This was always my favorite Sugarland song. The reference however to "you'll remember what your knees are for " she was talking about praying not where your dirty minds went. But hey your guys so I get it and my mind ain't always clean either.
Actually her parents are speaking to her at this point and I don't know too many who would encourage their child to get on their knees to get their way in the way you got it. My mind is in the gutter a lot but it's country music and to assume it's dirty vs good is disrespectful. If it's dirty, country won't hide it , they'll come right out and say it🤷😆
@@loreeshock6084 Not sure if her patents are supposed to be speaking to her at this point I always thought it was more her just editorializing at this point, however your interpretation does make a lot of sense. However, sexual innuendo and double entendres have been used in films and music since the very beginning. Now if you're are talking about modern things which I think this is from 2006(?) so this would be considered modern they do generally just blurt it right out but sometimes you have to make it work and rhyme in the song so perhaps that is why they used a double meaning.
I always interpreted the line about remembering what your knees are for to be referring to defending yourself and kneeing the guy who is getting too close. This was their first commercial success.
This was when they first started and they were a trio. Now it is just Jennifer and Christian, when they sing together. I like the one with Jennifer and Jon Bon Jovi...Who Says You Can't Go Home. It was to help Habitate for Humanity.
The "know what your knees are for" I believe is hitting your knees to pray. But y'all made me laugh. I'm so glad you're liking country. There are some beautiful songs out there.
Jennifer Nettle's voice is definitely a power house. Settlin' is another great Sugarland hit, and Down to Mississippi showcases her vocals well also. She is now a solo artist and I long her song Jealously. There is also video on UA-cam of a CMT Giants concert honoring Reba where Jennefier Nettles covers her hit The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia. She is always worth a listen!
I always thought she was praying on her knees until you bunch of little boys started giggling 🤣. Way to take the virtue right out of song. Oh well, I love the song anyway, but now I can't hear it without laughing too.
This song hits me SOOO different now. When it first came out, I was a young adult, telling my mom "it's ok, I'm gonna make it." Listening today, my daughter is in college and she's now telling me "it's ok, I'm gonna make it." Last chorus brought tears to my eyes.
When Sugarland was still a trio, they did an episode of CMT Crossroads with Bon Jovi. It was excellent. I have no idea if it's streaming anywhere but it's definitely worth watching, in my opnion.
There are many of her live performances online where you can hear her flawless voice I would suggest …. “Who says you can’t go home “ with John Bin Jovi, Sugarland’s version of Red Dirt Road by Brooks and Dunn and a live awesome version of Bohemian Rhapsody. And ….Praying ….. Knees are for praying ! 😂😂
I love Martina. Jennifer Nettles doesn't have to reach that bar. She's there. You guys can listen to more Sugarland (Stay, Settlin', Something More, Stuck Like Glue)...THEN...you can listen to "You Wiil Be Found" from her 4th studio album, "Always Like New." (You can see her do this on stage, with a live version.) Or pick anything you want from her other three: "That Girl," "Playing With Fire," and "To Celebrate Christmas." Actually glad you did this. Most reactors do "Stay," which is more just Nettles, not Sugarland. But check out "You Will Be Found" for more goosebumps. :)
G'day boys, haven't heard this one for a good while, and no, the knees reference is not what you're thinking, getcha peanut above ya belt buckle...geez, some blokes...her mum's just reminding her not to forget to pray once in a while... There's two songs I'd like to add to the list or vote for if they're already on it; 1) "Down to Mississippi & Up to No Good"; 2) "Stuck Like Glue", one of the few country songs my "can't stand country music" daughter (said at the time with typical teenage sneer), actually really likes... I reckon Jennifer Nettles has one of the most unique voices I've ever heard, she is just a bit different and brilliant... 🤩🐨🇦🇺
First time this played on the radio, I was hooked. Love her voice. A great video that showcases her voice is from their tribute to Brookes and Dunn : Sugarland sang Red Dirt Road, and of course she is amazing.
Glen Campbell. You need too. "Galveston". You want the live version. Kenny Rogers, "Lady" is also a good one to look at. Great job guys. Dustin... good job holding down the fork while Keith bamphed on you. :) Also, you can't do an analysis on this cause it's not country, even though he is a classic country artist, but you should check out Glen's William Tell Overture... that is some guitar playing. If you do, let me know what you think.
Jennifer can sing anything and she loves to do covers. She was one of the judges on a one-season competition show called "Can You Duet" (Kelly Clarkson was also one of the judges) and every week she did something amazing. Singing "How am I Supposed to Live Without You", singing Italian opera in "The Prayer." I mean, there was truly stunning skill there. I would love to see y'all react to Sugarland's cover of "Life in a Northern Town" featuring Little Big Town and Jake Owens. Omg, the harmonies.
She was singing about all her mom told her that could happen to her but her Mom told her not to forget what her knees are for. (Praying, get your minds out of the gutter)
That was her first big hit that got played all over the radio and TV. Sugarland is often hit and miss. She's got a great voice but sometimes the group gets a bit to bubblegum pop and goes way out to left field where it's hardly recognizable. But this is a good song, I haven't heard it in years. If you like voices like hers then I think you'd love Trick Pony who is one of the most underrated country bands. They have a version of it's a Heartache that is just really good.
Jennifer is also a very talented actor, saw her play Dolly Partons mother ,when Dolly was just a child, she didn't look like herself, but in the movie she sung a couple of song clips and there was no way to not know it wasn't her with her great voice .
I think you guys would love the song “Life in a Northern Town” by Sugarland with Little Big Town and Jake Owen. It’s a great song and shows off Jennifer Nettles voice!
From what I understand is Sugarland took a break there for a little while cuz they were having a fight with their record label cuz human the use her range more and they wanted to keep her in that kind of early 2000s country pop that was so big and she wanted to go more rhema ends legendary ballots. And the label wanted to keep her more of the poppy crap and so Sugarland took off took a long time off there about 2013-14 she just said the hell with it I think they're back together now
They straight ran this song into the ground the summer of 06! It was EVERY WHERE. I'm just getting now getting around to where I like it again 😂 but please PLEASE react to their song Stuck Like Glue. You have to do the official video, though! The song isn't as good without the video. It definitely isn't what you think just hearing the song, but I don't want to say anything more and give it away! You guys are so awesome, keep it up!!!!
Two songs I would recommend if you want to really hear Jennifer Nettles crank it up, is the Sugarland tribute to Brooks and Dunn and they sing "Red Dirt Road" and then she does a solo cover of "Like A Rock" a Bob Seger cover. Both songs will give you goose bumps.
Great reaction yall. Jennifer Nettles has an amazing voice, I hope yall check out lots more of her music, she lets more of that power out in the song Unlove You, but it is another somewhat controversial song.
As a German, going on your knees can mean two things, right? 😂 Praying and the other thing. But for teenage boys it only means the not praying thing of course. 🤣
If you still want to see Sugarland {Jennifer Nettles} show her vocal chops you should check out "Sugarland Still The Same live from Jimmy Kimmel. She does belt in this live song.
Jennifer is on equal terms as far as vocal skills. She is awesome on every level. One of my favorite artists. I would like to vote for Chris Stapleton- Either Way.
I love Sugarland!! Please react to Little Big Town's Tornado, if you haven't already. I'm newly subscribed so maybe you have done it. I'd send a bribe if I could afford it. My 7yr old daughter belts this song & has no clue what it's really about yet. Feel sorry for her future boyfriend 🤣🤣 greetings from Nebraska.
Jennifer Nettles has way more than you guys have witnessed. She has performed at some different live events where she covers a song of an artist being recognized for their accomplishments and she's amazing!
When you can get back to requests without a bribe since I know nothing about bourbon you need to check out if you haven't yet Brantley Gilbert " Country must be country wide" it's a rockin tune.
Cool song. I’ve never heard anything by them before. Y’all should also react to Wait in the Truck by Hardy. It’s a great song that I think y’all would like

