So, Crash Bandicoot was the winner of your poll? For some reason, I am NOT surprised, but I AM happy with more PSX love! As for the twitter thing, Don’t worry about it; I’ve got All my favorite games documentaries, favorited! While I’ve got you, what’s the status of the Plants Vs. Zombies and Sly Cooper documentaries?
@@shannonbateswillis5022 Correct! Crash led by quite a large margin as a matter of fact. Both Plants vs. Zombies and Sly Cooper are on my list, but they're not actively being worked on currently as there are other documentaries that I want to get done first. But I'll get around to both of them eventually!
Spyro was the second-most rated game on the poll, but the Gaming Historian has already made a great documentary on the original Spyro trilogy, so I haven't decided yet if I'm going to do Spyro next or something else. Right now it's between Spyro, Age of Empires, Fable, Jak and Daxter and Tomb Raider - as these were among the top choices from the poll.
@@ReliableRhubarb thank you for your honesty; for me, I’d do Fable first because there’s so few well done documentaries on the whole of the series, THEN Spyro and afterwards Jak & Daxter, and for the last one, flip a coin or something! (not a big Tomb Raider and/or Age of Empires fan!) Ps. In your Oddworld documentary, you mentioned that Oddworld Inhabitants once tried to make a RTS game called Hand of Odd. My question is, if they actually did finish it, and released it for a general audience, would you want to buy and/or play it? Me, the answer is yes, and I would LOVE to be a Mudokon Tribal Chief!
A lot of UA-camrs who do these sort of "90's nostalgia gaming recaps" are always rehashing the same information but your videos are truly documentary-tier quality, and you always shed light on some of the lesser-known stories behind the development process. I really enjoy how you thoroughly explore the creative, technical, and business processes of game design. Thank you for doing what you do!
Truly fucking good video. As a programer it's insane how much I'm spoiled with all the available tools while these guys created all this on PS1 from mud and sticks. Keep them up, beautifull stuff.
Took two hours out of my day to watch this and have 0 regrets, i've never seen such a detailed video before, and i almost never comment, so damn, good work and i wish you the best of luck on youtube!
Woah that was intense I just flew in from the new ruins level and boy are my arms tired! Honestly my favorite production fact was in Crash 3, where Dingodile was originally supposed to be breathe fire before being switched to a flamethrower
Wow this documentary was fantastic, I kind of wish we could have seen what Naughty Dog would have done with Crash if Sony tried to buy the rights off of Universal, Playstation having a defined official mascot.
Thanks a lot for this documentary! I had no idea how much Mark Cerny had an impact on developing key features of the game engine. I have watched the Andy Gavin extended interview on Ars Technica and I believe he wasn't mentioned even once.
Been really looking forward to this! I really love your documentaries, they're in depth and clearly a lot of effort has gone into the research and script, it's such a good collections of information from all sorts of places to bring together the fullest story you can, and in the world of many youtube video essays that act only to summarise wikipedia articles it really is a breath of fresh air. You deserve so much more views and subs for your hard work, I hope you get the growth and shares (and patreon support) to be able to keep it up for a long time!
I left a like on this Crash Bandicoot documentary, and I am now commenting it so that the algorithm picks it up eventually. This is a natural interaction between real humans.
I've watched a lot of video documentaries on UA-cam, and after watching a few of your recent uploads, I can say you're one of the best. Criminally underrated. Keep it up!
This whole entire in-depth documentary on Crash Bandicoot by Naughty Dog is nothing short of being absolutely brilliant! I love the whole thing from start to finish, and I would love to see a documentary like this on the PS1 Spyro the Dragon trilogy from Insomniac Games.
When I found out Mothersbaugh was involved with Crash, it put a big smile on my face. His scores to Jump Street and Thor Ragnarok are fantastic. You can recognise so many of those cartoony Crash-like sounds in them.
