  • If you are shopping for a newer golf cart you NEED to see this video. I go over some of the pros and cons of electric and gas golf carts, as well as a few of the differences between the EZGO RXV golf cart and the Yamaha Drive 2 QuieTech EFI gas golf cart. I know that some guys are going to strongly disagree with the points I make in this video but I would love to hear from someone that can LOGICALLY DISPROVE any of the information that I have provided in this video. Sorry this video got so long, I actually cut out about another 15 minutes worth of video trying to shorten it up as much as I could. There is just a lot of information about this subject. Thanks for watching!

    couple corrections, number one regen braking and the electric parking brake are 2 separate things. regen is for service braking and the electric motor brake is only to lock the cart in place, it does not do any braking when you push on the brake pedal. number 2 is that a gas cart will not always get the same range or performance over time. wear in the carb (not applicable to EFI models), primary and secondary clutch, cables adjustments, drive belt, valve adjustment etc can effect the fuel economy and performance. third thing is that although yes the motor brakes can fail on RXVs i see way more failures that cause the brakes to not function on regular cable operated brakes that cause rollaways. other than that, pretty spot on. we find most people around here have electric due to rules about not running gas carts in the areas that allow them. i personally prefer electrics and find them way more reliable.

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment! Sorry things got a little confusing with the brake issue, as you can tell I'm not a big RXV guy. I think as the Quietech's become more available there will start to be less areas that are electric only. I have already seen a ton of courses around here switch their fleets from electric to the Quietechs because they are quiet enough to keep everyone happy and the operating cost are so much lower for a gas fleet than an electric fleet. Another point on lithium batteries is they don't like to be stored at 100%. Storing lithium batteries above 80-90% causes them to gas off and swell which prematurely kills their life expectancy. So that's another consideration in comparing them to lead acid or AGM batteries.

    Something to consider is if you are transporting your cart to different locations Campgrounds, golf courses, retirement communities many now have banned gas powered carts. Also spend the extra money and buy the LifePO4 batteries they last for 15 to 20 years no maintenance, and you can run them to 0% and no damage occurs, compared to Lead Acid Batteries.

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  4 місяці тому

      It depends on your location. We are in Kansas and there are no campgrounds, communities, or courses in the mid west that I have ever heard of that "banned" gas golf carts. Most of them prefer gas carts since they don't need any electricity to charge back up. Anywhere that did ban gas carts was probably because of the old noisy and smelly 2-stroke carts of the 80s. New 4-stoke and EFI carts aren't any different than driving a car.
      LifePO4 batteries lasting for 15 to 20 years is 100% false. Most of the lithium battery manufacturers are claiming that their batteries will last 8 to 12 years (vs the 3 to 5 years of a lead acid battery). And if you run your lithium to 0%, yes it won't hurt it, but you still have to tow it home!
      Thanks for watching!

    Just as an FYI, in Arizona, 48 volt lead acid batteries only last about 4 years due to the heat being so hard on them. You have to water the batteries with distilled water about once a month. Wear only clothes you don't care about when you do it! Also, think about getting a rubberized pad for underneath your cart because if you miss, the water will go on your garage floor and discolor it. As of 2024, the cost to replace lead acid batteries in a EZGO golf cart is $1,800.

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  28 днів тому

      Since most fleet models don't come with hour meters, it's tough to determine what a "normal" engine life span is. As long as it was maintained well, I would guess that 1400 hours is about half way through it's engine life.
      That being said, 1400 hours and 1400 miles are two completely different things. I'm sure that it didn't drive 1 mph, so there is no way that it would have 1400 hours and 1400 miles at the same time. 1400 miles would only be about 5 or 6 tanks of fuel, so very low miles. I would assume that they just mean 1400 hours.

  • @jameshalbirt5807
    @jameshalbirt5807 2 роки тому +5

    A few corrections I would like to make.
    Re: Electrics
    Lithium has definitely been tested and proven viable as a replacement to gas.
    They have been in vehicles (Full EV) since 2010. You can find those still running with original batteries 12 years later.
    Pro Grade tools have used them for about the same time. Mac Tools, Snap On , Dewalt etc etc
    If they weren’t meeting the grade, people would not be depending on them.
    Indy cars are going electric as are fleet delivery vehicles.
    Here are some of the benefits of Lithium that you either didn’t mention or glazed over a bit.
    Lithium batteries get 5000 cycles vs Lead Acids 500-1000 this means they will last 5x longer , not twice as long.
    Lithiums double your range for direct replacements. 70 miles on a charge.
    Lithium’s can be discharged down to 10-20% vs Lead acids 50-55%
    Lithium batteries offer full power for the duration of the cycle, unlike Lead which start losing performance as soon as they start discharging
    Lithiums weigh about 20% of a Lead acid which increases the speed of and the payload capacity of your Golf cart
    Lithiums do NOT have to be kept on a charger when not in use. It will not damage the battery like a lead acid will.
    Lithiums charge much much faster than lead acid
    Now on to advantages for electric in general .
    If you are taking it to campgrounds.
    Charging them is free at your site
    Many campgrounds don’t allow Gasser carts
    They make almost no noise
    You can overvolt and replace the controller of an electric golf cart to get that 30-40 mph. Very easy
    Electric golf carts have instant torque and reach max power output immediately where as gassers make power as they move through the rpm band.
    So, short burst spot hopping is faster
    Most of the other stuff you said is true, a Gasser where possible is still the better choice. But the disparity is not as large as you mentioned.

