      Moderation is key.
I don't drink, but some people I know do it responsibly. This goes for many unhealthy habits. Ideally we should optimize our lives to the best of our abilities. As long as you don't fall into addiction, you may occasionally have fun.

What I find interesting is this: When you work on yourself and grow, you become happier, more balanced and more successful, because you stop self-sabotaging yourself. At the same time, it get’s more difficult to find a partner, as most people don’t develop and you can’t be anymore with someone who hasn’t integrated and healed his/her shadows and traumas. Anyone else who experiences this?

Love it. Started this process in my mid 40s without knowing it and regret not doing it earlier. Stopped watching news 10 years ago. Stopped reading eclectic alternative news a few years ago. Almost all of it is a distraction and BS, not because of some conspiracy, but because of people write it, or know better than you, or are mediocre at their jobs and under a deadline, or increasingly, because it’s just software writing the words.
Spend your time on your family and friends, on your career, your hobbies, staying fit and healthy, learning new skills and improving old ones, building a nest egg, learning from folks like this and others to better understand yourself. Your decisions will almost entirely determine the life you lead.

I was lucky to start this process when I was 23. Now 33. It takes a while to get things ironed out once you see the light. Remember an epiphany doesn't mean lasting change, it takes a daily practice and a resolve to not forget what you learned or let yourself slip back into old ways of thinking and being. Get to work, start today.

If you STILL have the SAME friends you did 10 years ago, chances are you haven't changed as much as you think you have. When we're changing MOST of our friends either fall away OR change with us (it happens), but USUALLY most move on or simply don't understand. If you have a NEW batch of like-minded ppl SURROUNDING you then your change is REAL. Jus' Sayin' ⚡️😎⚡️

It was one of the first things I had to give mostly because I didn't want unattended thoughts gaining access to my mind subconsciously. Gave up radio for a while, too... I still enjoy the sound of the world more. It used to be so loud inside my mind, its much more of a sanctuary and a tool. True, anyone who encourages independent thought is a plus. This can take awhile to do though and even when you think your still not brain washed you still may be on some level b/c certain programming can run deep no matter who or what you are. You may have unconscious negative ancestral imprints or past life issues and themes that still play out as well.
You may become conscious of these patterns so you can change or heal them if you don't believe in those things on a conscious level at least but to heal and be aware on deeper levels you may need the help of someone else. Good healers, Shamans, etc., can help you track certain things and why it happened. Alberto from the four winds website has some good info my mentor learned from him/the program. I'm sure there are other people or avenues you can learn from too. Interesting stuff.

Divesting yourself of these moutains of rolled up newspaper and tumbleweeds is a true life change. What you've described is the result but how you get there is a lot of pulling yourself back consistently into awareness. And with all of the competing noise for your attention, falling off the wagon almost daily can be frustrating. Lots of people have lots of different plans. In primary school I never understood the reason for any of it - I was permanenly dumbfounded by the screeching animals surrounding me, I could not see why I was there. Exactly. I'm 40 years old and live in the center of beautiful Heidelberg Germany. I inhabit a flat with 2 students, to save money. I can walk to work (ICU nurse), but I have an old used bike for less then 200 bucks. I don't need to travel. Heidelberg is paradise. No car, no kids. I only work part time so I have enough money for my hobbies: Bouldering, Running, Gaming on Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Switch (if our house burns down, I can't lose those games, I own them in the cloud). Life is beautiful nowadays, why would I waste it at work. I only buy cloths when I really need them, mostly cheap.
You can eat healthy for 5 bucks a day (coffee included). It's easy: stick to things that have only 1 ingredient, but no isolates like sugars and oils (you can throw them together obviously for a meal)
I consider whole grain pasta to be healthy, but you should have them split up in to maximum 2 meals a day. Other than that I eat oats, nuts and vegetables. I wholeheartedly agree with what you said.
    About that bs shit...
I was told that black people (I'm Afro-Cuban, btw...) are "supposed" to think and live and dress and act a certain way.
Me? I saw the consequences of some of those thoughts and actions and beliefs. Like having kids without a husband and a stable lifestyle. Like going to jail. Like never having a good paying job. Like tolerating crime.
I said a big no to all of that bs and left it behind decades ago.
Similar thing with going to church. It left me afraid to date, look too hard at men, be too attractive too men and not wanting to live an abundant life with a fair amount of material possessions.
It took me until around age 45 to get my head straightened out enough to think freely enough to really start doing my own thing.
Hard work! It's the hardest! Staying the same is comfy. Change is hard! Dealing with criticism (self and other's) is hard and sometimes came with negative consequences of their own.
    Worth it? Absolutely.
Clean out that warehouse of bs thoughts people. Have armed guards to only let in the good stuff. Your mind will love your for it.

7:00 I appreciate the clarification that you need to carefully decide what to keep and what to discard. In contrast to pathologically holding onto tradition because of how they feel, there are those who pathologically rebell against tradition for the same reasons. Mindlessly rejecting averything you've been taught won't free you, it will simply leave you rudderless, desperately searching for the first thing to replace your past belief system. You will jump from one dogma to another and be no better off.

