I have 11 zippos. Most have a wolf theme and I've got a couple from different events. I like that they are affordabe, USA made, and they have an ingenious simple design that just works.

Thanks for posting. The Zippo my dad carried for half a century dates to 1948-50. And it looks like it - finish mostly gone, a few dents and dings. But, it fires right up every time! I’m glad to have it and the memories attached to it.

My dad died when I was 17. I don’t collect zippos (I may though) His zippo is one of the few items I have from him. It’s your basic no frills standard zippo. I need to get it working again. I’m going to date it though. Has to be pre ‘96. I assume 80’s or early 90’s. Edit: It’s post ‘81 pre ‘95 so far. This has an A to the left and a V to the right. I’m assuming that means 1989! This is so cool! Thank you for the video. His lighter means so much to me and something I can use .. 22 years to the day last Wednesday. Never gets all that much easier. Especially when you have a son of your own and he asks about the strange guy in photos and your memories flood back and want to do everything your dad did with you. He had a cheap folding camping knife I can’t find. I’m so bummed. Knives and zippos... one of the few things he had left. How funny is that.

Peter E. You could take it to an engraving shop and have them put something on it real nice like a saying they have many many things they could put on a blank Zippo box I have one of those old aluminum cigarettes case's that would hold a soft pack of cigarettes I don't know how many people offered to buy it off of me over the year's I can imagine how much it's worth now that smoking is band almost everywhere now it's just a collectors item now because they don't make to many cigarette related item's any more so anything you find related to smoking people are looking to pick it up and buy it even old magazines that show people smoking match books with advertisement

Thanks for this! I have a Zippo which appears to never have been fired, with flame box & booklet included. The box has yellowed with age, but otherwise all in very good shape. Thanks to your video I know it's from 1974, so I was 2 years old when this was made! Very cool.

I have a small collection. Mostly US NAVY. I have a Trader Horn model from a discount store that is not around any longer. They always had Zippo lighters at a 20% discount. When they went out of business, the discount was 50% or more. I got a Hollywood star edition and it is still in the original package. I don't smoke but just loved the lighters. I enjoyed your information.

Wow, my dad used Zippo's since I can remember. Most likely carried one during the war. I'm in my late 60's. I never knew all the cool info you have provided. I learned today my Zippo was made in May of 2013. I go to flea markets from time to time, will dang sure be looking for vintage Zippo's. Never even thought about this stuff. Thanks Brother for your video.

I'm not into collecting, but I've found you through your old video from 2011, I think, Have Flint, Wick, gas but my zippo not lighting. My issue was different then what you described in those videos. Apperantly if you tighten the screw too much on flint it won't light up either. I did everything from your video then cleaned mine up and I forgot to put the screw all the way back in and it started working flawlessly :D

My brother recently went to Pennsylvania and I gave him my zippo to take with him. Bc he was going to be right by the zippo outlet.
I don't know what the insert was I gave him, but it seemed off when he brought it back.
There was nothing wrong with the insert, I just needed the hinges tightened up.
When he brought it back, it felt...
    Off...
This was a zippo I had used, day in and day out for a long time.
Now I see the insert is now from March 2016. I'm not sure when the insert I gave him was from. But now I'm a little pissed. 2016 insert with a 1971 case?!
    Fuck!

Very interesting video! I like this. I have my Uncles - he was a Vietnam vet and had a zippo engraved with his service. My Dad died in service when I was a child and long story short, I grew up at my aunt and uncles. He gave me his zippo for my 17th birthday and I'd always wondered how you can find a date for those. I'm older (rounder and greyer😂) now and still have it today. Had a smoke outside tonight and it works perfect. Very informative video! Nicely done. Thank you 🫡 ✌️

16 years i never done any repair to my Zppo. And it work brilliant no enclosure separation or anything. Always buy genuine zippo fuel wick to topup and flints full pack cost 4euro last for few month. Only what im thinking now to send it for service need clean case a bit i want that it looks shiny as new!! Always use genuine petrol and accessories then this lighter never die. Trust me 16yrs its a long time. Dont waste money to try other cheap fuel or wick, flints. Fuel smell as fuck< wick burnout i cant say about flints never tested them. If You get Zippo spend just bit more to enjoy best lighter on the market with lifetime warranty....

I've got an old Zippo that's been in the family since WWII I think, but it's not the crackle finish. I heard the crackle finish was from the Pacific arena. Not sure of that. Based on your video, I'm thinking mine is from 43-48, but how do you really get the exact year ? Are these earlier Zippos always gonna be an "estimate " of the year ? Also, my ancestor somehow attached a German Deutsch mark onto the side. Will this increase or decrease its value ?? Thanks again for this video !

The newer zippo inserts have a bulge on to sides. Because the older inserts was a tight fit and some locked up all together and very hard to remove. The inserts with the rib or bulge are made a little thinner to prevent a stuck insert.

Dear friends.pls anyone to answer me this for some series of Zippos...(sorry for my english),sooo
When holding the lighter on your left hand and the hinge is left, When you rise up to read this name it's upside down. But when you hold it in your right hand the hinge is the to the right, and look down from below the name you read correct. It is not upside down These lighters are for the left-handed and the right ones ???? Do you know why you are like this? I have 42 in my collection and the half is like this zippos....
And some that I have is collectible???in the end of zippo the smal R is above the zipp(o) and to some that I have the (R) is in bottom of the zipp(o)...thanks.

Christos Kyriacou I've wondered what that's about, too. I assume they stamp the bottoms before they braze or weld on the hinges, and aren't particular about which way the case halves go into the brazing/welding jig since they're symmetrical and will function the same way regardless of which direction they're facing. I have Zippos that go both ways, some from the same month and year.

Mine is GXI on the brass case and EXI on the ignition unit. I can’t remember buying it but I have it around 25 years. Maybe I found it in a junk shop.

I unearthed an old Zippo lighter. It's markings aren't like anything on your video. It's silver with an ornate design. It has a 5 barrel hinge and 16 holes. The bottom has Zippo IX, Bradford, PA Made in USA. The word Zippo has a fancy Z, rounded Ps & Is with raised dots in the center. I would appreciate any info on this.
