- Should you also buy an LOF Clutches heavy-duty clutch kit for your Land Rover Defender ? This is our honest review of almost a year after installing a POWERspec clutch kit for TDCi and the POWERmaster from LOF Clutches on our Land Rover Defender 2.4 TDCi Puma.
I go through our experiences replacing the clutches over all those year. LOF Clutches clutch kit is the fourth clutch we're going through and hope it'll be tougher and last longer than the Land Rover genuine ones.
Watcch until the end for the complete short-term review of LOD Clutches.
Big re-build of our Land Rover Defender during 2022 and a lot more to come.

Two thumbs up for LOF customer service. Luke was very polite and helpful when I bought his MT82 output shaft kit.
Thanks for sharing your good experience with LOF :)
Top guy Luke at LOF great customer service and quality parts. I have LOF front brakes fitted and a LOF powerspec clutch kit and MT82 output shaft ready to fit when my clutch fails or output shaft fails. I have the LOF clutch spring also it's on my to do list.
Nice! Can you give a quick feedback on the LOF brakes?
I love your honest review, it did make me laugh about the crappy parts 😊. Thank you for your informative video as always look forward to the next. Can't believe you've been through three clutches though 😲
Thanks for the message! :)
Puma 2.4 2007 150,000 Kms original clutch. But when it goes I'll take your advice. Very good information, charmingly presented.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Tanks for the feedback of the LOF clutches I will try to make an order to the island to a client of mine tanks a lot
Happy it helps :)
I had the spigot bearing break recently so have changed the clutch to the LOF Power spec for our overland pop top 2.2 TDCI 110, like you we had great service from the team at LOF,
However had to fit the Ashcroft MT82 output shaft as there were no LOF ones available - so far the clutch has been good but have had a small leak from the output shaft seal which is being sorted.
Like many others - Our defender has been teaching me how to be a mechanic for many years!
New skills as for many landy owners 😄. Glad you're also happy with LOF parts
Yes … it was a good Idea ☺️👌
With all the weight and equipment you’ll be carrying on and inside the car 😜
Absolutely! :)
I've gone through several clutch plates (AP and Valeo due to these being "OEM") on my 200TDi, in particular the springs either collapsing or breaking resulting in both failure modes having the springs fly out and jam up somewhere in the clutch preventing it's release, dangerous if trying to manouvre near other cars or people (can probably guess what happened there!). All lasted a few 1,000miles compared to an unknown and aged plate that eventually wore the friction material away.
I've just bought an LOF clutch on the basis the spring layout looks different than AP and Valeo so can't be the same part rebranded, hoping to have good success with it.
Hope you’ll have a good experience too with LOF parts 👍🏼
There is a special tool for spigot/pilot bearing removal (REMOVER 303-078). And from my experience it is crucial to use special tools on Land Rovers whenever topix says to do it ;-) Good luck!
Yes, there are special tools for many parts, our mechanics is well aware of that ;) Thanks for sharing the info
I did 500.000km+ with the original clutch on my Toyota 80 4.2l. Towing and some off-road. Hope you do well with this new one!
Wow this is great! Do you think it's still in good condition?
I did 50000000 om my clutch on my defender
@@offtrackfamily It was untill someone crashed into me and I had to let the car go :-(
I always tell my customers Landrover don't make parts, they out source them. Don't mix Lof clutch parts, all or nothing. 👍
🙂
I have the full LOF Road clutch on my TD5, for me the clutch is certainly no lighter than the standard clutch, I also have the spring (which constantly squeaks) !
We know TD5 is different from TD4 as said in the video. We also have that squeaky noise ;)
Ashcroft do not recommend fitting LOF clutches to TD5
Good Morning
1. Clutch
the first was changed after about 25000KM, only the clutch.
Reason, broken springs.
Replacement, reinforced clutch from LR without charge, warranty.
This was changed after about 45000KM, plus all other necessary parts.
Reason, worn out springs and/or bracket. Now reinforced clutch / set from another manufacturer.
Wait and see what happens.
The problem is not the coating of the clutch, but the springs and the bracket for the springs. Here the metal is too soft.
Partially broken springs, only the small ones, material defect?
2. Spare parts from LR
Ha ha, there are better solutions.
My personal feeling about the prices of LR, a bad joke!
That's still putting it politely.
3. Original shaft
