@@norru9852 Yeah, I suppose Rage mode was mostly just a damage boost back then, but I never noticed it much because my friends and I just pretty much headlocked monsters all the time with GS and Lance. It made killing 50 Rathlos/Ians in order to unlock Fatalis much more tolerable.
To @baval5 who said that you couldn't headlock monsters with the GS: You most definitely could, and only using 1 GS even though it was a lot easier with 2, or course. My friends and I use to do to split in 2 group on the dual Raths quest and headlock them only using 1 GS each, and the other 2 guys would just attack wherever else they felt was effective.
I actually had one friend who headlocked a Gravios, which I didn't even know you could do at the time.

Dual Blades were definitely in the original PS2 Monster Hunter in the west, but were hidden in the Sword and Shield tree. The Rath dual blades, Cephalos/Plesioth dual blades, standard metal dual blades (Cyclone), and Lao-Shan Lung dual blades were in the game just off the top of my head (though that’s probably all of them lmao).
I don’t recall any of them being very good, but they were neat because many players online didn’t even know they were in the game. I’d often shock people when they saw me using them!

3U was my first and it remains my favorite. The underwater parts were hated by most, but I thought that the use of the normally unused space was a fantastic idea. It also allowed for an amazing amount of shortcuts and the development of the leviathans.
Underwater stuff has been talked about by the Breath of the Wild community for a while now and I wonder, if they do add it, will they look at MH3 for inspiration.

I almost forgot Felyne Village existed, even though I've played the one on the PSP. I think there's also a new one on the 3DS but of course, japan-only. I feel its gameplay got simplified and carried over into the form of MH4U's meownster hunters (and Gen/U went full on the felyne concept by making felyne entirely playable anyway, so I guess the series lost its point).
I sure hope just like how felynes grew into prowler, they find a way to implement their other spinoffs into the mainline game. *cough* Stories *cough*

Honestly the switch to the Wii (no puns intended) was probably one of the best decisions for MH3. The fact that they could use the controllers of the Wii in such a different way compared to a normal gamepad opened up a LOT of utility that was especially useful in underwater combat. They put a big emphasis on tilt controls on the Wii, where you could ascend and descend while swimming with the same button press and either pointing your controller up or down. It was ridiculously intuitive and probably the reason the underwater combat in MH3U (for the 3DS with a normal gamepad) felt clunky as all hell. I really wish we'd get some of the underwater movement fixed up and properly implemented, because to me the underwater biome was probably the most awesome thing that I've seen in Monster Hunter so far.