    • @PowerEquipmentMan
      @PowerEquipmentMan  2 роки тому +2

      This video has been up for a year and you are the first person that has came up with any logical information for electric carts. Thank you! I do still have to disagree with you about lithium being "proven" specifically in the golf cart industry. Golf carts are very different from any other application. Golf carts have only been widely using lithium for less then 5 years. Sure there may have been a few people testing with them before that, but they have actually only been in production for less then 5 years. So all the people/companies saying that the lifespan of a lithium battery in a golf cart application is 10 to 12 years is purely guessing based on perfect conditions. It will be another 10 years before we have enough actual data to look at and determine how long they really last in 'real world' use. Maybe by then they will also be more affordable! I have no doubt that lithium batteries will be just like lead acid when it comes to "you get what you pay for". Cheap Chinese lithium batteries will most likely have a significantly shorter life cycle than higher quality, so it would be foolish for anyone to think that they can go buy any battery and it will last 10 plus years and they will be able to go 70 miles on a charge. Distance is directly related to speed, terrain, tire size, # of passengers, load, etc. Upgraded electrical parts to get more speed can get VERY expensive, and increased speed = less distance on a charge. As far as noise goes, the Quietech is still rated at only 1 decibel louder than an electric (doesn't matter if its lead acid or lithium). I personally would much rather hear the rumble from a gas engine than the whine of an electric motor.
      Thanks again, I really do appreciate all the good information! Thanks for watching

      @jameshalbirt5807 2 роки тому

      @@PowerEquipmentMan nice to talk to you. For evidence of Lithium soundness in Golf Carts (while I agree it’s not proven directly) They are more than proven in Scooters , High power tools and cars. At the end of the day an electric golf cart is the same as these because of their simplicity. Batteries-> Controller-> Electric Motor
      Also you can’t assume cheap. Could you use cheap parts, sure, but from a top level manufacturer I doubt that would happen. The downsides with crappy cells is they can explode.
      My main point is that the full story wasn’t quite told.
      You can look for guidance in the market.
      The top vehicle companies are all going Lithium. There’s a reason for that.

They're still running strong but nearing their advertised lifespan. I bought electric because my mind says it has less parts to go wrong, easy access for repairs, quicker repair time if needed, and as long as the batteries are charged, your chance of going from point A to B and back are more guaranteed without breaking down. There's arguments for both sides and they're valid. It really comes down to what makes you happier. And we all live with our choices. My only delima is choosing lithium or acid when the time comes. Based on data, lithium wins but not on price. 🤔

  • @cheytactical
    @cheytactical 3 роки тому +1

    For the ones that don't want to stick around for 23 minutes. Heres a 11/2 minute rebuttal.
    First thing first. Everyone says electric is torquey but don't let that deceive you. Though they kick they are extraordinarily slow. They can be modified but since they are controlled Via ECU they can easily have speed limiters programed into them. Gas on the other hand require a transmission modification to do this. And just because gas carts are cheap. Doesn't mean the transmission is too
    Another misconception is that gas engines are hard to maintain and it's quite the opposite. Acid batteries are not only expensive they are Extremely Fucking Heavy. Just 1 12V is 64 lbs. And commonly with EV carts they have 4/5 which is about 370-410 lbs additionally added. Whilst most single-cylinders are around 170-200 lbs and can be lighter with light weight performance parts. Which also improve the performance of the engine
    Plus the design has been around for decades. There are so many super obtainable engines and parts for gas carts that cost half the price. And finally the biggest of them all is with a 6 gallon tank for a gas cart can last for months before refuel. And EV's need a refill everyday. Let that sink in.

      A quick google search yielded the following results:
      In decibel terms, a doubling in loudness corresponds to roughly an increase in 10 dB. It doesn't matter whether that increase is from 40 dB to 50 dB or 70 dB to 80 dB.
      A 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy (remember that a 3 dB difference is a doubling of energy levels). In terms of subjective loudness, a 1 dB change yields just over a 7% change. A 3 dB change yields a 100% increase in sound energy and just over a 23% increase in loudness.
      One decibel (0.1 bel) equals 10 times the common logarithm of the power ratio. Expressed as a formula, the intensity of a sound in decibels is 10 log10 (S1/S2), where S1 and S2 are the intensity of the two sounds; i.e., doubling the intensity of a sound means an increase of a little more than 3 dB.
