There is no comparison! DLSS is way better. The "PISSER" on the pro is just going to be too soft on a 60in 4K OLED. If you can even tell a difference at a normal viewing distance really from couch to TV.
They already did that for Rift Apart, based on some of the footage they had before. I'm sure they'll be doing a lot more comparisons after they actually get a Pro in-house
@@OutlawFarmersRC a comparison against FSR or XeSS would also have been valuable, PSSR may be more inline with those but its hard to tell from speculation

I say this as someone who has pre-ordered the Pro, and is generally in favour of it -- this is the most disappointing showing so far. I originally played this game in the 40fps mode, which was essentially the fidelity mode settings at 40fps (albeit at a lower resolution obviously). I thought it looked fantastic. I find it really hard to fathom that the Pro couldn't have taken this mode, and gotten it up to 60fps using PSSR, even keeping whatever base resolution it was using. Would have liked to have seen a comparison with this mode. It's quite disappointing that this Pro mode we get has lower graphical settings than the Fidelity Mode on PS5 (crowd density for example). Oliver seems a little too forgiving in this video.
I’ve also preordered the Pro and to me it’s Insomniac still doing something with the Pro, not just for this title but all its others AND still having to do Wolverine etc. Pretty sure if they would allocate more resources to making this look the best it can be then they would but how much can you put on an old title? JS. Still think everyone needs to relax and hopefully 🤞🏻 we see some other modes they have cooking.
@@fenixa2z936 I guess I just expected more from one of Sony’s premier studios. If I was gonna jump back into this game a second time on the Pro, I actually feel like I’d be getting a lesser experience considering certain graphical settings are lower than the old fidelity mode, just for a boost from 40fps to 60fps.
Same...I pre ordered mine too and tbh the advertisement for the Pro so far's been Very unconvincing lol. Hoping to see a bigger difference once I get my hands on it in November.
You can also unlock the fps and get a even higher fps than base PS5. I'm interested to know how the fidelity mode will run on PS5 Pro with a unlocked fps compared to the PS5 Pro Enhanced mode with fps unlocked.
How do you know? They didn’t show in this video how fidelity mode runs on Pro… On standard PS5 already runs between 40~55fps, so you can expect higher performance on that mode without a patch
@@Z3t487 I get what you're saying, but if we really get down to brass tacks, 60 fps performance mode on PS5 is still more visually impressive than anything PS4 Pro can muster. We got it good, so just be grateful.... or go PC🤷🏽♂️
@@Z3t487that is definitely the biggest difference, however Sony games are the worst in that aspect too, because they already had really competent 60fps modes and many games also have the 40fps mode too. Fidelity-like* mode. This sure as hell looks more like the quality mode than it does the performance mode. It isn't either of them, but the amount of detail is pretty comparable to quality, at a lowered image stability/settings, but it doesn't look ANYTHING like the performance mode
@@TheRealBOBlibob It's free for the copy of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart if you already own it. It's a free mode. To use DLSS it also cost the price of a graphics card which can use DLSS. Can't use DLSS if you don't buy a graphics card which can do it.
I'd say it's 'softer', rather than blurry. The Performance mode on base PS5 is oversharpened, and gives it a sort of unnatural and grainy look. If you've ever edited photos or anything, you know that being sharper is not inherently better. That said, PSSR is still clearly not a match for native 4k on PS5 Fidelity mode, so in this game at least, PS5 Pro is not delivering on the promise of PS5 Quality visuals, but at 60fps. Which really just further proves how insane the $700 asking price is for the machine.
That sharpening on base PS5 really isn’t helping PS5 Pro’s case. Can’t fault Insomniac for adding a bit of sharpening, but it makes it all the more difficult for PS5 Pro to prove its worth, with that sharpening removed in the PSSR mode. You’re improving image stability but sacrificing perceived detail (atleast, that’s how the average consumer will see it). That’s a hard sell.
Requiring 3x or 4x zoom to notice the sometimes quite subtle differences really isn't selling this to me at all. I'm not convinced I will notice a meaningful difference when sat on the couch playing without binoculars.
I REALLY don't want to defend the necessity of this mid-gen upgrade, but can we PLEASE not forget that the zoom DF applies is often there because people watch DF videos on phones and because UA-cam compression would make some very noticeable details unrecognizable?
If you don't run 3x or 4x zoom in a youtube video the compression will kill the detail. On your screen you notice these things. It's like you people were born yesterday I swear.
Sell your OG PS5 to go towards the Pro and sell your Pro to go towards the PS6 and you'll be spending about $800 and ending up in the same place anyway.
It sucks that in this game as well as last of us part 2, the pro-performance mode is just a PSSR upscaled base performance mode. I wish we got similar settings to the fidelity mode like crowd density.
@@eggy6857 Yeah I think that's the only real plus point of the Pro. But most games do offer 60 fps in a 120hz container modes on PS5 while maintaining good image quality, so in most games you're not getting a jump of 30 to 60 or higher FPS except in fidelity modes. So it's still kind of meh. Personally I care far less about framerate increases over 60 FPS than I do about them over 30. On PC I think framerates over 60 matter more because of mouse input, on console I don't really care much about 60 vs. 120.
@@eggy6857 They have the same framerate..? There is literally minisclue differences between the PS5 performance RT mode and the PS5 Performance Pro Mode when viewed normally. Which is exactly why they zoom 3 times in the image so we can spot the small differences.

