Great video. I have just a few observations. It ´s a pity that you didnť calculate the Nihlatak runs (how much time to get 99 in max speed). You spoke about it, but the final time for really fastest run could be really intresting. ( You know, lot of teleporting, pindl kill, no WP in halls of pain..). What our group used to say 15 years ago was to never play drunk. The Next day you think you got hacked because all your gear is gone. Because you gave it all away to some low level who asked really nicely.
Nice tips, most everything here is correct except you're missing one "secret" tip that nets you more exp than anything else by far. Spoiler: Ancients. 1.4m on normal, 20m on Nightmare, and 40m on Hell. And these are NOT CUT by your character level penalty and are instead flat experience gain. On multiplayer you can skip all 3 ancient quests, on singleplayer you can save Hell ancients (just run CS and other stuff until 98) and then right when you hit 98 you can ancients for an instant ~15% of your journey to 99. Great vid db!
I failed to do lvl99 in D2 but I did double 50 in D1. I'm old and I don't have enough strength and desire to do it. I'm a little inspired by what I see here. Regards. D1 fan from Poland
Is there a specific benefit to being level 94? I'm almost 91 now, pure Blizzard, single player, haven't even done hell Ancients. Not sure my build can. Grinding pindle now, seems to take 500 runs or so to level. Hoping to get to 93 because I think it helps gambling amulets. Or is that 94?
@@lg6707 Imagine to invest 140 - 200 hours of boring grind just to get 1 level. Cant imagine ever to do that. The only reason i checked this video is to understand what insane lenghts people go to to archieve this crown archievement of pointlessness.
I hit 99 once back in like 2005 lol, windforce bowazon. It was back when the cow level ruled! 😀 No hex or duped items either as far as I know (I did trade for windforce). Since then I had a 98 hammerdin, but that's as close as I got. Watching those videos makes me want to redownload the game, thanks man!
I remember doing this. Bowazon and Javazon rulled D2 on Cow Lvls. Was really easy to 99 on vanilla. Otherwise on LoD was a real grind. I did the same, never reached lvl99, the max was a 98 hammerdin that I used to farm runes and torches, did until my fingers fall off and never reached close to 99, mostly because I died a lot on those runs.
Dont kill the king!!! I loved my bowazon back then. I remmeber oxy rings back in the day being a broken hacked item online. Frozen orb scorc everywhere in cow runs. If anyone is unsure, oxys were the occulus stats on Stone of Jordan.
I played last 2004. When life needs to get serious, I stopped, get a job, get married, have kids.. Fast forward 17 years, now I work at home and I'm playing Diablo 2 Single Player again in 2021. It now plays in Windows 10. I still have my D2s characters. I remember saving it on a 3.44 floppy diskette when I still don't have a PC and would play to a friend's house or internet cafes.
What does it say about the brilliance of this games design that in 2018 people are still making videos about it? Not just about the game or it's design, but about playing it well? That's a monument to all Blizzard North's achievements.
Pretty much everyone that played it would like a remake/remaster with a thriving community like it had back in the day. The fact it's still being played and discussed proves this game is one of a kind.
Totally agree, thats what makes a good game is sheer complexity of the choices you have yield so many possibilities that people are still coming up with new builds and this where xp gain is not such an open and shut discussion.
I was 16 when LOD was released in summer of 2001. It was revolutionary at the time because the multi player option with people from all over the world. Graphics seem dated now but then it was crisp and controls were super responsive. To date there are not many arpgs that has as many APM as D2 due to teleport. I did a visu/spatial test and scored top 0.01% among hundred of thousands of testers, it is to measure pattern similarity between geometric objects. I am sure D2's fast play style and competition for drops in multi player is a factor in this high score. Diablo was a mini economy with real value for the time invested, I never did real money trading but it extended beyond a game in early 2000's, it was a new frontier in digital. But it stagnated with WOW and alot of dupes and hacks in the end of 2004 or a year or so after 1.10 release. And of course departure of blizzard north. Who could have known that this period became the golden age of arpg's? And now this old online civilization is gone to history.
Agree try not to die.. think you lose 10% XP if you die.. and if you get your body you recover 8%. (that 2% could be hours of runs at end game levels 95+)
*Spoiler alert* The fun ends when you actually reach lvl 99! I used a D2 trainer to set my char to lvl 99, and it really does not mean much, except that it is the highest level achievable. Play D2 for the journey, not the destination.
Except once you reach the destination you usually don't go back and forth to reach it again, games over around level 50, why grind after you beat the game 3 times?
my east account is 13 years old and my max lvl toon is lvl 95, most of my toons i don't lvl past lvl 92. Ive been playing diablo2 since 2002, but got into online play in 2005. I made my toons on east in the summer of 2007 and have been there since.
I feel like level 99 is intentionally incredibly slow to obtain, so there’s a still something to strive for. It’s nice to have another goal to work towards in these kind of games. Once I have the best of the best, and maxed stats, I lose motivation soon thereafter.
