I actually ahve been having the opposite feeling on playstation.
I was a nintendo/Xbox kid growing up, only having a PS3 shortly from 2012-2013, but recently I have poured alot into my PS5 i got back in 2023.
I believe its largely due to Perona and FF, since at the time FF7 Remake was PS5/Epic Games exclusive, and later Rebirth.
Although i have zero intention on buying the PS5 Pro. No need, and hella expensive.

When they inevitably greenlight a sequel, I really hope they consider implementing more PlayStation IP-themed levels. There’s a lot of awesome potential for unique world-specific game mechanics and stuff, like imagine having to sneak through a Sly Cooper world or win a death race in Twisted Metal!
They need to remember that _Twisted Metal_ exists first.
It's actually kind of appropriate that Johnny's PlayStation vs. video came out during the 20th anniversary and now he's reviewing their 30th anniversary game.

I really love Johnny's vs videos a whole lot and I'm glad this channel is still going strong.
I know people compared this game to Super Mario Galaxy. But I also get Kirby & The Forgotten Land vibe when playing at this game. You got an world map that you can progress to another stage or explore and unlock secret levels like in Forgotten Land, you rescue bots for stage progression and upgrading your hub worlds just like with Waddle Dees, you have limited movesets & power ups for more accessibility just like with Kirby & it's copy ability, there's an gotcha machine and even the first or second boss are an gorilla & an tree. This game is an homage to not just Sony, but 3D platformerimg games that it took inspirations from and it is very nice to see.

This is one of the best platformers I’ve played in a long time and I’m not even super into PlayStation, but still was knowledgable enough to know most of the Bot references

This is probably the most enthusiastic I’ve been over a PlayStation exclusive in a while. Every level was a blast to play through and the game is filled to the brim with polish. I can’t wait to see what team ASOBI does next!

I didnt grew up with Playstation. But seeing some characters that I recognize made me cheer. Especially Nathan Drake as I watched StephenPlays play all 4 games

Astro Bot is a completely legitimate reason for me to finally go out and buy a PlayStation 5...alas, it will still be a long while before I can do so.
But from what I've seen about Astro Bot, it is a 100% pure reminder as to why platformers are my favorite genre of all time, and why I fell in love with gaming.

But in all seriousness, Astro Bot is the perfect celebration of 30 years of Playstation and weirdly enough… I’m surprised Sony beat them to the punch compared to Nintendo (not counting games like Nintendo Land or Smash Bros)
Would an improved sequel to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale also have been a perfect celebration for PlayStation's 30th anniversary or would you prefer Astro Bot in that regard and why?
Had to pause to give my appreciation to the Super Meat Boy "WARP ZONE!" joke, because that was all that went through my head anytime I found one of the hidden portals in this game.

Seeing obscure games like Devil Dice, Intelligence Cube, and Thunder Force V being referenced in some fashion really caught me by surprised. And just seeing *The Legend of Dragoon* here made me smile like a big doofus.

3:29 Trust me, Johnny. A lot of people, including myself, are feeling that way due to the route that AAA gaming has gone down in recent years.
Too much money and time sank into making photorealistic graphics, games taking an eternity to come out.......my dream games all have a 6th gen aesthetic where draw distance, lighting, destructible and interactive environments are prioritized over texture quality and polygon count.
Ape Escape being the first level made me so happy, considering They shut down Japan Studio (Team beheind Ape Escape) Years ago...

When I saw Jaster's bot pop up in the desert I got all emotional. I remember hearing that Batman Beyond voiced the main character way back in the day. I looked all over the place for the game before finding it in a random thrift store. Fell in love with it immediately. Finally got a PS5 earlier this year and the first thing I played was Rogue Galaxy. It was so nice to see Jaster in something new.
I’m a simple man. I see a person dancing to music in a funny manner, and I like.
A part of me believes that the cameo worlds were chosen because of their first party successes on each of the respective PlayStations.
Ps1 had Ape escape, ps2 has God of war, using Dad of War because that’s the latest one, ps3 had Uncharted and ps4 had Horizon. Which is a neat choice honestly, it’s their way of looking back
My brother has absolutely adored Astro since the PS4 VR game and loves this, too. I like it as well, love a good platformer. It also gave me a reason to track down Ratchet and Clank games. Well, the PS2 trilogy and Rift Apart. Damn fun games and just finished Going Commando.

