That dynamic between Anthony's singing and the rest of the band is very interesting. Since Anthony doesn't know music theory, the way he sings is entirely from his soul, and I think that makes his singing even better.

Sometimes when I feel so low, music really is the only thing I can connect with. I also love how thoughtful all of his answers are. You can tell how important it is to him to correctly convey what he is feeling.
Interesting how "Reckoner" by Radiohead was inspired by how John played guitar on "Scar Tissue." Dig that contemporary respect and influence for each other.

And we have the capacity to understand any sort of music, but it takes time for your neurons to come together in a way for you to realize the importance of the symphony/noise or the combination. That’s a really beautiful thought that I think a lot of us take for granted when thinking about artistic contributions, and what we value in terms of style. I know that I’ve personally found myself moved to tears by their music before, and that has value beyond strictly clinical abilities. Indirectly, REM saved music for everyone post 99’.

I knew he’d met and toured with Nirvana, but I didn’t know John to be such a fan, although *TeaJerker @ One hot minute* is about Kurt Cobain, John F wasn’t in the band at that period. *With out Nirvana, I would have never been motivated to pick up my sisters guitar and start learning by listening to their albums.* 🙏🏼💜

That’s what led me here. Pretty awesome to hear. The size of the gap in quality between the albums featuring him and the ones without him is stagger. They’ve made maybe 4 decent songs in total without him. They are one of the best bands ever with him, and arguably, a completely forgettable band without him.

Seems like he gets a lot more excited when asked about artists he likes as opposed to his own musical prowess. We all know John doesn't like the spotlight but it feels like his words flow more naturally when he's talking about the Cure for example.
In Utero is also my favorite Nirvana album... Kid A and OK computer are my favorite Radiohead albums... Listening to your second favorite band guitarist talking about how much he loves your favorite band and your third favorite band is like a dream come true.

At the time of this recording, John had already cemented himself as the guitarist of RHCP. As far as the rest of the world was concerned, there was no one else. Even their discography at this point showed that. Yet, he still talks about himself as though he’s almost a stand in for Hillel. What a humble dude. Many musicians talk about how “they’re in it for the music”. Few are as sincere as John. The dude couldn’t care any less about becoming famous. He just wants to make good music.

That’s what led me here. Pretty awesome to hear. The size of the gap in quality between the albums featuring him and the ones without him is stagger. They’ve made maybe 4 decent songs in total without him. They are one of the best bands ever with him, and arguably, a completely forgettable band without him.

Seems like he gets a lot more excited when asked about artists he likes as opposed to his own musical prowess. We all know John doesn't like the spotlight but it feels like his words flow more naturally when he's talking about the Cure for example.

I have the same feeling with the RHCP John had with REM.
He's so neurospicy; I love him. Glad he can really be himself in the band now. RHCP is such an interesting group of contrasting but complementary individuals.

John has said that when he was younger, he used to feel like he had to wear a "mask" all of the time, which is exhausting. It makes me happy that he appears to have felt much more comfortable expressing himself genuinely for a good portion of time now.

What he says here about REM, I hope John got to meet them. I did at their concert at a college years ago, right before they became wildly popular. They are very nice guys. John would have loved them.

At the time of this recording, John had already cemented himself as the guitarist of RHCP. As far as the rest of the world was concerned, there was no one else. Even their discography at this point showed that.
Yet, he still talks about himself as though he’s almost a stand in for Hillel. What a humble dude.
Many musicians talk about how “they’re in it for the music”. Few are as sincere as John. The dude couldn’t care any less about becoming famous. He just wants to make good music.
