  • I give you my thoughts on the upcoming release of the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona EV and the Hurricane equipped Charger. Dodge plans to release the details on March 5th and may have a few surprises in store for us as well to include a very limited edition with a hellcat engine. I hope Dodge actually does this and keep their dealers from price gouging people.

Me too bro. Dodge is Dead On Arrival in 2024. No one will buy the EV or the inline 6. What would be the point. No one wants this shit we want High Horsepower V8s. It's the V8 experience that we are buying nothing else. That's why Ford said we will gladly keep selling V8s even if we are the only brand doing it. They listened to us and payed attention to what happened with their own EV shit that no one wants.

@@geton411 Certain EV's aren't selling well, but 2023 was a RECORD sales year for EV's- 1.2 million EV's were sold, the highest amount ever to this point.EV's total market share in the US grew from 5.9% in 2022 to 7.6% in 2023 that's market share of total US auto sales; the ONLY segment that's growing btw.... EV's sales in 2024 are already on pace to exceed the projected 2024 market share increase to 10%. These are HUGE sales increases year over year. Yes, Tesla is grabbing nearly 55% of ALL EV's sold- so huge numbers for that one brand, but thats why automakers are all in for EV's now. Outside of us enthusiasts, the "mass" market consumer which purchases vehicles as efficient transportation appliances seem to have far less reservations about purchasing EV's. The anti-EV propaganda runs rampant in the US, but really does not reflect the facts of what is really happening. The sales numbers overall tell a much different, and very dynamic story. Racer X has touched on this- the reality vs. the propaganda. Theres no doubt that non-competitive EV's aren't selling very well, but the market leaders are selling extremely well.
The problems with the sales losers in the EV segment are the same as with regular ICE vehicles; if they're not good enough, or value-to-dollar is not competitive with the segment leader (Tesla), people will not spend their hard earned $$$ on vehicles that don't make a compelling alternative. The Lightning doesn't have enough battery, the Mach-E shouldn't have Mustang attached to it for one, name it Taurus or ANYTHING ELSE, but people are offended that its called a Mustang. Also people shy away from the Mach E simply because the charging experience sucks, as they do the Lightning... The switch to Tesla's NACS standard will fix that for the 2026 Models (if not already for the 2025 MY- not sure if they're coming with NACS yet). On top of all that, the prices were too high- and going in the wrong direction. If Dodge wants to be successful in the EV space, they need products that can go toe-to-toe with Tesla on features, design, and price. If they can do all of those things, Dodge could be very successful in the EV space. As we're witnessing so far though- that's not as simple as it sounds.

If it doesn't have a supercharged V8 they can keep it. I owned a 6.1, 6.4, Hellcat and currently a Hellcat Redeye, all Challenger SRT's. I wanted a Demon 170, but the mark up's were ridiculous. I didn't buy any of these car's for the "collectable status" I drive my Redeye everyday. I'm not too happy with Dodge turning on there loyal supporters. If they don't do something to remedy this I will never purchase another car from them again.

You must not really know how corporate companies work. These hemis were old and not emissions compliant for everyone they sold in a car they were hit with penalties and fines so why would they keep making them only to turn around and give the revenue to the government. Think!!!! And where would the money come from to invest into a new engine when the industry is moving to smaller displacements and turbos. The only arms of Stellantis that will get premium investments is jeep and ram. It's a reason why they're doing this. They're in business to make money not besties.

It’s not lighter it’s a heavy long boat for absolutely no reason it should’ve be aerodynamic on the sides and the back it’s too basic and long. That wheel base looks way too long they need to shorten it a bit.
To make it look more like a sleek and nimble coupe. Like how BMW and Mercedes slim down and makes their heavy cars aerodynamic for power to weight ratio. This car is not a muscle car so they need to make it light to keep up with Mustang and Camaro.
It just has the shell of a muscle car with no heart it has no V8 no muscle. Dodge needs to make this car between 3,760lbs-3,880lbs. If it’s not around that weight this is ridiculously too heavy for a EV the battery is already heavy lighten the car up.

Issue is they can't just "drop a hellcat in it". Any time you change a major component such as an engine or transmission the car needs to be re-certified again and crash tested which costs millions. The current car didnt have that problem because it was already certified for the hemi engine across the board, its why it was so easy for them to put the 6.4 in that last call 300, it had previously had that engine before. Its why the Rams (and everything else coming) had to wait until mid cycle refresh time to put the hurricane in them, its a massive expenditure.

They already released it and got rid of it before 2011 it was called the 6.1l Hemi naturally aspirated and took mods well they got rid of it before they could pair it with the 8 speed transmission. It was the perfect option between the 5.7 and the 6.4 if you didn’t gave enough money for the 6.4 you bought the 6.1 and if you didn’t have enough for 6.1 or 6.4 you got 5.7. They need to bring 6.1 engine back and put the Hellcat 8 speed transmission on it and put it out as a option. I love the advancement of technology. And I'm not mad or disappointed about a lighter chassis and more powerful lighter engine. But you'll never get the sound of a 6.4l hemi unless you have a 6.4l hemi. And, I don't mind cruising around at 40 mph and hearing the engine make all the right noises and having a sound track going to hwy speeds at a faster rate than most other cars out there. The Hurricane engine will be a weapon though, and I'm really excited to see people mess with them in the new Dodge chassis.

I for it please make the ultimate version of the hellcat that we all wanted. Hellcat v8 with electric motors for awd. The holy grail would be a twin turbo hellcat on awd built with the electric assist. Or hell a built big cubic inch motor with a big blower and the ev awd. Either one would do nicely.

I had a 1987 Buick grand national and now have a 21 hemi charger. They both sound excellent, not sure which sound I prefer, but the turbo v6 Buick was significantly quicker. If dodge made the turbo v6 sound and feel like the Buick it would do very well. It wouldn’t replace the hemi v8, but wouldn’t be a bad substitute.

Been a Mopar fan since the early 1960's. I got my driver's license in April 1972. Curently we have 6 Mopar vehicles at my house. While the Hurricane engine is different. It is different in a good way. Since the cylinders have a plasma spray, the cylinder bores will be quite tough. I wouldn't be surprised if a rebuild may include new rings and no cylinder work. I have made aluminum clutches for race cars that had a .040" thick plasma coating. And after a season of racing, virtually no wear on the pressure plate or clutch face. The floating plate was sintered iron.
I would have preferred a 4.0L, 4 or 6 cylinder. Maybe a future engine. Wouldn't mind if our Ram 2500 had a 4 cylinder Cummins for more payload capacity. We currently average 22mpg with our 4Wheel popup camper on board.
The future engines will be different, and may put the Hemi engines of any generation to shame.
