Went to advanced screening. I’m surprised he didn’t mention the run time. It felt 15 minutes too long. It was good, but one particular story arc didn’t land. Villian was good and definitely a Rocket story. But some moments of being forced heartfelt moments. Drax and Mantis are great though.

This film very much got me excited for James Gunns DC universe. Partly being because I'm not a DC fan(not that i hate it but ive never been invested in DC as a whole) and i havent really enjoyed many of the DC movies within the last 10 years. So yes I get that many people are mad at Gunn for axing so many things but as someone who wasnt a fan of what was being made, I'm ecstatic!!

I think we will still get some stinkers this year with Marvel, with all these projects coming out with them being the last Marvel movies under the bob chapek run at Disney, we will probably see an up and quality next year with Bob Iger coming back and going for quality over quantity

I just don't get why people don't like the shows. I loved them. After Endgame, I was getting Marvel fatigue and was getting sick of the Marvel formula. The TV shows had a variety of flaws, including giant plot holes created by the pandemic, but they were all different. They were all different from the movies, and all different from each other. So even the ones with serious flaws were a breath of fresh air. In fact some of the phase 4 movies were disappointing because they went back to the regular formula after giving us all that uniqueness in the shows. Killmonger is the greatest MCU villain because not only did he have a legitimate and worthy goal, he forced the hero to change for the better.
*Spoilers* This was a solid movie, however there were some issues I had. Drax got shot twice and I the next scene he's fine, in this last movie of the trilogy they made Rocket a super genius I would've liked to have seen that in the other appearances, Warlock was forgettable, I didn't have an issue with the main villain to much he's better than most of the B or C level villains we seen, small thing but the grunting Gamora and Nebula did was dumb, I wish the team took time to talk with Rocket about his past after seeing the video of the High Evolutionary experimenting on him, I wish there was more back story with the High Evolutionary to understand where he comes from and why he does what he does. This is more of a question I have but it said at the ending credits that Star Lord will return, so does that mean the guardians movies are over?
I get the gripes, but we absolutely didn't need more from the villain. He was perfect for what he was. We don't need to understand or sympathize with each villain. The world is full of cruel people who hurt people and animals for seemingly no real reason.
@@MightiestArm Isn't it kind of self-explanatory? And with the Rocket being a super genius thing, wasn't his intelligence the whole reason the High Evolutionary was after him?

It’s a movie lol, they can literally write the events to play out however they want haha. Hell they could’ve written it to where Peter dodged all the debris and floated back on his own and didn’t need to be saved. Or they could’ve written it to where he didn’t drop his Zune to begin with. There’s a million other choices they could’ve made. What are you talking about lol?
I agree with the Adam Warlock comment, it felt like James Gunn set up something then got fired, then rehired and had to change the plan, while still having to have Adam Warlock introduced.
Movies critics can’t decide what they want. They criticise the MCU for being too silly but when they make a serious movie. It’s criticised for being too dark
I may see this just because it’s guardians of the galaxy the best characters in the mcu and James Gunn always delivers but after that I’m pretty much down with the mcu unless there’s a huge leap in quality which I don’t see happening
Even though they didnt need it overall, and was only really added to the weight of the stakes for rocket, plus it is only one of my 2 criticisms with this movie: the addition of the rescued children (My gripe would be i hope marvel dont start making this a reccuring plot device) but also this is how it is done right, compared to ragnarok. And the end fight scene wasnt deminished by them rising up against him. That was still the heros job. My second, would be the motivation behind the high evolutionary. He wanted rocket for his ability to be intellectual and further perfect life However it is exactly what the soverign was doing. And it is estimated he is there maker. So arnt the soverign already seen as a perfect race of intellect and peace within the galaxy? And if so... why was the high evolutionary still trying after actually suceeding with them.. Also how did he succeed there but later regress into animal mutation and body mod horror... 🤔 Plus the soverign created the warlock. Further proving they are a creation with the ability to further perfect creation as was the evolutionaries true potential ... Makes little sense when logic is involved.
A further point: To clean up the narrative: alternative take, the high evolutionary (in my version) is not seeking rocket for his brains or intellect. But rather simple revenge. Rocket absolutely destroyed his face. He is grotesque now, shamed and beaten. (The high evolutionary created the sovereign - the perfect race. Upon completing his life goal and realising his achievement he regresses into both lunacy and hatred further, now using all his time and recorces to hunt rocket since his incarnation in chap 1 After finding out the sovereign kept information from him about the guardians, and have there own plan in anger the evolutionary releases Warlock from the cacoon early and sets him about a violent rampage wich in turn destroys his own planet and people. Killing his mother in the process and then being taken by the evolutionary to hunt the guardians and bring him rocket racoon. (Baring in mind the evolutionary just wiped out the entire soverign with Warlock- his perfect creation destroyed by his creations perfect creation) Events play out as they do mosty in the film by the guardians side (but this small narrative change and explanation cleans up the contradicting aspects of the movie. Adds stakes to the films naturally, shows that the evolutionary is no longer sane in his mission of godly endeavour but rather more demonic side of religion Now spicing animals trying to recreate the intellect of rocket and the vilionce of his potential (enter body mod Throughout the movie morality would force Warlock to the guardians side and the end would be similar to what we got but more inclusion from Adam and him also helping the final battle Using this slight narritive change just removes all the bad writing elements and contradictions that where actually left in the movie and it would also fix Warlock from a man baby to a powerful cosmic being being influenced by dark nature's when he is not yet wiser The guardians journeys are all still the same And it actually gives more depth and detail to the evolutionary and plays on the notion of mental capacity when someone so intent on achieving finally does then crashes and burns in the process (ie. Tyson fury) Idk 🤷♂️ make sense?
I was expecting some deaths of main characters. The post and mid credit scenes were pointless. Good soundtrack. It was a good film. It is dark. Watched it this afternoon.
Considering everything since No Way Home has been poor (at best) it wasn't really hard. This film could be mediocre, and that would still be a step up.

