I made it twice and it was a big hit with my family. I'm sure they will appreciate the cake as well!
Just lovely!! My 5 year old just came to me and asked if I was watching Miranda, I said yes, so he came to join me as he quite enjoys your videos! (he was supposed to be in bed!!) We watched the part where you were apple picking and he asked me: "how did Miranda find the Secret Garden at Misselthwaite manor? and why are the plants so overgrown in autumn time?" He simply loves the Secret Garden book and the 1993 film so this was so cute for him to watch. Gave me a bit of a giggle 🤣

I enjoy so much seeing your cozy automnal vlogs and seasonal reads suggestions! Here in Mexico it's still quite warm, so your videos transport me into the automnal English countryside for a while and make me burn a pumpkin spice candle and read some books about nature. This has been just gorgeous. The clothing is beautiful, the scenery is breathtaking. From the beautiful scenery to the most perfect music accompaniment, the start of this video promises to be such a treat for me this evening. For Victober, I read a book of short stories and also a book of poetry by the Brontes. For novels, I chose Dracula and am now finishing up The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I’m going to put the books you’ve recommended on a list for next year. I do want to read more Wilkie Collins especially. And I think it would be fascinating to read the memoir along with it. I love Emma Bridgewater and actually have you to thank for that intro! I’ll be buying something for Christmas I’m sure.😊your cards are lovely too, I think my favorite was the black and green primarily with the sleeping fox in the foreground. This was seriously a beautiful video Miranda! Well done! Netflix Persuasion- It is a beautiful production, and it grew on me, but Anne's best qualities are missing and replaced with a bit of sarcasm which I wish wasn't there, but otherwise, it grew on me. I really like the actor they chose for Captain Wentworth - interesting choice but yes...he grows on you too. My favorite is with Sally Hawkins although that long kiss at the end always makes smile a little at how stretched out it is. Nevertheless, I love Sally Hawkins as Anne. I've seen it a million times. I've only watched your favorite once but will rewatch it now. Love, love, love that green dress on you!!!!
Thanks so much! I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the Netflix Persuasion; I hope to watch it before filming the CBC discussion video. I like the Sally Hawkins / Rupert P-J version, but the 1995 one is by far my favourite! I think it captured the tone of the novel perfectly 🧡📖🍂

Oh my goodness yes!! The 1995 "Persuasion" is the absolute BEST ever!! I completely refuse to watch the latest "version" as I have heard that it butchers Austen's novel.
Yay for 1995 Persuasion love! It is not only my favourite Jane Austen adaptation, but also one of my favourite films! xxx

The new persuasion- I like the old one too. I found that if I didn't look at this one thinking of the book, or the old one, and just tried to have very low expectations, I found things to appreciate about it. Also, I loved your outfits. I am sorry that at this point in time, the company is only doing a narrow range of traditional sizes. (even if they charge a bit more based on yardage.) I note many of the small, thoughtful, socially conscious companies are aiming to fit and model a wider range of sizes. Hopefully, as they grow as a company this will be part of their vision.

I had to pause when I reached this video as I just wanted to let you know that the slightly vintage style and the colour of the cardigan you are wearing suit you so perfectly. This October was so sunny, that I several side could read outside like in summer, my thermos cup at my side… my favourite thing to do. Lovely to see you in this beautiful orchard… to bake an apple cake is my best way to come or stay in good mood. Thank you so much for sharing. Now I’ll have a lookout at the kind-of-Cinderella story… actually I’m re reading a cosy crime from Canada (Louise Penny), waiting for the new one and a new one from Ruth Ozeki (The book of form and emptiness). What a wonderful time of year for an apple cake! My own favorite recipe is from a vintage 1966 booklet.
The 1995 "Persuasion" film simply cannot be beat. I found the new Netflix version... entertaining... but I went into it by knowing it wasn't going to be a good Jane Austen flick. I approached it ready to accept it for what it is... a modernized Regency-inspired movie loosely based on Persuasion.
I've long wanted to take a chance and order something from Simply Retro, thanks for the reviews of your items. BTW, I love the green jumper with white trim that you are wearing in the beginning of this video, where did that come from?

I'm reading a Wilkie Collins right now called The Law and the Lady. It's quite something! I work on the computer for my job, so I also love baking and cooking because it's so tactile. Thank you Miranda for the lovely videos and amazing book recommendations, I always end up buying some of the books you share, and longing for even more.
I must admit that I have watched the new Netflix Persuasion film and I didn’t like it at all. If you are brave enough you of course can try it your self but for me it was more a 21th century film in 19th century clothing and scenery. I really don’t like making bad reviews because of my deep respect for other people’s job and of course I am not an expert my self at all, but I really didn’t like it.
I love to immerse my self in the pages of the book instead; that I must admit I am
Reading in Spanish because I didn’t want to miss anything important due to any misunderstanding though I will read it in English as soon as I am finished with the Spanish edition .

This video was such a charming, cozy midweek treat. I enjoyed everything, but your segment in the apple orchard was just stunning - the photography and the music both beautiful. I'd love to read "A Single Thread of Moonlight" - I often think that if had lived in earlier times I would have been happy as a seamstress. Hope you enjoyed your watch of the 1995 "Persuasion". Amanda Root and Ciran Hinds are perfect. It's my favorite movie and along with "You've Got Mail" one I can view over and over again. I plan to treat myself to a watch this Friday evening.
