Yes pls ...
this was my first live tone talk and it didn't dissapoint! I laughed out loud a few times thanks to Luke's shenanigans. He has a filthy mind, I Love it !!!!! Cheers from your fans in Ottawa Canada !!!!! We have lots of Tone Talk fans in the capital of Canada !!!!!!
Just in case someone looks here,,, It's Luke Part 2 ua-cam.com/video/9eaIexO1y-0/v-deo.html
The Gospel According To Luke. Love this man! God Bless you Luke
I absolutely adore Steve Lukather! Drinking a beer with him is definitely on my bucket list!!
Thanks so much! I am an italian session player and Steve was always font of inspiration. God bless you.
Steve Lukather is definitely one of my influences. I will never forget those solo parts on EW&F Faces Steve layed tracks on. That brought the soul of those songs to life. Such as You Went Away. Take care Steve. You are amazing with Toto and respected as a Guitar Artist. All the Best.🤗🎸🎶🎤
If Steve had not been a great musician he would probably had been a great stand up comedian. He's so funny and he's always so close to say the whole sh*t he knows about the music business. Love him.
Steve Lukather is fucking hilarious! On a more serious note, don't take any chances, Steve! We will always still need you! I remember looking at his Ibanez ads in Guitar Player and thinking about how awesome he was. Just a killer, killer, killer player. Not the flashiest, not the jazziest, not the fastest, but one of the best ever.
I have to disagree with that last bit. I would say Luke is all those things.
@@cathybedwell1877 Naw, he'd be the first to admit it. There are definitely faster players, for example. It doesn't matter. The only people impressed by guitar speed is other guitar players, and not even all of them are. I'm not. Steve's playing has never been about speed or flash - it's been about taste. Really, really, really good taste. That's why he's one of the best ever.
Luke ... I love you and thanks for the years and years of great music.
Lukather; a King amongst Kings in the session world!
I saw Toto August 26, 1982 at the Universal Amphitheater, and they killed it! What a great night. They were so clean you could argue "pre-recorded!" Not a bad note the entire show - VERY tight. I saw a lot of concerts in the day, and only two were "oops-free" (Supertramp at Irvine Meadows, Rodger Hobson's last night with the band, was the other).
I just ordered Toto Japan 1982. Looking forward to the flashback.
Thanks Steve. I love playing a disc, grabbing my axe, and throwing down with you...
... Always a great ride.
Peace.
I don’t care if Steve sells guitar picks at Sweetwater head quarters, I will buy it. He has had a life long career with and around people my dad would tell me about as a kid. I wish someone would be with him and film him from time to time. I always look up him and Joe Walsh weekly.
This was the best tone talks, thanks for having Luke, very entertaining
Glad you enjoyed it!
Steve Freakin' Lukather!!!! I would have loved to have seen this live! Dude is my favorite player ever.
Thanks Steve and Marc and Mr Friedman...
Great conversation with the man Luke🙏🙏🎸🎸🎼🎼
Love listening to his wisdom and stories
I enjoy everything Luke has his fingerprints on; the music, his humor, his amazing autobiography. One of the most humble LEGENDS in music. Some kids wanted to be John Wayne or GI Joe or whatever when you played pretend. I wanted to be Steve Lukather.....still do.
Luke is a national treasure, amazing talent and funny as hell too
Only time I met Luke I was 19...he scared the shit outta me cuz he was friggin Steve Lukather...then he killed me with his wicked humor...for MANY guitar players, he IS the G.O.A.T.
AMEN to that!
Steve you're a great player who has lived a charmed life....👏👏👏👏
What a real treat. Thanks, guys!
Not only a fantastic musician but God Dammmm the guy makes me split with his humour. Love You Luke
Hi from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 ☺ 💗 🙏 Steve you are the best!!! You are the best!!!
Glad that he is happy with his kids and beautiful girlfriend. And sober.
Always looked up to Steve as such a great inspiration. This was awesome. Loved the book too!!
Thanks guys! I am grateful I met Steve at the first Jason Becker ALS benefit show in '96.
It was a Great time ( I was working for CNN at the time and produced 2 stories on Jason.
Definitely one of the most entertaining shows! Steve’s phrasing both on and off the guitar is awesome! 😂
Hi Steve a big kiss from Italy
Awesome. Steve seems like a fun guy. What a talent
This was great thank you! Please keep us posted on Pt. 2 with Steve Lukather
Luke = sensei! Thank you guys!
Thank you guys. This show is soo good. Looking foreward to part 2.
I love "Lukatherisms."
Gig licks at their finest!
Great interview> I read Steve's book enjoyed it very much, going to read it again lol. Thanks for sharing your playing and life lessons !
Great interview and thanks to Steve. This channel should be so much bigger.
Michael Landau is one of those live gigs I will never forget. Put a grin on my face for 100 minutes straight. Best dynamics ever.
Man…to spend a day with Lukather. Talking, or just watching. Always entertaining and such a nice guy always!