Y’all know she meant prayer🙏! ✌🏻☀️

It's actually about BOTH meanings as the music business was very sexist back in the day and that happened a lot!
I always took it to mean praying or begging. However the sexual double entendre was definitely intentional.
@@mikebarnett9012 I agree, she is writing to her parents, so she is talking about praying, but, the listener is supposed to catch both meanings.

My favorite Sugarland song is you just might make me believe I love that song

Sugarland. Something more. Yeah, she's holding back. Her live, amazing!
Sugarland’s first song - at that time there was 3 members - Jennifer Nettles can sing anything, she has one of the best voices
She can sing anything. She sings on Kennedy awards a lot. She sings lots of peoples songs!!!
This song hits me SOOO different now. When it first came out, I was a young adult, telling my mom "it's ok, I'm gonna make it." Listening today, my daughter is in college and she's now telling me "it's ok, I'm gonna make it." Last chorus brought tears to my eyes.
Remember what your knees are for refers to praying 😇😃 But just the look on you guys faces was much funnier. Boys will be boys. 😂 Love you guys.
She is saying that her knees are for praying but also is saying to remember what they aren't for. I take it that way anyways
Jennifer Nettles is insane, best female country singer imo. As others have said check out her singing brooks and dunn’s red dirt road 👌
I forgot how much I liked this song.
You should watch their song “Down in Mississippi (and up to no good)”. Really good one.
It happens and Already gone are my other 2 faves❤️😍
Definitely recommend these by Sugarland too:
Something More
Settlin’
All I Want To Do
Stuck Like Glue
Yes to all these! And add Down in Mississippi
