Aaron Mauer - John I am not sure if you saw but it has been reported by many news outlets that rube rose will be exiting the CW’s batwoman. This is just days after the season finale which makes me think she didn’t just give notice but waited to announce it. With a season 2 being renewed do you think her departure is because of unhappiness with story or something more?

She probably expected the show to be more gritty and serious, like we all did. The writing and production sucks. She's right to bail
Stephen Amell set the standard for how lead actors should behave in the CW Arrowverse.
He showed up on time, was always gracious and went over and above what was asked of him to be physically fit and prepared before and during the filming of the show.
@History Eraser Button Yeah i don' t know the whole story, no one does at this point. I can't be bothered with the show and i'm not particularly a fan of the actress. Shes fine. But spinal injuries are no joke, it doesn't matter if she's a hollywood star or an average person. Now maybe the other stuff is true, but until we know the whole story, it bothers me that people are disregarding the spinal injury. I've suffered through it as well, and even now, it's on and off. She had it even worse, having to actually go under the knife.
Melissa Benoist as Supergirl also works hard for her role too!
And Stephen Amell had a panic attack. Melissa Benoist fell asleep while shooting the Crisis on Earth X Crossover scene where Kara floats in the bed because she was so tired, who knows what Grant deals with.
Ruby broke her two hernia discs and was on the verge of paralysis, she also had surgery plus someone else from the batwoman team got permanently paralysed from waste down and another died.
All in all the batwoman set just doesn’t seem like a safe environment to work at unlike arrow did.
Mellisa was filming supergirl whilst she was pregnant and there were no problems/accident unlike in the batwoman set.
Something is going on in the batwoman set that they are not telling us, it’s clear as day
@@haiderz4510 I think the Arrow production team was careful to select people on the basis of their physical training and strenght. Ruby Rose did not have the physical preparation of Caity Loitz or Stephen Amell but had to work just as hard physically and her batsuit, along with the mask and wig are probably more uncomfortable than the arrow suit.

I personally never had any problems with her acting. The problem was the show's script. And I'm telling you, they can get the best actress in the world but if the script is bad it won't change anything.
TheClown AMEN
The show was good. It just they didn't have alot of freak of the week vibes. They made the story so long of what there're doing. I thought it was good.
GoT season 8.....
Lol. Wtf. You probably enjoyed Ben Stiller's heartwarming portrayal of Simple Jack too.
Same
Now they need to replace the writers and everyone else.
No
Josue Rios Yes, watch the sopranos or the wire , these are shows with good writing!
What's the point of replacing the directors or the writers if it's on TheCW?

Not a great loss. She has all the acting ability and charisma of a plank.
Let’s be honest tho, most cw superhero shows are written like trash
I think things went downhill from the line she quoted about Batman during the trailer before the season started. Not her fault.
And just for that ,I won't even bother to watch the pilot
And when your show about standing for your ideology than tell a good story......good luck with that
Except in context the line works, the trailer is bad. But the show (I have watched up to the crossover) isn't anything like the trailer, or at least less over bearing.
@@penegakkeadilanpembasmikej5022 the show good. It not like every 5 min. Talk about women power. It improving. I don't base on my show on a trailer. Cause it ruin n spoil everything for me. I base on going in fresh n take it from there.
I know that LGBT representation is something that Hollywood is working on... But personally I'd prefer if they audition people who are a great fit for the role over over getting an actor who is LGBT. I mean, yeah they can say they encourage LGBT performers to audition, but please cast someone who can elevate the role and the IP... oh.. also elevate the terrible offensive writing.
🤣🤣🤣 so true. The writing. 🤮
She was alright, I watched a little over half the season. They need some better writers tho

CW shows, especially Arrowverse shows, are tightly budgeted and hard grinds. Makes it challenging to attract big names. Add to that the pressure of taking over the lead role on what has apparently been an unhappy set. They are going to need someone with lot of series experience, someone used to the grind, so while it may not be a big name, it will likely be a familiar face.
“Oh no what a bummer! Rose has set the bar too high for the character of Batwoman. Her performance was just so charismatic and nuanced.”