8:36 Bingo 🎯 … Hit the nail on the head with this episode. Critical thinking is a skill and to some a gift. Truth is the basis of “comparison” when analyzing anything. Comparison is the key to accuracy. If we don’t shine the light we roam in the dark. Being able to zoom in and out of any given situation will allow us to see the details and the bigger picture at the same time. If we can be the satellite and the microscope we gain truths perspective. The best way to gain truths perspective is with balanced ⚖️ thinking ⚖️ and an unbiased emotional detachment. Think until you’ve gotten through the maze… The only way to attain true immediate knowledge is to “perspective shift” and to protect and guard your subconscious mind from past and “present” influences. The only way to protect your subconscious mind is to have a firewall like antivirus program running in the background… almost like a fight or flight alarm system that detects and blocks threats.

A very necessary insight as always.
In my experience, the best approach to take in response to realizing one has been molded by one's culture is to pursue truth rather than adopt a counter-cultural stance for its own sake. You can end up just as confused by reactively fighting external influence as you can mindlessly conforming to it. Better to evaluate information and ideas on their own terms regardless of the source. So if you end up retaining views originally received from parents, media, church, friends, etc. that's completely fine, so long as you have individually evaluated each idea and weighed its truth/usefulness for yourself.

I wasn't really feeling loath for the people per say but it always felt so inconsequential that I'll be the same person with or without thinking about it. With all these various ways you can look at psychology, I didn't have a guide which helped me actually realize the real world value of the things being talked about.
When you came into my life, from hating talking and listening about psychology, started binging them. And once I connect the dots and make the ideas stick to real world, I can't think I would ever have felt more love for myself then I do now. It's all business and it's okay.

I began painting in oils when I was in my 30's. Previously, I had learned to write my dream content, every night, and decipher the symbolic content of the dream's language. So, I then used the conscious act of painting as a means of examining the visual symbolism of the images that I painted, in much the same way as you suggest; listening to each thought that might come into my awareness. The intent of the exercise, unlike the Surrealists, isn't to capture the nonconscious image of dreams, but to examine the contents of my mind. Now, to anchor my mind I needed something to hold within it, and that was often "Love", or "Peace". This was a counter to compare/contrast any thought that came that was NOT that anchor. SO, any thought/emotion that came, I could decide if I wanted to keep it, as you say. And often, what I was left holding, were thoughts of peace and love...and a painting. 🙂

    Another thought-provoking take!
Two years spent in a third world village with no media diet never left me feeling at all deprived afterwards.
A couple possible additions come to mind:
    1) This is not compulsory. No need to complete the process perfectly to receive benefit. And while hardship should be expected, if taken to the point of trauma (e.g. via extreme self-isolation, abandoning all social connections suddenly) you're body will lash back and inflict you with a deeper attachment. Just start being willing to question everthing. And even eventually start (like Orion) helping others do the same.
    2) Let go of, avoid and don't apply labels. (I'm surprised Orion never used the word "identity." The more "civilized" humans get, the more "stuff" we identify with as a kind of shield against our self-inflicted species isolation.) This car, that person, those systems of belief. An even better place to start than #1 above, is with (your) kids. (And I can't blame someone without kids for neglecting this point.) Yes, they have to work their own awakening once grown. But we can help them to, for example, embrace history study (incl family hx) without attaching themselves to any labels (whether labels associated with shame or pride). Model questioning more than answers.
In short, you might not need to take full responsibility yourself for throwing out the bathwater (and whatever's in there...). As social and cultural beings, it might be more natural to not attempt this all alone nor even all in our own generation.

Once again Dr., GOLD! Yes, nothing but agreement here. I have lived my life as an independent and objective thinker from a very young age, making me a true Outlier. At age 5 I was almost poisoned to death by bad prescription medicine I begged my parents not to make me consume. I knew it was killing me. Others died. While I did not blame my parents, who believed the family doctor and of course modern Pharma, this made me into a different person. Once recovered I framed everything in the same filter: is this true? Is it good for me, does it feel emotionally right? Around the age of 9 or 10 I realized that almost all the adults in the world were idiots. Sheep, blindly following other sheep. AND I WAS NOT WRONG. Look what human beings have done to Mother Earth and each other in my 60 years. Our collective as well as individual behaviours are not even rational, let alone emotionally intelligent or spiritually aware. People, Think For Yourselves!

This process showed me how rigid I was regarding illusions I was brought up with. It opened me up to flexibility and compassion for others.

I agree I examined why I felt the need to get married again and concluded it was put in my mind by movies and culture. So I asked does it make sense today? No because we men get Zero value!!!! We actually lose power in our relationship because we are scared she will leave with everything I as man has built.

I have become adept at taking something that isn't functional in one situation and applying it in an unexpected way in a different circumstance so that what at first didn't appear useful was actually useful all along. 300 level coursework in one field is often applicable in understanding another "completely different" field. At very high levels, the stem fields begin to overlap.
If you don't understand geometry, you can never fully understand algebra. At first geometry was leading me in circles, but eventually it squared me up. That same analogy is true with chemistry, but the puns wouldn't work and most people wouldn't understand the vocabulary.

This is indeed an important video. Clear your mind of all BS. Don't be a product of your time. Don't believe anything they tell you. Think from the First Principles.
