This is definitely the wrong spirit right here. Talk poorly about them and their devotion to an art, rather than recognize that it's okay to be deeply passionate about something, even if it doesn't make you a millionaire.
Toxic Potato particularly his use of proprietary makes little to no sense Salient, based on one of its definitions...... ok, it’s passable. But “guitar sounds denoting ownership” ? Doesn’t make an iota of sense at all lol What’re you, his attorney?
Peter Ganev if I own a guitar, my relationship to it is a proprietary one If I describe a riff as proprietary? I fail to see how that makes sense. To be charitable, maybe The specific riff being proprietary of the genre ? Such a weird thing to say... seems like he’s being unnecessarily verbose. If it’s not grammatically wrong, it’s certainly weird.... I’m not calling the dude a bad person, it’s just silly to me.
I'm really happy to see the younger generation of country musicians doing their thing, and adding to the lexicon. Still very country, but building and adding their personal signatures to it.
Definitely agree. Check out Trey Binkley from the band Goosehonk. Unreal playing. Only place to hear music right now is their website, but the EP is coming out next year. www.goosehonk.band
The is is the first hybrid picking lesson that mentioned replacing a pick upstroke with a finger pluck. No one else mentioned this in the ten videos I just watched. Thanks man!
No wonder I'm so drawn to this style of playing. As a drummer/guitarist, those ghost notes make it like you're playing both a percussive and stringed instrument simultaneously. This was a great lesson!
Danny Gatton on your shirt ... close to your heart ... surely he has been your idol of the telecaster guitar and his technique ... you are an excellent descendant of the GREAT guitar master! or not Daniel? ...
When I first start playing guitar I really wanted to play bass and always had problems getting on with a pick so I developed a hybrid picking technique with my right hand and legato with my left to compensate for my alternate picking weakness. I always saw it as a handicap but then I discovered the country greats and it was a lightbulb moment. Great video Daniel and reverb!
This guy is a G. Such a ripper and really articulate at spelling it out for us plebs. I’ve noticed that the normal speed presentation of some of his licks (on this and other vids) that he plays them different than his slow speed demonstration. It’s hard to slow down your playing once you get it down, not his fault but notice in the first lick that he hits like 3 more notes on the normal speed than the slowed down one. He has an extra second finger pluck, if you want to copy that one for extra sauciness rather than the slowed down version for us step dads
Don Rich is smiling down from Hillbilly Heaven. I love me them old Telecasters and chicken picken and diesel electrics. Along with the entire ethos of.. something or another...
The whole concept of "Ghost Notes" originated in drum and bugle corps where they would write flam patterns but not play the tap and only play the grace note and they were called ghost flams. a GRACE NOTE on drums is a little note 3 finger spaces above the head and are very quiet. Drummers using "ghost notes" are actually just playing little grace notes in between the regular back beat. Tap or Accent depending on your notation.
I'm curious - you say near the beginning that you have to get used to the pick only being used for downstrokes but at around 3:20 you show a slow playthrough of a lick where you use three downstrokes for the triplet section and then when you play at full speed it looks much more like a standard down-up-down on the triplet - is that just my eyes playing tricks or are you really so other-worldly that you can play triplets at *that* speed with three downstrokes??
Totally countrifies the playing, if you want that... Had a meeting with a ditch of glass and hard to get that one going with the feeling missing in that area but it is quite a different experience doing this stuff. Seeming to be he uses alternate pick in spots
Guess this is one of those self deprecating comments that are left on every guitar video that expects reply's like "Best comment I've seen all day" You Should have said the over abused "I just threw my guitar in the trash.
What if because you alternate pick all the time you have the ability to make up strokes with the pick and add in the other fingers? I use to only play this picking style with down strokes, I learned it from listening to Jason Becker explain how he did Mozart's Symphony 25 in G. I just wondered what if you did up strokes but kept the rhythmic vibe of hybrid picking. But I am wondering if it is considered the same or is it something different?
Dan Labrie it was a huge part of the sound years ago. Especially in the music he is obviously influenced by. Its on a lot of country records from the 70s
Why use a pick tho I heard what you said but I like the whisper sound from the fingers your very awesome the ghost notes I know I just cant play with a pick it messes me up
At 1:20 when he plays the lick slowly, he doesn't play the same lick than 5 sec before... But well, the important thing here is the concept of the right hand.
They say, "You think you can play guitar, until you go to Nashville."
The guitar players actually do grow on trees there
Absolutely. I bought this guy's lesson book from Hal Leonard and I can't even play the slow examples... It's insane
Yeah that's very true. There's 4000 guitar virtuosos pumping gas and washing dishes everywhere you go.
