I’m a handbag, shoes, and lipstick girl. My grandmother was such a total fashion and style person. She had four daughters, and together my mom and her sisters have seven daughters between them. Each of us has inherited some aspect of my grandmothers love for fashion. I got her love of bags and shoes, and this one is exactly my style. I’ve been needing a new purse, but I haven’t bought one in a very long time, because she passed away a few years ago. Anytime we went shopping or dressed up for something, we’d go and show her and since she’s gone it’s just hard to be excited about it anymore. But I love this
bag, and she would have loved it too! Also, it’s so nice to see another woman carry multiple lipsticks. I do that too. 😊
Enchanting, I feel the only thing missing is a pet to complete the family, perhaps a cat or little dog Miranda.

Miranda, I'm sooo sooo happy that you chose my question and (this is really silly), but you made my day when you mentioned my name. lol! In my house, you're like a celebrity and my husband always says, "Oh, did Miranda recommend that book to you?" :D I loved your video - I knit on my warm sweater while watching! It was really fun to have a peek into your purse and find out what stylish and bookish items you carry around!
Things we have in common: I also have horrible eyesight (-7.25 in each eye) so I can't see anything without them (or glasses) and I need to put in contacts before I even take a shower (which I'm sure you can sympathize with!). I also carry a pretty handkerchief, scarf, iPhone and little safety kit in my purse. Though I don't carry my fountain pen around (too scared it might leak!), I love your golden one. It's gorgeous! I own a Pilot silver and also a Lamy clear fountain pen which I use for journaling and writing letters.
Although I don't usually wear lipstick, I wish it looked good on me and I adore seeing lipstick shades and cases. I love the look, feel and click of the case (I know, weird) and only wish that any lipstick looked good on me. I am a lip balm addict, though, and I carry at least 3 in my purse at all times. Plus, the ones on my makeup shelf. If only lip balms would come in a fancy lipstick case! lol. If you're looking for really nice lip balm, I love any by Boodha Organics, Hurraw or Meow Meow Tweet.
I've got Margery Sharp's Rhododendron Pie book, too! As always, it's on my to-be-read list. I love the covers of all the Dean Street Press books so much. I love that you carry around your Persephone book list! If I lived in the UK, I would carry that around, too. I've never found any Persephone books to buy (either new or used) at any store in the US. Very sad.
Your tray looked amazing - especially with the candlelight! My favorite of all time is cinnamon buns and hot chocolate - yummy! The birdsong and snowdrops made me long for spring. We have about 10" of snow and, though pretty, I still love warmer weather and flowers much more. In love with your dress and your mom's sweater, too. So many hugs to you and your mom!! xoxo :D

You really do carry around a LOT of stuff in your bag! What a fab brand, I must have a look! Lovely to have a ‘books and buns’ afternoon. I have started having a ‘tea and journaling’ hour most days, after watching your vlog about your journals, which led me to look at lots of different journaling styles and journaling prompts. In the end, I just picked up a really nice A5 notebook and started writing. Really enjoying it, so thank you for that X
Oh I love that idea, Penny! Tea & journaling - how fab! In the end, I always just sit down and write too (I try for three pages a day). And it's always lovely to have an excuse for a new notebook!!

I carry as much as you and toys for my grandson in my bag. When I try to downsize the contents, I begin readding everything again fairly quickly. Ah, the universality of ladies’ bags. Snowdrops and birds in your garden were lovely to see. Happy for you for new bag. Just perfect.
Hello Miranda! I really enjoyed the “unboxing” today! What a gorgeous leather handbag you chose and I enjoyed seeing all the things that you like to carry along with you...I wanted to let you know about an accessory that I’ve been loving for carrying books with me in my bag. It’s from a company in the states called bookbeau. They make these beautifully padded zippered sleeves that protect your book from becoming damaged while it’s in your bag or purse. I just love them and have several of their most popular designs. Please give them a look when you can. They even carry some waterproof ones as well! Love and hugs to you and your mum! That bag looks like it was made for you. It's gorgeous and you wear it well! I'm gobsmacked by how much it can accommodate. Your books and buns afternoon looks just divine. We enjoyed a real blizzard here on Monday and into Tuesday. It was so beautiful during the day. I curled up with "Wintering" and just relished the quiet beauty of it all.

