How WONDERFULLY creative...and easy....( no chatter...just instructions :)...Very nice music as well..>THANKS sooooooooo much....Will visit your channel....daily..... ; )
what a beautiful idea i have a beloved old bible that was gifted to me in the eighties with a worn out binding i'm afraid to use anymore for fear of destroying it further. thank you for the encouragement.
And I ask myself why I didn't think of that very simple way of binding my junk journals! Love your method, I will definitely try this very soon. Loved all your work! tfs
I just purchased a faux leather "pirate" journal with ring binders. I searched on alternatives and found this. I plan on replacing the binder and adding this type of binder for watercolor paper. (large pieces of watercolor paper cut down to fit the journal). Thank you for showing this wonderful concept!
I'm doing a journal for my up and coming trip and seeing this has given me an idea, once I'm back home, to make something like this, perhaps even using papers/maps l souvenir along the way..l can then re-write snippets into it...it will be a good excuse to keep an eye out in second hand shops for hardcover books on my journey..
I didn't read aaaaall the comments, I have to admit, so maybe I'm saying something that was said before, but here's a tip: When you use glue instead of tape, it is important to use the glue on the paper, not the cover. The glue adds humidity to what you apply it to, so adding it to the paper will make it a little "wavy", but it will shrink down again when the humidity evaporates and there'll be no "blisters". If you apply the glue to the "stronger" side of the pair, the opposite will be the case - the result will not be even/flat. And now for something that has definitely been said before: Great tutorial!! Thanks so much. Can't believe I didn't discover this earlier. It's strange to have no sound, but I have to say I quite like it. It is easier to catch a certain instruction going back and forth when it's there in writing. Keep up the good work!
I created my very first ever, Junk Journal using this method and I love it!!! Thank you so much for posting this video. It was very easy to follow and I found it of extreme great quality. Thanks a bunch!!!
EphemerasGarden I posted some pics of my journal. Thank you so much for the video. I was really nervous and I believe my journal came out better than I could have hoped for. I'm really thankful to you and my friend Sheri who referred the video to me as a suggestion. I also posted some pics of it at the end of my most recent post to my blog. Both have posts on G+ you should be able to easily find. Big Hugs!! Reeah.
Hello! I made my first junk journal today & was stressing about how I was going to bind the signatures in. You took all my stress away! Your tutorial was very easy to follow. I love the way my journal came together. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for this post - I enjoyed it so much and learned a lot. This form of binding seems fairly straightforward to someone who is VERY nervous about making her first JJ, and it's the one I'll probably start with, thanks to you.
Beautiful! I can’t believe I never found this binding before!!! I just saw another video using this method and they led me to you! This is so simple, but so brilliant! I can’t wait to try it for myself! I’m super excited!
wow that is the best tutorial I have ever seen .really !!! I have had so much trouble binding as I do not sew and have bent so many needles .lol.but I really think I can do this .thank you so so much for sharing this .I was getting so frustrated @ trying the binding thing and only do altered books because of it . cannot wait to try this out .AWESOME : )
LOVE your journal....beautiful as always. I am really looking forward to trying one. Your tutorial is wonderful.... Thank you for sharing what you do with us, it is so appreciated!!
Your Journal is Gorgeous!!! I Love the way you embellished the pages with the printables and ephemera to add special touches....Just a Beautiful Journal!!! Great tutorial on the binding method also!!! TFS Patti
Thank you so much Patti, I'm always looking for quick and easy ways to bind books so that I can spend more time on the parts of these projects that I enjoy!
I have been stressing the sewing of my first junk journal.. it doesn't look hard but I'm worried I'll mess up ya know what I mean... But I see this video and it is the most abosolute easiest one so far.. it reminds me of the travelers notebooks.. makes so much sense.. and you can always add more if needed...
I've been wanting to make my own junk journal, but I haven't tried because I was stuck on how to bind it. I didn't want to use ring binding, but the sewn binding seemed so complicated to me. Thank you so much for making this tutorial! This is exactly what I needed. I'm going to give this a try.
What a beautiful journal! Along with the music it was just like so peaceful I have already watch the video twice so now it looks like I'm going to have to make one thank you again for this video!
Wow!! I love this!! Was wanting to make art journal out of bunch of different papers card and book pages and this would be JUST the thing....i could take pages out to collage, paint, color, draw etc and slip them back in!!
Hola, Ephemera! Lo realicé con éxito, pero al usarlo se fueron aflojando los papeles más pequeños. Resolví el problema con una gota de cola...¡No se movió más y quedó prolijo y hermoso! Gracias por tu tiempo y va un abrazo desde Argentina!
Do you mean fabric strips? It could work, but keep in mind that it will sit in the fold of the paper sections inside your book, adding thickness there. It's always good to experiment with the supplies you have and this style is easily tried and tested. Happy crafting! :)
Thank you! This is a wonderful video. I enjoyed the quiet music, and everything is very clear. I've made journals similar to this. I first read about twine binding about 30 years ago when it was used in an archives to bind old manuscripts, so I had the basic idea. I made the mistake of trying to wrap the twine around the signatures and the binding at the same time. That didn't work out nearly so well.
Great tutorial. I am just finishing my very first journal, & I'm planning to use the Pamphlet stitch to bind it, but I would certainly like to use this on another journal in the future, so thank you. Great papers too.
Omg this is awesome I don't like the stich binding looks to hard for me to do so this tutorial has made me so happy as I'm a beginner I have been watching tutorials for 2 months now I still don't think I can do the stich binding so this is what I'll be doing 1st them I'll try the stitching one this is so easy and simple thanks so much I'm excited now going out soon to buy the book and supplies I don't have to start
Well after watching your video...I need to pull out some books and try this....thanks for sharing and making it look simple...lol! Your book is beautiful!! Hugs Noel♥
Really beautiful Debbie! I think i'm so inspired to do this now. I've got some gorgeous papers that would be just wonderful in this. Thank you for always providing us with great inspiration! ~ leslie
Just watched your vid. And it's fantastic, I so love the imagines, I also was waiting for audio, but that's ok. I was more in tune to watching and got more because of it. So GREAT. Love and Hugs
superbe,j 'ai pleins de souvenirs en vrac dans une boîte, je sais maintenant comment les travailler et les assembler, et votre système est pratique pour l'ordre chronologique car on peut déplacer les modules. Merci pour ce tutorial.
+Tania Smith Ok well if you're using the twine binding they're removable and not actually sewn in so any tricky deco can be done before or after. I personally bind first and then deco after. Except for stamping, which I do when pages can be laid flat on a hard surface - makes a better stamp impression. I've got a great new info site you'll want to browse and you can even ask your questions there: www.vintagejunkjournals.com/. It's packed with info for newbies to jj's and lots more to come. Would love to see you there :)
Love this... no talking easy instructions and movements!❤👍
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! 😊
Such an interesting idea, sliding the pages into the book instead of wrapping everything at one time. thanks for sharing.
Best tutorial ever! No seeing and fuss and more time for the fun stuff and still as beautiful and functional!
I use this as a beautiful and inspirational reference...keep coming back to it. Thank you for keeping this post accessible.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoy it!

Great! Please share when you're done :-)
Would thin but sturdy material work as well as the string. You have solved my "ever present challenge" of a spine. Thank you
