I tried to start a monster Hunter club in Seattle during portable 3rd times. Our most successful meetup was during PAX. Yuri from Capcom actually came and played with us! He wasn't allowed to play portable 3rd though haha. We played Unite instead. He was very skilled at the hammer. I remember this one kid, who was probably 14, came up to us and there was about 6 of us all playing 3rd on beanbags. He was very awkward and nerdy. He asked me "is this the Seattle monster Hunter society?" And I said "yah! Do you live in Seattle?" And he kind of bashfully said "no, I live in Idaho" and then began to walk away. I was like "wait, do you have your psp on you?" And he turned around and was like "yeah . . . Is it okay if I play with you guys?" I laughed and told him it absolutely was. He grinned ear to ear and sat down on a bean bag. He was a hunting horn user and super funny. It felt so awesome to engage strangers about this weird game we were all playing in Japanese. It felt so secret and awesome. I'm so happy seeing the success of this title and the evolution to the next gen. I hope that kid still uses hunting horn 🖤

Started with the original Monster Hunter back on PS2. Oh, the memories...
    ...
When you attacked with the right stick, moved camera with the D-pad, and one of the buttons that would later be used for attacks was "open tutorial menu for the like three quests that had tutorials".
When gathering spots would still let you try to gather when there was nothing left.
When hammer didn't stun and greatsword didn't charge.
When subspecies weren't even a concept, and the big final boss of single player was the Monoblos.
When there was no canteen or Felyne Helpers.
When "verticality" just meant Zone 6 in the Forest & Hills.
When the fighting Plesioth required you to bring a rare gatherable item from a DIFFERENT MAP just to START the fight.
When you had to buy the little blurb and logo for every monster from the shop.
When you had to bring five combo books in your twenty-slot inventory to make sure you would actually craft a potion instead of garbage.
When I would go to school in the morning and tell my friend about how I couldn't get past Rathalos STILL because I would run out of time because he WOULD SPEND HALF OF THE QUEST IN THE SKY, JUST CIRCLING THE AREA,
    ...
    Good times.

My hunting carrier began in the waters of Moga. Diving below the surface, getting livers of the Epioths...
...and witnessing how an azure scaled thunder tore through the dark depths and killing my prey in seconds.
I once saw Tri on the shelves and what hooked me to it was the image of the Lagiacrus roaring down at the hunter. If it hadn't been for Lagiacrus, I would have probably never joined this awesome community. I sank countless hours into this game's online mode, but was unable to witness Loc Lac's dying breaths. The hub always had a soft spot in my heart. Can't believe so much time has passed already. It still feels like yesterday when I picked it up. It really is incredible how far the franchise has come over the years.

    • @natbvm1880
      @natbvm1880 3 роки тому +17

That was my first game as well. However I was terrified of playing online for a very long time, afraid I would suck lol. Which I did, until finally after almost a year I started online and started LEARNING SO MUCH from watching people and learning all the little tricks. Trap, flashbomb, trap, flashbomb. Sleep-bombing. I had no idea. Tactics are so cultural in this game, it's amazing. God I know I'm in the minority but I miss underwater. It was so awesome.

    • @TheRegulus01
      @TheRegulus01 3 роки тому +15

@@natbvm1880 I liked the underwater combat as well. I like foward to it returning with improvements and the Leviathan class's return.
That fear of playing online is pretty much natural. It is human to go into a new environment with mixed feelings and be scared of messing up. Be it in games, be it in real life with school, work, moving.
But the most you learn is from watching and hunting with others. This community is very welcome and helpful. If you are new, you are no scorned at, but there will always be people who will show you the ropes. Yes, there are elitists, but they are in every community and in most cases, are drowned in supportive voices of the masses. That is what I always like about the community.
Because these new ones can be staple partners before you know it ;)

While I owned MH Freedom, my true introduction to the series was Freedom 2. So many memories, the game starting out with Tigrex hospitalizing you, his subsequent invasions of your village quests, that exciting discovery of the game’s diverse roster of monsters (and having none of them spoiled by obnoxious thumbnails), our ominous introduction to the elder dragons, all my walls, Khezu, Shogun Ceanataur, Gravios, EACH of the true elder dragons, and, most important to me, Tigrex.
Then I upgraded to Freedom Unite and with it came Nargacuga, forgotten favourites if mine Hypnocatrice and Yamatsukami, the HELL that was farming FIVE heavenlies for Gold Rathian’s armour, then after months, my triumph over Ukanlos.