never got the concept of going somewhere were all the jobs are taken already........
This is definitely the wrong spirit right here. Talk poorly about them and their devotion to an art, rather than recognize that it's okay to be deeply passionate about something, even if it doesn't make you a millionaire.
Thoroughly enjoy this young man's intelligence, ability, and enthusiasm for the guitar ... Especially since it's a TELE!
That tone is amazing 🔥
"I'm glad all those guitarists never leave Nashville, because if they did, I'd be out of a job." ~ Jeff Beck
Did he say that... Really?
Yeah .. BUT .. there is only ONE Jeff Beck ... !!
@@PhillipNeal Yes, he actually said that.
Many players know this
@@waxhead63 unidad
Love his contagious enthusiasm on top of his virtuosity. Did I also mention that he talks very smart?
Peter Ganev “very salient” ?
“Proprietary sound” ?
He clearly doesn’t know what those words actually mean lol
Agreed. Very smart and imaginative with both his playing and vocab. What a bright and talented young dude.
Toxic Potato particularly his use of proprietary makes little to no sense
Salient, based on one of its definitions...... ok, it’s passable.
But “guitar sounds denoting ownership” ?
Doesn’t make an iota of sense at all lol
What’re you, his attorney?
He’s saying there’s a boastfulness to this technique. A kind of inherent bravado.
Peter Ganev if I own a guitar, my relationship to it is a proprietary one
If I describe a riff as proprietary? I fail to see how that makes sense. To be charitable, maybe The specific riff being proprietary of the genre ?
Such a weird thing to say... seems like he’s being unnecessarily verbose. If it’s not grammatically wrong, it’s certainly weird.... I’m not calling the dude a bad person, it’s just silly to me.
Love the humble smirk after he finishes playing. His sound is wonderful.
I never thought humble and smirk went together in a sentence until now. Great observation
What a great player -- so good to see young cats like this pushing things forward.
I've been hybrid picking since forever and the pick going up is a staple. It's a natural part of my strumming and I'd never be whole without it.
I'm really happy to see the younger generation of country musicians doing their thing, and adding to the lexicon. Still very country, but building and adding their personal signatures to it.
Maybe the best young player around at the moment. Just on another level.
Alex Otterwell totally. Check out Marcus King too if you’re not familiar
Definitely agree. Check out Trey Binkley from the band Goosehonk. Unreal playing. Only place to hear music right now is their website, but the EP is coming out next year. www.goosehonk.band
Look up polyphia
Check out Andy Wood
Not a competition but Joe Robinson is great too
The is is the first hybrid picking lesson that mentioned replacing a pick upstroke with a finger pluck. No one else mentioned this in the ten videos I just watched. Thanks man!
Every time i see a young person rippin on any instrument it gives me hope. Daniel is a great player at 23 - just taught me some stuff to work on.
No wonder I'm so drawn to this style of playing. As a drummer/guitarist, those ghost notes make it like you're playing both a percussive and stringed instrument simultaneously. This was a great lesson!
I’ve been playing and teaching for 20 years. I love it when kids like this come along:)
@Ashton Heston He’s *not* a kid, lol. I just meant the talent level of some I’ve seen, and had the honor to teach.
Saw this dude probably 4 years ago on Broadway. One of the slickest guitar players ever.
Danny Gatton on your shirt ... close to your heart ... surely he has been your idol of the telecaster guitar and his technique ... you are an excellent descendant of the GREAT guitar master! or not Daniel? ...
He’s the king of Nashville right now.
He shit too if he`s well fed
This lesson is great. Not to slow, not to fast, not too much talking, easy to learn.
This young lad is just awesome.period.
Man, never play bass w/a pick. Use fingers and thumb always.
Nah, I'm saying when I played guitar early on I had wanted to play bass so I played/play guitar mostly with my fingers and without a pick
Brilliant tutorial and demo - very clear. This young man is going to be a fearsome talent in country and country rock.
Cosmic Country. Daniel Donato is so fresh and exciting. Love this dude.
Found you on GAB.(James Woods Tweets) Must say, you're one of the better gtr teachers out there. Me? 40yr. Gtr player. TY.
Chicken pickin will be the new sweep picking craze. Mastodon has been doing it for years though.
In terms of metal-oriented musicians, Zakk is the king of chicken pickin' and he was doing it long before Mastodon was even a band.
wayyyyyy before!!!!!
Ever hear of James Burton.
Check out Danny Gatton.
This dude is so good in pretty much every video I've seen of him
And he's 23, yikes! A monster in the making!
Saw him play in a bar a couple months ago. Live is nuts
@@parsonscbrian awesome, did you know he was going to play there or was it a lucky accident?
He's is a full grown monster here and now
I've been playing guitar for 20 years and I still have so much to Learn! Thank you Daniel👍
This guy is fantastic. Blows my mind
Daniel is amazing... love his style. And he seems to be a really nice guy
What a wonderful young man i remember few years ago he was shining like star
Love my shred. But this kid is the future. So passionate and into it. Superb.
Way to go kid. It's good to hear him talk about the old players.