I'm old enough to remember when it didn't take thousands of runs to level up. This is insanity. Real D2 veterans remember patch 1.09 before synergies made it impossible to have well-rounded characters.
Hey man, thanks for this video. It inspired me to get to level 99. I just finished it. It took me about 5400 runs. I also used seal open trick where every monster dies if you do it right. The drops were amazing. These were the runes I found: 14xpul, 12xum, 12xmal, 10xist, 9xgul, 2xvex, 5xohm, 3xlo, 3xsur, 1xber, 5xjah, 5xcham. Now I just need to finish my holy grail :)
To me it was teenage memories ( Diablo 1 in 95 is what made me improve my learning of english since there was no other version available in the begining )
Hitting this vid up with Diablo 2 resurrected coming out, (currently in beta). I guess now I know why I never made it past level 97. Always wanted to max that character but it's pretty crazy how many boss runs you have to do. I think one thing you didn't mention is how much experience you lose when you die, You could easily lose a whole days work in 1 death at level 97 so I can only imagine it's worse at 98. Good luck.
It's such a chore. Just the thought of it makes me exhausted. Like so many of us have, I did give it a try one season. I gave it my best and made it to ~97,5 before I admitted defeat. I didn't return for 1,5-2 years and I swore to never try that again.
The only one i remember for D2 Classic HC was the Battle between GERbarb and RUSbarb. Where two Teams played 24/7 for several Days nonstop farming the CS and i think they were the first who ever reached lvl99 in Classic. Its alot easier in LoD, but still takes some time..
Ah back in the days when leveling was alot simpler! I only got to level 92 in 1.09 as I was very mutch a casual player trying loads of builds. In d2r I'm making my 1st real attempt at 99, just over half way through 98... oh yeah forgot its boring as hell lol 😆
I love the dedication in your gaming and in your videos. alot of respect for all this. My life will forever be incomplete if i never get a diablo 2 lod character lvl 99 . Now i can proceed, thank you
@@stonemove4207 I see. How quickly things can change in just a few years. I understand, priorities change, it is, what it is. Wishing you luck in your new objectives :)
For single player, Nihla is the best choice bar none. I completed the grind to 99 with my barb in about 100 hours thanks to him, but I had to sacrifice the Pindle portal. Anyhow I know of people who could do it even faster (like 75 hours) with their sorcs, so I'd strongly reconsider running Nihla if I were you. Good luck!
@@Dbrunski125 nothing groundbreaking, copy pasting from my 99 thread on diabloii: "off the top of my head: Gris caddy and shield, Biggin's bonnet, Torch of Iro, 2x 30%mf Nagelrings, eth Skullder's, the whole M'avina's set, 2 Nightwings, 2 Dragonscales, tons of shakos, mara's, arachs, and keys, I've even had triple key drops, cool stuff." And then there were high runes, highest was jah. Keep in mind I was only killing Nihla with conc, pretty sure you'll get more goodies by killing some random minions with your lightnings.
When Lord of Destruction first came out, the exp penalties didn't exist, so it took a pretty short amount of to hit level 99, so it wasn't actually much of an achievement.
@@mifdsam yup so those who played int he early years, had advantage to hit 99. Once exp penalties came in you would see people barely hitting lvl 90, most people would stop lvling at lvl 87 and would duel.
They shouldn't. The whole point as to why it takes so absurdly long to get level 99, is so that only the most, erm, dedicated players will work towards attaining such an unimportant goal.
Back in the day, I used to join Baal runs with my Lite Sorc and would clear chaos before they got to the minion waves. I was able to gain the benefit of the Baal exp and the Chaos P8 exp solo in the same timeframe as a Baal run, which helped me avoid realm downs while still being extremely efficient.
Well now I feel bad about it :) but in 1.09 i always was getting "Wirts Leg" and then join a cowrun or make one. While people were debating who will get the leg I had it already opened in a corner so people who would be in center of town wouldnt see. With a Nova sorc it took me I think just around 1:30 min to clear, fun times in 1.09.
You can even further improve Baal XP gain in Single Player. Setup: Just search for a good map with a lot of shrine spots in act 1 close to wps to optimize chance for a xp shrine. (I have a map with 4 spots close to Dark Wood wp, 2 spots close to Stony wp. In 95% of cases I get what I want. In 95% of all other cases I get it in another 13 shrines in Cold Plains + Blood Moor) Procedure: 1. Kill Baal waves on p8 followed by Baal on p3. 2. Get Baal all the way down to a few life points. 3. Make a tp and quickly go for that xp shrine 4. Quickly reenter tp and immediatly kill baal with 1-2 hits so he cannot curse you. In 90% of he wont curse you and you make 103,9k xp per baalrun in 4m10s average which is 1,496M per hour. Of course you can also use xp shrine before killing diablo. He won't curse you. Its even faster. But for me CS runs are less safe than Baal runs and also Baal gives better chances completing my holy grail mission. Right now I'm on 3,439 billion xp and thus ~72% done to 99 while 22 items remaining.
