I would love to see how Bob would have stacked up to the great gunfighters of the old west. I would imagine that there could be some extremely talented people back then because they didn’t have as many distractions as we do today.
The confidence and charisma in this man! RIP Bob, you were simply the best there ever was. A true and natural showman. As they say; “They don’t make em like this anymore.”
I dont care if he didn't hit that baloon directly, if you've ever used an open sight on a target that far even the plate would be covered completely by the sight post. This is phenomenal.
You do it like Elmer Keith did, "put up some front sight" was his method. I'm certainly not a Bob or Elmer but if you practice enough these kind of shots are possible. I've a 5½" SuperBlackhawk that I shoot often at white metal 5 gallon pails at between 200 and 300 yards. 5 hits for 6 shots is my best, but of course there are many 0 for 6 also.

I'm falling down the rabbit hole today, watching Bob's videos... Easy to see the guy was an absolute natural with guns. I wonder if he could do the same type of incredible distance shots, but with an actual sniper rifle... His timing, delivery, sense of humor & natural showmanship always make for great clips. I particularly like the ones where he's a little more boastful/bragging, than he typically is... Some of the stuff he says is so damn good!😂😂😂 RIP LEGEND🙏🏼
I saw Bob years ago in Louisiana at a show. He fired two shots from an old thumb buster(Single action Army .45colt) faster than I can shoot a semiautomatic pistol. Crazy fast 😳❤️☘️

I am impressed with the 38. And have pulled off the 200yard shot a few times with my Black Hawk 44 Mag. But have never tried with 38 Police Spacial. Now I just got to go out to the range.😊
i seen him just once at a gun show in raleigh, nc. around 1996 i think. he had a little table setup and a kinda meet and greet sort of area; he had a rifle case with, i donno, maybe 5-6 revolvers, i was eyeballing them. he must have noticed and said, "go ahead, pick one up if you'd like" i kindly no, but thank you. he said his name was Bob, i said my name was Edward, and he shook my hand. i was in my late 30's and was instantly star struck. but when he did some quick draw exhibition, i just could not belive how fast he was. he was the real deal McCoy. what a heck'va life he must have lived.
While I can't take away from Bob's abilities, because he's a far better shot than I will ever be, he actually missed the balloon both times. The first shot was slightly to the left, and the second shot was about 8" below the balloon. Both times, the shrapnel from the impact popped the balloon, but he did hit the plate, which is exceptional, even more so with the snub nose.
@@JaridOrgeron If you look at the close-ups of the shot, you can see where the holes end up. Both missed the balloon. Might have been shrapnel that caused the balloon to pop. Might have been intense vibration. But hitting the target at 200 yards is still ridiculous.
It's the snubnose that makes it impressive. I shot handgun metallic silhouette in the 80s and the farthest steel target in the revolver categorie was at 200 metres which is 220 yards. We shot standing, with open sights and had to topple heavy steel targets. Many had similar handguns to Bob's a few had shorter barrels. My point is that the 44 mag shot is highly achievable. It's the snubnosed one that is exceptional. One way or another, I'm not comparing myself to this fabulous shooter but drawing a perspective to illustrate how difficult the shot with the short 38 special barrel is. Slower, more drop at distance, far less power and a very short sight radius. Many people have difficulty hitting a bullseye at 10 yards, let alone pop a balloon at 200. This is actually quite tame compared to many of his other feats. Bob Munden was a legend.
I saw this guy doing quick draws one time years ago and at first I thought he was useing two guns I was about twenty five yards away ! He was drawing fast and hitting targets like a machine Amazing !!!
Don't want to rain on Bob's parade, but he missed the balloon both times. He did hit the white steel plate and the splatter of the bullet popped the balloon. 200 yards with a pistol is difficult but if you are a good shooter you will make some very distant hits.Bob was a great showman.
Both shots actually missed the balloons. It was the spray of the lead that broke them. That being said, both were good shots on a steel plate at 200 yards. I've done it several times with my 45 Colt Single Action using black powder full load ammo.
Somewhere around I have an old gun magazine article with Elmer Keith on how he was shooting 500 plus yards with pistols. Keith actually filed elevation grooves into his rear pistol sights for long range shooting.
Mr. Bob took a tiny J-frame Smith & Wesson Model 60 Chief's Special, with a 2" barrel, and shot out a balloon "200-yards" away. He only used 1-shot to accomplish this feat-of-feats! A stock Model 60, with black rubber Pachmayr Grips, and at a distance many shooters with scopes on their rifle could not make. This man, most likely, is one of the best top3-handgun shooters ever. What a shot!

Imagine the stuff he doesn't show because he can't guarantee it'll work, it's gotta be very impressive. But if he was shooting all the videos by himself you could make that case but it was all years ago with camera crews
Decades ago, I used to do that routinely at 200 yds with my Ruger Super Blackhawk. My targets were 2 liter soda bottles, and later, regular sized 12 - 16 ounce coke bottles. I never tried the shot with any other handgun though. I remember someone drove up on my buddy and I while shooting. After determining they were not a threat, we allowed them to observe us shooting. After I hit a standard sized glass coke bottle at 200 yards, one guy exclaimed: "Did he hit that bottle with that pistol?" "Sure did my buddy said." No trick to it folks... just lots of practice with the firearm. Once you know where that firearm shoots at any given range, it's just a matter of squeezing off that round just at the right moment when your naturally moving sights come onto the target. My eyes are 32 years older now so, doubt I could even see a 2-litre soda bottle today, much less hit it at 200 yds.
My idea for the Alamo would be to go back in time and manufacture a multi barrel salvo gun whereupon one could rotate the salvo barrels; and while I'm at it take a set of flintlock salvo weapons back to the Battle of Oriskany where, an ancestor of mine was an Officer in the Continental Army of General Washington's and was almost killed there. I have seen this one by the late Bob Munden; spectacular shooting.
