@Stephen Jones You're correct that without good spotting he wouldn't get walked into the target, but when you say "Anyone can do that." I hope you're offering "anyone" months or years of practice mastering breath control, trigger control, pulse compensation, stock pressure control, and reading the wind. I've seen a lot of armchair commandos leave their first PRS style matches greatly humbled. Long range shooting, even supported from fixed benches and rests, is a discipline which requires learning and practice. I've been doing long range rifle work for 30 years now and would still consider hits on a balloon at 1000 with a handgun something very special.

Jerry Miculek keeps saying, be first on the range and last to leave. I bet he even shoots all 6 or 20 into the steel by sheer reflex memory in pitch darkness ! @@exothermal.sprocket Although my comment was intended to be mostly a joke - I do agree with you. Unfortunately, it requires more than just practice to excel like Jerry has.
I have 3 shooting ranges within easy driving distance of me. All of them have quite draconian rules which preclude such things as holster draws, or shooting more than one shot per second. Much like a corporate drone, you must remain calmly and quietly in your assigned 3x3 cubicle, so forget prone shooting, or any excess motion as you slowly shoot holes in the same bullseye paper target every week. Practicing double or triple taps is out of the question, and if I ever emptied a gun like Jerry I would be banned for life. lol
While there are always ways to improve your skills regardless of the artificial limitations imposed... it is certainly easier if you can use real world scenarios as well as making it both more challenging and more fun to go to the range.

800lb Gorilla I’ve shot TR class competitively, and competed in many formal national matches and even made one trip to bisley as part of a national rifle team. What he’s doing with a revolver is nothing short of amazing. I’ve got plenty of practice, thousands of rounds and years of formal instruction, and I am astonished at what that man can do. So maybe when you’re posting videos of smashing a gong at 1000yds with a pistol you’ll be qualified to lecture on ‘fundamentals’

A $1000 scope isn't what gets you there, reading wind and knowing your bullets dope will. Take a decently accurate 22 LR gun out to your range and step it out to 300 or 400 yards and you will get real familiar with how a riffle bullet will act at 1,000+ ranges, and it will keep you from spending thousands of dollars to aquire the skills needed. I shot my first high power match with a surplus rack SMLE in .303 using walmart hunting ammo and scored in the middle of the pack, out shooting guys with $10,000+ race guns. To say I had a few questions asked of me would be an understatement. Had one guy thinking that I had some slick gunsmith and a race gun built in the smle stock and just reused my hunting ammo boxes. Needless to say he was kind pissed when he found out the truth. Using my bone stock Ruger 10-22 on our farm with a 500 yard range is how I was able to learn the skills needed and trust me, 600 yards is like 150 with a 22lr.
