Don’t be jealous- a lot of them do audiobooks, which you can certainly do. Also, 50 books in a year is not lame. My goal last year was 50, and I got to 45. This year, I’m shooting for 50. Keep in mind that people who read 150 books in a year most likely do not work and get most of their income telling you and me on their vlogs how many books they read and about the books. Not that that’s a bad thing. You’re reading: that’s what matters. 😊

If it makes you feel any better, my goal for this year is 12 😂 if I can get a book a month done, I’ll be thrilled! Love the videos!

12 books a month is completely OK, whether it takes you a week to read and enjoy a book or six months to read and enjoy a book, at least you are reading 🫡

I'm having trouble finishing the last 200 pages, now 100, of Wizards & Glass. Even the paper back version is HEAVY. I have a Kindle but seldom use it. Love an actual book. // Don't have book goals. As in a number. When I get 3/4's done with one book I order another.

I love my kindle so much. I do appreciate a physical copy as well though, and have repeats of favorite books too :) The Mist sounds great. Stephen King is such an amazing author!

I always keep at least two books in my car, usually more. If I have to wait while I’m parked somewhere I just reach into the backseat and grab my current “car book”. If I go in to an appointment I take my car book with me. The Stand is my current car book and I am at around page 430. It’s so convenient to have books in my car and not have to remember to bring my house book with me!

I'm totally addicted to my Kindle. I had a 4th Gen for about 12 years, upgraded to a 10th Gen (white, no fingerprints) and have recently bought another 4th Gen in mint condition from eBay, so that I have one for home use and one for out and about and with the "whispersync" function, they automatically update the "reading position," between themselves, whichever one you use.
Tbh, I rarely, if ever, use "physical books," unless someone buys them for me and I read a whole lot more, using the Kindle(s) than I ever did with real books. Plus, you can take your entire library around with you!📚📚😉😉

I do most of my reading on my kindle... I love it. every book is the same size and is easy to take anywhere with me, I can customize my reading experience to my liking (line spacing, margins, text size etc) and I don't have to worry about lighting because of how it lights up. It makes books like the Stand feel less daunting. The Stand is the only book so far that I have read twice. Once via paperback and the second on my kindle. That hard cover you have is beautiful though.

50 is my goal this year too I believe. Very attainable but not overwhelming. I don’t want reading to become a chore I have to finish.

Great video! I find your stuff very motivational. It's so casual and inviting, I yearn to read more and then talk about what I've been reading, not just the story but like what you're doing, talking about how reading impacts my life. And I like hearing your stories about what reading is doing for you. I look forward to your next video on what books you're planning to read, and maybe I'll pick up a copy of those too, try to read with you.
Where abouts in Canada are you?

Last year (feels weird to say that about 2023) I read 100 books, of which 72 were print/digital. Because I've started listening to audiobooks as well as reading print/digital, I decided last year to set a page goal as well as a title goal. My title goal started out as 65, but I had reached that by August, so I upped it to 100 just to see if I could. My page goal was 20.000, and I ended up at 22.426. A page goal is a good one, imo, if you tend to read bigger books, or if you read in different formats and want to be more specific about how much you read in each format. This year I set my goal to 70 books and 22.000 pages, just because I like to keep it realistic. I can always up it if I reach it long before the end of the year. I upped the page goal to 22.000 because I think (/hope) I will be reading more print this year. Honestly, 50 is impressive to me, especially for someone who only started reading fairly recently! That's almost a book a week, and as you said yourself about the holidays; there will be moments where you won't be able or won't want to spend a lot of time reading, so it'll probably even itself out with moments where you're reading more. When I got back into reading a while back, I set a goal of 50, which seemed so achievable, because I used to read like 5 books a week, and then I ended up 'only' reading 27 books that year (I know 27 is still a lot for some, but to me it felt like 'only'). In the end, with reading, it's all about the journey, not the goal. I see so many people rush through novellas and books they don't really want to read just to get to their goal at the end of the year. I don't care that much. I'd rather read 20 good books than 50 bad ones.
Edit, because I saw someone else mention it: I've also started keeping a book journal aside from tracking my books on Storygraph (indie Goodreads alternative). It makes me feel more engaged with reading as a hobby to keep track of it in an analog way, and it helps me better retain information about what I read. I don't like writing in books or taking notes as I read, but I'll write down quotes or thoughts afterwards, and then when I read those back later it helps me remember the book better than it just being a title in a list on a screen.