Phaser=instant Waylon Jennings! Great lesson
I don't think guitarists in the 70s were allowed to play without phasers.
Yeah, first thing I thought was the tune Luckenbach, Texas. Kind of like it, though.
I heard some Talking Heads in the beginning. Life during wartime, I think.
Don Rich is smiling down from Hillbilly Heaven. I love me them old Telecasters and chicken picken and diesel electrics. Along with the entire ethos of.. something or another...
23 years old.. so young. I glad young gen loves guitar.
Great video Reverb and Daniel, great playing and teaching

great lesson on hybrid picking. Thank you.
this is what practicing 12 hours a day will get you... awesome talent
He's got a phaser goin. Waylon would love Daniel so much! We all do. I've got a phaser, now I need a tele.

this is a good lesson! and Daniel has a great sound, I like him
Hot damn. I would love to learn all this!

This kids got these old dudes in the comments all insecure about their playing and vocabulary. Lmfao
yeah... I hate him already! Just kidding. extremely jealous old dude. just kidding again. a little
Amen! I love him! He made me learn country licks even though I hate country!
+Alejandro Cisneros I made a clock out of my tele
Absolutely charming guy. I think I‘m learn some of these licks.
John Alderon..spot on mate
Love the way you explain things!
That bridge tone 😍
Daniel Donato is the truth. Keep is Cosmic y’all.
Beautiful fretboard
Ry Cooder tone on a Ry Cooder tele! Sounds excellent.
"It just waxes on, never off." Ha!
sounds like an old fart with a fender twin with the reverb turned up to 10, grates your nerves
That was a funny line.
Love these episodes
Coolest switch tip I’ve ever seen.
Huge Daniel Donato fan!
Daniel is the man
You are an amazing guitarist !!!!!!
the riff around the 5:30 mark reminds me of Steve Morse Ice Cakes
No matter how old these country-style pickers are, you can hear the Don Rich influence in every one of them.
Totally countrifies the playing, if you want that... Had a meeting with a ditch of glass and hard to get that one going with the feeling missing in that area but it is quite a different experience doing this stuff.
Seeming to be he uses alternate pick in spots

Brilliant. Sounds great. Never tried it this way but I will definitely work on it.
So what fingers of your right hand are you using?
I love him. Very cool 😎
Acrylic nails haha that's interesting. I always like the sound of the flesh popping the strings. The nail thing just feels wrong if I try that
Great tutorial Daniel
Cool sounds, name of the last song?
I’m gonna go ahead and quit telling people I play guitar now

Thank you beautiful and an excellent lesson paced brilliantly what a gift All the best
Is that a phaser or harmonic trem or vibe I’m hearing?
phaser
Either way it's annoying.
Dan Labrie it was a huge part of the sound years ago. Especially in the music he is obviously influenced by. Its on a lot of country records from the 70s
exactly also Albert Lee used a lot of modulation, just take any Emmylou Harris album up until the early eighties
Grow your nails out boys ,

Inte3resting style and very cool guy
Does anyone know what kind of phaser he uses?
MXR Phase 90
That's some good pickin' right there.
What kind of finish is that
This dude is so cool. (that he plays country is even cooler)
Dang He’s awesome. I think he would be a good guest on the Marc Maron podcast. Knows his stuff and is good at talking about it
