Ah yes, the format I don't play, barely know anything about, and still find enjoyment watching occasionally.
Heartily agreed
I wish I played this format if only I could convince my friends to build decks
You’re in good company, I think I’ve played 2 games of CanLander ever
So true
oh my god someone actually made magic content this week that isn't about the commander situation
Oh my god so real I'm so sick of hearing everyone's recycled opinions about the bans
Just popping in to say that since it's inception, North 100 Showdown has been my favourite MTG gameplay show by an absurd margin. Some of the coolest games, excellent commentary from the players, really fun to watch... just tippiest-top tier stuff.
The commentary and postgame discussion is so peak
since it is inception
It brings me back to when I was playing regularly and particularly two pals I would play with that similarly wanted to play higher level Magic but also have some fun with it and even talk through plays during and after games. This show is the best and it vicariously brings me some of the joy Magic used to.
Them explaining their play patterns makes this show so incredible.

thank you for having me its great to comment here

Thanks for replying here. It's great to reply to your reply.
"All is right with the world."
Oh past Wheeler. Future Wheeler envies you.
Serge the premier lands pilot of the format and the premier enchantress pilot of the format uniting both archetypes into one deck. Cant wait till wheeler brings flying men eggs
The contrast between Serge's joyful enjoyment of the game and Wheeler's spikey hamster wheel trying to spin enough to figure out how to win/protect the combo is always great. Thanks for uploading great games!
As someone that plays dredge in commander... I embrace the spiky hamster wheel energy. This show rocks
found your channel two or three weeks ago and literally binge-watched all those North 100 Showdown videos, and I gotta say that Ben Wheeler became one of m favorite mtg creators! Also much love to Serge!
Two 3 color decks not running Mox Mox Mox as their points! This format is good again
To be fair, triple mox usually ain't a good decision for any (non creature) combo deck.
It's incredibly endearing to see Serge's hand subtly shake when he's going off and going for the win. You can feel his adrenaline rush!
Excellent, as always. Thank you.
Only with LRR can you get both a PenPineappleApplePen joke and a Hawk Tuah joke in the same place

In a world of commander, I am so excited to see this newest episode of North 100 Showdown (a Canadian Highlander throwdown)
Thank you for posting.
It's great to watch here.
I love to watch two control decks passionately stare across the table at each other and take 5 minutes to not change the board state (truly I do love it though)
Canadian highlander really is the ideal constructed format. The power of legacy with the silliness of singleton, and the games are of reasonable length because it's 1v1 with 20 life. If only I had other people to play with
The discord has lots of ways to play with others, everything from MTGO matches, to webcam.
I appreciate that the play button is in the right place on the logo
So glad to see a new episode today. I’m in the recovery zone of Helene and have been watching past episodes to keep my spirits up. Thanks for all the great content, LRR!
Yet again I have to say this is some of the best magic content online - I love it, and it's made me try to push canlander on my friends
42:25 it is pay 2 because you gain 2 from the 2 landfall triggers, lose 1 from fastbond and pay 1 to fetch, so that’s equal meaning the shock from the shockland is as much as usual
Fastbond doesn't hurt you for lands that enter without being played, the shocklands were fetched for, not played so fastbond doesn't do damage. So pay 2 life and gain one for druid class
@@magnetronman298 here’s the line that is repeated for each fetch:
play fetch from yard
take 1 from fastbond
gain 1 from Druid Class
pay 1 to fetch
the land you fetched enters
gain 1 from Druid Class.
As you can see from this non shockland example you are left at the same life total as usual, so there’s no reason shocking in a shockland wouldn’t leave you behind on 2 life like it always does
@@magnetronman298 get got
The problem I've always had with A + B synergy decks is that it's much easier to deny either A or B than it is to deny each piece of a more value-oriented deck.
I love when I think my computer crashed but its just Wheeler's intro
You've never seen this channel before. You're going into the comments to see the vibe.
These two are highly skilled, haymaker throwing competitive players that are both so lovely and happy to talk through bad beats, alternate strategies in a game.
Never played this format but getting closer and closer each episode.
Watch 'em.
This deck is gonna love that new crucible of worlds that is an enchantment. The two archetypes truly are merging
(Edit) I thought about it and not being able to return the enchantment to play with Sevinne's Reclamation because it has a higher mana value is a big deal
The classic Serge casting a Life from the loam with plains and tundra
Engagement for having me, it's algorithm to be here.
