Just wanted to share these videos with you all so we can enjoy and steal a lot of great ideas from these amazing players!! I’d never held a mobile phone in front of my chest for an hour! Every time I thought I would stop the camera at the end of a song, they started a new one so I just kept recording! The dimensions the four guitars were creating was so beautiful.
Thnk you so much for posting this ..all music no ego"s ..it shows that Tommy is indeed out there in the world to meet great musicians and guitarists with whom he can make such wonderfull music.
Thanks so much for recording and uploading these! However, I won't be stealing any ideas from them... I would need to practice at least 25 hours per day for years to get anywhere near good enough to start stealing ideas from them! 😁
Richard is a machine. He can recall anything he’s ever played at a moment’s notice. And if he’s never played it, just let him listen to it for a moment and he will play it perfectly instantaneously. So incredibly gifted. PTL #GuitarHeroes
A whole room of people, nobody paying attention, they are just playing for each other ,amazing, feel sorry for the room, they do not know what they are missing,I sit here watching in awe, wishing I could pick this good!😀
There is a difference in those who have a passion for music and those who just like to listen to it. The ones who listen and then go off and do their thing dont have the love and passion. Those who are glued to this talent are the ones who love music with a passion and enough to want to learn an instrument themselves
It makes me feel a little better seeing that people not only talk and socialize when my band plays but they do it when some of the best acoustic players in the world are playing this amazing jam, go figure lol.
One of the reasons so few people achieve greatness in their lifetimes is because they are oblivious to it even when they are in its presence. How can you possibly be cackling in the background when there is so much greatness assembled in one spot for such a short period time?!
richard is the only guitarist I've see on youtube that transfixes tommy. just amazing ability that took so long and to make look like your just warming up is just insane!
I've been sing'n an pick'n since age 6. I'm 47 yrs old now. Actually a distant relative of the Osbourne Bros. tht Richard commented on. Was born and raised in the hills of East Tennessee in the same small town tht Jimmy Martin is from. I've been blessed to work wth a lot of successful, notable acts throughout the 1990's when I was signed wth an Indy label in Nashville so I know a lil sumpin ' bout the Git-fiddle and U CATS R DA CHIT!!!!! Absolutely unbelievable!! Thank u so much for sharing
These two have been playing together for years. We all know about Tommy, but Richard Smith is off the charts. Funny how most people just don't get it. Hence the background noise. Lol
Never heard of him before this video but goddamn he sets them frets on fire. That joe pass/django reinhardt style ascending chord style lick in the second jam was mind melting
WHAT'S REALLY SO AWESOME ABOUT THIS VIDEO IS THE CAPTURE OF THE GENUINE LOVE AND PASSION THESE GREAT MUSICIANS HAVE FOR THERE SHARED GIFT AND COMPETENCE IN BRINGING INTO EXISTENCE......REAL MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I first thought Tommy Emmanuel was Brian Setzer... Perhaps because of the Atkins and Les Paul feel in his playing. I have to confess I didn't know these amazing artists; I am glad I now do. Thanks for the videos, Akira.
Who in the f#*- is having a conversation and not focusing 100% of their attention on your guy’s performance? That’s the question here! Beautiful playing gentleman...as ALWAYS..
Taking acid and watching this is a blast, but it's been a while since I've blinked though, can't take my eyes off theese guys for a blink of an eye :-o
ah, good old human nature's need to always remind ourselves that there's an us and them. it really does seem to come out of us naturally without us realizing it. we are truly flawed creatures in this regard and destined to repeat this vicious cycle.
I think you're reading a bit too far into it. I'm sure laymen, like myself, can appreciate the moment and can empathize with the players here, but I imagine David just meant to say that as a guitarist himself, he can relate to the fun atmosphere and maybe has insight others may not. I didn't read it as being exclusive
You are SO damned right! ;) Non-guitar pickers might say that they understand- but they only THINK they do. A jam like this is utterly true love, joy, fun and all other good things, and you and your jam-mate(s) just loose contact with world around you disappearing into the music, the mood, and each others minds.
Couldn't agree more some of my happiest memories are when I'd jam with my best friend and his dad at their house we'd just lose ourselves in the absolute joy of it
Yeah I picked it too!! I reckon it sounds better acoustically with these guys playing than it sounds on electric guitars, and I've been a Ventures fan from their beginning - shows how old I am!! But I've seen Tommy Emmanuel several times on stage (and he's played my 48 year old Maton 12-string and thought it was wonderful!) and he is the consummate gentleman and musician!! There aren't enough good things you could say about this guy!!
Two Aussies (Tommy & Michael) and a Brit (Richard). Common denominator is the way they're playing these songs is directly from their mentor... Mr. Guitar himself -- Chet.
Interpretation of other people's music is one thing [great though the interpretation is here]. What Australia needs [and deserves] is a modern day jazz classic written/co-written by Tommy Emmanuel and/or Richard Smith. The only person capable of writing the words is Barry Humphries - get on to Bazza before it's too late. What beautiful talent Australia has - go Tommy/Richard/Barry. I'm English and love you all.
Wow, I sure enjoyed watching this. Thanks for posting it. I'm a big fan of Tommy E, and I'm glad I was able to see & hear some other great guitar players together with him. Richard Smith really stands out here. The third guitar player is really good too, I just don't know his name. Great video!
I saw John Fahey and Peter Lang jam many years ago. It was awesome as well. At least Tommy and Richard play in standard tuning. With Fahey it was hard to pick out what he was doing because of some of the exotic tunings he used.
The best air guitar playing I have ever seen....in the next room - mic-ed up and pumped into this room via the audio equipment you see in the back ground - were the real guitarists Al De Meola and Paco De Lucia . They did this as a spoof to see if people were attracted to their playing or their big name star power. As you can hear by the crowd noise and lack of applause after the virtuoso performances....,,people like star power but have no idea what great music actually is. I bet those people feel like fools after over 100,000 real people enjoyed this concert by masters of their art and craft.
yeah at that point any amount of alcohol is making us deaf to the mastery coming forth :) liquor only makes us enjoy shitty performances as we overlook the mistakes and the tone etc ;P @@looniethemoonie5353
And it's easily understandable your claim: the best jam I've ever witnessed. Who could possibly disagree? This could have been the best for everyone on this planet! Ha! Ha!
ONCE IN A LIFE TIME GREATNESS IN THE ROOM AND THE PEOPLE CACKLING IN THE BACKGROUND TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!.......MY HEAD HURTS....KINDA LIKE EATING DECADENT ICE CREAM WAY TO FAST!!!!!!!!!!.....;- }
You know, I've said before that people like this make me want to burn my guitar because I'll never be as good. But now I say stuff that. If your music makes even one person happy, you did good. Even if that person is just yourself.
Richard Smith is the most well rounded musically polished guitarist full stop, seems no style he can't play ⏯️