-Nobody Ever 2020
But I thought nobody watched the show, so how would they know?
Even if nobody watched the show, then my comment is still true because they wouldn’t praise a performance they haven’t seen.
Well, I can’t comment on the show (the trailers didn’t really entice me), but I really liked Rose in John Wick 2 and The Meg. I hope she moves on to bigger and better things.
I watched the first few episodes, and I had to stop. It was just so poorly written. She managed to find the entrance to the Batcave, sneak in without any alarms or such going off, and when she was finally discovered by a scrawny and inept Luke Fox, she forced him to redesign it for her. She stole the Batsuit! And that is just the beginning...
She was silent in John Wick 2. That's why she was good.
Well I can’t talk to you about her acting cuz I watched the first 3 episodes then I killed myself and my ghost is the one who wrote this comment
Austin Reed 😂😂😂
Same 😂
Surprised you lasted through three episodes.
Might of been 2 I don’t remember
I am honestly surprised that this made so much news. I didn't know this many people cared. Not a single person in my everyday life has ever mentioned this show. Ever.
and the critics said that they're shocked. But later on they admit they never really watch the show.
Batwoman l3 ratings in the US are above 1 million and it airs in many countries. Lets say 2 million watch in total, to be on the safe side. You only need 50 to 80 thousand to make a wave, plus around 10 thousand who don't watch but love gossip and around 5 thousand haters who will post 20 times about it negatively to anyone who listens.
This has actually happened before, but a long long time ago: the show Babylon 5. Michael O'Hare played the lead for season 1, however due to medical and mental issues they had to let him and his character go and they brought in Bruce Boxleitner for a new lead seasons 2 onward.
I love Babylon 5! I have all 5 seasons, the movies, and Crusade XD At least B5 turned out well and while I don't watch Batwoman, or anything the CW does anymore, I hope going forward it all works out. :)
He was the One, but not the One.
The main difference here, though, is that Sinclair and Sheridan were explicitly two different people within the world of the show. They didn't make any attempt to pretend that there wasn't a change in the lead actor. That's going to be trickier here, since the lead character is the title role of the show. Pretending that a new person with a different face is still Kate Kane is going to be a harder sell. (Not impossible, mind you, but more difficult regardless.)
The CW is actually surprisingly good at keeping their behind the scenes drama behind closed doors. The Dynasty reboot literally recast the roles of Cristal and Alexis (Cristal was even recasted twice) and all of those recasts were only confirmed after the seasons had ended or shortly before the show made it obvious there would be a recast. Well all know that show is a mess behind the scenes but it was never revealed what happened. Also, tbh nobody really seems to care about that show, but still.
Thing is with the CW, they tend to reuse actors/actresses in multiple shows. Look at Katie Cassidy.
Dc need to take all their shows back. Even the flash has gone downhill this season and Stargirl is a better example of what should be expected
She’s not a very good actress and that show was destined to fail. Everyone knew this just from the trailer alone.
hear hear
Cause she don't have any villian to Fight , she keep fighting her father
The scene where she gave the street woman her watch was cringy. Stunts like that don't help people in real life and naturally the white guy was the villain for simply pointing that out. And man if I was the show's writer I would had wrote that Bat Man had been injured, he's kind of to proud to reach out for help so Alfred calls Bat Woman and ask her to help. Then their is a scene where injured Bat Man, not yet healed tries to fight criminals again, is nearly killed and Bat woman shows up and he says "You were right, I need help." Bat woman then says "But do you think I am really good enough to wear this uniform." The first episode ends when Bruce says. "It's not just the uniform. It's the person behind it. Their is only one way to find out if you got what it takes. Become The Bat." And Bat woman punches our way toward the camera. To be continued. From then on Bruce hones her skills through instructions and Alfred even offers what support that he can.
The trailer was horrible but the show actually didnt fail, it got a second season
Tomas Langevin-côté you’re right but it will be interesting to see how a second season goes with a totally different actress. Also, compared to the other Arrowverse series, batwoman and supergirl did so bad in ratings this last season (even when people are binging more than ever rn with covid) that i was pretty shocked it got a season 2.
to save this show they have to make it THE BAT(MAN) SHOW
This show is crap. I hope they don't recast and just cancel it altogether.