Only middle-aged, overgrown children who have their heads tucked far up they arses think James Gunn is anything but the B-filmmaking hack that he is.

Was a fun movie, very sad also, the costumes of the characters were ridiculous and funny in some scenes but it adds to the cheesy nature of a Guardians movie for me, ultimately a great time at the theatre :)
I absolutely loved GotG 3! It's my favorite of the 3, hands down. I agree Adam Warlock was underused and compared to the comics, misrepresented BIG time. But it was cool to see him in live action. My thing is a lot of people are saying Marvel is back and this flick definitely gives me hope that Phase 5 will continue to improve BUT... I have a feeling The Marvels is going to be a letdown. GotG 3 proves that Great writing is IMPERATIVE. This assembly line method of churning out quantity have severely impacted the quality.
I don’t see how anyone can think that this final movie of the series, and Gunn’s last, will somehow breathe new life into the MCU. No matter how good it is.

As for comic villains, as rushed and brief as some of his scenes are, the character Gor and the performance by Bale was literally the only reason to see Thor Trash and Blunder.
I loved all 3 movies ranked for me its 3,1,2
Haha. I was so bored with this movie. It's my least favorite of the 3 movies.
2 - 1 - 3
Same
The thing that confused me is that isnt this Gamora the Gamora from the first Avengers? 2012 I think? Why would Quill keep asking if she remembered when she's not lived that life? She's from the past? Weren't sure if it was an emotion thing but I didnt get it
Gamora wasn't in the Avengers. GotG wasn't even out or made in 2012.
@@Detroit_Dawg Sorry I meant as in the Thanos that was around in the time period of battle of New York that went into the future/present day to fight in endgame. That time period gamora
John is so wrong about guardians 2….
He’s wrong about the flash too
Went to advanced screening. I’m surprised he didn’t mention the run time. It felt 15 minutes too long. It was good, but one particular story arc didn’t land. Villian was good and definitely a Rocket story. But some moments of being forced heartfelt moments. Drax and Mantis are great though.
I loved the movie!
I even have to disagree with John in that I don’t consider Adam Warlock a weakness at all. He was a tertiary character but I loved him when he was on screen.
AlsoX High Evolutionary was perfect for what they needed and thankfully gave him enough screen time to hate him. Better than Ronan for sure but I even think better than Ego.
EASILY best Guardians movie. I am happy that part one introduced them to us... but it had MASSIVE plot holes.
I'm really looking forward to gotg vol 3. I really hope that feige takes what works here moving forward. Marvel really is at its best when its character focused.
I do love guardians of the Galaxy, volume three
Exceptions to the villains being shortchanged in superhero films would include Dark Knight, Infinity War, Batman Returns, and X-Men 2
I think we will still get some stinkers this year with Marvel, with all these projects coming out with them being the last Marvel movies under the bob chapek run at Disney, we will probably see an up and quality next year with Bob Iger coming back and going for quality over quantity
The marvels may be bad but secret invasion and Loki s2 will be peak for sure
