    Just inherited a 1984 XL 600R from my mom's ex-husband when he passed. He parked it in 1998 and it's sat in a garage since. Can't wait to get her back on the road. When I do, I'll be sure to post clips of it!

    As owner of 85 and 87 XL600R's, yes they're bulletproof. Summer of 22 I finally decided to fire my 87 after 8 years sitting in corner of garage. I was 15-18 kicks into it and breaking a sweat. Till I checked the plug wire. Got that clicked on properly then it fired immediately, on 8 year old stale gasoline. (ethanol free). Even though wife and in-laws think it's not a good idea to move this bike from North America to Philippines, I intend to make the attempt. Particularly after winter of 22/23 I completely restored this machine from the frame up, I consider it not replaceable. Hope this retirement plan works out cause I'd hate to spend $10000+ USD equivilent on some bike there that doesn't mean the same to me in sentimental terms. Not near Cebu but certainly hope to see you there if I go on a tour. We're up in Pangasinan or at least we will be when we retire. Wouldn't mind being in touch, specially if you have any tips on importing my 87 to Philippines!

      Hey that would be cool! I hope you do get your bike over. Importing a vehicle is a painful task especially if you do it yourself. You need an import/customs broker to make things a lot easier.

    Awesome video. I bought my 1983 xl600r a month ago before shipping out to bootcamp. It’s in California and I’m in Florida for school. I’m thinking of shipping out here because it is a fantastic bike.

    I got Xr600r in Russia. I bought it totally engine dead, rebuilt, fucked up with piston-cyl spacing, totalled it hard again, found another bike for donor, rebuilt it again and since then had my best time riding ever. Drive it only off-road.
    Now I'm about to resurrect the donor, found all the parts, which is not easy in Russia with sanctions and all the stuff.
    Before that I had crf250r, same 45 hp, but the difference is unreal! No replacement for displacement.
    Theese old big bore farts are the best!!!

    @papimiami1938 Рік тому

    Thanks bro! giving me inspiration to finish my 1987 xl600r that I got out of a barn and it hasn't ran in 22 years.... Btw I read in the comments how you change to a newer master cylinder and caliper off a 250. where did you source those parts, if I can ask ? The original owner of the bike said one of the main reasons he quit riding it is cuz the brakes are so poor( that and A LOT of other things)

    • @TheManoy66
      @TheManoy66  Рік тому

      I got those parts from a local store. The master cylinder is a chinese made universal replacement part and the caliper as well but specific for an XR250. So far they work perfectly and have not failed me yet. The steel braided hose i got made from a local hydraulic supply. You could check out amazon or aliexpress for those parts as well, you'd be surprised to find some there. Also, some parts for the XR650/250/400 fit the XL600 like brake rotors, hubs, bearings, oil filter.

    • @papimiami1938
      @papimiami1938 Рік тому

      @@TheManoy66 good to know about the aftermarket because OEM is virtually non existent! The man I bought it from put crazy amounts of money in the bike ( big bore, big valves,hot cam ect ect) but lost interest when the ignition ,carbs ,and brakes were never quite right . He said the brake were very scary and definitely not up to the task. I rebuilt the factory caliper and master cylinder and had a braided brake line made for me out in California. But they still don't seem to be working as well as they should!

      @@papimiami1938 one upgrade you could do is swap the stock swingarm and hub for an XR650L unit. I saw someone here who did it and he said its a direct bolt on.

    Nice bike! I have been doing adventure riding for 4 years now on an extremley underpowered simson. Just got a mint condition xl600 to get on "grown up" bike finally. Any advice for an unstable ilde?

    • @TheManoy66
      @TheManoy66  Рік тому

      Congratulations on your new bike!
      I would recommend cleaning your carbs and getting those jets cleared up. Mine is prone to gumming up especially when i leave it in storage. Make sure you drain the fuel in the carb if you plan on not riding it for awhile. Would also be a good idea to get your valves inspected if they are still within specified clearances.
      If those do not work, get your CDI checked or replaced. I had a 1988 XLR250 that had a faulty unit that caused unstable idling and erratic power delivery.