Epub from the library on my phone was my gateway into reading when my kids were babies and I was nursing or up often in the night! So easy to read anywhere! I’ve set a 52 books a year goal for the last 5 years and been right between 55-60. This year I hit 70 (the most ever) because I added audio books during all the “household chore/long drives” parts of my day.
Love hearing about what you’re reading. Thanks for sharing.

I saw your short story box set in another video and have put it on my to find list... I've been searching for great short stories to keep the momentum and habit of reading going. The longer books are starting to feel long lately.. instead of the gift of extra content. Love my Kindle paperwhite. I'm shooting for 100 on the 2024 Goodreads challenge, 6 completed so far (admittedly, 2 were shorties and most were audiobooks - but that still counts). I can't remember if you asked anything else. 🙌 Have a great week! LY!

I love The Stand but had the same issue as you where I found the physical version uncomfortable to hold so I ended up downloading the Kindle app on my IPad and read that way which was way more comfortable and enjoyed being able to read in any sitting position without worrying about the lighting. I’m moving house for the first time in a few weeks and one of the first things I’d like to get is a moveable lamp so I can direct it to being on the book and hopefully be able to sit in a comfortable enough position. My book goal was awful last year where I usually plan on reading 20 (including comics) but ended up only reading two which were Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub which is a sequel to The Talisman and I loved it as well as Eyes Of The Dragon which I also enjoyed a lot because I had heart surgery for a replacement valve and struggled with concentrating. I’m hoping once I feel settled in my place I’ll get in the right mood to read again. Really glad I discovered this channel! It’s been fun binging these videos today and looking forward to hearing what you read next.

I always set my goal to 52. It’s doable even if I read long books or take a break from reading one or two months. I used to raise it all the time, but it just would make me postpone long books forever. So I just keep it at 52 now! lol

Kindle’s are great especially if you’re reading a big book 📖 as it’s easier to hold and carry around than a big book if you’re travelling to work etc. Also 50 books target has me like 🤯 I usually set my goal at 15 and manage less than that a year. But I am hoping to have more free time this year so hopefully I’ll smash my target 🤞🏻

Yeah I get what you mean about the yearly book goal. I would love to read 100 books per year but I'm such a slowass reader. It takes me like an hour and a half to read 50 or 60 pages. And I work a lot of overtime so I don't always have much time to read and sometimes I'm too tired to. I do listen to audiobooks while at work, though. But I go through phases where I need music to pump me up at work instead, so it's all a mess for me when it comes to reading lmao. I know some people put their audiobook speed on like 1.5x to like 2.0x but to me that ruins the pace. Especially because I mainly read horror and thrillers. Listening to a super speeded up voice ruins the tension. Sometimes I'll go to 1.25x if the narrator is monotonous and pauses too long a lot. But I like to keep it at normal speed if I can.

50 is a great goal! I have no idea how those people read 80 to 150 a year. Do they even take all the book in? Are they skipping pages? lol
I changed my goal to 52 a year. So one a week 🤷‍♀️ sometimes a big book will take more time, but then you counter that with small books, maybe a couple in each week to even it out. 50/52 is a great number to read in a more relaxing way, rather than feeling like you have to rush through each book to meet a target 😊

  • @BookestNoob
    @BookestNoob 8 місяців тому

I think 50 is definitely not that low of a number! It's a fine goal, especially with longer books in there. :)
I think a lot of the people that read, 90, 100 and even more books a year typically read shorter books most of the time and either have reading books as their job (as in booktube) or have a job that allows them to read or listen to audiobooks while working. Not every time of course but I think its often the case.
So especially on booktube I think thats skewing the numbers a bit.
    My goal is 30ish.

I would never be able to read 100 books in a year! I feel like I wouldn’t take anything in or even remember it that well and for me reading is about enriching my life verses hitting a certain number of books in year. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that if that’s peoples goals, just different reasons! Everybody is reading and all is good :) I also use a book journal, not in the aesthetic way booktubers do but just a journal where I write down thoughts and questions as I read through a book. Helps me remember things so much!

Good idea about the journal. I also agree with your statement about quality of reading over quantity. I read 15 books last year.
