Years ago, the Life Extension Foundation stated that combining astaxanthin with phospholipids increased the absorption of the astaxanthin by 8 times. So if thats true, theoretically the astaxanthin in krill oil would be much better absorbed than other astaxanthin, since the astaxanthin in the krill oil is already combined with phosoholipids. So i take astaxanthin with krill oil, for better absorption.
@Nel33147 Currently, I use the Double Wood brand of astaxanthin (12 mg), because it uses the AstaReal astaxanthin, which has a long-time reputation for being a good product. And I take it with 3,000 mg of krill oil (which contains Omega 3s in the phospholipid form), to increase absorption of the astaxanthin; due to the phospholipids in the krill oil. Krill oil also contains astaxanthin naturally, combined with the phospholipids.
I have been taking it for more than a year and my cognitive skills have returned back to when I was in my 30s and I am 53, at 50 I started having brain fog regularly
Yes, it has really helped my cognition too. After getting Long Covid especially, I was even having trouble speaking. While waiting for a dementia evaluation, I started taking astaxanthin for my blurry vision. I noticed the effect on my cognition and searched and found research showing it does help. One review article also mentioned research showing benefit from lutein, which I happened to be taking for vision (the journal article is Effects of Lutein and Astaxanthin Intake on the Improvement of Cognitive Functions among Healthy Adults: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials). Could be the dramatic effect was due to adding astaxanthin to lutein. I take 12 mg. of astaxanthin and 20 mg. of lutein. I’m 70 years old.
What about carotenoid competition? Large doses like this are more likely to exclude other carotenoids in the gut and result in deficiencies of lutein, for example. Probably good to discuss timing.
I like your videos because you cut through the long science jargon and show Exactly what type of products or dosages to take 👍🏻 Astaxanhtin I took now for 15 years it protected my skin

based on Brad Marshals blog, I think astaxanthin, gets to be used multiple times as an antioxidant because the molecular structure is just the right size to bridge the double lipoid membrane and allow electrons to flow across it. This is apposed to receiving it directly and changing. has similar effects on mitocondria.
Been taking asta for 10 years. Have followed the studies from time to time. Salmon being white flesh turning pink from astaxanthin is new info. Good info‼️
Regards exercise, since this accumulates in tissues over time, I don't think not taking it during exercise days will affect much given its already accumulated in tissues and will take time to leave the body. Also some salmon have extreme exercise performance swimming nonstop for very long periods of time.
I take 28 mg per day from Micro-Ingredients for the past 6 months. Their 12 mg tested at 14 + mg, many other brands had no astaxanthin- nice presentation!
As an ex-smoker, I am always worried about antioxidants and especially carotenoids because of the results of the ATBC study... Should ex-smokers also be careful with astaxanthin?
I've been taking Astaxanthin for several years, Haven't had eye macular improvements until I recently started on Glynac and Taurine. Have encountered analysis that suggests anything over 4mg dosages are mostly pissed out, albeit it has a decent half life. So I take a 12mg gel capsule only twice per week now.
I wonder how much astaxanthin is present in krill oil. I'd rather take astaxanthin that is naturally bio-available in its fat soluble (omega-3) state, rather than its isolated form. Wouldn't this be better?
When I looked at the krill oil for sale on Amazon, the amount of astaxanthin is tiny. Also krill oil is an expensive source of omega 3s, compared to fish oil. I take 12 mg. of astaxanthin, as compared to 600 mcg listed in one krill oil.
I take this with my Krill Oil.. Well it's combined.. It's micro ingredients Antarctic Krill Oil 2000mg and has 800mg astaxanthin in there... Been taking this for 6 MO now and works for me...
