Great to see more people restoring these. I have an 86 XL600R which I'm currently rebuilding the engine in. I only just discovered through the rebuild process it actually has the XR600 engine with the dual carb setup retained the same as yours. It is the same situation here in Ireland for parts and it is next to impossible to find spares. I was luck enough to acquire a donor bike through a chance encounter which has proved invaluable for spare parts. Looking forward to part 2, subscribed!
Also welcomed two of these not long ago: - 1983 frame with no motor but works for spare parts and carb, - 1987 with bad sounding fork (when pushin it), engine runs for a moment until it starts sounding weak (turns hot?) and stops. Am gonna try to check the valves and clean the carbs. Glad to see someone working on one oh these today!
Might be a crack in the cylinder head. We had the same problem when my brother was rebuilding his 95 XR250. Found out that there was a tiny crack between an exhaust port and the sparkplug hole. We had to look for a different head after that. Hopefully yours is something fixable. Good luck on your project. 👍
Ive done the swing arm swap, rear disc brake set up on my 84 xl600r and love it! easy to do,everything bolts on,a little welding, and yahooooo rear disc brakes! looks nice works....pretty good....
Very nice job mate! Will be looking forward to part 2! I have to say i fell in love with the XL line, so i replaced my commuter yamaha dt50 with a Honda Xl125S. I am irresponsible with money as always but hey, i only live once.
Glad I found this video.... I'm thinking about buying a xl600 but it looks a little too old style wise. Do you know of any restyle kits available for this machine
Does someone know if the Arrow pipe for the XR can be installed in a XL 600 LM? It’s driving me crazy to find a cool and proper exhaust for my XL. Arrow makes the reference 72006 PD but they can’t guarantee it can be installed on the XL
It might but you will need to modify the mounts to make it fit perfectly. I tried an XR rear fender on my running XL600 one time and it didn't look good.
Recently found this channel after I recently bought a 1987 Honda xl600 and I'm glad I found this video.
Congratulations on the new to you XL600! 👍👍

Nicely Done! Subscribed!

Not sure about the XL600 but the XR model has body kit from ALOOP Offroad.
Where's part two?
Could a XR 650 (with electric start) motor be installed on an XL600 bike?
I don't see any reason why it won't. The 650L motor looks exactly the same as the kick only XR600R one.

What tires are you using? Im doing the same on my xl185
I haven't finalized my build yet. But 'im thinking of using Shinko 705s for on road and dirt road duties.
Any updates?
Thanks for asking. The bike is currently in a different shop getting something done. Stay tuned. 😉
Will xr side cover and rear fender fit on xl600

Thank you 🙏