Mostly trolls. Anyone can see the difference. A lot of people don't think it's worth spending 200 bucks more on it though which is totally valid. A lot of these games will not be using the actual Quality Mode in Pro Mode. It will be only upscaled from specific resolutions or replace the FSR or other software upscaling of the 60fps Mode with PSSR. Some developers might go all out to get a more custom made mode for PS5 Pro though. There will be mixed results for sure.
Wow. So, if I'm a gamer who always picks Fidelity mode, then PS5 Pro doesn't make much sense for me to get...certainly NOT at its present price point, at least.
The argument for performance pro is certainly stronger than it was for performance or performance RT. If you're to ignore that argument on principle, yes, the pro isn't for you. But there's a much better chance people who usually pick fidelity would pick the performance pro mode than any other mode
The difference is bigger in third party titles cause Sony exclusives are already looking phenomenal on the base PS5 and their pro upgrade isn't that big
These are the sort of videos I need. I usually play fidelity at 40 and I am afraid the pro modes will just use the performance mode settings at a higher resolution. And that's not great. Give me an unlocked fidelity mode.

That's the biggest issue with ai enhanced upscaling. No matter how good the program gets at restoring detail, it's never going to look as good as a native 4k image rendering each pixel itself.
@@robertlawrence9000 The Pro also has enhancements in hardware power in general not just some additions to make PSSR possible, i want to see the Pro running Spiderman 2 at unlocked fps in fidelity mode and i want to see the difference there. @@robertlawrence9000 It is expensive already though. The whole point of the PS5 Pro reveal video was that PS5 owners are having to choose between fidelity and performance and the PS5 Pro would make that choice go away, but that's not the case, because the PS5 Pro version isn't a 60fps version of the old fidelity mode.
Fidelity mode runs at 1800p - 2160p 30fps with the best possible graphic settings on the Ps5. Why not make the Pro run it at 1440p with the same graphic settings, upscale it to 4k using PSSR and get better fps? That's what I was expecting. Not this half-assed performance pro mode.
Some scenes, the pro looks SLIGHTLY better, others the base model looks SLIGHTLY better. Both scenarios are when zooming in 3 or 4x and on a relatively static scene. When in motion and in normal zoomed out play, there will be ZERO visible difference. Not a single person on the planet will be able to see any difference at all (those who say they do are either in denial or having a placebo effect). In UK this should have been £50, maybe £75 more than current digital edition.
It’s just telling that the only way DF is able to point out the differences between PS5 and PS5 Pro is by zooming into background details. There’s just nothing here that justifies $700. You would need a 90-110 inch 4K tv just to spot the additional foliage detail. Theres no jump in overall quality here like there was when the PS4 pro was released.
PS4 Pro justified itself by 4k HDR TVs common by late 2016 so releasing a newer console with 4k output and HDR was a good idea, the PS5 Pro only justifies itself to DF who will zoom in 400% and try to tell you it's important.
@@DriveCancelDCyup, mainstream adoption of 4K and HDR were the drivers for ps4 pro - there is no tv tech driver to justify this mid gen refresh. That and the base ps4 and Xbox were severely underpowered to begin the gen, which isn’t the case this time around.
Yea hard pass on the pro, I play on the ps portal sometimes and that smaller screen isn’t going to make a difference on going to the pro from the regular ps5. Also when I play games nowadays, I’m on the move and not necessarily sitting there looking at the graphics or how sharper a detail is.