That place where your mom and you live is so beautiful! We have right now a temperature of 81 degrees but I’m near to the coast area. In the mountains in cooler but still hot for you. I love those countries where you can appreciate every season.

Beautiful bag and the colour will be perfect for winter or summer. I can recommend the Clinique Lash Power mascara, it’s the only one I’ve found that doesn’t smudge on me! What a perfect way to spend an afternoon. The cinnamon buns looked absolutely delicious - would your mum share the recipe on a future tea reads? ❤️

Hello Miranda and Donna. What a beautiful video this is. The droopy-headed snow drops are so beautiful. Nothing is blooming where I am yet. We have had snow every day for several days now and we are expected to get an Arctic blast with temperatures around 0 F. this weekend. Your new handbag is stunning. I love the color, style, and size. Unfortunately, because of my age and arthritis, I would not be able to carry such a large, heavy bag. I purchased a new leather bag about 6 months ago. While I normally get black, I chose gray this time. I love handbags, especially the very vintage-looking designs. However, my daughter laughs at me because I will carry the same bag for many years. It is something I just get attached to and don't bother to make a change. The sheer joy on your face at getting your new bag is so nice to see. Your true appreciation of such a lovely gift is evident. I love that you and your mom are having such a cozy winter day. You are both so blessed to have each other to share your days. Even though my daughter only lives across the road from me, I don't get to see her often as she has 3 children whom she homeschools and is quite busy with that. The book you are going to read, Miranda, sounds really good and I would love hearing your opinion of it. Hope to visit with you lovely ladies again very soon. Take care.....Crystal.

Oh I love a hanky! Ladies used to give them as a wee present but no more. My partner gave me some on my birthday and couldn’t understand why I was so excited

Your new bag is nice Miranda, but (and I hope you don’t mind me saying) I like your old black leather bag better - it looks so soft. I like the purse-clip opening. Very unique. I hope you keep this, or maybe you could sell it second hand to a subscriber (it’s a bit of a trend having second hand items). Your new bag looks more business like, which would, I suppose, be ideal for when you’re out and about on work errands, including going to meetings. Your camera is really nice and of good quality. All of the items that you keep in your bag are so very elegant. What a beautiful new handbag. I used to use a large camera for vlogging but it got to be way too much! It is hard for me to lug it around so I had to downsize. I am going to check out that website to see if I can find a new bag as well. I love the pattern on yours.

I have serious bag envy, now, Miranda! You made a great choice, both in style and colour. I usually combine a smaller crossbody bag - for ease of getting in and out of tube stations, when that was a daily occurrence, not now! - and a leather tote bag for books, etc. One thing I've enjoyed about lockdown is getting out and about for walks and travelling light, just my phone and mask in my pocket. Also enjoying some cosy reading - thank you so much for introducing me to Miss Read, I remember her books being popular when I was a teenager but I wasn't particularly drawn to them, then, but I'm loving dipping into Village School, now. And we don't have any snow, sadly, but I'm enjoying it vicariously through your video and Nancy Spain's Death Goes on Skis. Have a lovely rest of the week!

Very nice new bag! Do let us know how it does “in the wild” ! I must say, though, your old bag looked very comfy and had a nice patina of use. aI adore a large bag, but since I’ve gotten older a large bag is harder to carry. I bring it with and just keep it in the car and carry a smaller light weight bag that fits quite a bit. I always carry a book and have found Picador Pocket Editions to stick in my purse. They are only 5 and 3/4 inches tall and 3 and 3/4 inches wide. Currently reading Regarding the PainFits beautifully in my bag. of Others by Susan Sontag.
Thanks very much! That's a good idea to have a second small handbag to take out and about. I do find I have to have a big one when I'm going on a trip / out for the day in a city like London though! Picador Pocket editions sound the perfect handbag book! I like Slightly Foxed for that too (they can fit in tiny bags which is fab!!) xxx
Hallo Miranda, are you able to read a book while wearing contact lens?I can not go out without them, but if I am in a book shop I can not read anything.How do you solve this problem? I was admiring your disciplin, you do not carry chocolates or such treats in your bag!!😘