Pretty much
I've been watching this show because almost everyone on UA-cam was bashing it. After I finished it, I had a headache for over a week because of how bad this shit show was. But what do you expect from the CW I mean cmon!
They should just trash it!
😭
It's sad what has happened to the CW
Ronnie Vega everything they do turns into the same exact show. It’s a shame too cause there are multiple shows that have had great first season. Flash and arrow started off amazing. Even the first season of river dale was ok. They have no idea how to follow up
MADDOG THEOG CW have good shows tho
@Scott Kendall Exactly. The problem isn't a lack of material to adapt, it's the people in charge of adapting said material with quality first and foremost.
The writers are the problem they need to be changed...
The lead actor in Doctor Who (2005) was out after one season, but I don't know if that was always intended or not. With that said, Doctor Who at least has the whole regeneration thing to explain the change in actors.
Christopher Eccleston (the ninth doctor who) left that show after the first season of its reboot. but it sure seems rare for sure
Closest thing I can think of was the change in the actor to play Darren in Bewitched decades ago. Then again he was only a secondary lead.
I remember at a time there was another show i used to watch back in the 90"s ! The show was called SuperBoy Season 1!..The show stared John Newton, then came season 2 of SuperBoy recast again with Gerald Christopher which ran for 3 more seasons of the series!....Yep Stranger things have happened!😎🍻🥃🥃
It happened with that Cosby Show spinoff called A Different World, when Lisa Bonnett left after just one season... But that was like 30 years ago, but it has happened before
Also, new Doctor Who. Christopher Eccleston left after only one season and that was fairly recent.
Lisa Bonnet didn’t leave on her own will. There was a scandal. Something about her getting pregnant and Bill Cosby removing her from A Different World and putting her back on the Cosby Show. Something like that. Look it up.
In the words of Nelson Muntz: “your star is gone, ha ha”
I'm sorry I've seen the show. And I overlooked the bashing it got on UA-cam. But the show is actually bad, the writing for one is the main reason. Rose is not a horrible actress she's ok. But that script didn't help her role at all. I just hope now they cast someone who can get the show to mainstream.
Nice my question got picked
Congrats bro!
10:27 WB released a statement saying they want an LGBTQ actress.
Choosing the best person for the role is not their priority.
Same thing happened with the doctor who revival series to answer your question. The lead left after one successful season
Steven Hill best known as Adam Schiff on the original Law and Order was the lead on Mission Impossible for its 1st season playing team leader Dan Briggs but left after season 1 due to having to work on the Jewish Sabbath. He was replaced with Peter Graves as Jim Phelps in Season 2.
Babylon 5 changed it's lead actor in it's second season. Michael O'Hare, who played the station's commander Jeffrey Sinclair, left and was replaced by Bruce Boxleitner, who played John Sheridan.
Calvin Katt so glad that happened.
I think hiring an older actress might be the better way to go? Do a time jump, so we're seeing an older Catwoman, and thus the change feels more natural storywise instead of a swap of actors.
no buddy
people will adapt to new face ..
time jump for no reason whatsoever is not required
thats potentially casting a lot more people instead of 1
Oh dear, whatever will we do? I don't think I can take it. This show had (no) so much potential.
you seem biased
Like other DC shows on the CW they concentrated too much on other things beside the source material superhero aspects that made these comics popular in the first place .
Spending most of the year up in Vancouver, away from home, shooting a 22/23 episode season, 14 to 16 hours a day, may not be all that appealing to most actors, nowadays.
anyone know what camera and lense john uses? its amazing!!
John, I don't know if you heard, but the JUSTICE LEAGUE IS FINALLY COMING TO HBO, Zack's talking WB an fans for the support.. I'm so happy .. wow wow..

@@tacray6247 Dude Zach showed us the year and where it will premiere. It's happening
did the pair of them miss the fact that they are going to recast in the LGBTQ community, so Blake Lively no matter how good you think of her as an actress would not be considered.
