For a working Defender it might be too tall. What I did on mine, as I'm running on 33 inch tyres, is just changed the 5th gears to V8 ones but the transfer box is best to remain 1.4. Its a nice upgrade for sure. Cheers.
Lovely video as always. Watching here from Sri Lanka. I believe after England and not sure about Africa, Sri Lanka has the most number of running condition defenders. Every time I get on my wheels, I never miss spotting defender before reaching home. I am looking at buying defender 90 and already have inspected few. May be I can get some advice from you later. Keep up the techi work.
Have just done this with my TD5. Had the 1.2 installed years ago, and had the V8 0.7 5th gear installed 2 months ago. It should have come from the factory like this from the start!!
I enjoy watching your builds, but been notice you've been using too much sealant on the gaskets. A tip it's to lay down a bead of sealant, and then spread it out with a finger using a glove.
Fantastic video guys as always, very informative, more like this would be amazing. Looks like my planned 90 restoration with its Disco Td5 power plant swap is also going to get a 5th gear upgrade as well. Look forward to seeing the next video.😎👍
Great video. I just bought a td5 2002 yesterday so how do I know this is a R380? Some people say if R is below 5th it is and others say if its got a shorter back housing etc. I believe there was 4 types of R380
Any chance you can do a video about lookng for play in the drive line? I have TD5 and if i go between forwards and reverse there is lots of slop in the drive line that i can't find so im suspecting it might be in the gearbox to transferbox link?
95% finished with my 1987 defender 90 thanks to your videos thank you!!! Not sure if you can share pics on here I will send it to your instagram if you still have it
Yup, love my NAS defender that comes with the 1.2 tranny already from the factory. Question, what are your thoughts about doing a Cummins 4bt 3.9liter diesel, R2.8 cummins or doing 4.6l rover v8 conversions?
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!
UPDATE: having driven over 500 miles already, immediate improvement in road noise and fuel economy. A stage 1 or 2 remap is on the horizon though to restore hill climbing 😂

Just ordered a replacement R380 with the higher 5 th gear for by TD5 90. Looking forward to see the difference.
Having both these mods done to my TD5… will follow with an update in due course!
Now they are two very interesting mods to do on the R380 gearbox. Another great video from all at the 'Juice' team.
👍👍👏👏
Such a difference Sam! One of the best modifications to a Def. Thanks for a great vid.
Amazing. Video was very helpful. Have been struggling for years to find a solution. Thank you.

Have you done it on a standard td5 or remapped one?
@@jacklyall3456 I have a BAS remap to Disco TD5 spec, no egr, no cat and no centre box.
So many videos recently, a rare and delectable treat

Very educative video about landrover, could you give us the ratio of the counter gear and the fifth gear pliz.

Great work you do at Juice motors, I really enjoyed this video.
The videos are really helpful thanks! Do you by any chance have a part number for the 5th gear and the transfer box?
Grinning from ear to ear! Love that!😁
Three videos in a month my birthday has come a month early 👍🏻🏴

Reverse below 5th 😁
Do you sell any of those caps? They look sick. A trucker style mesh backed set would be awesome too, I'd buy some for sure
Hi. I want to ask if you have any for sale or if you can advise where I can buy this rubber mat for the interior. defender 90
Made my Monday watching this 👌👊

Great video guys I have a 98 TDI what is the rough price to have this done ? Thanks 😊
Trying to work out the same for my TD5. Im debating sticking with the 1.4 and going V8 5th as I have 33s and tow. Any thoughts?
What sort of mpg gains can be expected from dropping the revs by that much on a 300tdi
Is this done on a standard or remapped td5? Heard various things about the engine not being able to pull now?
Can you do the gear mod only and not bother with the transfer box but still get lower rpm’s at the higher end?
Yes, certainly can - it’ll reduce the top gear by 5% - most effective with a lower ratio transfer box though
Cracking job. Do you possible have the link to the exact 5th gear you used? Cheers
@bobzy1235 Google “FTC5042” that’s the part number for the gear you’ll need 👍🏻
@@juicemotorsAmazing thank you very much
@@juicemotors amazing Job !!, can you pls share the instruction document? thanks in advance
Magníficos videos, aquí desde Sevilla España. Enhorabuena de un aficionado a los Land Rover Defender.

Yep and also burn cutches in 1st.

So interesting, do you have a center in Africa? Please reply.

What an awesome and helpful video 👌💯
What is fuel economy like with mod?
62 mph is max in my td5 faster than that it doesn’t sound happy. Watching video with great interest 😁
Everything is well done.
Brilliant video, very interesting lots. More like It, thank you..👏🏾👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you - this was a great video
Nice job, Boys!
Do you get a high ratio 5th gear for LT77?
Yes there’s a kit for the LT77 too, the gear drops the revs by 200rpm on the LT77
@@juicemotors Would you say that is worth it or not really? 200 Tdi

Awesome 😍
Remember, there's just asmuch silicone gloop squeezed out on the inside ov the box as the outside.. that poor old oil pump...!
Come on guys and girls!! Who else clicks the like button within the 1st few words spoken!?!?! 🤣
Did anyone do simple maths at school ??
😂
Should be more economical aswell
Доброго здоров'я привіт з Одеси Україна.
Way to much silicone 😂