In the light of the recent chaos in the magic community I’m more happy than ever about the existence of Canadian Highlander
This is slighly unrelated but eariler today the apple-pen meme jumped into my head and surge did his deck explanation thing i felt heard.
So kind of chewbacca to come do the opening for Wheeler! ☺️
Judge! Not that it really matters, but in game 2, Serge should be losing 2 life per shockland not 1, since he also has to pay 1 each time to crack the fetch, so its +1 -3 = -2 if he wants them untapped. Again, doesnt really matter here, just a small correction.
You gain life from fetching the shock so it's +1-1+1-2=-1 though if the fetch is from fastbond it is -2
@@neozyxn At the point where he's looping through all the lands in his deck, which is when he gets the shocks and talks about the life payment, all the land plays are from fast bond (all of them are except the first land played in the turn). In that case, it's:
Play fetch: +1 (druid class) -1 (fastbond)
Crack fetch: -1 (fetch)
Get shock: +1 (druid class) -2 (shock)
Overall it's still net -2
I agree, I don't think the life was correct there. He because of the Fastbond he's still be losing one life per fetch since each land entering is neutral but the cost for the ability isn't negated by anything. Same with the Shocks, entering is neutral but nothing negates the 2 life cost.
@@BenjaminKlahn the neutrality comes from paying 1 life for the fetch, not for having the shock enter, since fastbond only cares about lands played not lands entering. For instance, if he cast rampant growth or fetched evolving wilds, he would be +1 life.
Simultaneous shuffling 20/10
@19:35 using tundra and plains to cast loam was pretty fun.
"Top, Draw, Spin on that thang" needs to be the next button phrase.
I'm tired of it too, but it's just too good
Love this series, love how friendly the players are with each other. Willing to discuss plays and thought processes, then provide constructive feedback.
Love a new showdown episode. Maybe writing out this intrusive thought will help stop it popping up every time I hear the card name. "the batman of zur-en-orrb."
Thanks for infecting me with that, friend
Great to see the premier Enchantress pilot of the format in their element here
I will never doubt Wheeler again. for the rest of this video
“ Top Druah, spin on that thang” now irreversibly added to my Magic pilled ape brain
I really love "Oh good, Druid Class, not something terrifying"
...
[dies to Druid Class level 3]
I love you guys. Please keep doing this.
Excellent games from excellent players.
Idk when this was recorded but seeing them in shorts and t-shirts meanwhile im under 2 blankets hits different xD
This was different and fun
Shifting woodlands is sick as hell
I love the touch of the pop-up achievement. 😊
a PPAP reference in the year of our Lord 2024 was not on my bingo card today
Shock and pass: Spooky, just in time for spooky month
"Pauls just a substitute" And Wheeler was never seen again on North 100
In this episode of LRRMTG; North100 showdown (a Canadian highlander throwdown);
Paul says the line.
Wheeler thanks us for being here.
Serge loses the die roll.
top draw spin on that thang is pretty good wheeler
Loved Teferi bouncing Urza doubt I would have ever considered that line (though I don't generally touch control so I'm not surprised I missed it)
Thank you for having me, it’s great to algorithm here ❤️
sure looks like a serge deck. love it :D
Just realized that Wheeler could've derailed Serge's combo-off turn in Game 2. First time he gets a priority window in response to a Druid Class trigger, he can play Silence, wait for it to resolve, hold priority, and then Sink into Stupor the Fastbond. Silence prevents the Fastbond replay until EoT, and Wheeler gets another untap step to hold up counters and keep the Fastbond from coming into play again.
Thank great it's to having here me. :)
Serge's soul gaze is unmatched
Hell yeah, please more control on the channel, especially if wheelers piloting it. (or channel-mirror)
Wtf I had no idea that's how Sevinne's flashback rules are. I just thought the copy was immediately made..
Not to sound too ignorant but I feel like that's not really intuitive, can someone explain why the flashback card has to resolve first before it makes a copy?
Edit: oh I'm stupid. Because it's literally a line in the text of the card, if that card doesn't resolve it doesn't happen. I think that's mostly why?
Yeah, if there was another ability that said “when you cast this spell from your graveyard, copy it…” then you’d have both the original and the copy on the stack at the same time, as that would be an ability triggered by the casting of the spell rather than the effect of the spell that is trying to resolve.
New North100! Yay!
I know Serge has the Ninjas meme, but I really feel like this Enchantress deck needed more Enchantresses. at 4 + Presence it feels like you've got all the bad enchantments that normally fuel the deck but you dont have enough critical mass of names to get that 1~2 enchantresses to pop off. if we're adding Blue the new one from Duskmorn with flash seems worth it since you can force it out on their end phase.