So, this is Astro Bot VR without the VR. I really like the VR because it throws you in such a beautiful world. It would be nice if they update it to work with the VR2.

Good to know I'm not the only one that was expecting Gitaroo Man/U-1 to show up in this game. He's basically the only character (apart from Sweet Tooth I guess) that I was confused by the absence of.
Probably some licensing situation. Looking it up, it seems the owners of Gitaroo Man haven't made any game in almost a decade. So maybe the company is dormant.

The main reason I use a PS5 nowadays is that I prefer controllers over KB+M, and prefer consoles for ease of use on a TV. My Steam Deck has a pretty decent TV mode, but not as foolproof as my PS5 has been. Plus, every once in a while when we get a great exclusive like this, I'm glad the PS5 is there.
I think we all kind of feel the same way as far as find a new console for the first party lineup when the first party lineup is it is grandiose as it all seems to be

Johnny kinda hit the nail on the head with how i feel lately with how Playstation ips function now.
As someone who actually plays a lot of playstations new exclusives. I still love em. But i grew up in the ps2 era and owned every playstation before and after.

But every new one is just kinda blending nowadays. Nothings wrong with hyper graphic third person video games with great stories. But outside of God of War being my favorite series ever. I also like Sly Cooper which has style, i love Gravity Rush that has a beautiful unique look to it along with gameplay. These games used to be unique. But now. Its just very, lets push the graphical limit and nothing more. Theres too many ips collecting dust nowadays for them to ignore.
That's because outside of _Astro Bot,_ when was the last time Sony released a "cartoony" game like _Ratchet & Clank_ for example.

I think I’m the oddball. I don’t think there is a reason for the Xbox. You can get all of that on pc from day one. PlayStation had exclusives. Real exclusives. And astro bot is just amazing.

Whenever I’m on the fence about buying a game, I always check to see what Johnny has to say about it. And after watching this video, I can confidently say that I will be getting my hands on Astro Bot sometime soon.

Astro made me play the Playstation 5, more games like this.
You know John I kinda agree if it weren’t for say Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper and maybe Uncharted I don’t really play many 1st party Sony games. It’s mainly 3rd party stuff like FF, Sonic and Persona. But I can tell that there was a lot of love poured into this game so I do want to get it when either the price drops or the money is right which may be after I finish playing Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
The problem with PlayStation imo is how they just...Drop IP. So many IP just fall to the wayside, I know every company has this problem, but man...If you're a passionate PlayStation fan from any era before the PS4? You can't help but feel out of touch because your series are kind of....Mostly dead, first party wise I stress. Astro is a beautifully crafted game in it's own right, but It's respect of PlayStation's legacy is really appreciated.
Honestly, I think Nintendo could do a game like Astro Bot, since they have so many characters.
Cross over games in general should be something done more, instead of just Smash and a handful of others.

Playstation slowly lost its identity once it moved it's headquarters from Japan to California. Now we have mostly cinematic slop games.
This started with PS3 long before any kind of move took place.
Just missing Sweet Tooth and some Twisted Metal love.

The only downside with this game for me involves some of the Bots. This game is for the 30th Anniversary of the Playstation, Sweet Tooth and Cloud Strife are nowhere to be found, yet we got bots based on characters like Arthur, Ulala, Octodad, and a Fall Guys bean that aren't really associated with the Playstation like most of the other third-party characters are. I'm hoping that with the DLC that'll be coming out that Sweet Tooth and Cloud will be two of the Bots added, because it's a crime that they weren't in the base game.