@DeSilver215 I have less headaches, I lowed my BP, can I have this over all better feeling in the body... I'm a army veteran who has shrapnel on one side of my body mainly in my butt and legs and I get a lot of inflammation at times, and for full disclosure I take other things too but I started with this and then added other things which helped it even further... I think the two supplement that I take, that just downright amaze me was rhodiola rosea, and mushroom max (both from doublewood supplements)..., when I added the dose two to my krill oil, they gave me just the right amount of energy in the morning with my cup of coffee, and noon I took the rhodiola... doing this has gave me a lot of mental Clarity even less headaches, an overall feeling of homeostasis is the best way I can put it.... Then I added magnesium glycinate at night.... Boom... that was like the perfect finish to the day and actually had gotten some really good sleep after taking it for about 2 weeks it kicked in full effect.... Good stuff for sure..... I also take a 40 Plus mens vitamin from new chapter, you know the fill in those dietary gaps while I transition my eating habits to keto / carnivore / paleo haven't decided yet what direction to really go in.... I also take a reasonably priced men's Probiotic, and just started taking Taurine (500mg), no side effects or differences yet, too soon to tell.... but I started taking the taurine because I was a heavy alcoholic for many years and was recommended to me to help kind of repair the liver and kidneys, but honestly if you're on a carnivore diet you get a ton of taurine anyway, so not sure if I'm going to continue taking it but time will tell....... but either way back to the krill oil with astaxanthin in it, I feel when I started the first taking it it did make an overall difference, and it's probably worth a try especially if you can get it in with your daily fish oil or krill oil like I do... Hope that helps.... 😎✌️
I think you are mistaking Mcg for Mg. All the brands I just looked up with 2000mg have 600mcg, not Mg. 600mcg = 0.6Mg. What exact name brand are you taking? The pill would physically need to be the size of 8oz cup!
Since astaxanthin has a long half life in the body, not sure it makes sense to cycle it. I get it that you want to maximize exercise benefits by not suppressing free radicals generated due to exercise, but won’t your body’s stored astaxanthin still be high even if you don’t consume it on workout days?
I actually began this video with 2024 study (and another 2024 in minute 15), but the quality of the studies matters more then the year. I don't show here all the studies behind the conclusions. I read 60+ on asta alone.
@Wellness Messiah, I saw another comment that mentioned that combining astaxanthin with phospholipids could potentially increase the absorption of the astaxanthin by 8 times. I've watched your video on EPA and DHA where you mentioned that krill oil was prone to oxidation. Any thoughts on the astaxanthin offsetting this oxidation? For those on a budget, could one get the EPA/DHA and astaxanthin benefits by just taking krill oil instead of buying fish oil and astaxanthin separately? I'm curious to know what you think.
Red/yellow skin is viewed as more attractive per studies (example: "Women Prefer Men With Yellow, Red Faces", National Geographic). The hypothesis to explain this is that it signals good health. I’m interested in how much of these positive effects from astaxanthin is due to it being a PPAR-Delta agonist. Other PPAR-Delta agonists include omega-3 and lions mane, both having substantial evidence for benefits both in old and young people, but also cardarine, which despite having benefits over many areas (exercise performance, triglycerides, etc) supercharged cancer growth and metastasis.
@ I couldn’t find much info on taurine and PPAR-Delta, but taurine is a great supplement and it is so cheap I’d reccomend everyone looking to improve their health take atleast a little, especially if your goal is better cardiovascular health. Molecules that help to remove senescent cells are best cycled by a heavy hit and then a long rest period. I suspect this would be a good strategy here since astaxanthin accumulates over time and we don't want permanent antioxidants in our body.

Could you clarify the claim the Vitamin E supplements increase mortality? Did the studies use Synthetic vitamin E usually derived from petroleum products or real vitamin E?
I tried asking him that already....because Tocotrienols are the most powerful form of vitamin E but most research done is with synthetic or Tocopherol which is inflammatory
Hi Rimon, Thanks for putting up such a well researched video. I'm sure you would also have many researched reasons why Asx3 or ZanthoSyn is best brand/type. I have 2.questions. 1.Are these derived from naturally occurring algae or synthesised from petrochemicals? And 2. What is Wthe type of oils it is encased with in, eg sunflower oil or vegetable oil or coconut oil?