With the discussion around whether casting the Preordain was correct, in my mind, not playing the Preordain is mathematically correct. Because Serge was not making the land drop and was relying on the 3rd card of his library being a blue source for the Preordain to be worthwhile, he could've waited, spun top in Wheeler's end step, and then put the blue source on top if it was there. In that scenario, he has the extra blue for certain, letting him then Preordain the bad cards to the bottom while definitely leaving blue up.
I think the mistake in Serge's last turn was spinning Top after the Preordain. I agree that clearing the top 2 dead cards with the scry is super important, but Serge isn't going to draw a card before his next turn. Hold up the Trop and Woodland for Remand and spin Top on Wheeler's endstep if you don't need to Remand.
Top is a very finnicky card.
Can we get a "Here's Some Money" Patreon tier?
Serge! You're missing the greatest new card for your hybrid archetype: Walk-In Closet is an enchantment Crucible of Worlds.
At first, I was somewhat surprised Brokers Hideout isn't in Serge's deck. I know he runs only 5 basics, but if he gets Crucible + Fastbond without a finisher, it's at least free ramp, and it's infinite life with Ranger's Class (I know, that's a 4-card combo, but it's a back-up combo). However, I guess there are other lands that are simply better most the time. Going through the deck list, there's nothing that could easily be cut. I also forgot that lands from Brokers Hideout enter tapped.
I also forgot that fetch lands are life-neutral because you get 2 land ETBs, not one.
Can Wheeler teach a Shyriiwook class? I would love to learn from such an expert in the language
A silly idea. If Serge wants to be able to deal with Thassa's decks with the one he's running, cephalid coliseum is always an option as an out.
Game 2 bounce fastbond with sink into stupor, counter fastbond with force of negotiation
top draw spin on that thang is gonna haunt me forever
Love the pineapple apple pen ref
Could you do an episode of the podcast about how to build a canlander deck? Ive been interested in getting into it with my friends but we dont really know how to build our own decks
I feel like a value Spellseeker would have been fine for Serge's 10th point. Balance, crop rot/sylvan scrying, life from the loam, some kind of interaction all seem like useful gets. I don't think Sensei's Divining Top is doing much in his deck, so that'd probably be my cut
When they talked about Syphis I misheard it as Phthisis and was very confused
Wheelers deck makes me feel better about the current all creatures with etbs state of magic
at the end of game 2 when wheeler saw a blue card in top 3 off top (before start of combo) couldnt he have sunk the fastbond then flipped top for the blue card to pitch cast fon on in on the way back down
taaaaiiiiiiiiiinted pact...dada...taaaaiiiiinted pact
I love watching this game, I could NOT play it! LOL
wheeler i thought “spin on that thang” was pretty good
banger game 2
I vote Serge calls his deck Enlandtress
Fastest click in the west
Top, draw, spin on that thang was pretty good. That's a bad meme generally, though.
I too am an enjoyer of yawgmoths jacuzzi/jacuzzi on commission so please wheeler play it!
23:46 sorry, a question about tainted pact. How does it work with basic lands? Or is Wheeler sure that there are no two of the same in his deck?
I wonder how serge thinks of the new blue enchantress
Yes, we spin TUah on that deck.
Hands down best magic format. Auto battler cube is probably 2nd best.
I am disappoint at the lack of Backstreet’s Back at 31:50…
EDIT: Alright, 32:20 saved it…
Ben wheeler I don’t think things with spin on that thang are anything actually
But what did Wheeler name with Consult?
Top, draw, spit on that thing!
Be careful with your next point change up boys or Maro might have to take over as supreme chancellor of Canlander.
7:33 silly ben, you know that magic players aren't capable of shuffling sufficiently.
Let’s gooooo
Always love the games! But man, control vs control is some of the most grindy slow kind of games I've seen. I'd struggle to get new players into the format with that but I understand it's a healthy part of the game.
That wookie edit 🤣
Enbantress
sorry Wheeler but Hawk Tuah only got more annoying in the time between recording and upload
it's probably never going away now
With the crucible, fastbond, druid class shenanigans, doesn't Serge still lose one life everytime fetches? I don't think it mattered in that game, but just wondering
No, fastbond only makes you lose life on played lands. So lose 1 to cracking the fetch, gain one from the land it brings in, but don't lose 1 to fastbond b/c it isn't a played land.
Ah yes serge is playing no way he’s playing fast bond and crucible in his deck? 😏
