- Decisions, decisions for Barry on this trip out on the North Sea on the Lynsey B. Does he put his gear outside in safer water or does he risk it by putting it inside?
Jeff was actually home for a week after three overseas business trips and was all prepared join Barry for a day of filming. However, Barry forgot to get Jeff’s skins out of the shed - d'oh. However, all was not lost as Jeff was able to get the drone up in the air for the start and the finish of the day.
Another great vlog Barry, realy great shots with the drone Jeff, beautiful colours of the sky and sea.
If gulls were lobsters you'd be a millionaire, yes you're pretty well boxed in there. I loved the close ups off the lobsters, realy great.
For Petes sake couldn't believe it casting lines as you were coming in, that's realy scarey, just unbelievable
I was down yesterday, a nice day spoiled by the wind ,
Hi Anne.
As always, thank you so much for your wonderful comment and support 😍😁👌
Yeah, I couldn't believe that guy either.
I asked him not to cast until we had got that shot coming into the harbour with the drone ( which Jeff had already explained)
Then the idiot did it again as I was leaving the harbour to turn around.😱🙈🙄🙄🙄🙄
Some folks have no sense or common decency 😡.
Anyway, their was a small swear word or two muttered under my breath🙈🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm so sorry you had a windy visit, but at least it was better than your visit before last 🙈😞
Hope you andmum have a wonderful weekend.
All the very best.
Baz.😉👍
Good morning big man, what a lovely morning to be alive my friend.

Hi buddy.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. 😍😁👌
We certainly work well as a team, as long as one of the team members remembers Jeff's oil skins🙈😱🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have a great weekend, bud.
All the best 😉👍
Hello Baz, a day late for me as I had to work yesterday. Love the drone footage! It's a shame that the lobster numbers weren't what you would have liked to see. Here's to better days my friend. Thanks for sharing your dy with us all.
Hi Terry.
I hope work wasn't too taxing.🙈😬😬😬😉👍

Hi Henry.
Yeah, that's fishing for you.🦞🙈🤣🤣🤣
Just so you know, it was a good call putting the gear back inside, ended up with 45 🦞 the next day😁👌🤣🤣🤣
All the best, bud.😉👍
@@onemanandhisboat That is what a great fisherman is all about. Follow the gut feeling and reap the rewards. In my job before I retired, I did the same 90% of the time it was right, the other 10% we do not talk about hahahaha……
Barry another great vlog 👍 thanks for sharing not so many lobsters 🦞🦞🦞🦞🦞🦞 this trip well that's the luck of fishing Johno Darwin NT
Hi Johno.
As always, thank you so much for your kind comment.😍😁👌
Yeah, that was definitely a fishing day, not very lobbies at all.😞
All the very best, bud.
Baz.😉👍
I'm a Geordie and I understand you well enuff pal
Thank you so much, Bill.😍😁👌
Have a great weekend.
All the best.😉👍
We used to use zippy ties for a quick fix if holes were not to big
That's also a thought, Alan.
Just so you know the peg trick works very well indeed, I'm a bit upset that I had so many holes in my gear, but at least the peg method helps me find them quickly when they come back on board the next day.😁👌
All the best, bud.
Baz 😉👍
@@onemanandhisboat my fishing days are long gone getting to long in the tooth
Another beautiful sunrise, shame not so many lobsters 🦞 Barry. Tough day for a fisherman.
Hi Richard.
Yeah, it always the same with fishing, we can't catch them all the time, plus I think that South Easter hurt them a little bit.🙈
But what a beautiful morning, though😍❤️😁👌
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
All the very best.
Baz.😉👍
They should have some sort of GPS on the end pots that you could share with the rest of the fishmen to know where the pots are so you could tell if you are about to fish over someone's else's pots I know you have the flags but you could miss one end and then plus you could tell if the others fishmen were all out to sea or closer to home
That's a good theory.
However, the practicality of GPSing every flag end would cost the fishermen so greatly that it would finish their business.
We can work out, who goes where and what ground it covers, but sometimes, the men have no respect for each other, and they just shoot the gear of how they want.
A better idea would be to manage the fisheries like the Aussies.
Each boat has a maximum amount of gear ( none greater than the other)
But the fishermen actually get a proper price for their lobsters, so their is no need for all this greed, and disrespect towards the fishermen from governments, buyers, and even the tree huggers, as the fishery is managed sustainably, and at the end of the day, that's what all fishermen want.
Is a good fishery, and money in the bank, after all that's why we work as hard as we do.😁👌
Anyway, I hope that makes sense🙈🤣🤣🤣
Have a great weekend.
All the best.
Baz.😉👍
Some days arnt as good as others Barry, however life goes on and hopefully your next trip makes up for it.
Have the lobster catches been getting less over the past few years or is it because lobstermen are putting more creels into the sea?
I know shore fishing here in Northern Ireland has deteriorated on a large scale over the past 5 years and that is down partly to the big trawlers cleaning up everything in their path.
I would be concerned of the sustainability in everything we do in this current climate even as a vegetable growerfor my own needs it gets harder each year.
Anyway Barry best wishes on your next trip and take care 👍
Hi Peter.
That is very true about my catch sir..not every day is a good day😁👌🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, catches will always go down when an area is over fished, and we are seeing that here now.
I feel sorry for all the Irish fishermen just now..the EU is doing to you exactly what they done to us in the 90's and like you our government had their greasy hands in the EU's back pocket.
But what will they do when they hoover up everything..industrial fishing is so bad it breaks my heart to see, maybe one day, man will see sense, but that's not going to happen for a long time yet.😞
All the best.
Baz😉👍
Hi Barry, great video. I understand everything you say as I, too, speak English! Maybe those that don't should learn!!🤣
Hi Pete.
