This is definitely one of the Top 5 Tone Talk episodes so far! This one was thoroughly enjoyable, funny, educational and a time capsule revelation! Thank You to Jeff, George, Dave and Mark! Exceptional and very fun show! Cheers to you all!
@Tone-Talk Jeff Pilson has got to be one of THEE most amazing multi-talented and multi-faceted musicians that I've ever had the pleasure to work with! Something a lot of people don't know is that Jeff created unequaled Dio history! When he was in Dio on the 2 albums with Tracy-G...as many Dio fans know that on most Dio albums there's mention that "All lyrics and melodies by Ronnie James Dio".....Jeff wrote a song called "Stay Out of My Mind"....and Ronnie loved it so much that Ronnie put it on his album....and it was basically a "Cover Song" of Jeff's song!! That's HUGE! Just thought I'd add that bit of info here! I learned so much from Ronnie....and I gotta say....that the times where Jeff and I were in a band together and writing for that band and all the way up to the DD original stuff.....I learned so much from him ( Jeff ) especially in the song writing department that it completely changed much of how I write songs to this very day! Glad to have seen this!! And during the "Hear n Aid" project for the song "We're Stars" George Lynch scared me into having to go back to the "drawing board" for my playing. I was in the room at one point when George was warming up....I heard him play something that sounded like he was using a wah-wah pedal....so I looked down fully expecting to see that pedal....and there was none! It was his way....his magic and pure one of the world's best that he could basically do the impossible!! It scared me....and I'll never forget it!! So I had to go back to the drawing board and made myself learn how to consciously create "vowel sounds" on command! Before they happened by accident and we just kept them in the recordings from Rough Cutt demos, Giuffria, the band with Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge demos just before joining Dio ...and the Dream Evil album. Thanks Jeff and George for making me a better writer ( Jeff ) and a better player ( George )!!! Just thought people should know!!
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle I agree 1,000 percent. I remember George saying in an interview that Jeff is his writing soulmate. There is a certain magic there that is rare
Sitting here recovering from the China virus and watching these videos. I’m not sure if the lack of breathing is from the laughter or virus! Lol! This one and the Jake E Lee show was freaking awesome!!! Thank you so much for helping me make it through. Keep e’m coming!!!
What a great time. These guys are so much fun. They were even like this with each other on the Unchain the Night VHS. Yeah, I had that when it was out fresh.
Goddamn! I love these interviews. So much great information. I feel like I’m back with my percussion teacher, Phil Stanger and I’m learning about the beginning of drumming etc. dokken and George have been one of my favorites since I began listening to to rock music. Thank you to all of you for your massive contributions. ❤ Matt Chicago.
Michael Wagener (producer Under Lock & Key 1985 ): "The setup for George's guitar tone on "Under Lock And Key" was as follows: We had two Marshall heads and two Laney heads, not sure which models, but one of them was a Plexi. We had cabs in three different rooms: two cabs were placed in the big room at Amigo, one connected to a Marshall, the other connected to the Laney. The Marshall was responsible for the high end part of the sound and the Laney was set to take care of the low end. There were 14 (fourteen) mics set up in that room in various psoitions around the cabinet and some further away to get some room tone. The second Laney was sent into a very dead room and had a Boss chorus pedal in front of it, set to very slight chorus. The second Marshall was sent into a small, tiled bathroom, to add a different room tone. Those 16 mics came in on the MCI 500 console mic pres. They were bussed to one bus and that bus had a UREI 530 EQ on it (best guitar EQ ever). George mentioned that he always gets a great tone with his Fostex 4track recorder when it's in total overdrive, so I asked him to bring it in. So after the 530 everything was sent to the Fostex 4track, which lived under a packing blanket under the console, so nobody would see it. The Fostex was on stunn, completely overdriven and was sent on to the 3M 32 track dig machine from there.
Nice interview, I really enjoyed the fun play on words. George and Jeff seemed really happy and that was very cool.... I once passed George on the floor at a NAMM show inte 90s and his NAMM badge name read "Dirk Diggler" lol
This episode was GOLD!!! Laughed my ass off!!! This had it all, learned some tone and gear stuff and most importantly, we may be growing older, but that doesn't mean we have to grow up!!!
How these two don't have their own show is beyond me. Hilarious duo. They made it feel like Dave and Marc were the guests. Best episode by a country mile.
Awesome show guys, definite Top 5 show for Tone Talk. There were a number of times I found myself having to go back and re-listen to parts to make sure I heard what I thought I heard ... You could tell even Dave who has seen and heard a lot over the years was caught off guard a few times. It would be great to have Jeff & George back on again in 6 months,. Great job Marc & Dave. Cheers : )
I use a stereo Two Notes Torpedo Cab M plus boxes with those George CABS. I use the Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8 to tap the signal direct to stereo fx. They work great for me. I mic the dry cab, but use the stereo Two Notes Torpedo Cab M plus IR boxes to mixer. They are safe to use with your tube head as long as you don't go over 100 watts and check your connections everytime during set up.
2 greatis Legends Dokken one of the greatis Band ever Jeff amazing on bass and hi is a Legend and George amazing on Guitar and hi is one of my Guitar Hero of all time
Killer episode! Jeff is such a cool dude. Never really known of him but obviously have heard his music. Thanks guys! Oh, and yeah I think a purple Lynch Friedman would be a nice gesture and testament for a rock legend!
Amazing show guys, Jeff & George are so much fun, I'd love to find bandmates like that someday. Such a shame Eddie isn't still around for shows like this, it's so natural and un-staged, I'm sure he would have eventually warmed up to the idea. I'd love to see you get Scott Henderson on, his tone is amazing and he's really funny too!
I actually saw the whole episode which I rarely do because how long they are. They're both very funny guys.I love George's sense of humor like "the carpets aren't matching the drapes" Very hilarious!
It's cool to see Jeff & George just joke & kid & work together & really just get along, that's good stuff & wish more band members were just good friends, thru it all✌️.
Jeff and George are F€@¥N Hillarious together , loved Watching this. George is my favorite Guitar player of all time. Thank You Dave and Marc for having them on...☮💚🇨🇦🙏
Lol I've met George in person in Atlanta and he is far from Racist... trust me, as a Poc, we can sniff that energy & negativity a mile away. Plus I doubt Dug Pinnick would've lasted 5 minutes around George when they did the KXM albums. -I've also met Pinnick. That did my heart well, the common ground of being a brother playing heavy rock & into metal. I'll personally vouch for GL anyday of the week, I love that dude. I remember when he entertained the idea of changing the Lynch Mob name. As a fan of color, that's when I knew, yeah, he's alright.
George: "Oh, I don't travel with musicians, just drummers and bass players..." As a drummer who loves all these guys, for clarity - you are total pickin' tone - GEEKS!
Live in Scandinavia, the older Jeff gets, the more Swedish He looks, any truth to that? Dokken opened for Twisted, Radio City NYC. They blew me away, night to remember.
Wish I could play in a cover band with Pilson on bass ! Not to mention his killer vocals!!! (And kids , there is no such thing as wishing;make it happen!!) Also get this: "Talent is 1%, perspiration is 99%" (Einstein said that)!!! So work HARD!!!
6000 people standing up and screaming at end of Foreigner. They made cool additions to some of the classics. They played HEAVY. It was Sunday night too #whenheavencomesdown
This is really cool! Im convinced tone chasing is a serious addiction. Marketing is incredible they have signature gear they dont use. Ive been playing for years actually took a few lessons from George at a record store best records. I enjoy this but it will end up costing me.. ill start buying and changing things and spend countless hours that lead to frustration. Everytime i think ive figured it out i wake. Up the next day and it doesn't sound right. I wish i new the definition of vintage would change from old gear nobody wants to old gear thats expensive. They mentioned echoplex ive owned a few and used to buy blank. 8 track tapes and splice them before they had replacement cartridges. I hated them yet was looking at one the other day. Im curious if modeling amps will one day will devalue vintage gear
Definitely Get Jeff and George episode! Next time have them Jam online!! And have More questions asked by us next time. Hopefully you can get Jeff and George to go on again.
2 of my favorite musicians!!! Legends in my book. Great personalities!!! Hilarious tag team. Always mad respect to Jeff and George. George is the reason I play guitar!!! Great channel guys. Keep the content coming!!! Cheers!
Best tone talk ever, what a magic chemistry between Jeff and George. Thoroughly enjoyable.
This is definitely one of the Top 5 Tone Talk episodes so far! This one was thoroughly enjoyable, funny, educational and a time capsule revelation! Thank You to Jeff, George, Dave and Mark! Exceptional and very fun show! Cheers to you all!
This was a great interview. George & Jeff should create their own UA-cam channel, the fans would love it when they can do live feeds together.
Best show to date! It’s crazy how they still play off each other so effortlessly after all these years… it’s like that old Dokken VHS revisited lol 🤘🏻
Awesome VHS tape
No Kidding
Yep...when they were in the hotel room cutting up.
Minus the drugs and alcohol

