- Questions of the day: What Golf Cart is better Gas or Electric?
This is a very heated topic on our Facebook Group Page.
This should be a two part video, So much you could discuss on this topic.
Let us know what you like better. Thanks to Cory Osteen,Travis Andrews and Matt Allred.

I like my old club car and it's always charged with the solar roof top I built . Great video and thanks for sharing
Solar roof, huh? How simple is that?
I will take an EFI gas cart right now even here in 2021. The evolution of lithium power still has even more advancements to come still. I love the distance on gas EFI carts and with the ease of oil changes on gas engines its no big deal.
Even better with the older two stroke models like yamaha G1
My club car runs 35 mile hr
500 control not fully raised haft raised change gear in transmission it's great 👍
The biggest difference for me is ride quality. Electric is smoother and does not have the vibration you get from the gas carts. Electric is also way quieter and allows you to have a conversation much easier while on the cart.
I really want a gas cart!! I currently have a 36 volt electric cart. It just doesn't have the power that I want. I have priced getting it converted to a 48 volt, but haven't made up my mind. The main reason I have an electric cart is, I carry it on our camping trips. I found out through a golf cart dealer that most campgrounds don't allow gas carts, he says especially in Florida. I thought about taking my chances and still getting a gasser but will see!!
If you put a charging port that will charge the system riding down the road it would go for ever.should be able to do this with like a belt on a generator..i seen something about Telsa looking at this said it put power back into the system
Lithium is very expensive and last about five years. making the batteries and disposing of the batteries is highly polluting. More than a gasoline engine.
@i don’t know. Your name fits that statement. Lithium batteries only last 5 years? Ezgo is running and 8 year warranty for lithium. Lithium does not die like lead acid, it just loses some capacity.
sounds like you dont know about Lithium batteries. Most now are 10 year warranty but still have a charge life of a couple thousand cycle as compared to lead acid of only 350 ro so.
What's up? Have a question... what can be done with a non lifted EZGo RXV? I don't wanna lift it, except maybe 2 or 3 inches in the rear for weight and clearance in the dips so rear deck won't scrape
I have a 2008 club car DS it goes forward but not backwards if I jack it up on the ground it don’t roll good batteries
The biggest issue with most ever cart except for Tomberlin Carts, are no matter how fast you get them, most only have be able rear drum brakes! that on any cart that goes over the legal reasonable limit of 25? Is dangerous! I was driving my wife cart one day, because mine needed new batteries, I was going going at around 22-25 mph, when I had some idiot run a stop sign right in front of me, in an area where the sprinklers had got the road a little wet, I hit the brakes not really used to that cart and the rear wheels locked up an I spun 180 degrees around and I stopped right as the rear bumper hit the side of the old bat's car! If I had been in my Tomberlin Cart, I would have just come to a nice stop, without contact. So to build carts with only rear mechanical brakes is very dangerous!
My Club Car with a Navitas motor and controller has a regen dial that I use for going down hills and for quick stops that stops better than the brakes. It makes it to where I barely use the brakes at all everywhere I go.
I have my eyes on a carryall 1700. What are the options to make it electric? My goal is to get the best off road options and the quietness of an electric.
Thanks and great talk through on the pros of both.
All 3 of the top manufacturers will sell a Electric Version of maintenance style carts like the Carryall. If you plan on going off road you may want to look into upgrading the stock motor and controller for more Speed and Torque.
I have a ezgo 08 mpt 1000 I just got the navitas 600A ac conversion its tits
this is like saying which is better, a trackhawk or a tesla, they are both fast but they are just different.
ya covered all the points, bro. nutz. as long as got sounds, im good.
