@@1223optimus They would also lose a ton of money having to fix them for customers after their kids break them. Or they would have to sell them at super high costs to get around this and would take PR hits for it. I suppose anything is always possible, but I wouldn't count on it unless they really improve fabrication methods and reliability.
As a 3d printing/invention nerd, it looks like it's a car antenna motor with LED wire around it or that electrified paint that glows (EL Paint). The Car antenna connects to a wire on a motor in the hilt that pushes the saber out and back. The shaft is most likely two or three pieces of clear that slide along each other and are incredibly thin so you don't see where they overlap as it extends. All the force/weight is on the aluminum core antenna much like a car radio antenna from the 80s would be. So it's not that hard to actually build something quite similar. I think the real issue you have fundamentally is the lighting. Do you use projection lighting, or do you use LED EL wire/paint? I would bet they use projection lighting because it would be much more even and if you got the walls thin enough it would basically be like those toys that pop out when you swing them. So really, while cool, not that cool
Are any of the lightsabers on the market interactive yet? Similar to how you can us some of the wands at Universal Studios to interact with some of the attractions, I'm curious if there is way to use your lightsaber in an interactive way at Disneyland (e.g. battle a hologram, open a door, etc.)
No sadly but luckily for you and me they now have the Harry Potter magic caster wand you can buy on the flip side sadly Star Wars isn’t quite there yet so I’m glad Harry Potter and transformers are lol
I saw one in the galxy’s edge documentary on Disney+ I then put a retractable lightsaber on my Xmas list. I was disappointed to find it didn’t exist and took it off my list. Still scarred but it is now the thing I want most
It would be sick if they made one of these light sabers but a cross guard version like in Jedi survivor, it would make up for the bulk because in the game it’s a big heavy blade
Could use a car antenna type contraption wrapped in LEDs with a small motor in the hilt to retract. The blade exterior could be reflective soft balloon type material.
I know how they did the r&d for the lightsaber…it was a continuation of your story. Except one large goon gave the dude a haymaker, then puts his knee on his neck, while the corporate stooge with them bends down and said “well hello there, I just wanted to get your signature giving Disney all of your research, prototypes, and all data…and that you did this all of your own will for free.” The guy then had his arm pulled out from under him with a pen in hand, and had him sign it. Before the ink had even dried, the stooge nodded to the big goon and he twisted his knee to the right breaking the guys neck. Then all hard drives were taken and all personal accounts were deleted. With just a note left saying: “hello. I am tired of doing internet things. I am going to live in the forest from now on, please do not attempt to contact me. P.S. you should also visit Disneyland as much as possible in my honor and buy as many Disney products as possible.”
They most likely already have them up for sale but with the price being so high and only as a display prop and not an actual dueling or training instrument it most likely won't sell well. I have two prop sabers from a fan company called Park Sabers now called Ultra Sabers and their sabers are incredible. The stuff they have now most likely will have speakers for the lightsabers being swung and if the blade impacts something but the overall thing is that each one was made for durability
Hmm, at this point as small and bright as led are these should already be available, rather than a stiff rigid plastic the round part of the blade itself is probably made of some high reflective fabric with extension rods pushing it up and stretching it out as it extends. If I’m correct then that means that no they wouldn’t be able to hit with them as the fabric could tear or the extension rods could snap or the emitters could be damaged. But the extending is still very cool, I’m sure they will keep improving on it.
6:06 Actually, your comment about the bunny ears is wrong. They are supposed to be different. You're comparing the ANH version of the prop to the ESB/TFA version of the prop. The clocking on activation box was on the other side in ESB and that carried over to the TFA/TLJ prop as well, so technically they got that right. Sorry, I just have done way too much research on the graflex hilts.
Just as a note, the bunny ears on that new Disney retractable saber are pointing the correct way, the ears come out at the peak of the emitter slant, it just looks weird with the control box clamp position.
I think the reason they arnt selling this thing is probably because of tolerances and wear. I bet it can only do a very limited number of deployments and retractions before parts start to wear out.
Its not the engineering of the saber, it’s the material. It will not work with standard plastic, it’s been tried over and over. They need something that can bend but is durable…graphene perhaps?
The "ears" are not pointed the "wrong" way, per se. The standard configuration seem "Empire" on is the indeed with the clamp in the 9 o'clock position, (when looking into the emitter, with ears pointed up at 12 o'clock). The "A New Hope" version, however, is seen in multiple configurations, but is primarily seen with the clamp at the 1:30 position, as is the case here.
