  • The three defendants in the Ahmaud Arbery murder case are scheduled for court Friday morning. You can watch it in the player above at 10 a.m. ET. The Law&Crime Network’s Brian Buckmire will host live coverage.
Gregory McMichael, 64, son Travis McMichael, 34, and neighbor William Bryan, 50, are accused of chasing down the victim in a tragic confrontation on Feb. 23 in Brunswick, Georgia.
The question before the court is: Is this murder? Prosecutors and attorneys for Arbery’s family say yes. The McMichaels chased the victim in a Ford F-150, while Bryan drove a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, authorities said. Bryan filmed while father and son confronted the 25-year-old Arbery, and Travis shot the victim with 12-gauge shotgun, according to the indictment obtained by Law&Crime.
At the time of the killing, Gregory McMichael allegedly told police that they believed Arbery was involved in several burglaries in the area. But there was only one reported burglary in the area in recent weeks: a January 1 alleged theft in which a gun was stolen from a pickup truck outside Travis McMichael’s home.
911 audio from shortly before the shooting showed a caller reporting a black man in a white T-shirt at a nearby house under construction.

I find it very troubling that a person can be mentally ill by a nurse that became mental health nurse by ticking boxes on a computer, and by an NP...both only had a 2mins appointment...
It takes a qualified Psychiatrist months and months of appointments to make a diagnosis..
What if he only had a problem with law enforcement as they are only bring up when he was angry with the police....4 witness were 4 law enforcement...
So he's had 3 bad days in 3 years makes him mental ill..WoW!...
Actually if they want to go down the route he had an mental illness,I find it even worse they chanced down and kill a mentally ill person ..as a mental ill person would be more scared of 3 men chancing him with guns...they would have made his mental issues thousand times worse, they would have put I'm in a mental health crisis...

This is a pre trial hearing were both defence and prosecution state to judge what they want or plan to present at trial their evidence the judge then decides on what he will agree can be presented after considering both sides arguments often based on previous trials. It is obvious that the route the defence is hoping or planning to use in trial is to portray the victim as mentally unstable that has previously been arrested for having a firearm and shop lifting and is known to police as aggressive they are doing this to say that he was shot in self defence . The prosecution is doing her best to say this is not relevant to the case in hand and the only evidence that be allowed be that of evidence of what happened on the day he was shot dead! We can only hope that the Judge sees Reason and sides with the prosecution as it is my honest belief that the defence is desperately trying to portray the victim in such a bad light that a jury would be very lenient and if found guilty given a light sentence! These guys were so clearly trying to protect their neighborhood and a criminal attacked them leading to his death. This whole thing is a terrible miscarriage of justice.

I’m sorry but who in their RIGHT MIND chooses to attack someone holding a shotgun, unless they are 1000% certain it’s a do or die scenario?
It should have been totally evident based on the facts of what occurred that these nuts were not out to kill him (at least to anyone rational and of average or higher intelligence )
Their decision to take the law into their own hands and threaten, attempt to detain using firearms is what they will likely be found guilty of leading to Ahmaud’s death.
But the truth also exists that Ahmaud’s mental health also played a large role in what ultimately caused the action which resulted in Travis having no choice but to defend by shooting Ahmaud…otherwise obvious risk of being shot if Ahmaud was successful in removing Travis’s shotgun.
I’m really surprised how many don’t comprehend that two things can be true here.

Since they were claiming that they were carrying out a citizen's arrest, Mr. Arbery's mental health was irrelevant. Whether his actions when "trapped like a rat" the defendants own words were affected by his mental health was irrelevant since they were responsible for him being in that position initially. I am glad the jury was able to see that.