Maybe HE wasn’t the “bEsT” villain but Chukwudi Iwuji is EASILY better actor than Michael B. Jordan. It’s not even close.
The most emotional MCU movie and one a true ending.
Opening bit of flash plus the horrendous CGI throughout automatically make that film worse than GOTG3. I still enjoyed Flash but GOTG3 is a lot better
I have not seen this movie, but I had no doubt James Gunn was going to deliver a satisfying conclusion to this film series. But what evidence suggests that this film is not going to be an outlier in the current Marvel trajectory?
The greatest villain the guardians ever had was TaserFace.
"IT'S METAPHORICAL"
This is proof that Marvel screwed up big time when they fired James Gunn
You mean rehired.
@@Chicken_Little_Syndrome fired then rehired for 1 last movie just for old times sake... If they hadn't fired him, he would be running the MCU cosmic universe and not DC... So yes, fired....
Seems like most of Gunn’s superhero movies have very charismatic protagonists & underwhelming/underdeveloped antagonists. Hopefully this trend doesn’t follow to the DCU
The High Evolutionary was a great villain in Guardians of The Galaxy 3.
Thank you for the review , and much appreciation for the non- spoilers! For me this movie is the most anticipated since infinity war.
I don't think you need a particularly good villain to have a great story. Case in point would be Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Winter Soldier was a phenomenal character, but he wasn't the true villain of the story.
alexander pierce and arnim zola are underrated villains
@@audaciousjones Pierce started out pretty good. But then devolved to a moustache twirler. It's frsutrating because he had a solid motive, he didn't have act all villainy. Disney's influences, I'm more than sure.
Yeah, Inception doesn't really have a villain. You still need a good conflict tho
True. For example, Logan is a masterpiece but i can't remember the names of the villains. Stryker Jr i supose....
I thought they did a great job of making you hate the villain. Its been awhile since I've seen a villain I've wanted to get John Snowed(punched for 5 minutes straight until they finally die)
Agreed most definitely.
*Spoilers*
This was a solid movie, however there were some issues I had.
@@lex_rodriguez I guess, but he was fast tracking evolution to create a perfect society. I was curious while watching the movie as to why
@@MightiestArm Isn't it kind of self-explanatory? And with the Rocket being a super genius thing, wasn't his intelligence the whole reason the High Evolutionary was after him?
We're in the middle of a Marvel fatigue. I resell toys at toy shows, and out of all my Marvel Toys and Pops, I only sold 2 in my last show. But I sold a ton of wrestler figs, transformers, and Nintendo related items.
I really want to see if but my mum is a vegan/animal lover so not sure the Rocket Racoon backstory will maybe unsettle my mum but I hope to see it this week
Guardians 3 is going to be the only MCU movie i watch this year and only because I loved the first 2 and I like James Gunn. I passed on Ant Man 3 because I just had no desire to see it even though I really liked the first two. I'm not watching the marvels either because I just don't care for Captain Marvel or ms marvel. Guardians 3 is a bet though.

But watch you watch it when secret wars rolls around and then you like it 😂 making this comment pointless
@@joshuagaray4330 Avengers Secret Wars isn't coming this year genius 🙄

