    Thanks for your appreciation Mark. Dog got back to normal the next day, she was mainly demoralised due to back legs not quite performing to spring and jump about. She's doing pretty well for her age though :-)

    This reminded me of a camp out when my son was little. We tried to tough out the rain, but it got the better of us so we packed up soaking wet in the middle of the night and went home with a carload of wet gear that took us a week to dry out in the apartment. we had an inflatable boat, but it was a bit more rectangular. I hope your female companion felt better after you got her home. I really enjoy your filming style. I'll be watching for you here on UA-cam. I'm shut in but not because of my health, mostly due to caring for an elderly shut-in, so seeing others out there enjoying the outdoors keeps me mentally stable. ;-)

      Thanks very much for watching & writing your outdoorsy story Helen. Hope you've had chances to get outdoors since that time. Akasha is fairing up well considering she had a real health scare beginning of this year (mentioned it in a few videos since) I've said many times before I do my outdoors activities even if UA-cam didn't exist so I endeavour to keep my channel as realistic as possible to what I actually do, including trekking wild camping on mountains, woods, riverways. Including my style of kit, skills etc with another 99 varied videos on my channel to date. Hope you get a chance to view some of those. Glad to know the vids give you some sort of mental balance & respite from restrictions indoors :-)
      All the best!

      MINDWISEMAN I do get out when I can, but it's not possible now like it was when my husband was here. We had a Sportpall wide bottom canoe with a sidekick for a small 2 horse when time was of the esscense, like when we stayed out too late at the far end of a lake and tried to get back before dark.. That happened more often than it should of. We were slow learners. ;-). The Sportpall had a thick lightweight foam lining so our dogs were comfy accompanying us on our outings. When there was too much sun I had a shade umbrella for them to duck under.I long for those days again, but I'm confident that days like that will roll around again some day. I hope you are able to keep sharing your outings. I saw a few of them so far and plan to take in a few more. The first one of yours I saw was of the Folding Firebox. ;-) I got one shortly after that..

      Helen Nelson Another nice little story of your outdoor travels especially being out on the waters. As you say hopefully you can do similar in the near future, even if it means a simple day trek with some cook kit & food spending the day in woods or traverse some hills. The Firebox may be a little weighty but certainly is fit for purpose with it's versatility & sturdiness, good to know you acquired one. See you in the next one. All the best!

    Had to chuckle at your teapot Englishmen and their kettles. :) To me the smaller pot would be more multi-purpose than a kettle. I guess tea tastes better from kettle boiled water. Your breakfast also made me chuckle. I"d never heard of beans for breakfast until I met Brits. Since then I bring some camping as well. Do you ever forage for foods? When I camp I try to do that as much as I can. Pine needle tea, so stir fried cattail shoots or roasted cattail roots and sunchokes are pretty easy to find and I always have some fishing gear along. Cool dog, I used to have a good canine buddy who loved to camp with me. She loved to steal the firewood too. :) Happy trails.

    • @MINDWISEMAN
      @MINDWISEMAN  10 років тому +1

      Thanks for the big comment! Have included aspects of foraging in previous vids.
      Chewed on many a raw tails root plucked out the water, hawthorn leaf, roasted dandelion roots amongst other types. There are times when it's ok to be outdoors without being on a mission, just enjoy the outdoors even if it means taking just a packed lunch. Yes my dog's a good outdoors companion :-)
      All the best out there!

    Thank you very much for your video. You have it well figured out. Thanks for the tips. Yeah down here in Georgia we get some extreme changes in climate for sure. Makes your island look like a paradise. I'm sorry about your dog. She was probably jealous of your time talking to us or she couldn't understand to whom you were speaking. What a pleasure to have a dog with you on some overnights. Thank you brother. And be good.

    • @MINDWISEMAN
      @MINDWISEMAN  10 років тому

      Thanks for the conversational comment Corey. Generally UK climates not too bad although since end of 2013 until recent we've had floods from torrential rains, with some rivers unsafe to return upstream. Back to the islands & waters with my "safari dog" soon. Out there & safe to you.

    Your feedback's appreciated. Yes it all depends on the situation and practicallity as to what food to take. If you have access to a good supply of water then for light weight carry - dehydrated foods tend to be more practical as they're about 1/4 of the weight, take up less space. At least in the tins of food we get much more than in the hike shop packs. Even better when we can have fresh food cooked on a campfire :-) Cheers

Yes I think Akasha just had a few off days, she'e of the age to be a little geriatric now & then lol but she's still quite spritely for her age bless her. Camp security attitude comes instinctively from experiences/involvements in the past. You're on the button Sara - always good to have preps/ideas in place just in case for sure. Good to know you ventured into the UK cool weather to wildcamp, nice one. River Wye is one of Britains wildernessy waterways, you'll love it especially if you're navigating through the forest lined valleys. I've seen the Dutch heavy duty ponchobasha, they maybe slightly more weighty than the average but as far as ponchos go they're pretty well bomb proof good bita kit for sure! Have a great "being out there" time m8. Thanks for the comment. Cheers

    Thanks John, grateful for your appreciative feedback! I've got a few varied mats. I must admit if you don't mind the tubular affect of the lilo style mat (featured) it can spoil you comfort wise because its so bouncy comfortable and you don't feel any solidness of the ground below. I would consider the NEO but at £100 a go!? Gonna source a UK army surp' self inflater soon but I'm after the full length 180cm not the 120cm which is easier to acquire. Cheers m8

    Grateful for your feedback comment J! The next day dogs back legs were back to normal. Yes for sure if you look after the ol' Coleman it certainly carrys the test of time. It may be a little bulk/weighty to some people but at least it's self contained with its fuel, and as you say well economical to run and efficient at heat/cooking. Slow time...fast time? it's all good just being in the moment :-) Cheers.

    Thanks m8. I always keep the skeg in the seat back rest pouch and used it in the past. I've found it to help, not as good as I thought it would when I 1st got the canoe. I reckon it'd track near as good as a hard shell if skeg was bigger. Cheers.

    Another great video pete mate, loved the Roswell fire reflector lol.
    so many points to big up mate - good tip for the grass under groundsheet trick (simple yet very effective) - i was looking at softie top & bottoms (another thing too add to the long list).
    i do exactly the same thing with dry twigs/branches for security.
    keep an eye on stealth dog - since taking mine to the woods (she eats all sorts on the ground) she was a bit off for a few days, maybe some fungal thing.
    all the best my mate

    Thanks for the feedback. Have done all the transfer food into heat up bags etc. Found it mainly beneficial if you are light backpacking & eat the food within 48hrs or else can perish in warm weather. Of course you need access to water or carry it with you to heat in the bags. Beauty of the canoe is food can be kept indefinately and heated without the water. Am trying to source vacuum bags to cook food in from raw then store to take outdoors, like shop bought long life packs. Be safe m8 :-)

    Looks like a nice trip, and I found that you are the first person on youtube bushcraft, camping vids who actually use the can opener.