Oddly one if my favorite hunting experiences is seeing my friend find his calling as a hunter in world. While playing monster hunter world he was fighting odogaron and he finally started to fight with desire to win. The music the tension the desire to fight it reminded of when I truly felt a desire to hunt.
God now I remember my call of the hunter. Mh3u on the Wii u. A young teen me was playing on a summer night. I was playing online and still learning strategies and was helped out along the way by others teaching me. My first rathalos hunt. We had got it about 3/4 of the way, but then I disconnected from the other. I didn't want to give up. I fought and fought. I ran out of healing items, but still kept fighting to get my rewards. At one point I was running to the bed everytime I was below half health. I was worrying I would time out or faint. Then at my fifth go I did it slayed my first rathalos... My first true hunting struggling and desire to complete the mission. Always have the G rank rathalos armor as a trophy.

Just did the same thing with Gravios urgent quest in MHF1, ran out of healing items, fainted twice but had broken his chest and he was limping, so I took my time with him and after a few close calls and running back to camp 4 times to sleep I managed to slay him

My call of a hunter was kehzu. Yes, khezu. I was young (maybe 11) and mhf was my first "real" game I ever played, ignoring racing games here. Khezu urgent quest. I was trying over and over, I hadn't understood the mechanics of mh at this point. Light bow gun, the basic one without any improvements. I guess I already fainted one or two times. I was fiering my shots, which were starting to run out, I mostly relied on normal S 1 . Time was running out, the khezu left the icy cave, I ran behind him to the first "ice cold" area. I fiered paralyzing ammo to paralyze him from distance. He hitted the ground lifeless, I've slayed my first big monster. I was so exited I runned and told my dad😅
Still one of my core memories of my monster hunter live

I started with MH3U on the 3DS. By the time I got a feel for that game (I was just getting to fighting Crimson Qurupeco) MH4U was released. To this day, even after putting 1000 of hours into MHG, MHGU, MHW, and MHWI my favorite will always be MH4U. The story, environments, gameplay, and community within MH4U was just a phenomenal experience. The weapons felt amazing, armor had great stats and skills, and the progression of monsters felt challenging. Out of all the Monster Hunter games, the story in MH4U truly made me feel like a caravan hunter that saved so many people through the climax of Shagaru Magala and Gogmazios (with Gogmazios and Dalamadur being my favorite monsters/fights). Whenever my friends tell me they don't find Monster Hunter games appealing I recommend playing MH4U, because it truly made me feel like a growing hunter.

    Ahhh the memories....
one day suddendly I started to wonder: why aren't there games (RPG, Adventure, etc) in which equiping new armors or clothes alteres the appeareance of the character using them?
Another day I wondered: Is there a game where I can fight dragons or huge monsters?
These two questions put me to search through the internet and my prayers where answered with Monster hunter Freedom Unite for PSP. I got so hooked to this game but as a rookie hunter, my ass was handed down to me so many times that I started to get frustrated... until I finally managed to capture a HUB velocidrome... yes, I was being chewed by a monster intended to be hunted by 4 players while still in my starting gear.... I really am glad that I did not stopped trying, the sensation of accomplishment was so powerful that I am not able to put down GenU to this day even after hundreds of hour playing. I may not be the best hunter out there, but man, this game is so fun be it solo or co-op. For me, Monster hunter is the best series of games ever along with Metroid.

The really first MH game i played is MH 2dos, back then when i don't even know that my ps2 was jaibreak-ed and i buy the game from some store clerk in the side of the road, which is pirated disc, and only for half to quarter dollar. It's very very cheap. I don't know what this game is so i played it and the game stuck on hub area, and i just recently found out that mh2dos is japan only game and don't have any localization. I can't play anything, can't do any quest, just running around and talking to all the npc.
Fast forward to middle school, i forgot why but i don't have my ps2 anymore. But i got this friend, i always sleep over in his house, and we played this game, just called "monster hunter" since he had ps2 back then. I don't even remember that this game and the game i played back then is the same franchise, but what i remember is, the first time i saw forest and hill, my jaw drop and I'm speechless for how gorgeous the game is. The aptonoth in the distance, the "velociraptor-like" velociprey, and the gathering area, which unlike the recent game, back then they don't have any button prompt so you have to guess where to find any herb/mining/mushroom/fishing point is. I don't know why, but the feeling of exploring and searching for the monster, while trying to find its pattern before eventually find it and throw the paintball is so satisfying.
I remember once, me and my friend tried to find rathalos in forest and hill, for almost half an hour we can't find it because we don't know what psychoserum is, so we just running around trying to find it. I don't know is it a curse or something but it seems we always half a minute too late when we got to the area its in, the rathalos already gone to other area. But it was fun. It gave you the sense of "hunting" in the truest sense. You just hope your luck gave you the opportunity to find the monster.
After that, i got into the game really fast, and i played freedom unite, 3rd portable and that's it. Due to family financial condition, I can't afford to buy any console, and the franchise just disappeared from my life. Although once in a while i played 3rdp on emulator just to feed my craving for some hunting action.
But when MHW wad announced, i really can't believe it. Not only the franchise is back to the home console, but also come to PC. Maeby I'm too biased to this franchise, but i can say that is one of the happiest moment in my life.
I'm sorry for the long comment and sorry for the broken english since is not my first language, and i think nobody will read this but to all of you from MH community and also to the dev, thank you, for making this franchise, bigger than life experience that i won't forget, and keep making awesome contents, the game for the dev, and video like this for content creators, or just sharing the experience with friends for us who just love this game. Once again, thank you to all of you, and happy hunting!