God did BLESS you Steve. He gave you "MUCH" talent and I hear a nice personality! Be good.
Fantastic again guy's really enjoyable.
Preach brother Luke, preach!
Steve was alot of fun, cool stories
Once again, great episode. Thank you very much, waiting for part 2. ;-)
Brutally honest. I gotta a lot of respect for the apology to Billy Corigan. It takes a big man to do that live, directly to Billy himself, with a huge radio audience listening.
Timestamp ?
@@82907 Sorry, I have no idea where it is in this video timestamp-wise. But Steve talks about how he apologized to Billy while on the radio in Chicago. Billy is from Chicago, so that apologizing there was even more stand up.
@@jppagetoo Cool, I've got the mellom collie guitar tab book, and in the intro pages billy write a section about steve. Both are great musicians, and an inspiration to all guitar players.
So so many years ago I did pre-production guitar work for a song by a DJ named Brandmeier from back east. I heard he was billed as the Howard Stern of Chicago, which is neither here nor there but, the fun part for me was Luke was coming in with other heavy hitters to do the finish track. I worked with the producer and engineer and came up with the parts, a heavy 5ths part, a sympathetic part 2 that, some clean chord stabs, main solo, outro solo. And they really wanted me to wail on it. It took me 4 hours and I made a couple hundred bucks. But the best part is I heard when Luke heard it, he said what are you getting me for this guy is killing it. I think the song was called 'what's up with that. I'm still on cloud nine from that, especially as my hands can barely make a 6/9 chord without wincing in pain. It only took him 2hrs.
Still Dig his Cameo Appearances on The Earth,Wind,&Fire Album Faces That Track Back on The Road Was Fire
Luke. My life inspiration from Day Dot. A massage Hello and love from the Uk. I cannot wait for Luke’s next solo tour and album. Love Peace and good health from Johnny and Oscar the Saint Bernard
When I saw Luke's discography of everything he's played on when I bought The Gospel According To Luke (HIGHLY recommend) I was dumbfounded. Literally almost every good album you can think of from the 70s-90s
Thanks for this interview
Would love to hang just a couple of moments with Luke. The Greatest!
you guys need to have Luke and Steve Farris on together. i find both of these guys so interesting to listen to, they just talk without any hangups, just seems to me an honest discussion from both of them
I fucking love Steve he is one of my heroes , hope he is safe
Luke’s talking like the best is behind him, the BEST is yet to come, just a weird season right now, and it will pass. Truth is that if your career ended 40 years ago you already accomplished more as a musician, writer, than anybody. Keep chargin’ strong, stay healthy, and congrats on being a stand up dad.
"Luke" is the best, what a talent.
The Godfather of Punk. Mr. Steven Lee Lukather.
Love you, Luke
Love Mr Lukather and admired his skill for a long time. Would love to meet and have some banter with him. When are you coming to Scotland Steve ??
One of the funniest episodes yet!
awesome
Good to know that there might be more to come from Toto as Luke said at 50:00
Fingers crossed.
Sounds like there was some drama with the last iteration of the band. Wonder what that sh*t was all about?
@@erikcagle1177 A lawsuit with the widow of Jeff Porcaro about royalties and the use of the name Toto
@@klaasvandals2005 Also sounds like Lukather and Steve Porcaro have fallen out ("Steve Porcaro hates me", Lukather utters in this video). Not sure if it had anything to do with the lawsuit or other aspects of Toto band business that Steve Porcaro wasn't happy about. Apparently they haven't communicated at all since the last Toto gig in October 2019 and Steve Porcaro has left the band (or rather any incarnation of it). I think what will likely emerge somewhere down the line as a touring entity is "Steve Lukather's Toto", which will probably also feature Joseph Williams. Lukather has a share in the band's name and also has Paich's blessings. As long as he calls it "Lukather's Toto" Jeff Porcaro's widow cannot veto it.
@sundet81 Much like Jeff Lynne's ELO. If Luke, Joseph, Lenny Castro and Shannon Forest is in it, to make an album and tour, it might actually be quite a good incarnation of the band.
@@soulsouljazz07 Yeah it would be a very good band indeed. But would it really be Toto without Paich and a Porcaro present?
Brilliant! Any chance of getting Neal Schon on the show? Thank you.
Part 2!! 😎👍🎸
Really good. I only got the audio and thought Lukather was just hammered.. Lol.. Turns out, he's just having a blast
T Crane Luke is sober so definitely not hammered. He’s on 10 all the time and has awesome energy! We love him!
Yeah!!! fun!!
