I used my Defender for work for 7 years and covered 140,000 miles so my left knee is ruined. I fitted this spring and the LOF powerslave clutch cylinder recently and I can now drive in comfort. Well worth the effort and money. I found it was easier to fit the spring if you undo the 17mm bolt on the engine side of the pedal box which gives you more room to get the spring in.
I struggled to fit one of these until I screwed the clutch stop out, allowing the pedal to go down further, no problem then. I used snipe nosed Vice Grips, these saved a lot of struggling. I was extremely sceptical that it would make much difference, but the spring has transformed the clutch action. When I bought my TD5 I couldn't understand why the clutch was so heavy in comparison with my 300TDi, I have now found out. The good old bean counters at LR strike again, they must have saved at least 50p to ruin the clutch operation.
Installed it this morning, a huge difference and will make driving especially in towns much less tiring compared to a 'modern' car. Certainly recommend it as a cost effective and impactful upgrade. No need to be yet another Defender martyr complaining down the pub about their Defender!
Fitted mine this morning what a ball ache to fit!! I recommend compressing spring with copper wire then once it’s fitted just cut and remove it. Also you need a flexible back to get in there. Clutch does feel so much lighter 👍
Love this videos, just like the slick shift, small upgrades that make a nice difference and that we can easily make ourselves in our defenders. Great vid!
That’s what the LOF master cylinder is! Standard bore is 0.75 inch (3/4), the LOF is 0.70 inch, but you can pick up 0.70 inch master cylinders on eBay cheap, as they were used in lots of British cars.
Surely putting a spring on the pedal to assist with pressing will eliminate the necessary free play and cause the release bearing to run constantly, the equivalent of driving around with your foot resting on the clutch, a definite no no. Please tell me I’m wrong before all those installer’s have premature clutch failure.
I've had to admit defeat. Getting access to the 13mm bolt to remove the original spring is impossible on my TD5 xs. Fall back was to cut the spring, but then if I can't get the new one on I'm without a car. Msybe I'll pay the garage to do it at a later date. My wife won't drive it as it is, so maybe it's a blessing :)
@@TirsbaekTV I've set aside a couple of hours this morning to give it one more go or try to rectify it. Hopefully the former will work! Thanks for the reassuring reply
no it does not fit 200tdi you need to change the pedal box to a 300tdi i did this to my 200tdi its so much better to drive cost about 90 pounds. good luck
I just installed it on my Defender today and I'm feeling it a bit weird because the clutch pedal feels a bit higher up and you press it, it just feels like there is some sort of gap. Has anyone ever experienced this ?
Totally understand (and thanks for the feedback). We were actually discussing this the other day. We'll be out and about again very soon, hopefully taking the Disco off-road next.

Great idea. I’ve got a dodgy left knee and this will make a huge difference. Thank you

I ordered the slick shift kit and spring from LOF.
Love your work and positive attitude guys ! Thanks !
I give up, this spring is so difficult to fit, i hurt my hands several times, i can live with a heavy clutch
Any ideas, I’ve installed the spring correctly and now pedal stays on the floor?

It's not £20 add the vat and postage it's closer to £30 too expensive for a bit of spring steel and plastic bushes..
Or you could just do maintenence on the pedal box and make your clutch lighter than you'd ever imagine for free (and a little work!)
A nice little video. Great work 👍
But you don’t actually show how it was done 🤔
TRY A SMALLER INTERNAL BORE MASTER CYLINDER MAKES A LOT LIGHTER

It is possible to fit it on a Discovery td5?

It's an over centre spring
would love to try and fit one of these, maybe then missus could drive it, but if it looks difficult for Nisse, i'll keep working out with my left leg
Just bought one lets see if it works
going to see if this fits my one and then i will buy it and try it out cheers lads
can this be fitted into a series III- 109?
Defender only I believe
@@TirsbaekTV can you find out for me? I need a definitive answer? I appreciate it

Update. I removed the old spring but after too many hours I can't get the new one on. This has turned into a nightmare....
@@JAMESGRANGER You can still drive it without any spring.

@@JAMESGRANGER did you get it sorted? im toying with the idea of getting one. what's your honest opinion?
@@radiator0 I cheated and had a garage put it on when it was in for some other work. It is better
Oh come boys! I fitted mine last week and given my experience of the process, I was looking forward to learning some choice Danish swearwords 😂
Sorry to disappoint 😂
I'm getting one. Good info lads.
do you know if this available for a TD5 Discovery 2 ?
Believe it's Defender only, but you could try contacting LOF Clutches to see if they can help.
İs it suitable for discovery td5 2003 ?
Defender only I think, but I'd contact LOF to be sure 🙂
Is this really effective?
Yep!
@@TirsbaekTV I ordered it right away.

I’ve had this too… there’s almost a pop of no play?
Nice attempt, but You really do not see what is going on up there.
Roof rack / light bar / spot lamps come on lads !!!
it fit also with 1988 model? how can i contact u? i m from italy ciao
I don't think so, it only fits 300Tdi, Td5 and Puma models: lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/pedal-assist-products/l-o-f-powerspring-pedal-assister-kit/
Must catch your knee on that speaker all the time
