    The 2022 Audi SQ5 Sportback TDI blends long-distance turbo-diesel cruising capabilities with a chassis designed to carve up corners with succinct accuracy.
    It’s loaded to the gunnels with luxurious features and sits at the top of Audi’s best-selling Q5 range. But is it a better choice than the 2022 Porsche Macan S, which is powered by a turbo-petrol V6 instead? That’s what we’re here to find out.
    Both SUVs share the same platform, are similarly priced and will look pretty schmick parked in your garage. But there can be only one winner. Watch the video to find out which of these Germans drives away with the win.

    We went from a Porsche Macan turbo...to a Amg Glc43 and now just got the SQ5...I can honestly say the Porsche is the fastest and just a smidgen tighter on the road with handling but the luxury side and looks go to the Amg and the snarl and snap of the shifts are easily better than the other two. I must say after owning the first two and now the SQ5 the Audi has a refinement and a surprising sporting experience I wasn't expecting. The tech is better and ride is better in comfort mode and the backseat is definitely bigger and the overall cabin feels more spacious. Until the Macan does a complete body remodel I think we'll stick to other brands but I do know there is no substitute for a Porsche!

    Really curious how the Macan’s interior lacks sophistication/luxury? In terms of build quality and overall materials, Porsche is the clear winner in the interior space, especially when we account for that dated stick-up screen in the Audi.

    Lack of storage is annoying but otherwise it's perfect.

    I don’t know what he’s talking about. That Porsche interior looks gorgeous compared to the Audi. It’s even going to look good in 10 years. The Audi has such a generic interior style, that screen that sticks out of the dash already looks way dated and you can’t tell the styling apart from an Audi A4…

    Fun fact- They do not share a platform, and haven't since 2016.
    Because that's when Audi's production facility in Mexico started building the second generation of the Q5's for the 2018 launch of that new redesign.
    Just 3 years before that Harmon Kardon had purchased Bang & Olufsen's automotive division and B&o Play as well. So.... Make of that what you will.
    The Graphics in the Porsche center dash display, and Multi Function Display in the instrument cluster can both look just like the Audi's. You only have to locate and select Google Maps in the Porsche communication management system.
    The optional adaptive air-suspension that you can have on the Porsche makes the Macan ride completely different than it does with steel springs and adaptive dampers.
    Maybe Australia is different than the rest of the world. Because everywhere else the Porsche has a 4 year warranty, and both my Macan GTS's have had traffic sign recognition, and my new one has wireless phone charging in the center console. But only if you checked the box for it when you were building it, along with the Burmester Premium Audio System.

      That induction charging pad was priced so high that I skipped it. Love the brand above all others but things like that and $600 to have your car remote painted the same color as your car (you know it's from a bin) make them difficult to love sometimes. Can't get the experience anywhere else so you either pay or forego.

      From what I know, Macan is based on the previous generation of Q5, which is heavier and feels more planted on the road. New Q5s are lighter, which I don't like.

    • @9fiveb180
      @9fiveb180 7 місяців тому

      @@Selector21 That is correct. I had just bought an SQ5 in Oct of 2016, and totaled it the following Feb with only 3146 miles on the odometer. I was so heartbroken. Went to the first Audi dealership in Denver when the 2nd gen Q5's had been delivered, and as soon as I sat in the seat, and looked at the fit and finish of the materials....... I looked over at my sales associate, and said, "EW, what is this sh*t?"
      So I went over to the Porsche side, and test drove a Macan Turbo. But it was white with that mahogany or truffle brown club leather interior with wood trim, and I just didn't love that combo. So I went with a 2017 GTS in Agate Grey with Agate/Pebble grey full extended Leather and loved it so much that 3 years later, I got a 2021 GTS but in Sapphire blue with Agate/Pebble interior.
      I can't understand why they removed Agate grey from the list of standard paint colors for the Macan. But kept the Mahogany Metallic which nobody in the U.S ever picks.
      But I digress.

    I have had my Gentian Blue Macan S for a month now and your review is fairly spot on. The car handles very well and the engine / acceleration are wonderful in sport or sport plus mode. Wireless charging is a simple add on and the Burmeister stereo is way better than the Bang & O. stereo, although a pricey option that I do not regret, nor should you if you love music. The 18 way seats are very comfortable and supportive. Nothing to complain about here.

      Tough to get enthusiastic about either one but the Macan is a complete rip off. Safety and other features that are standard on much less expensive cars, are only available as options at highly inflated prices. @@pete3953 A HUD is a ridiculous piece of frippery. Nobody needs one. My wife has one on her vehicle and it is useless. As far as pricing, yes, you will not find value at a Porsche showroom. Everything that should be standard on a car that expensive is optional. Every option is priced far above what other manufacturers charge. That's how it goes. You either pay the premium or buy a lesser car. Porsche is not selling value; they are selling an experience that can't be replicated.

    • @pete3953
      @pete3953 Рік тому

      @@cvn6555 You can speak for yourself but please don't presume to speak for me or others who find HUD very useful. When I'm driving in a busy, unfamiliar city, or going through an area with changing speed limits and speed traps, having navigation/speed/speed limit information directly in my field of view is a real benefit. Too many cars require you to take your eyes off the road to view important information. There are times and speeds when that is not a good idea.
      As for the "Porsche experience that can't be replicated", I see you've been effectively brainwashed. I've rented several Porsche models for vacations and greatly enjoyed my most recent experience of 3 weeks through Switzerland and North Italy in a Boxster. But, based on my experience with other makes - BMW, Mercedes, Audi (and even from the point of view of sheer driving pleasure, Alfa), I'd say Porsches, while excellent are not exceptional in terms of build quality, handling and reliability.
      The "unique" Porsche experience reminds me of wine "experts" who rave about a classic and very expensive Bordeaux. Have them do a blind test against good blends from Napa, South Africa or a Super Tuscan from Italy and the Bordeaux becomes just one excellent wine among many.
      But, hey..to each his own. Porsche is very happy to have people like you buy into the myth and pay their inflated prices.

      If you're buying a sports SUV, you're just looking for a way to get a performance car without your wife murdering you in your sleep (lol!), And the Macan is just so much better to drive than the SQ5. The Audi-Porsche co-developed V6 in the Macan (also used in the RS4/5) is, I daresay, one of the best V6s of this era. Compared to the diesel in the Audi... And when you're shelling out this amount for a sports SUV, I don't think running costs will be that big of a concern for you. Terrible review. The Porsche Macan S blows Audi SQ5 out of the water. Just look at the integrated info screen compared to the awful stick on screen from the Audi. The handling and drive is much sportier with the Porsche. Audi has the advantage in space and price but the Audi is dated and those fake exhaust tips are an abomination at this price point.