The ingredients listed doesn't seem to include an oil but DI alpha tocopherol (lipid soluble form of vitamin E, which could mean there is some other lipid)
I have been taking astaxanthin for six months. A few weeks ago, I noticed that my HRV (Heart Rate Variability) had improved significantly-from 30-50 to 100-150. I believe this might be due to the astaxanthin. I switched to a supposedly stronger brand, from 8mg to 18mg, but it didn’t work. Now I’m back on the first one I used and am wondering if it’s the combination with vitamin E that makes the difference. Vitamin E is supposed to work synergistically with astaxanthin. However, the version of vitamin E in the tablet is incorrect for the brain -it’s tocopherol-so now I’ve ordered tocotrienol.
In addition to tocotrienol, I wonder if significant benefit can come from also consuming a high quality wheat germ oil (which has a lot of Vitamin E, as it naturally occurs, in food form - and if I understand correctly, has all the different forms of Vitamin E in it, although not in super high amounts). There's an anti-aging guru - who has many UA-cam videos - and who has a pronounced German accent - who says he takes 1 tablespoon of Wheat Germ Oil per day, along with all his other supplements. Felix Harder. However, according to my logic: a person can also (instead) just consume Wheat Germ Oil in 'soft gels' form (i.e., pills), and take several of them to approximate that dose, if they are worried about the oil turning rancid after the bottle of oil is opened. I became attracted to the idea of taking Vitamin E in its natural form (such as by consuming Wheat Germ Oil), after reading about the so called "Root Cause Protocol" ideas, as promoted / advanced by Morley Robbins. He also recommends taking Selenium, in some kind of (natural) food-based form, I think, but it's hard to find a good supplement fitting that description. ~ that is, without some kind of bummer downside to it. However, I have digressed ... But getting back to the Vitamin E question, have you ever heard about Wheat Germ Oil (in supplement form) being good to take? As part of one's stack of regular supplements, that is :) .
@@gentleoldmoviefan5680ok, haven’t heard of wheat germ so I need to look it up. But dr. Barrie Tan says tocopherol competes with tocotrienol. He sells a natural source, a berry called Annatto that only contains tocotrienol, to other companies that resells as pills. I take Brazil nuts for selenium

@@EvordRiccie WebMD says “Some laboratory studies have shown astaxanthin may hinder an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. As a result, it could keep testosterone from changing into the hormone DHT in the body.”
It was proven that the exceptions to the free radical or rate of living theory of aging like birds or humans could be explained away by the presence of membranes more resistant to reactive molecule damage. This is the membrane pacemaker theory of aging. The ITP used synthetic astaxanthin like you mention These findings regards dose are magnificent. Some sources say natural astaxanthin is up to 55x stronger than synthetic version. Though the synthetic version used in ITP is claimed to be identical to natural
regards astaxanthin, given imho the membrane pacemaker theory of aging is the most solid theory, astaxanthin function and structure as perfect protection of membranes sounds like the perfect antiaging compound. I suspect even higher doses could increase lifespan even more assuming it didn't prove toxic.
Regretably I wish I knew about Astaxanthin to save my Mom. After watching the Japanese medical tv show Medical Frontiers See: Medical Frontiers Astaxanthin The Color of Health. The Japanese are using Astaxanthin to reverse heart failure & fatty liver disease. I saw in the shows end credits that Fuji Health Chemicals was cited, & they are the oldest & original producers of Astaxanthin by this process 20-30yrs ago! & have the most unique & purest Asataxanthin process & facilities which is gown indoors under controlled conditions, with facilities located in Japan, Sweden, & Washington state. The Fuji brand is called AstaReal, & also seen in the brands listed which is the last one on the list he shows...... Any Astaxanthin with the trade mark brand of AstaReal is real Astaxanthin unadulterated.
The Japanese don't think so. , See : Medical Frontiers Astaxanthin The Color of Health . They are successfully reversing heart failure & fatty liver disease.
What about valasta astaxanthin? Why do i hear no one talk about this? I heard its the only form that truly is absorbable and its WAY stronger than astaxanthin the normal one..