This is ridiculous! Why isn''t there a PSSR Fidelity mode? Fidelity mode in lots of PS5 games doesn't just offer higher resolution, it has improved graphical settings (like the crowd density in this case), so who the heck wants to buy the Pro just to play in lower quality Performance mode again!? Isn't the whole point of an AI upscaler is to render the image at a lower base resolution, but make an image look cleaner or at least comparable to native res? Then why is everyone bringing up the "it has the same CPU" argument? At a lower base resolution the CPU should have the performance headroom to bring up the framerate to 60 FPS... Keep in mind that the OG PS5 can run this game at 40FPS in Fidelity mode without any issue! I'm just so freaking confused at what Sony is trying to sell here. It's already an extremely hard sell for this price + no disc drive, but the fact that we are not even getting an actual Fidelity mode at 60FPS (PSSR or not), is straight up disrespectful and mind-boggling. This is not what consumers want at all, so to the 5 people who buy the Pro - good luck.
I can’t decide which is more depressing, the fact that the Pro can’t run fidelity mode at 60fps or that we are still forced to using the same game to showcase this generation’s capabilities, 5 years after launch. Or maybe 4, it’s been a minute.
Gotta say very disappointed with this one and what insomniac is doing for their games in general for pro. So the whole point of the pro was to get the best of both worlds fidelity mode at 60fps uncompromised however thats not what we're getting what we're really getting is the same performance mode with better image quality meaning we're loosing the extra visual fidelity from the fidelity mode like extra particle effects and density for example and im really surprised no one is talking about that like heres a better idea why not give us the fidelity mode and just reduce the internal resolution if you have to to hit 60 and have PSSR clean it up to give us the extra sharpness in resolution
Then pick the Fidelity mode on PS5 Pro. And also unlock the fps. Should look and run good. Will it hit 120fps though? Not sure. The PS5 Pro Enhanced mode should.
Not really, people have been moving to PCs for graphics reasons for a while now. Sony wouldn't release a Pro this generation if there was no value in it.
There is litteraly 0 value to the Pro beside playing Rebirth at 60 fps with a decent image quality this time Rift Apart RT Performance mode looks already stunning even on a 4K display
@@eggy6857 softening to the point of detail loss isnt a fix though. Also, how about the detail missing at 9:28? Or is that not supposed to be there either? 😂
3x zoom to demonstrate the difference on UA-cam due to its video compression algorithm, but the difference should be noticable when side by side in front of a tv... Apart from that, yes, we're still pretty fine with the base console
How many times does DF have to reiterate, they do this in part because the majority of their views are on mobile. Seeing the differences at native resolution on a compressed YT video is also much more difficult and the point of their vids is to highlight the differences for ease of viewing.
I think it's crazy that the pro mode runs with the reductions to crowd density and other feature details in the same way as the performance mode. I hadn't realised that the pro was purely about image quality. I knew that was a big part of it, but it's mad that the quality modes on the standard ps5 will still be superior in some respects (I realise this is subjective but I rate graphical detail and flare over image quality generally). The Pro console should really look the best in all respects. I know it's giving us the 60fps and I like a smooth game as much as anyone but this is a bit of a bummer.
What I'm shocked about is the lack of any of the PC-exclusive ray tracing features. No RT shadows, no RTAO, same reflection resolution and detail as base PS5. I expected to see some of these enhancements in the PS5 Pro version of this game, even if it required a 30fps mode. So much for the PS5 Pro somehow matching a 4070.
It depends on the game. The whole idea of the Pro is to use AI upscaling. Some games will make use of a more defined feature set for their Pro Mode while others will just replace the software upscaling used in the Performance Mode with PSSR. The replacement of the Performance Mode upscaling with PSSR is what looks like they used here with mixed results. As Sony improves on PSSR over time, they can implement it and may see better results on past games possibly.

It seemed like a pretty small difference overall to me, but the removal of that sharpening filter was a big boost for me. So it seemed like an improvement to me. Not that I'm investing in a PS5 Pro.
Every time I watch one of these videos I am more and more sure about not buying the PRO. especially for $780. Furthermore, I’ll probably get a PS6… which will inevitably be better than the PS5 PRO… but I genuinely don’t see how they will get me to buy a PS7 if these are the difference we are currently talking about and these differences shrink more with every platform. Ps. The PRO clearly isn’t selling well. EVERY single journalist said “it’s a niche device meant for a smaller audience but inevitably it will sell out just because of the limited units”. Here we are weeks later with it in stock at literally every retailer.
PSSR have computing cost, and they probably (but im not sure) dont have npu/ai cores (something like tensor cores in rtx gpus) so gpu have to compute this things. And ps5 pro gpu isn't 2x faster than base ps5 gpu, so they cant just double fidelity mode performance.