From what your saying also, it seems like they are more or less putting this on Ruby, which is wrong, there were way more things wrong with the show than Ruby as Batwomen.
Personally I think they will can this show anyway, they have Superman and Lois coming, just lead with that and forget about Batwomen, at least then we dont have to worry about any further harm being done to the bat brand.
They also chose the least interesting member of the Bat-Family to have a show on. I mean they could have done Batgirl, any of the Robins etc. Kate Kane is just a bland character in comics and the show.
@@luisz222 I think they probably didn't want to go with Batgirl as they - at least at one point - where talking about a film for her, and they have 2 of the robins in Titans. I don't mind her in the comics, but in general my interaction is in the batman comics, or at least recently the Detective Comics Batman line.
You should talk about Stargirl’s success since you’re on a DC roll
It's CW, all of their shows that start out have no recognizable names to start out. And I doubt any movie actor is gonna step away to deal with that kind of schedule without something in the budget getting cut.
Idc what ppl say. I think the show was improving n getting better.
Ruby Rose quit because of long hours. Thats why she quit and left the show
They need to get an actress that looks intimidating in the bat suit
And more bulky not skinny...
John Newton left Superboy after one season and Gerard Christopher was recast for the next 3 seasons 👌
May I remind you Mr Campea : Christopher Eccleston with the first season renaissance of Doctor Who.
the Snyder cut has been announced
"never gonna happen"
"WaTeRmElOn iSnT In tHe bAg"
The watermelon in the bag analogy was saying that while there is a cut, its not finished. Which is obviously true because they have to put 20-30 million more dollars into the film. While Campea has definitely said he doesn't see it happening, he has never been against the release of the cut, and the things he did say about it not being finished were all true.
I expected tht news to be addressed today.....y it isn’t 🤷🏻♂️😂
OMAR S u know y it isn’t. He gotta clean up everything he’s been saying for 3 years
The apples just turned into a watermelon😂
I like how you're trying to be disingenuous and twist what John was saying. Everything he said was correct, he (and everybody with any common sense) just didn't think Warner Bros. would pay to have the Snyder Cut finished. You can stop pretending to be vindicated now.
Babylon 5 us the only show I remember where the lead was gone after first season
That had a onscreen good transition between lead actors and a good enough relationship that the original could return for a few episodes. The story made it seem like it was always meant to be that way when Michael O'Hare left and was replaced by Bruce Boxleitner.
Batwoman was, by FAR, the worst television show I have ever watched. Absolute garbage
I watched it because nothing else was on. lol Not a good reason to watch a whole season, but it's the truth.
I refuse to watch anything by the CW except for the flash and even that is on thin ice now.
@@leonardfabian8942 facts thank you for your common sense lead statement
I bet you haven't heard of Scream Queens?
i really had high expectations for this show but noppppp, the storyline is horrible and Ruby she wasn't good,i am a huge fan kf Supergirl but they ruined that show too, season 5 is not even watchable,is pretty sad cause Chyler Leigh is an aweskma actress,Melissa Benoist is pretty talented but the writers ruined their characters on the show......
Thank you. You are the first review I have come across who did not put down Ruby Rose and call her a trashy actress. I have liked Ruby Rose in each thing I've seen. As you have said, she does not write the script. Maybe they should change the writers for season 2 in order to have better scripts and story. I wish Ruby Rose success in her future career. Thank you for an interesting and positive review.
A cool twist would be to see an Asian female play Batwoman!
Another show that lost its main lead is NYPD Blue when after one (or two?) season main lead, David Caruso, left to pursue a movie career. Series didn't suffer and imo even improved a lot.
Actually not true John Kelley was a great character the series got jimmy smiths and was able to continue and also had a secondary character with Dennis Franz to fall back on
Did John really miss the part where they said they were only going to hire an actress who had the same preferences as the character?
It's a shame Ruby Rose left. I really liked her in this role. Her chemistry with the other cast members was great.