Well done for posting these videos and for keeping the camera rolling... you captured a piece of pure artistry, beautifully x

You know you’re good when you see these two jamming and you grab a chair and join in
Tommy is a great guitarist but he is a great entertainer as well and likes people . We are blessed to have such a guy .
Agree on ALL counts. Saw him live in South Florida before coronavirus shut everything down. Very gracious person who conveys a lot of joy.
Wow! For once a UA-cam title that exactly describes the video! The best jam I've ever witnessed.

Akira, you did an amazing job on both recording it and then share it, thank you a million times!
I watch Tommy and Richard play solo, and play with other people. but there is something truly magical that happens when they play together.
The best jam that Ive ever witnessed. Three times now, because I watched these 6 videos back to back to back! These guys are some "Smooth cats".
Up to around my 10th visit now : )

Yes, we did enjoy immensely.
Them boys are jamming amazing guitar players
while the audience is chatting .......who are those country bumpkins ?
Love the rendition of Sweet Georgia Brown!!!
I love how they were looking at each others guitar more than they were looking at their own. They definitely know their shit very well.
Mastery of the fretboard
Something that really amazes me about Tommy - he is as humble a human being as he is a great guitar player; a truly rare combination.
never get tired of listening to these guys

as the poster said, this was an impromptu session, most of the people in the background didn't even realise the guys were playing!
Most probably their wives. :)
LOL!!!!!! I thought the same thing! As we can hear, it's mostly women, LOL!!!!! Love these guys!
Wouldn’t it be cool to jam like that and still be able to smile????
I’d take my first breath when the last chord was played 😳

First tune is called 'Walk Don't Run' originally done by the Ventures and one of the first guitar tunes I learned more than 50 years ago.
Well, originally done (and written by) jazz guitarist Johnny Smith. But the Ventures had the hit record.
How did you like this rendition?
Yeah I picked it too!! I reckon it sounds better acoustically with these guys playing than it sounds on electric guitars, and I've been a Ventures fan from their beginning - shows how old I am!!