@Rudolph300 you have to admit, there is something fishy going on. This channel is built on performance comparisons but when they get their hands on the PS5 pro, they intentionally avoid doing any performance comparisons for any of the games they test. hmm
Yeah it varies. I notice some of the details are overly soft on the Pro mode in certain flat surfaces but take out a lot of the fizzle and shimmering of fine detail of the software upscaling. I think it's going to depend on the game and how they implement the use of Pro mode. Many will probably just use the Performance Mode and replace the upscaling with PSSR while others will make truly custom settings for a Pro Mode. Also over time as Sony improves PSSR, they will patch and make it better.
It's artificial artifacting sharpness. If you actually prefer that look (you're insane btw) then you can just go to your TV settings and max out the sharpness there to add this crap to every game.
It’s actually worse than that! Fidelity mode on a regular PS5 can actually run at 40FPS! If you have a VRR display you can run it at that frame rate. So the pro isn’t even strong enough to get it from 40FPS to 60FPS!
It's funny, it sounds like a commercial, but instead of trying to sell me the new one, he tells me to keep the old one. You know what's funnier? He says that the new version is just a revision with minor improvements and more expensive, or that my normal PS5 is the defective version and they lied to me about the power.
I really hope there is a Fidelity Pro mode and that 40FPS modes will have higher resolutions. I also believe that third Party studios are gonna benefit alot more from PRO than first party devs.
This is laughably not that much better. It doesn’t give fidelity-like visuals at 60fps. That would actually be worth the extra 300 dollars to me. But it fails to do that.
The question is - will this game change your life? Will you remember it on your deathbed? Stellar Blade... and that is coming to PC anyway (super excited for that game btw). He described it as it was yesterday, waiting for the sunset to go down, and he said it was a journey he will never forget. From an artistic value, only thing that helps is 60 fps, for the gameplay immersion. But who cares if the game runs at 1080p or 4K? I am getting old and my vision won't stay perfect, I have a 1440p ultrawide yet I play on my small cheap OLED I bought from Aliexpress, and I do not give a shit about graphical fidelity, as long as the games are like they are intended. Silent Hill 3 looks incredible even at native res on PCSX2 in software mode and add a 60 fps cheat, it is actually mindblowing. I almost got into tech and programming games, but after like 2012, so many games started to look the same, and yeah we all know games are not for made by art nerds like John and Richard anymore, they are made by businessmen wanting to sell their product to masses, and you cannot please everyone if you wanna make art. All this greatly affects the gameplay. Everything has to be zoomed in three or four times to see the difference. So without zooming, the human eye cannot see the difference. This means that the base model is enough for me.
This vid is for phones you plank. On my TV that zoomed in 3x is actually zoomed out about 3x. Is your monitor the size of a phone screen? They do the zoom to give you an indication of what it would look like normally on a 21inch monitor, I have a 60 inch 4k screen TV, it's all zoomed in about 10x compared to this. Engage your brain just for a second before typing words. Highly recommend it
Let's pretend there is no 40fps fidelity mode on base ps5.
Yeah, what happens to those modes? Can they unlock the framerate and then use VRR to cover?
I'd really liked to have seen additional comparsions vs PC too, PSSR vs DLSS for example. Oh well hopefully in the future.

I tend to agree judging by this UA-cam video. Ps5 Pro image looks pretty soft in places. Not the best advert for the hardware at all.
Hopefully pro will be able to pull the frame rates up on fidelity with vrr to consistently be at least within the vrr range for ps5
Wait, the Pro mode looks blurry. This does not look like an upgrade....
It only looks "blurry" when compared to the original because it had pretty heavy sharpening applied. This is addressed in the video