This man is an absolute legend, killer guitar player and fucking hilarious with it😄
Gas interview guys ❤️
Luke is to Toto as Mike Portnoy was to Dream Theater. Yes he plays a specific instrument and does vocals sometimes, but he IS the band and manages every aspect of it, including songwriting. WHAT A TALENT
wrong,Lukei is to TOTO as John Petrucci is to Dream Theater, and dont forget Luke did all vocals on the Tambu album
@@Nig6tWalker wow you’re an idiot. I know the band personally and you’re denying the obvious fact that Luke essentially runs Toto along with David Paich; just the times he wants to tour? (off and on)
@@TrebleForTheBass wow the idiot here are you, anyway i know i know there are some idiots in the world like you are
@@Nig6tWalker ok, buddy. Sure thing…smh
Actually i would say that they are good musicians but they are nothing on their own. However, when they all work together then thats when the magic appears.
I love seeing Dave get his buzz on😂
the wittiest guy
just great!
Steve a band? TOTO was not A band, they were The band!!!! I hope you and your family are safe...
Jake e Lee part 2.... Lukather part 2 damn you guys are the best
At the right place at the right time, that's the key right there, nevertheless Lukather is a great guitarist, singer, & songwriter. Amen
i so want steves new music, where can i get it?
Bryan Yakubik not out yet
Wasn’t the Robot guitar sold through Andy Brauer’s?? I’m happy to know Luke still has it!!
lol love Steve! 🏆👍🏽
I wonder if - those recordings that weren't hits then, might be hits today. This includes tracks that never made to an album or single. What do you think?
Steve’s personality is hilarious! He’s like Charles Bukowski
difference is Luke isn't a pessimistic old fart
Bring Michael Landau!!!! please
No Substitutions- Luke and Larry Carlton- check it out!
Get Luke and Landau on one show. Landau just has a sense of humor that on another plane. Make that happen
Unfortunately Mike can't come on
The elephant man lol
Luke Luke Luke!
When are you getting Michael Landau on the show?
He isn't coming on but thanks
Really great show. Thanks for doing it and getting one of my favorite players ever as a guest. But was disappointed my superchat question never was asked.
James Buonassisi what was your question? I’ll get it answered
@@tone-talk Thanks!
"Really enjoyed your book. Not at all surprising that many other musicians like and speak highly of you. Do you think being 'likable' is important in getting the gig?"
James Buonassisi I’ll send it to him and get a response and post it here soon
James Buonassisi here is Steve’s reply! “Great question.
YES. You have to 'fit in' without being a brown-noser or an idiot. hahaha
Its very delicate.
The GIG itself is what it is but the HANG is almost as important cause we all like to work with our friends. Well we became a brotherhood of about 20 or so guys that did it all. Bst times of my life and I was deeply honored to have made the cut!
When in doubt say nothing. If you are funny... pick your spots but most impost. You better play great. Then everyone likes you and it all opens up to a future.
Its the same with bands and marriage. hahaha”
Hay Steve do Remember a guy name Bertt Bates from North Hollywood
I wish Dave would have not interrupted Steve as much as he did. After all your interviewing Steve. Ask a question and then listen.Please.
I agree
Luke❤️
„i said thank you and bye“
Ait that's 3, Mark... You know what to do 👍
They are up!
Tone-Talk 👌
I really want to know what that Andy guy has of Steve’s lol
At 1:17:23 he misquoted Jake, never said Steve sucked, but now he may have changed his mind, lol.😆
Nicola Ferrari what did Jake say then?
@@tone-talk That Steve is a GREAT player, but to be a "guitar hero" in the 80s it takes more than just skills.
Something like that. The image and how you looked was very important also back then.
@@tone-talk Taken from the Facebook page - Jake E Lee Fans and Photos (Ozzy Osbourne-Badlands-Red Dragon Cartel): Jake here. Argh! Do I have to dig out that magazine now? I said Steve was a GREAT player. But he didn’t have that cool you need to be a guitar hero, in the 80’s. This was in the 80’s for Guitar for the Practicing Musician, I think. NOW, I think he sucks, for misquoting me!
Btw, it was in response to a question on what made a guitar hero. I said it wasn’t just about ability and used him as an example.
@@denisrad4339 Bingo. Jake is hilarious, lol.
Get Mr Landau on the show!
What’s the name of his sons band again? He keeps mumbling and the Internet isn’t exactly up-to-date yet. Not ZFG, the current name.
LEVARA
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. I’m dying for some quality new music.
👍🦋💕🥰🌈🌞
Is that real hair color?
Hmmm ? Steve has issues . . . . But still an awesome talented musician !!
I went the whole weekend in 2002 in Koblenz, (the most expensive weekend in my life).. talked to Joe and Eileen.. Greg Bissonette.. Zorro and Glenn Hughes.. Now I feel guilty about asking Garfield for an autograph on my Tribute CD for Jeff.. Didn't know he was such an ass at the time.. Sorry Steve...
Maybe it was answered, but why Steve has his thinking that people have shit and hurt him in the past
'Steve Porcaro hates me'??? Did I really hear that? What the fuck is that all about?
if 3034 is how you think inside why would anyone ever listen to you,
I like his honesty and humble personality. I've watched him talk about George Harrison and when his dad bought him his first guitar and amp. He's a beautiful human being.
Well this was epic.