That actually shouldn't have been in the vlog, Jeff and I always have a wee joke about the people that don't understand the Scottish accent 🙈🤣🤣🤣
Looks like this one backfired on me🙈🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for your comment and support.
Have a great weekend.
All the best.
Baz.😉👍
I fished with an old skipper one time and he could tell you when a storm was coming because the crab and lobster weren't moving, he always said that they were sticking to the ocean floor until the storm moved on and he was always always right.
Hi John.
You have to listen to the old timers, as they've seen and done it all ( including the mistakes)
Which to me deserves all the respect that they are due because it can take a lifetime to learn.😁👌
Thank you so much for your kind comment and support.
All the best.
Baz😉👍
What's that old saying Barry, A bad days fishing, is better than a good days working. 🍻
🤣🤣🤣
You're so right, Neil.
I'd rather be out here than stuck in an office in a city somewhere 😍😁👌🦞🦞🦞🦀🦀🦀😁👌
@@onemanandhisboat Which is why you do it, and why we watch 👍
Sorry to hear about the other bad news, theiving scrotes need a proper lesson, too much of it about 🤬
Barry why doesn't the government declare an open season on those pesky Gulls? I live down south and every time I visit the seaside I'm not safe buying a takeaway fish 'n chips without the pesky birds trying to steal it! I noticed at frame 28:50 a Gannet swimming alongside - usually a diving bird, but having to scavenge scraps, times must be tough on them as well!
Hi bud.
Yeah, that would be nice, wouldn't it.
I mean, years ago, they would be controlled.
But these days, the government is ruled by tree huggers, and they can't be seen making laws against nature ( until it suits them, of course)
It's the same with the seal population, and they wonder where all the salmon and inshore fish have gone!🤷♂️🙈😱😱😱😱 up to 40kg of fish a day they need to survive, and they have no predators in these waters...it beyond belief sometimes 🙈🙄🙄🙄
Anyway, have a good weekend.
All the best.
Baz.😉👍
What time did you go out at Baz? The videos are fantastic
Hi Mark.
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
It all depends on the season on when I leave to fish.
Being a traditional fisherman, I like to leave for 1st light.
Over the last few weeks, 1st light is becoming later and later. I'm not keen on this time of year coming.🙈🤣🤣🤣
All the best.
Baz.😉👍
Good morning Barry, do you eat lobster yourself, and if so what is your favourite way of eating your prime catch. Great vlog. I should be getting up, but I'm busy watching your latest episode.
Good morning, Garry.
Get out your pit, lad!🤣🤣🤣
But what no better way than to have a lay in than watching another episode of OMAHB🤣🤣🤣🤣😁👌
Glad you enjoyed the vlog.😉👍
I very rarely have lobster, but when I do, it has to be a lovely lobster salad, drenched in homemade thousand island sauce....aaaahhhh, bliss🦞😍😁👌🤣🤣🤣
Have a great weekend, champ.
Cheers.
Baz.😉👍
great video as always m8 got a question tho how did you get on with your enquiry into diversifying your catch ?
Hi Lee.
Thank you so much for your kind comment and question.
At the moment I haven't had the time, money or the energy to pursue a change in fishery, as the costing would be too great at the moment.
They fisheries office is ready to help, but I haven't had the time to go speak to them as yet.
It's just a busy time of year just now, and will stay like this until October 🙈😁👌🦞🦞🦞🦞
I hope that answers your question. 😁👌
All the very best.
Baz.😉👍
@@onemanandhisboat The reason I ask m8 I know from my time diving for scalloped and crawfish (spiny lobsters) they seemed pretty plentiful and hand-dived scallops we used to get a good price, of course, was years ago now but I wondered what you might diversify your catch wish you all the best tho m8 line caught bass or john dory is all a high price catch too all the best and more power to your elbow baz
@leecollins3592 aye Lee.
That was they plan, but this year's hit with weather and now catch, we certainly haven't got the finances for such a diversification as yet..the way things are going, we might be joining the band wagon and selling up.
Time will tell though.
Thank you for your comment and advice.
All the very best.😉👍
@@onemanandhisboat aww m8 i hope not but sometime you just have to roll the dice another we used to do was set lay lines basic items a washing line or rope 3 battens 5 foot long every 12 inches a trace with a baited hook set while tide is well out and left for tide to come in covering it you wait until tide goes out again and take the catch and re bait a popular shore method in wales and up in the north of Scotland between the battens should be roughly 14 feet anything from 12 foot anyway never know might supplement your normal catch even if its only bait fish for the creels anyway m8 as always stay safe and take care
@leecollins3592 thank you Lee.😍😁👌
👍
Thank you.😍😁👌
Hi Sir. How deep do you put the pots
Hi Oskar.
We fish our pots from 1.5 fathom to 18-20 fathom. 😁👌🦞🦞🦞
That all depends on how bad the forecast is and how long it's going to last, the worse the forecast the deeper the pots, mind you sometimes at this time of year we chase the lobster out into the deeper water as that's their migrational March.
I hope that answers your question. 😁
All the very best.
Baz.😉👍
What do you fish in the winter?
Hi David.
Thank you for your comment and question.
It's lobsters and crab all year round, as we don't have much else of a fishery in these parts.😞
I hope that answers your question.
All the best.
Baz.😉👍
I guess the water is too cold for oysters to naturally spawn?
No theirs clam beds out there.
It's just the expense of getting the creels to fish them, they are 2 times more expensive than a normal creel.🙈
@@onemanandhisboat it’s all a gamble.. isn’t it.
@davidmessick1551 oh, it certainly is. Every decision we make can make or break a business, especially when it comes to winter time🌊🙈😁👌
hi bazza
Hi Neil.😁👍
