I did not like the fake exhaust on my ‘18 Q5 but my 2023 SQ5 has real exhaust pipes and I think they are going to some kind of standard real tips moving forward. I like Audi, would love to own a Porsche but the latter is a total money pit.
Decent review for sure. I was comparing these 2 cars 2 years ago before I made my purchase. The one thing that was not mentioned in this review was the infotainment. This is where the Audi stood apart for me. The technology is better. I think everyone is on the same page here however. The Macan is overall the better car based on reasons others have mentioned. The Audi is very comparable. It is more well rounded and comfortable. The Audi SQ5 is what I chose and I would happily choose it again. I don't think you can lose either way.
Had and Audi (Q7) not the 5, and now have a Porsche Macan GTS. Only in my view, Porsche is by far the better car.... all round. The Macan can be driven like a town car, and then a track car, it's awesome and I have never got bored driving it. The Audi was clunky and not as high quality as the Porsche....... The seats and entire seating/driving position in the Porsche is something that Porsche have really thought about and worked on for the driver., and the performance is mind blowing.
Can agree on your analysis that Porsche think about the driver more than most car brands. I’ve got a 2019 SQ5 - test drive the Macan GTS, and apart from the noise the Audi drove just as well. I’ve got after market exhausts now - sounds great. A few kW less in power - but the Audi interior I have is far superior to this model - I have the RS leather cross stitch interior and it’s better than the Macan I drove … Both amazing cars. The one sell point for me was I can fit a lab in the back of the SQ5 and not in the Macan 😂
I was on the market for one of these two same year as well, 16’ Macan, 18’ SQ5. I drove both and couldn’t agree with you more, the Macan is more a driver focused car and with the air suspension it behaves closer to a hatchback than an SUV. The Audi is a great car as well and was very comfortable and definitely roomier at the back and boot. I ended up going for the Porsche manly due to the driving experience and slight better build quality in my humble opinion. The tech is not that different the 16’ Macan has an updated touch screen and car play/android auto, the Audi has the virtual cockpit plus the wireless charger. Driving wise both got auto everything adaptive cruise etc.
I was thinking these roads look familiar and then saw the 2222 sign and knew you were on 360, then the bridge just confirmed it. Love seeing great local car content.
This is the review I have been waiting for because I’m in the market for both!!!.... Most reviews between these two vehicles are the Macan And the diesel SQ5 in Europe
I had an Audi. One day, I got into my vehicle, which was completely locked up, tires, steering wheel, and everything. I had to have it towed to an Audi dealership. My Audi was out of warranty, but the issue was a known Audi issue that Audi refused to acknowledge. To me, as a female, it was a safety issue. What if it was in the middle of the night and I needed to get away quickly and could not because my vehicle was locked up? I got rid of my Audi because I no longer felt safe. My husband owns a 1975 Porsche 914 that is our weekend fun car. I'm thinking of looking at Porsche Macan as my next vehicle. I also love the Porsche Panamera (my husband says it's not a real Porsche, LOL), but they don't hold their resale value for the price they cost brand new.
These were my two choices I narrowed down to. I went with Porsche after test driving both. The handling is what stood out most to me, it doesn’t feel like you’re driving a suv at all.
Great comparison. I especially appreciated that you drove the Porsche second, and that’s exactly what I’d be doing. I drove the SQ5, loved it, and am shopping for an alternative, with the Macan S topping the list. 🙏
I generally agree with the review that the Macan is just a better drivers car. One thing I will say that you can’t get from a test drive is that long term I would get the Macan. I’ve owned multiple Audis and Porsches and the Porsches have been much more reliable over the long term. On the Porsches I have only done scheduled maintenance on 2 vehicles that are at 60k and 40k miles. The 2 Audis had some issues come up right after the warranty ended like bad injectors and several water pumps and radiators.
Speaking from my experience with my local Las Vegas Porsche dealer, maintence is absolutly absurd on P cars. I could justify it on my 981 Cayman S, but on my base Macan, no way.
Naturally the two SUVs are going to share similarities since mama VW gave Porsche access to he S5 platform in order to build the Macan. The Audi is, for all practical intents, a jazzed-up VW without a soul. The Porsche is the most compelling compact SUV you can buy for the money, and the best made.
So I was super disappointed when I test drove a A3 right after selling my Jetta… the interior was disgustingly similar & I really hope Porsche doesn’t have the same issue to a T…!?!