George & Jeff are a Magical Music Duo. Personally, you can tell they are like each other's best friend .
all time A leaguers as a songwriting tandem, underappreciated by rock fans.
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle I agree 1,000 percent. I remember George saying in an interview that Jeff is his writing soulmate. There is a certain magic there that is rare
These guys are just naturally hilarious, one of the funniest episodes ever.
I giggled more through this interview than I have in a long time.
Sitting here recovering from the China virus and watching these videos. I’m not sure if the lack of breathing is from the laughter or virus! Lol! This one and the Jake E Lee show was freaking awesome!!! Thank you so much for helping me make it through. Keep e’m coming!!!
Lifelong friends, right there. Wonderful to watch, even better to listen to them play.
Brilliant, George and Jeff are a monster comedy duo
A league songwrting tandem as well.
Jeff, George, and Mick must have been a riot of laughs on tour. Great show and good laughs. Good tone and good laughs go well together.
What a great time. These guys are so much fun. They were even like this with each other on the Unchain the Night VHS. Yeah, I had that when it was out fresh.
It was great...
Me too! the guitar whammy neck! 🎸..
I think that I still have mine!
JEFF IS FLYING HIGH! JESUS!! WHEN DO WE GROW UP AND BECOME A TAD RESPONSIBLE?
Fantastic episode guy! Seriously, really good. This is perhaps the most comfortable that I've ever seen George on camera.

Love that Randy Hansen got a mention here, he is just stunningly amazing!
Lynch and Pilson are awesome! Saw them live a few times with Dokken back in the 80's! Glad they're still making music!

Jeff is such a cool dude. Just seen him on stage with Foreigner. What a showman! He's got so much energy. It's infectious.