Isn't the whole point of an AI upscaler is to render the image at a lower base resolution, but make an image look cleaner or at least comparable to native res? Keep in mind that the OG PS5 can run this game at 40FPS in Fidelity mode without any issue! I'm just so freaking confused at what Sony is trying to sell here. Is it just me or did anyone else immediately cancel their pre-order for the Pro after watching this 😂
lol
I literally just canceled my pre order.
@@visas_marr well no. Because I'm not stupid. This is one game. Plenty of these ps5 pro showcases have looked way better on pro and I don't make decisions based on a single video 🙄 Main problem with this game is already looked beyond great. But who honestly is playing this game with an appreciation for how much breakup there is in background confetti and how shadows in grass are resolved? Must be a tiny proportion who enjoy games for those things.
And just like PS4 Pro only had a tiny proportion (1 in 10) so will the PS5 Pro. This isn’t made for the everyday consumer, it is made for that tiny proportion.
It's funny how this game has framerate unlocked mode, but DF is not doing a performance comparison, which would be more interesting to most people.
This just feels like an ad for Playstation
Digital foundry been showing their bias lately
that's because they are an Ad, almost every tech channel does this, unless it's Gamers Nexus, DF is behaving like a Access Media behaves these days.
How is this in an ad? They pointed that the original ps5 looks better in many ways, such as less blurry ray tracing reflections. Did you even watch the video ? He literally said “there’s still a good amount of room for improvement on the pro” (time stamp: 6:17).
@Rudolph300 you have to admit, there is something fishy going on. This channel is built on performance comparisons but when they get their hands on the PS5 pro, they intentionally avoid doing any performance comparisons for any of the games they test. hmm
@@lucyfer22 ETA Prime should be added to this list
the base ps5 rt performance mode is literally sharper than the ps5 pro's and its clear as day.. what?
So no Pro 60fps Fidelity mode? It can't push the game from 30 to 60fps in this mode? Thank God I have this game on PC!!
It’s actually worse than that! Fidelity mode on a regular PS5 can actually run at 40FPS! If you have a VRR display you can run it at that frame rate. So the pro isn’t even strong enough to get it from 40FPS to 60FPS!
The difference is negligible.
It's funny, it sounds like a commercial, but instead of trying to sell me the new one, he tells me to keep the old one. You know what's funnier? He says that the new version is just a revision with minor improvements and more expensive, or that my normal PS5 is the defective version and they lied to me about the power.
I’m honestly struggling to see any notable differences…
I really hope there is a Fidelity Pro mode and that 40FPS modes will have higher resolutions. I also believe that third Party studios are gonna benefit alot more from PRO than first party devs.
This is laughably not that much better. It doesn’t give fidelity-like visuals at 60fps. That would actually be worth the extra 300 dollars to me. But it fails to do that.
This feels more like a graphical patch vs a new $1000 system.
The question is - will this game change your life? Will you remember it on your deathbed? I remember John saying how Ico and Silent Hill 2 came out the same day in 2001, I was 2 years old yet PS2 had such variety of high quality games, what does PS5 have? Imagine Pajitnov not playing with pentaminos, but wanting to sell a product, we would probably get a completely different game than Tetris.
Played it once . Not gonna play a game again and again everytime they introduce subtle graphical improvements.
Ok?
GTA6 running at 4k or 8k at 120hz should be all the reason you need to buy a Pro!

DF is a better job on selling the ps5 pro than SONY themselves.
Looks the same definitely not worth $750 for this…
This is fine and all -- but Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is an older game now, and not worth re-visiting just for the sharper image. Sony timed the PS5 Pro poorly, and should have released it with a new game that shows off it's features.
to be fair, PS5 released almost 4 years ago, and it feels like it doesnt exist. There hasnt been a ground breaking exclusive yet on it.

Base PS5 has sharpening pass on both modes, pro doesnt...
You’re not wrong!
If your eye is trained to believe 'sharper = better', then I can see how you think that. The gluttony of people who overuse sharpening on PC games and visual mods and whatnot is testament to this. But I'd also argue such people have a poor eye for good, coherent visuals in the first place.

Thats how i felt too, granted not for everything(confetti). The scene at 9:30 looks like a flat out downgrade.
@@ArchieBunker11overall definitely an improvement across the board with framerate in mind, however it's clear this is a title insomniac didn't really want to spend ages on optimizing for pro. Realistically insomniac have now very much moved on from Rift Apart and so has the PS5 player base. Insomniac likely spent a lot more time implementing improvements to Spiderman as that crosses 3 games and is far more popular. The results here are indicative of that.
@@upon-fe2720 I disagree about it being an overall improvement, everywhere I thought it won was 300% zoom, and slowed down. whereas the areas i thought it lost was really soft textures, and flat out missing detail. The ps4 pro, and one X didn’t have any instances of this vs their base counterparts.
As for the insomniac point, i’d probably argue that Sony should have avoided their content as comparisons due to their in house upscaling that isnt terrible. But saying they essentially half assed it as a Sony first party studio is silly. Imo at least.

PS5 pro is not PS6. You don't have to upgrade to PS5 pro. You can stay on your PS5. Games will run on it just as they already do.

It's nice to see Consoles finally getting some form of AI upscaling instead of the inferior FSR method that's currently available. DLSS is the goat, so maybe PSSR will match it one day. I imagine RDNA4 for AMD will introduce FSR with AI similar to this rebranded "PSSR", but I also hope they introduce a feature similar to Ray Reconstruction because it really cleans up ray tracing nicely.
Funny thing is, sometimes so called advanced graphic options make the image way more blurrier or uglier 😄 I think there should be a "creator intented" graphics mode

All this greatly affects the gameplay. Everything has to be zoomed in three or four times to see the difference. So without zooming, the human eye cannot see the difference. This means that the base model is enough for me.