This part was also replaced last year, but still looked good after about 75000KM.
As reported, I had first bought the part from the UK, but not installed.
Reasons were communicated, I'm curious how your shaft works.
An original shaft was installed, but with the appropriate grease.
Have fun converting and spending money.
Thanks for sharing your clutch background, similar to what we experienced with all those clutches, springs seems to be the major weakness.
Which land rover do you have?
@@offtrackfamily TD4 110HT MY 2007
Hydraulic the the spigot bearing out, fill with grease and hammer a bar the size of the id of bearing and it will drive it out.
👍
Interested to ask more about the LOF clutch spring. Does a lighter clutch mean potentially mean less feedback when off roading on bouncy roads? Really thinking about it for the wife for general driving, but don't want to loose that feedback when bouncing over a difficult up hill area. Would this explanation capture your opinion or am I over thinking this assistance spring?
We live in Malawi and have lots of areas with major potholes/gulleys and need to change speed a lot hence regular use of the clutch, but also don't want my foot balance jumping off the pedal with those bumps. Hence thinking of just going with the same setup as yourselves. Thoughts?
Keep up the great videos... Really helpful.
We are very happy with our setup but it's difficult to give a good advice for a personal feeling whether a lighter clutch pedal would be better or not, also depending on which Defender you have. I would recommend you contact LOF, Luke can certainly help you on that question. Thanks for the message:)
Oh my, that garage price mark up on the clutch kit was absurd. If the LOF clutch kit has a longer life and better quality operation, it is obviously a good choice.
This was crazy! We also think it's a good investment so hope it'll last longer
Spigot bearing yes ewery time. My Defender has 4700km I changed my clutch only one time and stil works as almost new and its valeo one.
Cheers. 🍺&🍷
Good to know for the spigot :)
@@offtrackfamily To take it out you cut it in one place so you can pull it out easyer. 😉 New one you put in oil ower night and some drops of oil before fiting gearbox but no to much.
Car manufacturers only make a small proportion of the parts in a car themselves. Most spare parts you buy from the dealer of course are repackaged supplier-made parts. There is no doubt it is cheaper to use parts made by a genuine supplier to the automotive industry than the parts you get from the dealer. The problem is the aftermarket car parts business is awash with parts from suppliers claiming to be providing "OEM " standard parts who are not actual suppliers to the car manufacturers and are making parts of a lower standard, it's really hard to tell what is really of good quality unless you have detailed of who the best genuine suppliers to the automotive industry are and what parts they actually make themselves. On the other hand, you have to consider that the aftermarket parts business cherry-picks the high volume parts whereas we expect to be able to buy all possible parts from the car manufacturer/dealer and that costs a lot of money to package store and distribute all those lower volume parts all over the world, that is at least a partial justification for the higher prices from the dealer.
Thanks for sharing this detailed explanation with which I agree and explains also why we still buy parts from the LR dealer.
Dr Martins girl 🤩👍🏻🤔 and I love it when you revert to Swiss/French 🥰 🥜er
😆
Want one for my suzuki jimny jb74 😊
👍🏼

Trop mignonne un plaisir de vous suivre
🙂 j espère que le contenu aide un peu
@@offtrackfamily j’ai également changé deux fois mon embrayage sur un defender je suis passé à Toyota 🥲
I can’t see, last week I spent 1500€ in clutch kit in my Ford van. 😭 Mauro
That's a huge amount also!
why the click bait ?
omg. this woman is too adorable.
LOL I think it maybe time for a trip ....eh

Young lady I think that was the first time I ever heard you swear, you do have a little bad girl in you.
That's because you don't hear me speak french ;)
@@offtrackfamily lol….. your so right
Most. True 4×4. PEOPLE go with a automatic trans. ..BECAUSE you will all ways go throw clutches no matter what when 4×4ing....it will LAST in city driveing....just so you know
Don't really agree with that. For example what happens if your electronic system fails and not in neutral position? You're stuck and can't even tow or push the car. We saw this happen in real life and wouldn't like this to happen to us, especially in the middle of nowhere.
I don't agree either, I have used both manual and auto in the bush. Manual is superior
Click bait
I don't know your name, but I want you to know that you're gorgeous