I agree
First show that comes to mind, with similar circumstances, was back in the late 90's, "Men Behaving Badly". Both leads, Justine Bateman and Ron Eldard left the show after one season forcing producers to attempt to replace both characters in the second season return. Men Behaving Badly was cancelled shortly thereafter.
Ironically that example just highlights how bad writing is actually an issue.
The original UK version of the Men Behaving Badly had Harry Enfield as a lead in a first season that didn't quite work. He left and his character was replaced with a new guy played by Neil Morrissey.
Because they actually had good writers and found the right character dynamic the show ran for years afterwards and became a cult hit.
Batwoman doesn't have the writing talent to do the same.
I can’t wait to see what John says about THE SNYDER CUT.
Derrick love how he didn’t speak about it because he was one of the ones saying that it didn’t exist, he got proven wrong and now he ignored it😂😂😂😂
😂😂✊✊✊
I hope they find someone who really fits the role. She’s honestly a really good character in the comics! Just adapt that material with an actor who likes the character. Good luck CW! I’m a hopeless DC fan, so I’ll check out Season 2.
They're very insistent on recasting the role with another LGBT actress, which I think is a very close-minded way of approaching the situation.
Maybe Cara Delevingne she'd be good

Why not just cast the best person for the role? It’s not like Marvel Cast a real Racoon to play Rocket
Hello-
people in the biz are saying it was because of the back she suffered and not any behind the scenes negativity.
Did the studio want to reboot this show perhaps because of the online backlash?? Is the background shenanigans just an excuse to reboot it especially since there was no previous online behind-the-scenes problems.
The character is popular but that 1st season has too much online negativity so reboot with a different version of Batwoman and story, to win back fans and loyalty. Its BATWOMAN, it's always going to be a bid deal.
I hated the show, but honestly didn't transfer any of the hate to the actors. I think the writing was trash but you saw the spark of potential from each actor including Ruby
They should replace her with a 6' x 2' sheet of marine plywood (just in case there are water stunts)
Rachel Skarsten for Kate/Batwoman and Beth/Alice.
I agree on that she could pull it off, plus Alice and kate are supposed to be twins it would work
My other 2 pics are Bex Taylor Klaus, or Kate M O'Brian
Good Call
@@josuerios2845 hmm interesting
I don't blame Ruby Rose for the demise of the show. It was clearly poor script writing.
Bad acting?
the "writers" are not happy with her? ROFL
Hey (sorry I don't comment that much), the only precedent that comes to mind is the revival of Doctor Who (2005) with Christopher Eccleston as lead actor. Obviously the character of the Doctor is used to being recast, but everyone hoped for more than a season with this recognized actor.
That new lethal weapon show or was it Magyver? I can’t remember but the same thing happened.
Lethal weapon. The guy who played Mel Gibsons character was good and the only reason I watched it
She was getting a plethora of hate, ever since she got the role. It's no surprise that she's chosen to exit the series or that there's a possibility that the CW played a role in her departure. I never got through the first episode.
It's funny cause I had just read an article about whether or not Grant Gustin was going to sign for another season of Flash due to the fact that he couldn't do any other film or TV because of his schedule for the Flash. That was the first reason I'd heard that sounded plausible as to why Ruby Rose quit Batwoman. Despite the fact that being the lead on your own show is a steady income, there would be no way to grow her star if she wasn't being seen in more films.
Somehow Stephen Amell managed to make time while filming Arrow to do Ninja Turtles, not that the movie helped his career any. But I understand that being an issue for these actors, trying to manage their time and commitments with side projects.
I like the show, and I'm disappointed she's leaving. But things change and that's life
She was easily the highlight of the show
But wasn't she almost paralyzed in a stunt mishap?
And a PA was paralyzed. Seems like an OK reason to exit.
Aislin De’Ath would make an incredible batwoman, and she’s already expressed a lot of interest in the character!
CW doesn't have the budget to get a well-known actress into the role. That's not such a big deal for season 2, but it will be for seasons 4, 5, and so on. Her replacement will likely have a similar career trajectory as hers when she got this role.
I think the show improved post Crisis but would still put it toward the bottom of the Arrowverse. Hopefully this all works out for both the show and Ruby Rose’s future career prospects.