I’m fairly new to the MH franchise. When I was in job corps, I didn’t really talk to anybody. I just sat in my room and played my 3ds. A couple guys noticed this, and asked if I had MH. I said I’d never heard of it, so the next time we got to the store, i walked over to a GameStop, and I traded bravely default and rune factory for MH4U. They were all g crown already, so I couldn’t hunt with them, but they walked me through how to play, and even helped me through low rank + high rank hub quests. After I graduated, I kept playing, but my little hunting group never kept in touch. I bought every release since, using the same name I had in 4 in hopes I would run into them in a hub. I haven’t yet, but Ill keep playing, and holding out hope that I will someday. So, thank you, Jason and Ian. If you somehow see this, I miss y’all, and I’m itching to hunt with y’all again.

Thanks a lot for this Gaijin, and for everything you contributed to the community to this day, I teared up a little...
All my hunting life flashed before me, starting late in the MH1 circa 2008? I stumbled across the game in a yard sale here in Brazil, going all the way Japan and buying a 3DSLL and MH4G during the launch weekend in some small store in Tokyo, whose owner was a MonHan fan kind enough to give me a small discount because I was clutching a plush Palico I got from an UFO catcher earlier that week, and round back to Brazil and my fond memories of B52 air raid sirens waking me up at night amidst cold sweat PTSD-induced nightmares :')

When I started with MH3U on the 3DS, I didn't know anyone who played the game nor was I online-savvy enough to go onto forums and the like. Your tumblr is what gave me my first legs into the series, and to see how far the game and the community has come since then just feels surreal. Here's to many more years of Monster Hunter.

I’ve been playing since 3G. My friend was the one who originally got me into playing it. It was just unfortunate that I never really enjoyed it at the time because it initially felt really slow. I felt like I was going nowhere with the small monsters and fetch quests of low rank.
However that changed really quickly as soon as the same friend as before got me into 4 ultimate (my favorite in the series.) That’s when the series finally clicked for me. I have such fine memories of the game, like one time where the gore magala and I were charging towards each other and I jumped, smashing it’s head with my hammer and putting it in a KO’d state. Moments like these really cemented my love for the series.
Now both my friend and I have kept up with the series till now. I love the monster hunter franchise with a fiery passion and only hope that more people find the same enjoyment out of it that I do. Thank you for the video gaijin hunter and for helping me relive the history I have with the franchise thus far.

Man, Silver Rathalos made me drop the game for almost months until I came back to it, I was mad at him, but I will forever remember those hunts lol. Also it happened the opposite to me, I started with Gens and didn't hook me, I instantly dropped it... so my friend told me "You need to play 4U" and oh boy... there is where my journey began, I loved it sooo damn much, I think the narrative was good enough to hook me at first and then I loved the NPCs and the game overall, I then was going to move into XX with a different approach but World was announced and I remember buying a PS4 Pro exclusively for it and played the Beta days nonstop with my friend online feeling like Gaijin said "This was the best time to be a Monster Hunter fan"

Switching over to PC for iceborne was probably perfect timing as pretty much everything was superseded and ive met some good people whom I play with regularily now, in fact I would not have played as much as I have without them. My first monster hunter game was 4 Ultimate. I remember actually getting it as part of a 4 pack of games for Christmas, but it quickly ended up being my favorite 3DS game of all time. It was so thrilling to play, each new monster was like this insurmountable wall and each one felt incredible when I beat them. That was the only game in the series I actually had a lot of friends to play it with (I couldn't get into world cause of it being on a home console and GU was harder to find people still playing), but I can't wait to experience that again with a new monster hunter on switch.

Personally wasn’t a fan of the “portable” age of monster hunter. Mainly because it’s a fast pace action game on a tiny little hand held. Also I started with monster hunter 3 so I was way more used to playing it on a console. But My patience seems to have paid off.

I am quite new, just started with World on the PC, but immediately became enamored with everything the franchise represents and embodies. I needed to get something I could play on the fly since I need to travel a lot, so Generations Ultimate for the switch fit like a glove. It was kinda hard to not become overwhelmed by all the stances and options in GU being new to the game, but it is a magnificent entry in the series, and I just wish I could have had the time or the platforms back then to try some of the older entries. Truly an awesome community to be a part of!