The look is great BUT from what I've heard the blades low rigidity (which is necessary to make that mechanism work) makes it visibly bend from moving it at anything above snail's pace.
Is there any solution to getting low-latency audio transmitted from a duel-friendly lightsaber to external speakers? Is attaching a wifi lapel microphone to the hilt a reasonable option?
That's a great question man, I have wondered that myself. But I think the delay would kill the effect. I love your furry UA-cam profile picture by the way lol.
@@FindingTheForce I think there’s something with transmitting just the sensor data to an external processor that generates the sounds and outputs to a speaker, but I don’t know the details.
Before watching how it works… my assumption would be that it’s just that the plastics ‘saber’ retracts much the way the toy old ways when you’d whip it to make it come out… except it retracts mechanically… that’s what I’d have guessed
How do you think they retract it? (I love talking to creators) like, a spring? What’s your guess? Or theory. I am speechless and have absolutely nothing to say about how they retract. Like in Star Wars, if they had toys for scenes, did they use CGI to erase a part of the lightsaber at a time and un- erased it from the bottom to top to make it look like it’s coming up? How the hell do they do this?
How much would I pay? Well, so: to make your own: 2x tape extendable measures, some batteries, a strip of LEDs, a motor, some other electrical wires and buttons and such, some sort of case for the handle (PVC or metal), and finally some paint and other bits 'n' bobs - I reckon I could make one (using all new parts) for $200, minus the money for the hours I'd charge a client for labour. If I got secondhand parts, I could probably get it down to $90 or so. N.B. I *am* a metalworker and woodworker though. I'd pay double that $90 (or just over) for an official Disney version then considering they're still working on it. This can't be the final desired result.
I say $500,- would be about a perfect price point. But I guess they will sell for much more unfortunately. If Disney plays their cards right, they will be a park only available purchase, so they can have a double win.
I feel like this is just a "new technology/prototype" thing, im pretty sure they'll soon release a more sturdy "dueling" version, i give it like... 3 years lmao
As a Sith Lord I've been following the progress of this Disney invention since it was discovered via patent application a few years ago. This laser sword is no match for a dark side blade.
3:15 And for good reason. The sequels ruin the world-building of Star Wars and every time they mention or include Rey it just solidifies the sequels more and more. We need to work harder to get rid of the Sequels.
This thing isn’t made for dueling. Not even for filming either. You can see in the hotel show that when Rey ignites it, she has to grab the dueling saber from the floor when Kylo Ren pushes her or something. I can’t remember the whole thing, saw it in a video.
I do alot of designing as a hobby and working on my own mechanisms, I'm currently designing a working webshooter, obv not real webs... atm. But my next project is to design a retractable lightsaber which I've just started designing
So the diameter is not changing when it collapses or expands then what is really happening? Is it a spiral type design that maintains the diameter but still can collapse and expand ?
With galaxies star cruiser no more I'm wondering if they'll continue to sell this lightsaber at Galaxy's Edge..???.? And if so how much will it go for.?.? And the Droid they had their that you could purchase will you be able to purchase it at Galaxy Edge?.?.?
How much would you Pay for this Retractable Lightsaber? 💰
How much would you pay?
To be realistic about $100.000 because that is cheaper then the grogu (baby yoda) robot and it is visible in galaxy's edge.
I’d pay $250 for that!
Definitely more expensive than the legacy/Hasbro ones. Besides the price increase with inflation, it may be a premium price for Disney. ....hoo boy.

Good point Mr. Graves, we have sabers for show, and others for play! 😆👍🏻
You hope they don't sell it??? Just don't buy it lol. Let the rest of us buy it.
@@roadcyclist1 dude there's a guy right now working on a dueling retractable saber right now, and it's most likely going to be cheaper than this one by half the price by the sounds of it. I'm just waiting on that one
@@mr.graves2867 Do you have a source on that? I am interested.
@Throw Acnt yeah, sure, ua-cam.com/users/shortsYn8SaWxO_mk?feature=share
This is the short that the guy made. So far, it looks promising.
China will steal the plans for this new lightsaber and have their version out at half the price Disney will charge! They'll call it the lightsword.😅
Wish this was something you could buy because this light sabre would definitely be worth the money, it looks and works almost like on screen.
