I feel like it gets more attention than people think, but not in the way they expect. What I mean by that is you don't hear people talking about listening to it (or really listening to it), but you can find quite a few covers from both famous bands and singers, and even random UA-camrs.
Dang it!!! I’d forgotten that the song tugs at my heart and makes me cry.I absolutely love this song and I love the harmonies. The song while it needs to be told, really breaks my heart. I can’t imagine being in that situation.
The song is amazing and Natalie has one of the most beautiful voices, especially with songs that are deeply emotional. The a cappella group, Home Free, recently did a cover of this song, but they reversed the roles with the soldier being a woman and she's going to Iraq, I believe. They are a group you should check out. Their playlist isn't all country but they do have a lot of country covers such as 9 to 5, Thank God I'm A Country Boy, Ring Of Fire, God Blessed Texas, and Man Of Constant Sorrow, which is a song you might recognize if you have ever seen the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou. But they (I believe) sing it better than the original from the movie.
@@BourbonCountryReacts Yes please! If you don't know much about a cappella it would be a great introduction. They make all sounds just with their voices but you will swear they have instruments. They do other styles but are the only country a cappella group out there.
@@lisaking4474 yes this is a group they have to do but my vote would be Home Free ft Don McLean - American Pie @bourbon country reacts love to see you do this song

This album Home is their most bluegrass album and in my opinion it is when they hit their stride.. It is when they started taking more of a control of their music. Natalie's dad produce most of this album.
Listen to Carrie Underwood Just A Dream. As a wife of a Vietnam Vet who also lost his childhood best friend who was killed in action in Vietnam I think everyone should hear this one and realize what our service men and women go through and the price that they and their families pay when they give their lives for our freedoms
Beautifully written, beautifully performed!! 💔😪♥️ And yes, Marty on fiddle and Emily on resonator are amazing musicians, playing a number of instruments.
They are phenomenal live. I got to work a concert of their where my spot was right there the corner of stage left. And their skill and voices are perfect live and they aren't lip syncing either.
I remember at Goodbye Earl when you said their true vocals were hiding out! They were great back then. Natalie doesn’t even look winded singing it and it takes a lot of breath and control in this song! Great reaction.
You still haven't heard all their talent. I'm not sure if there is just one song thay can capture it all. Their harmonies are incredible and their voices are absolutely as good live as recorded. I saw them a couple of times in the early 2000s and again in 2016 and they're still awesome. They have a cover of, "Landslide" that really showcases how tight their harmonies are. If you want to hear that fiddle jump, try "Sin Wagon." :)

Oh, this Chicks performance is from a bluegrass concert they did at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles where they played the whole album that they were bringing out at that time. It was a throwback to roots coubtry
This song was written by Bruce Robison… one of the Dixie Chicks is/was married to his brother Charlie Robison. His shit is worth checking out. My Brother and Me is a jam…
Oh man!!!! 😭😭😭😭 This song is a love letter and a beautiful reminder of all of our men and women in the Armed Forces. 🇺🇲🙏🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲❤️❤️ Man this got me all emotional I ain't even gonna lie. Their vocals and musical skill are great! Their roots are in bluegrass. They were known as the Dixie Chickens, before Natalie Maines, the lead singer joined.
I love the acoustic bass work in this one, with its deep tonality. 'Long Time Gone' is my personal favorite Chicks song.Ever heard of the Texas Tornadoes? They were a Tex-Mex supergroup including Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez. Try their hit, 'Who Wre You Thinking Of' if you get the time.
I heard this song when it first came out years ago. And this is the one song that will always play randomly in my head, I don’t have the slightest clue why
"Keeper of the Stars"' by Tracy Bird. He's country. Another great country artist Tracy Lawrence "Texas Tornado". Both wonderful artists and phenomenal songs
the ending of this song always brings tears to my eyes, even after over 10k listens. it's a shame their group had to disband in the early part of the millenium.
Hey guys! I enjoy watching y'all and you talked about how The Chicks are more than Goodbye Earl, you should go down this rabbit hole! You were mine, wide open spaces, Cowboy Take me Away, there's your trouble, Sin Wagon. These at least!!!
The Chicks were originally from Canada and the lead vocalist made a comment along the ones that she hated The USA. Needless to say that didn't go over too well.
Its the best version and performance of the song…so it great that you used this version. The vocals, and instruments dropping off and ending with the snare is very similar to “Stairway To Heaven”. It was their biggest hit before they got political…severely damaging their career.
They crucified these girls bcuz at one of their concerts, I think the major singer said she was embarrassed that Bush was from Texas! It was horrific. Screwed their career, had death threats. They've came back a little. Then they recorded a song bcuz of all this!! It's called Not Ready to Make Nice!! You really should hear it. Tells what happened to them!!
She was crucified for saying: “‘Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence. And we’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.” She said this because she was upset about the 2003 invasion of Iraq (part of the post 9/11 military action the US engaged in during W's administration). Fun fact...George W Bush is from Connecticut, not Texas. They moved to Texas for oil money.
Seeing this almost a year later- but you mentioned that this didn't showcase the most technical skills of the musicians... please please check out their live versions of songs like Sin Wagon or White Trash Wedding (both high tempo, fun songs) to see the astounding musicianship of them and their band!

Ryes can be bourbons. Almost all bourbons use a little bit of rye in their mash bill for flavor. Ones with no rye usually use wheat instead, and you'll see them labeled or described as "wheated." When a distillery adds a good bit of rye, usually more than 10-15%, they'll start referring to it as a "Rye Bourbon." The net effect of rye, is to add a "peppery" flavor that's pretty unmistakable. I personally love ryes. Dustin, I think, only likes it when it perfectly fits the rest of the flavor. And my wife does NOT like that pepper, and prefers "wheateds." - Keith
Beautiful song. Sad song but it doesn't pander or play games. Some of these type of songs are just too much chest thumping or cheesy vibe. This isn't. And the end? Where after each line repeats, an instrument stops playing until its just the drums left. One of my favorites.