To be fair it would be better to compare Gen II Macan as they are both from the same generation timeline. Macan gen I will be outdated compared to Audi on all tech related things. Out of these two cars, would get the SQ5, without a doubt.
Damn right!! I test drove a 18’ Macan S. The truck didn’t even have navigation.. I own a 19’ SQ5 and they don’t even compare. Digital cockpit, ambient lighting, S-Sport pkg, etc. And it has the new engine Porsche eventually gets instead of that old ass 3.6 Liter. Oh yeah, the SQ5 farts as well!!!
Porsche Automobil Holding SE is a holding company owning 53.3% of Volkswagen, the world leading car manufacturer (passenger cars and utility vehicles) under Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, SKODA, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ducati, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Scania and MAN.
@PAC-MANN Porsche and Volkswagen merged in 2011. At that time, Porsche was designated a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG (interestingly, besides being the Porsche parent company, VW also owns Audi, Bugatti, and Lamborghini). So, from that standpoint, Volkswagen AG is the company who owns Porsche.
I've had both...Macan S is fun, but limited in its utility. SQ5 is fun, aslo much more comfortable, and has more cargo space. I like both a lot, but I kept the SQ5.
How did the steering compare? My dad has an SQ5 and steering is too light for my taste even in the heaviest setting. Is the Macan steering heavier or sharper?
I think the q5 seats might be a little more comfortable. As far as cargo space q5 is only 1sq ft larger . To me it’s which one you prefer the styling of. If you need more utility you probably need a different suv, unless that 1 sq ft really does it for you .
I just test drove 2 used 2015, 2016 Macan Turbo’s today. I left the first dealership to go & drive the 2nd macan thinking that there was something wrong with the 1st Macan I drove, they are soo slow! I’m utterly disappointed in the acceleration and pulling power of a ‘supposed’ 400hp. Sports suv. An the Bose Audio system that comes standard is comical, adjust the bass down to 0 and up the treble to +3 listen to every single door panel rattle & buzz, even the dash buzzes up behind the center clock at near max volume. I plan to test drive an SQ5 when I can find one. Porsche macan turbo was very underwhelming. PDK was great, handling, braking, cornering all very good. No power, horrible audio.
@@ChrisKeyman yes. I’ve since drive 2 SuperCharged SQ5 and one of the newer Turbo SQ5’s. I have decided not to buy either or them, Nor the Macan. Every person opinion is different. But between an 1st. Generation Macan, 1st. Generation SQ5 and the 2nd. Generation Turbo SQ5 the best-to-worst are: Supercharged SQ5, then Macan, last turbo SQ5. All 3 are horrendous slow with A lot of body/suspension roll. Something like a 2013 Audi S4 (stock) or a base model V6 Jaguar F-Type completely destroy’s these sport SUV’s. The Supercharged SQ5 has a bunch of aftermarket support, and ECU & TCU tune can make them Much faster. If you plan to buy an sq5 or a Macan Turbo and those them stock. You’ll be disappointed. I’m now looking at X3M or “gasp” Model Y performance. These SUV run 11-sec. 1/4 mile. Macan turbo, SQ5 run 13-something 1/4 mile
Porsche AG, the carmaker, is now fully owned by Volkswagen AG, while Porsche SE, which is controlled by the Porsche and Piech families, is Volkswagen's largest shareholder and holds a majority of voting rights.
@donaldbanner2185 Yeah agree i bought a 3.5 year old Audi SQ5 for $ 0 and while i was getting excited i bought a 2.5 year old Porsche Macan for $ 0 thanks donald for the mat yr a brainer.
The fake tail pipe was the biggest disappointment since aunt Jamima being racist
Best comment I’ve seen all day lol😅

2022 and after, SQ5 gets a real quad exhaust with a sport exhaust upgrade. Problem is, a $60k+ sports SUV should have it by default.

Is it true that it jerks when approaching stopping or at start at a street light?
Porsche Macan for me..
Depends if you want a loaded audi or a basic car that says porsche
Love review ❤
I have the 2014 sq5.. supercharged. Real exhaust real everything, I love it
What job do u do to run that car
Which should i get? The macan is based on the 1st gen Q5, while this Q5 right here is the 2nd gen already

Most people don't care of most on these but they just look into the name " Audi and " porche " so which one is good name?

That SQ5 has been rearended, it's missing the honeycomb from right and left, it's also probably the lowest spec'd SQ5 I've ever seen.
How much ?
Good review!
Can you do it with newer years? 2020 above?
0-60 who will win or a 1/4 mile
As an audi owner tbs porches just more known brand
Sq5 looks better to me.
That’s the most standard sq5 doesn’t even have the good rims or seats 💀
Looks like you are in my hometown Austin. 183 and 360…
I'm willing to get lower perfomance numbers with macan just coz redicilious sq5 door handle and fake exhaust, wtf audi...
I can stop this video at 1:53