I disagree with Adam Warlock take that they didn't need hom they needed him to save Peter no one else could do that.
Brilliant movie 8.5/10 maybe in my top 10 of all MCU
Give a 9
Movies critics can’t decide what they want. They criticise the MCU for being too silly but when they make a serious movie. It’s criticised for being too dark
Serious and dark are 2 different things.
I’m seeing it Friday night I’m looking forward to it!
I may see this just because it’s guardians of the galaxy the best characters in the mcu and James Gunn always delivers but after that I’m pretty much down with the mcu unless there’s a huge leap in quality which I don’t see happening
Watched it last night and I cried 4 times.
Even though they didnt need it overall, and was only really added to the weight of the stakes for rocket, plus it is only one of my 2 criticisms with this movie: the addition of the rescued children
(My gripe would be i hope marvel dont start making this a reccuring plot device)
but also this is how it is done right, compared to ragnarok. And the end fight scene wasnt deminished by them rising up against him. That was still the heros job.
My second, would be the motivation behind the high evolutionary.
He wanted rocket for his ability to be intellectual and further perfect life
However it is exactly what the soverign was doing. And it is estimated he is there maker.
So arnt the soverign already seen as a perfect race of intellect and peace within the galaxy? And if so... why was the high evolutionary still trying after actually suceeding with them..
Also how did he succeed there but later regress into animal mutation and body mod horror... 🤔
Plus the soverign created the warlock. Further proving they are a creation with the ability to further perfect creation as was the evolutionaries true potential ...
Makes little sense when logic is involved.
A further point:
To clean up the narrative: alternative take, the high evolutionary (in my version) is not seeking rocket for his brains or intellect. But rather simple revenge.
Rocket absolutely destroyed his face. He is grotesque now, shamed and beaten.
(The high evolutionary created the sovereign - the perfect race. Upon completing his life goal and realising his achievement he regresses into both lunacy and hatred further, now using all his time and recorces to hunt rocket since his incarnation in chap 1
After finding out the sovereign kept information from him about the guardians, and have there own plan in anger the evolutionary releases Warlock from the cacoon early and sets him about a violent rampage wich in turn destroys his own planet and people.
Killing his mother in the process and then being taken by the evolutionary to hunt the guardians and bring him rocket racoon.
(Baring in mind the evolutionary just wiped out the entire soverign with Warlock- his perfect creation destroyed by his creations perfect creation)
Events play out as they do mosty in the film by the guardians side (but this small narrative change and explanation cleans up the contradicting aspects of the movie. Adds stakes to the films naturally, shows that the evolutionary is no longer sane in his mission of godly endeavour but rather more demonic side of religion
Now spicing animals trying to recreate the intellect of rocket and the vilionce of his potential (enter body mod
Throughout the movie morality would force Warlock to the guardians side and the end would be similar to what we got but more inclusion from Adam and him also helping the final battle
Using this slight narritive change just removes all the bad writing elements and contradictions that where actually left in the movie and it would also fix Warlock from a man baby to a powerful cosmic being being influenced by dark nature's when he is not yet wiser
The guardians journeys are all still the same
And it actually gives more depth and detail to the evolutionary and plays on the notion of mental capacity when someone so intent on achieving finally does then crashes and burns in the process (ie. Tyson fury)
Idk 🤷♂️ make sense?
Just got home from seeing this, I was a wee bit worried at the beginning it was going to suck but it was really great roller coaster of emotions?
I was expecting some deaths of main characters. The post and mid credit scenes were pointless. Good soundtrack. It was a good film. It is dark. Watched it this afternoon.

It's good people!!! saw an advance screening and it was so great the best of this series and one of the best MCU movies ever!Everybody is funny everybody is turning it up a notch you can tell this is probably going to be the final time all of them are going to be playing these characters together and they went out with a bang definitely one of the must've of this year.

Is this Disney's / MCU first movie to drop an F bomb?
Yes donna
The fact that the marketing mentions the f-bomb is pathetic. Gunn's work is meant for juveniles and overgrown children. His dialogue sound like it was written by a thirteen year old. This film can't really be added into the conversation when it comes to the state of the MCU, all because of Gunn's departure. If the film does well or bad, it doesn't matter, Gunn is gone and (probably) won't be coming back. It's the projects after this that everyone should be focused on.

Was a fun movie, very sad also, the costumes of the characters were ridiculous and funny in some scenes but it adds to the cheesy nature of a Guardians movie for me, ultimately a great time at the theatre :)
The pictures on the wall in that family house on counter earth had me crying it was so good.
I saw it twice today in the Philippines 🇵🇭
Just saw it earlier at Mall of Asia's IMAX and it was packed and it was so fun yet emotional. Gonna watch it again in IMAX when I have time.
@이마크 Nice!!!!!
How could it be back if they were on a stink streak and the director in charge of this film ditched Disney/Marvel?
