nice episode, building rendmaw myself currently. For all interested: Grist is a creature if he is not on the battlefield, meaning when cast and while on the stack, he absolutely triggers rendmaw.
Yep - I suspect they mistook the "play a card" on rendmaw to mean "put onto the battlefield", rather than "play as a land or cast as a spell"
I'm also building rendmaw and I'm so excited for him.
I built him and played my first game with him 2 days ago. It is now my favorite deck to play. It’s a ton of fun.

I love the idea of brewing around the alternate commanders!
I believe casting Grist should trigger Rendmaw since Rendmaw triggers on "play" and while Grist is on the stack it is both creature and planeswalker.
This means Jerry should have had another bird and killed Elliot earlier. That subsequently would change how Bill plays the subsequent turn out because making more birds in 1v1 is bad.

As excited as Jerry was for the Lightning Ragers I feel it's important to note that they're not in fact goaded as many assume so there's a world in which players could have stopped attacking with them earlier in order to focus their efforts on the Lord of Pain.
However there's a very reasonable counterpoint that wasting funny damage like that is lame as heck which is fair enough!

Also worth pointing out that reducing your opponents' life points to zero is one of the conditions to win the game, and they were doing great on that front!

Grist actually works with Rendmaw! Grist works whenever he's not on the battlefield, Rendmaw is a play trigger (so basically cast)
Whether I agree with the bans or not I still love the content from this channel and thoroughly enjoy watching Jim play!

I got into goad a while back and my regular playgroup is terrified of combat.
The first time i played Rite of the Rafing Storm they were goaded but they arent, so they just let them sit and not attack.
Rendmaw is actually RIGHT of the Raging storm. It is that card done exceedingly well. One of the coolest card designs ive seen in a long time.

Pretty sure casting Grist triggers Rendmaw. Grist is a Planeswalker Creature while on the stack, and that is when Rendmaw triggers for spells.
You don't have to attack with the lightning Ragers if you don't want to.
so im like 99.9% certain grist would trigger rendmaw cause rendmaw says play and not when the card enters meaning that when you play grist she is on the stack and thus would be seen as a creature and a planes walker for the purposes of rend maws ability
just took a quick look at the rules for the keyword play and this seems applicable
701.14b To play a card means to play that card as a land or to cast that card as a spell, whichever is appropriate.
that means in this case rendmaw is either activly looking for itself to enter or activly looking at weather or not you are casting or in the case of lands like vault of whispers playing them to make eveyone birds.
which also means you always make birds regardless of weather or not the spell resolves
