  • This is a special case. You'll have to watch the video to see why it's a special case for us. The song invoked a visceral reaction for both of us. Viewer beware.

To move your song (or bourbon) to the front of the list, please bribe us by sending a bottle of bourbon, preferably one we haven't had on the channel yet, to:

The tears were real, she was going through a pretty nasty divorce at the time. Although she has stated that her husband wasn’t cheating, she did say that there are a million break up songs out there, but she had never heard one from “the other woman’s” perspective. Either way, she has an amazing voice! Check out “Something More”. Also, they were the band that was about to take the stage on the terrible Indiana State Fair stage collapse of 2011 where a few people lost their lives.

The tears were real. She was going through a divorce. The guitarist wanted to stop filming her, he couldn’t stand to see her in so much pain. They decided to continue. She wasn’t cheating in real life. She had heard Reba McEntire’s song Whoever’s In New England that deals with a wife being cheated on. Jennifer Nettles decided to write a song from the other side.

The reason this song resonates with me is that my husband would leave me every time his drug addiction called. I felt like the mistress in our marriage. This song gave me the strength to leave.

Those tears are real. Yes it’s from the other woman’s point of view. And yes she did leave him. I definitely don’t condone cheating….I’ve been cheated on too many times to count and I would NOT wish that on my worse enemy. But I love this song cuz of how powerful it is. And how it hits right in the feels. I commend you two for your honesty and your reaction. Thank you!!! I love your videos…you guys make me laugh and smile! Thank you!!!

The singer was in the middle of a divorce when this was recorded (that's why those tears seem so real... they are).

A song I'd recommend is "Stuck Like Glue" from Sugarland. I began to really appreciate Jennifer Nettles when I saw her in the movie Coat of Many Colors. I read somewhere that Jennifer Nettles was very emotional during the making of the video to Stay, and that they had to do several takes, but the guitar player finally said that's enough because she was in turmoil.

Honestly it is good to see two men with so much integrity that this song pissed you off so badly you deleted it. Then in revisting it you still hate the story.

I’m glad to see somebody actually see through the message of the song. Listening as a kid I always thought it was the wife… when I figured out she was the side chick it completely changed the song for me.

I’ve watched almost all your videos. Your reaction to this was exactly what I thought it would be.

One of their earlier songs that you may enjoy is called Baby Girl. I have to agree with y’all … I’ve never enjoyed this song…

The last verse makes it-- it's growth. When someone stands up and says I'm worth more than this sh!t. And growth hurts. I appreciate this song. Didn't mean I wasn't saying from the start the same things y'all did. If he cheats with you, he'll cheat on you. Hopefully the "character" will be smarter the next time around. And if we're taking songs... don't know that you'll get many for this one Marc Broussard Home. May be not traditional country but it does have train.

"Stuck Like Glue" is a great follow-up listen for a laugh, and an early hit, "Baby Girl" is pretty good.

Jennifer wrote this song because she wanted to write a song from the mistress pov and based it on the mistress in Reba's song Whoever's in New England (which you should also react to).

No hate at all... I am a very recent subscriber of yours. This is why people have opinions. The fact that you two are yourselves is why I continue to go back and watch previous recordings. I am enjoying your channel. Thank You!

  • @SilverbladeDagger

What I like is the differentiation of lines for each verse. She starts out begging the guy to stay with her and "WE don't have to live this way", then later "I don't have to live this way". She's going through changes from begging to "Hey, I don't have to be the other woman, you stay with her." It's like an epiphany caught in the middle of a song.

Just Might (Make Ne Believe) is a good one where you can hear her voice.