It’ll make the hilts bigger and that will take away from the actual One to one replicas I’ll stick with the regular legacy and black series lightsabers
i,d would like to personally hold it and see it work before i consider buying a retractable lightsaber for my family.
it certainly looks like a lot of fun as long as it doesn't harm anyone like in the star wars movies. may the force be with you!
Disney confirmed in 2021 that will never be sold or usable by guests, so that answers that.
Well back in 2021 they weren't bleeding money like a stuck pig. Things change, and they know they would sell a butt loads of these.
I kinda now want to see how they would do Kylo's to have 3 retractable blades.
I’m called “Papa-One Kenobi” in my house.
Still scarred but it is now the thing I want most
8:10 They have the patent on it, no one else can make anything like this!
CHINA : *Hold my rice wine*
It would be sick if they made one of these light sabers but a cross guard version like in Jedi survivor, it would make up for the bulk because in the game it’s a big heavy blade
Bro it’s a string of leds lmao. Yoda be like “got this from Walmart you did”
SEARCH “RETRACTABLE LIGHT SABER”, it’s a Disney prototype
Where did you get your lightsaber wall mounts?
Hey bud, glad I saw your comment. I actually found them on eBay. Can’t remember the seller but I think they were only like 20 or $30 each. 👍🏻
Star Wars was absolutely mind blowing.......when I was 9 yrs old.
I love how you say “Josh Diiaaammaarrro”.
Love the shirt. Own it myself and it’s always a crowd favorite
This secret warehouse you mention…is this the same warehouse that I’d the last known resting place of the Ark of the Covenant?😉
This is gonna go off into myth. Just like the "hoverboard" from Back 2. Just gonna make my peace with it.
first time seeing one of ur videos and u had me at Obi Dad Kenobi!
Just subscribed you're awesome
Many thanks Nerd Ent!! 🙏🏻😃
The lightsabers in this video weren’t the only things getting turned on. 😂
Pretty old news. They showed it at the 2019 celebration and forbid people from taking photos and video. Pretty much just for show not actual “combat”
The bunny ears are literally not pointing the wrong direction.
I think you're mistaken, my friend. :P
I'm now following you on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. May the Force be with you.
It looks really cool
A saber staff/pike would be perfect for this
The look is great BUT from what I've heard the blades low rigidity (which is necessary to make that mechanism work) makes it visibly bend from moving it at anything above snail's pace.
The sound is from the loudspeakers.
5:19 its a f#""$ing plasma torch cmon!
6:35 yeah...lets change the prop no ones gonna know
How do you think they retract it?
This would make fan films and stuff a lot easier to film
This is the mouses house now!
I say $500,- would be about a perfect price point. But I guess they will sell for much more unfortunately. If Disney plays their cards right, they will be a park only available purchase, so they can have a double win.
It's probably just an air inflated tube with lights illuminating the fabric.
How did you hang the lightsabers on the wall?
I feel like this is just a "new technology/prototype" thing, im pretty sure they'll soon release a more sturdy "dueling" version, i give it like... 3 years lmao
Just like I said. A year later and fans have already put out a commercial product that not only extends but retracts as well
So much better than the old retractable one you had to push back in with your hand. Oh, and I would pay up to $5,000 for it.
ATF going to get their hand on this fast asf.. I can sense them already making up laws for them..
If you can dual with it then yes it's worth it for the money but it still looks cool
You will never find The Force in products...
That Light Saber is pretty sweet though ngl
As a Sith Lord I've been following the progress of this Disney invention since it was discovered via patent application a few years ago. This laser sword is no match for a dark side blade.
3:15 And for good reason. The sequels ruin the world-building of Star Wars and every time they mention or include Rey it just solidifies the sequels more and more.
We need to work harder to get rid of the Sequels.
The sound is probably coming from the saber and is picked up by the mic so it is heard as if it is just played from the speakers
This thing isn’t made for dueling. Not even for filming either. You can see in the hotel show that when Rey ignites it, she has to grab the dueling saber from the floor when Kylo Ren pushes her or something. I can’t remember the whole thing, saw it in a video.
Love the shirt PEW PEW
haha... Thank Paul!
I wait for the combat ready version :D It would worth a lot.
You are so respectful and fun! I wasn't even crazy about your topic. You are just so charismatic, knowledgable and funny! Thank you! Subbed
10 years from now "Florida man robs bank with real lightsaber & pet jarjar??"
Man I would love this saber so much
