Right? so true. @BillMaher - I like you but you need a scolding on this note...for someone to give you something & say they worked on it for 2 yrs! - & you totally ignored that & gave no recognition to Tommy. Not a gracious response at all. The tree was Tommy's & he probably never intended to give it to anyone but he chose to give it to you. Tommy prob thought, what can I give Bill as a thoughtful gesture of friendship? Certainly, nothing store-bought...I'll give him something that is special to me, something I shaped, tended, & took care of. This was a truly thoughtful gift, Bill! You're lucky to have received it. I hope you take care of it.

Not one single question on how he got into that or even wanting to understand more about his very unique hobby. I love you Bill but you are also rude and tactless. A bonsai tree is pretty damn underwhelming, and even moreso after the fanboy spiel. Every goddamn house in Ireland had a Bonsai tree 20 years ago when it was the cool new thing. Yes I know Tommy grew it himself and it symbolises his recovery blah, blah - but thats the way with "personal" gifts - they often please the giver more. Bill would have preferred something musical probably. A signed copy of X, Y, or Z.

As someone who wrote professional criticism for a bit I can only speak of my own motivations, but for me it was a combination of my love for music/film/literature (I wrote criticism for all three), my love for writing, and the fact that I felt I was good at it. The stereotype of critics who love to appear cool and clever by shitting on art certainly happens, but personally I never took pleasure in writing bad reviews, and more often than not I found myself being reflective about why I didn't like something rather than just finding as many clever ways as I could of saying how bad it was. The whys of how we react to art as we do has always fascinated me and it's still a subject that's very unexplored scientifically and (IMO) poorly explored philosophically.

I had a similar experience, was out in the parking lot of the Keystone palo alto. Just hanging out getting ready to help my friend 's band load in. We had a jug of wine, and the bassist yells "hey that's motley crue" I'd never heard of them, they weren't even playing there until the next night. When they heard their name they came over saw our wine and we sat for about 5 minutes and shared the rest with them. Totally casual, this was before they were famous, Tommy had to be 18 or 19. I was about that age and I just remember thinking how different our formative years must has been because they came off as somewhat feral and transient and alien, but this was pre fame and they were just like your typical rocker trying to make it. It's insane they don't have liver disease because they were heavy drinkers that long ago and just kept going.

WoW I just watched the documentary PAMALA recently.
She & Tommy sure had a wild life yet so short lived. Their sons are so handsome. Glad Tommy grew up more than he realizes.

I loved this podcast! Tommy never says a bad word about anyone. He is a smart man and an awesome drummer. I had heard years ago he might have ADHD. I definitely enjoyed this interview between two men who have opposite personalities.

No, he's not "smart", and he is an okay rock drummer.

The dude is a member of one of the most controversial bands in history. He has been with more women in 10 years than you’ve ever met in your entire life. This is a guy that felt unchallenged with normal drumming, so he strapped himself into a rotating drum set. He married Pamela Anderson when he wasn’t even in his prime. He toured the world and partied his ass off.
Tommy Lee is someone you listen to, not talk over.

Bill Maher, sometime when you have a musician on your show ask them if they are into cymatics at all. because now standard tuning is 440hz since the 1930's, before that many different tunings were used ,432hz was used a lot it gives music a different affect on us. it was more "in tune" with our body kind of a calming effect. 440hz is kind of chaotic. look into it. being in tune with the universe is a true thing. im a drummer and i looked into why a deaf guy i knew could dance in time with the music. its an interesting subject and im just curious if many other musicians ever looked into that. different hz have healing capabilities on the human body. Tommy said about drumming you have to have a feeling for music and i think cymatics are behind "feeling" the music. a lot of stuff here on youtube about it, i think you would find it interesting. if you read this, thanks for your time.

Bill Maher gets all these great guests and interrupts constantly when the guest is telling a great story. Damn I wish I had money to have tommy lee on as a guest. I’ve been a crue head since 83 at the age of 11 and now 51. Bill has no clue but love that T-bone was a guest. MÖTLEY CRÜE SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. It embarrassing that they aren’t already. Come at at me haters 🤘🏽

You people bitching about him interrupting his guests while they seem fine is like white rich kids being more upset over something “racist” than the people it supposedly is racist against. Just stop.

Ask him. I don't think you realize this but most people do not get paid for going on podcast. Not even Joe Rogan the number one podcaster pays the people that get asked. but people do it for the great publicity and or they want that person to go on their podcast because everyone has one now days

I had the honor and privilege of meeting Tommy backstage at one of their shows in Dallas. He’s exactly the same way off of camera and is nothing short of totally awesome. Nikki was as well. Vinny and Mick were a bit more of the stuck-up ones. Although Tommy and Nikki will always be my rock hero’s! The greatest of all in my opinion and the 80’s were totally off the chain…..Js.

Same experience here! Nikki and Tommy were engaging, while Vince and Mick looked obligated to being at the signing...met Vince again several years later and thankfully he was more happy to meet his fans.