I can't imagine the amount of time and effort to find and/or create all this footage and sync it up to every topic. Hopefully more ppl find and support you so we can get more masterpieces like this. Would love to see a comparable breakdown for Symphony of the Night, Jet Set Radio or other big Nintendo 64 games.
I'm in agreement with many others; the quality of this documentary is excellent and I'm astonished that you don't have more subscribers... yet! Feels inevitable to me that you'll reach a wider audience in the near future - thanks for all the work you put into this.
Ar king has returned everyone!!! Fab video!! Although crash is one of those games I’ve never really been into u made such an interesting vid about it and it’s rly cool to learn about it and how hard they worked on these games!! Can’t wait to see what’s next and hear ur progress!! Cheers!!
We have to help this dude make more quality content for us. Share the video everywhere possible. Thnx for such an incredible piece of hard and well researched content.
Crash Bandicoot: Warped was the only game out of the original trilogy on the PlayStation that I completed. As everyone knows you need to get 105% complete to get the special ending or whatever you wanna call it. And yea I used help by watching videos on UA-cam but I don't think it's either realistic nor reasonable to expect anyone to get the 105% completion rate WITHOUT them using a guide/help to do so. I did try and go back and play the first game but it doesn't support the use of the joystick because it's so old and I couldn't get used to using the D pad.
Very nice documentary! I really liked this one! I wish this video was just about Crash 1 while 2, 3, and CTR got their own videos of similar length. Crash 2 is my favorite.
Amazing documentary! Although, I was surprised to see no mention of The Wrath of Cortex towards the end. I have fond memories playing that as a kid when it was ported to the Xbox. Thanks for putting this together. I always look at the view count and am surprised it doesn't have hundreds of thousands of views. The quality of your research and editing is astounding and is surely just a matter of time for the algorithm to pick you up.
Thanks! The summary at the end wasn't intended to be a complete list of all the Crash games that came after, I just highlighted a random few that seemed appropriate. I chose to highlight Twinsanity over The Wrath of Cortex, as I felt it better showcased the new direction the series was heading in once Naughty Dog had parted ways with Crash.
So glad you're still producing/creating videos. Came across your channel a couple of weeks back and really liked the content! I noted you hadn't uploaded for 5/6 months and thought you'd finished. Thankfully, this is an instance where im happy to be proven wrong! I appreciate the content, keep em' coming
Yeah, sorry about that! These documentaries can take a long time to make so I typically only put out a few videos each year. This one took longer than usual because of its size. Regardless, I have no plans on stopping any time soon, so rest assured if it's been a while between uploads, it's probably because I'm cooking up something big!
I'm going through some stuff right now. I needed this to distract myself. I loved these games a child. Bought the remaster and got my ass handed to me haha. Still, so many memories as a kiddo playing these games for hours. Freaking out when i rolled the credits and would run to tell my dad. Happy memories. This video was also very informative. I learned so much I never knew about Crash. Particularly liked hearing about all the little programming hacks they used. So cool. Thank you for your hard working making this video. I know it might sound corny, but it really helped me out.
I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time right now. I hope things get better for you in the future! And thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it and that it helped you out!
PUSH THE ALGORITHM!! How do you have under 10K subs. The production quality is top tier. I watch a lot of retrospective videos... but this is amazing. Well done ❤
Crash 3 was so good, considering how short a time they had to develop the game, it's insane how much of an improvement over the previous games it was, although it did have a lot of dna from crash 2, but with a warp hub, instead of rooms like Crash 2, and Crash Bash.
That was good ! First time I ever watched a 2hr anything on UA-cam. Being 38 and played the o.g in its day it’s like a fever dream seeing all this, time was … …….

This is incredibly well polished and in-depth for such a small channel. A well earned like and sub!
I like how you're talking about all the factors of the creation of Crash Bandicoot and not just the gameplay. Great video 👍💯.
I put this on as background noise while I game, 2 hours later and I haven’t even picked up my controller yet. Great video
Such a well researched and deeply informative documentary. Well done, this will certainly be an evergreen video on the history of Crash. Cheers