Most likely they are using AstaReal who has the patent on indoor & enclosed Co2 extraction , but surprisingly, they don't mention using AstaReal like others who proudly list it like Now Brand, Doctors Best, Double Wood. Looks like they are trying to separate themselves with their proprietary process. Might want to see if they have a real patent, or are untruthful to gain market share....🤔

Avoid tocopherol and take delta/gamma tocotrienols and geranylgerniol (GG)
Yes I do & founded by Dr. Barry Tan.😁
@@chrispompano ohhh so you know about Dr. Tan?
Can you cook frozen blueberries in water and still get the benefits?;
If his English is in 2X speed his native language must be 5X speed 😉
You're correct about the speed, which annoys many. I'm incoherent in both languages 😆Works on youtube though
@ Haha, all good 😁. Thanks for all you do!! 👍
If I take algae oil together with astaxanthin on empty stomach, is that considered as taking it with fat?
Hi Rimon, Thanks for putting up such a well researched video.
I'm sure you would also have many researched reasons why Asx3 or ZanthoSyn is best brand/type. I have 2.questions.
1.Are these derived from naturally occurring algae or synthesised from petrochemicals? And
2. What is Wthe type of oils it is encased with in, eg sunflower oil or vegetable oil or coconut oil?
Good questions! 🤔
@chrispompano so the video seems to recommends the brand that it believes is the brand/products that were used in the study it was following.
The ingredients listed doesn't seem to include an oil but DI alpha tocopherol (lipid soluble form of vitamin E, which could mean there is some other lipid)
You could say hello...
Just eat wild salmon twice a week. Simple.
Not softgel. Not sure how he said 3x absorption 😂
Not to mention they have AX3 have glucose syrup.
I will have the podcast published and I will try to post the studies he mentioned.

What brand of Astaxanthin do you take?
Does anyone know if it's true that this supplement lowers dht?
I had the same concern. It appears to be a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor.
I dont think so… it is the finasteride which can lower dht.. not this
@@EvordRiccie WebMD says “Some laboratory studies have shown astaxanthin may hinder an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase.
Though the synthetic version used in ITP is claimed to be identical to natural
thank you. it seems like you need to be your own doctor these days. for everyone reading this i recommend the book the hidden herbs by anette ray
Have you seen any evidence that astaxanthin helps women? The ITP trial only showed that only male mice had extended life span.
Well you already live longer than we do. We're playing catch up... 😂
Its good to become salmon
But, you need to think deeper about it my friend, in a chemistry sense
❤️🙏❤️
i can hear Bogdanoff at the FDA getting a call. It works for logevity? Dump it, and make it impossible to buy.
I normally don't comment but for everyone reading this go read the hidden herbs by anette ray
Worms, fruit flies, mice, Sinclair... 😂!!!! And the human studies are really weak...
regards astaxanthin, given imho the membrane pacemaker theory of aging is the most solid theory, astaxanthin function and structure as perfect protection of membranes sounds like the perfect antiaging compound. I suspect even higher doses could increase lifespan even more assuming it didn't prove toxic.
Quackery !!!
Definitely not
Regretably I wish I knew about Astaxanthin to save my Mom. After watching the Japanese medical tv show Medical Frontiers See: Medical Frontiers Astaxanthin The Color of Health.
The Japanese are using Astaxanthin to reverse heart failure &
fatty liver disease. I saw in the shows end credits that Fuji Health Chemicals was cited, & they are the oldest & original producers of Astaxanthin by this process 20-30yrs ago! & have the most unique & purest Asataxanthin process &
facilities which is gown indoors under controlled conditions, with facilities located in Japan, Sweden, & Washington state.
The Fuji brand is called AstaReal, & also seen in the brands listed which is the last one on the list he shows......
Any Astaxanthin with the trade mark brand of AstaReal is real Astaxanthin unadulterated.
what a bunch of speculative nonsense.
The Japanese don't think so. ,
See : Medical Frontiers Astaxanthin The Color of Health .