Well it was the very 1st season of Doctor Who when Christopher Eccleston left the show and been replaced by David Tennant because he wasn't really happy on the set ....John I heard that Ruby Rose quit because all the serious injuries that she sustained during the shooting of the season.... I really do think Blake Lively or Cara Delevingne would be a perfect cast choice to replace Ruby Rose as Kate Kane(Batwoman)... Btw the Lethal Weapon Series sort of did survive without Clayne Crawford as Riggs by replacing him with Sean William Scott character Wesley Cole but the series had to end because Damien Wayans wasn't happy and was not feeling too well so he couldn't carry on!!!!
No thanks on Cara Delevingne. She was abysmal in The Suicide Squad film
@@Kelz91 And good acting in many other film roles!!!
Dude, did you even botter to read WB/DC statment ? They specifically said they going to hire a LGBTQ person. Since when Blake Lively is gay ?
That’s seems discriminatory
When you act you’re pretending to be somebody your not. Just because The character is LGBTQ doesn’t mean the actress should be too. Did they hire a real Racoon to play Rocket? No they didn’t. This this the problem with Hollywood these days they hire for political reasons and not the best person for the job

In the mid-90s, the main actor for the much more popular series NYPD Blue left after one season when they were at the top of the ratings and it didn't work very well for him.
I’m probably in the minority but I actually quite enjoyed Rose in this role
In hindsight, I think there may’ve been some hints of this coming. Correct me if I’m wrong, Rose has not appear even once on any of the CW Batwoman Bat Chat show.
She also didn't go to comic con.
The closest thing is David Caruso and the first season of NYPD Blue, which he was clearly the lead. The show unloaded him and continued on for 11 more seasons.
John, why don’t you talk about the Stargirl show
That 1st episode is pretty good
I know right
I thought everybody on the show did a good job, considering the material. All the issues that I have with the show stem from the mostly terrible writing and complete lapses in logic with the plot and the characters.
As long as they keep the same writers around, no amount of recasting is going to make things go from meh to great.
Roseanne, Valerie, Sparticus, and Without a Trace are shows losing their main lead. I also think the studio would go with another actress who is a lesbian to be cast. My pick would be Bex Taylor Klaus
Sounds like Eccleston and Dr Who exit. Not as easily built in option for replacing the lead on Batgirl, though.
I love Doctor Who
Because of the timing, I think being forced out of production and being given time to reflect had an effect. If it hadn't been during the shutdown, this probably would have happened later towards the end of the summer before the production resumed. It's like when you go on summer vacation and really don't want to go back to school after having a few months off. They should just cancel the show though. It's weird having to get used to a new actress, the show isn't that good and there are plenty of other spin-offs to do.. eg. just bring over Titans and its Dick Grayson to do the "Batman" adjacent stories in Gotham since DC Universe is dying a slow death like they're doing with Stargirl.
David Caruso left NYPD Blue
here is my take what CW should do for the batwoman lead character, just my suggestion. Ask Ruby Rose to do 1 or 2 episodes for season 2 then retire her and pass the mantle to someone else. The reason is that me as an audience, my brain already registered Ruby Rose as THAT Batwoman so it will be WAY difficult for me to digest another recast actress in that role. Like what they did with Two and Half Men, they 'retired' Charlie Sheen and had Ashton Kutcher in the main role. Does it work? Depends on the writers and the directors at the end of the day. I will not sit well at all when there's another actor/actress playing the same role like in the Dark Knight where Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is the better actress in that Rachel role, replaced Katie Holmes.
Unless Netflix brings back Jessica Jones, Rachael Taylor who played Trish Walker (aka Hellcat) would be a good fit to play Batwoman. She has the athleticism and acting ability.
Doctor who (new series) eccelston left after 1 successful year. In his situation he didn't get along with producers but was kept quiet for years. With batwoman it sounds !time she was fired
DC TV shows and Movies writing needs to dramatically improve for real! It's starting to get ridiculous 😅
I dislike the Arroweverse but Titans and Doom Patrol are both solid.