I want to do the navitas 600 amp controller with the 5kv motor but I have a club car ds and the 5kv won't fit, pisses me off. If there was a easy way of doing it I would, hell I have 2 wheel spacers take 1 off and shift the rear 2" so that the motor clears the rear frame. I'm a thinking 2" should make it fit nice if not then I'll go the 4 kv motor. Only other problem i see is where do you mount the rear shocks? If anyone has done a 5kv in a ds let me known how u did it. I do have a lift kit so might just have enough clearance. As for the electric being towed home by the gas when the batteries run out, well they make a hybrid 300 miles on a quote single charge and yes there are some that will not only charge your batteries, it will do so while driving down the street running off the hybrid setup. Some are even 4x4. I figured use a harbor freight motor and try to find a 48 volt alternator or I know some use a gas ac
generator @ 220 volts 30-60 amps to a ac to dc inverter or some type of charging system. I think I'm going to try and make one hell when your out usually stopping for drinks or icecream ect 20 min hi amp charge probably keep you going without any issues whatsoever.
Is your cart lifted? If it is, the 5KW will fit. Throw the shocks in the trash can. We do. You can also just build a simple bracket to move the shock over.
@@GolfCartsModified I think it's a 3inch spinal lift with 3 in blocks on the rear axle, is that enough to clear the frame or would I have to go bigger lift fit, and what about compressed with the 3in lift, I always have like 4-5 people. If so awesome I was told that you have to buy a IQ wiring harness part #39000, is that the case only thing I see different more or less is a toggle F&R switch correct, you would have to run the wires to the dash. Have you ever done a video of putting together a club car ds with the navitas 600a controller and 5kw motor? If not, I know that I'm not the only one who has questions lol. Also. Thanks for the advice subbed
@@dtc6776 I can send you the exact specs and size on the motor and you can measure it. If this is a series DS, then you need other parts for sure. We have a procedure for converting Series ds carts. this is going to be easier if you just reach out to me at golfcartsmodifiedsales.com
This is Travis.
can you attach a solar panel on a battery golf cart?
Yes. They sell kits. They work to trickle charge but won't give you much in the way of longevity of travel.
Stephen V great answer
Will the Navitas 5K fit in a 1992 ezgo marathon
You put yourself in a very SAFE position-- good for you.
" Preference " and what you want to spend over the long haul....
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, man came along and created the internal combustion. That's where I stand. :)
How do ya get reverse in a gas cart?
100% matter of preference.
electric is my preference, way more reliable ( as long as they are maintained) and so much nicer to drive and even stock RXVs when put in freedom mode are quite fast
I'm going Electric
Any insight on where to get lithium batteries for 48v cart?
Relion, big battery.com.
36 MPH is where I let off on 40's cart because it isn't aligned still.
Hey I have 2 questions... is it legal to ride golf carts just around your neighborhood and also I’m trying to convince my parents to let me get one but I can’t spend a lot of money any recommendations? Thanks!
Hey Collier every State and city has different regulations. Here in Texas you can actually register a Golf cart for Low Speed areas. My daughter and I drive hers around every night.
Make sure to double check with your local law enforcement. As for a cart find a cheap one online and build it yourself. It teaches patience and much more. It will also mean more to you when you are finished
You would have made a good diplomat ! 😂
I think this is just like Ford vs Chevy. Whatever your preference and application. I prefer gas because of range and I like gas engines. Well done Ryan!!!!!
It’s crazy how often this question still comes up.
@@GolfCartsModified unfortunately. Lol
Lol what's with the Ford signs??
I’m a Cobra Nut!! Lol
@@GolfCartsModified I appreciate em, but I'm a vette dude, IMO the American Legend!
getting a GOPRO would stop that DINGY THING...... lol
Wait … they still make gas powered golf carts. :-)
Skip to 1:30 to get to the question...
Gas
100k 😊🎉😊😊🎉😊
You need a secretary
Gas is better than electricity
Can you get 4 wheel doc brakes
100k💪
Gas no doubt
you cant take gas cart to no parks to no fun places only electric
To me a gas conversion was cheaper
@dannyo3280 do you have a link
100k
I don’t like the fact that there is no deadly exhaust coming from the electric carts...and I love doing the mechanical work on my gas cart, makes me feel like a man...the plugs, oil changes, filter and complex little dynamo system to get it going, are great to mess with!!! The worst of all with those electric carts is using a freakin’ solar panel and getting free power...gross!!
Maybe youll see the back end of my cart as I pass your gas cart doing 35+mph lol
👌👍😉
Click bait
It was one of my first videos. Sorry I was learning how to do this
