mls teams are selling because their hand has been forced. young mls players have shown that if you don't sell them abroad they are willing to turn down contracts. pepi and other fc Dallas players are being sold because before them there was Kellyn Acosta who had many offers that fc Dallas turned down and then a guy named Weston mckennie came along and saw that and decided not to sign a hg deal and was willing to bet on himself. Theres guys like gio Reyna and Richie ledezma and uly llanez etc that followed that same pathway to varying degrees of success which forced mls clubs to reevaluate how they do business. if the threat of not signing wasn't there mls teams would be holding on to the young talent and that's what the young Mexican players need to do as well. a few players leave on a free and have success in Europe will cause some of the other young promises in Mexico to do the same and then the clubs will adjust.
Pepi went for $20 million because FC Dallas have established themselves as a known producer of young talent. Weston McKennie, Jonathan Gomez, Justin Che, Chris Richards, Bryan Reynolds, Reggie Cannon, Tanner Tessmann. FC Dallas are an outlier. Daryl Dike going for $10 million is more realistic in terms of what LigaMx teams should look at.

What the guy who is opposite of Herc forgets is one major thing. Teams will pay top dollar for potential, it’s not a difficult concept to understand. Yes, European teams could pay a lot of money, but the teams in Mexico over value their players. In Pepi’s case it’s a situation where Augsburg sees a lot of potential, both on and off the field and Dallas was more than happy to take that money.

I would love if North American football got to the point where staying in Liga MX or MLS was a competitive choice, but that isn't where we are right now in the world. If you got to a point where North and South American teams had their own champions league/europa/conference league setup and it was just a matter of if you wanted to play in the Americas or Europe, then I'd be so happy. But we aren't there and we won't be there for a long time. You think Argentina or Brazil prefer selling their best young players to Europe instead of growing their domestic leagues? I'm guessing not, but they still do it because that's the reality of world football right now.
What the guys on the left doesn’t understand is that the MLS has not sold high until this year. Here are some transfer examples to Europe so the bigger picture is understood. McKennie: Free Gio Reyna: Free Chucky Lozano: 13.75 million Cristian Pulisic: Free Edson Alvarez: 16.5 million Diego Lainez: 15.4 million Why would European teams invest 10+ million on unproven players when they can get the same for free? Argentina and Brasil performed better at World Cups when large parts of their squads were domestically produced. Since Brasil's victory in 2002, between the two teams, only two semi-finals and a final have been reached. Those later squads had far heavier concentrations of players based in top European leagues. In the four World Cup preceding 2002, between the two teams were 4 semifinals and 4 finals.
Incorrect and many Mexicans make the same ill context argument. The level of Europe has only increased since the late 90s and the difference between it and the rest of the world has gotten wider since then at the club level. 98 was essentially the last world cup teams could realistically get away with playing mostly domestic players. In 2002, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay had most of their players in Europe and the shift towards selling had already taken place. It's not easy to win the World Cup and has gotten harder since the middle class of world football has gotten stronger at developing players.
@@AndrewLaReal Wrong. Those later Brazilian and Argentine players have been at the very best teams in Europe.