XP shrines are kind of useless in Hell difficulty as you get cursed all the time and witches and Baal curse with lower defence. Good idea if you don't get cursed.
It's not just an idea. I'm running this way since 98 and it's totally worth it. Since baal has only few hp left before using xp shrine he has no time to curse you.
my highest char was 97 pally on classic hc which was the highest classic hc character during a ladder ever before the redvex a5 hack got that during 1.11
Gerbarb level 99 took around 3 month with a core team of around 30 people and around a hundred of supporters. Zycu, one of the founders donated great gear from the start, back when there was no rune words and perfectly rolled rares were the best items. It was so much fun to see a team of 6 players get diablo down to a sliver of health, gerbarb entering the game, take a tp to an exp shrine provided by the seventh player, kill diablo in 5 seconds and then move on to the next game.
From my bnet experience, here's the optimal path I took. Have a team of 8 players, One person clears chaos. One person teleports to throne. (Optional) One person finds you an xp shrine. Your path : Nihlathak on p8 Diablo is ready (grab shrine if it's ready there) then head to throne for wave 3 - Kill baal. That's about 90k-100k exp per game
I’ve never played a character beyond level 60 that had teleport. It looks confusing and takes out the fun of smashing monsters. Maybe I’m not cerebral enough for this level of play. I’m still having fun. It’s a great game
I know right? This sort of thing takes all the fun right out of it for me. 140 hours just doing the same exact thing 5000+ times over to increase some arbitrary number in a video game? No thanks I have a life.
@@BigUriel Yeah, this is why I think you really shouldn't play D2 Lod without mods, at least not single player. When you use mod that remove all those stupid exprience penalties, game is actually playable. Without exp penalties you are around 80 when you complete hell difficulty and it take maybe 15-20 hours per character to get your character from 80 to 99. Then add some loot mod and you are actually finding good stuff.
@@piaxerofchaos1309 If you're removing penalties and giving yourself loot mods - you might as well download a lvl99 save with epic hacked gear and be done, LMAO. PlugY is enough for a very enjoyable game.
@@TheUltimateBlooper Why? I enjoy playing the the game. Grinding is just stupid in D2 without mods. I mean, I want to get all my characters to level 99 and I want to get good stuff for my characters, but I don't have hundreds or thousands hours free time. In original D2, it take something like 140 hours to level up ONE character from level 98 to 99 with fastest possible way. Normal way it could be like 200 hours from level 98 to level 99. That is just stupid and I really don't enjoy grinding hundreds of hours just for couple of levels. But why in holy hell would I just download level 99 save with hacked gear? Where is fun with that?
@@dire_prism baal runs are only worth it to kill Baal himself xp wise. Unless you got a group going that kills his minions while you clear out chaos and dia
Hello. You play well and explain your actions. Claims to the video there is no, but here's one question tormented: you do not get bored for hours to play on the same locations, the same characters that are already the most developed?
I think it's more like 25 seconds per Nihlathak run using the Halls of Vaught wp, if you factor in Telekinesis-ing the town wp instead of running across town to the portal.
But adding fatigue and other factors? But yes i agree super solid runs would be that quick. I just tried to make over all values average out over like 100 plus runs. Know what i mean. Thanks for the feedback tho :)
Yeah, I just wanted to point it out. It's cold math tho -- if I went for 99, I would've still preferred CS, cause it's more fun and Diablo would net more drops. :)
@@i_am_ergo yup and i appreciate the feedback I really do. You guys make me smarter by adding info or correcting small mistakes. Thanks for watching buddy
As you've said: There is no substantial XP gain from other monsters than Diablo, Nila and Baal, so why do you even bother with players 8 on Baal's waves? Killing W3 and W5 on players 8 takes much longer than on p1. You could also - as a lightning sorc - pre cast a "carpet" of Charged Bolts into the spawning waves, which (especially on /p1) would kill the minions of W1 and 2 on sight, preventing them from spreading and thusly leaving your LS piercing lines. Also running on p1 would allow for either more defensive gear or let's you switch CtA in your off-hand for Ondals. So on a rough estimation: Spread out mobs on W1 & 2 cost like 4-5 seconds each. On W3 Bartuc lived 6-7 longer than the last hydra; W4 just melts on either setting, so there shouldn't be much difference. And on W5 you might win another 4-5 seconds. So P1 instead of p8 on Baal's waves might save roughly 20 seconds or be 10% more quickly. Also you could get 115% more xp, instead of 110% (Ondals) and you can equip Items, which have charges for Dim Vision / Slower Missiles / Cloak of Shadows to prevent W3 from casting Hydras at all (not sure if this works in single player) to win even more time. So this is how it works: If you cast one of these spells at the moment Wave 3 spawns, they dont cast their inital hydras. KoKoMal in a shield should be the most appropriate item for that (60 charges of Slower Missiles and good defensive stats). You should be able to reach 117 FC w/o spirit nontheless (40 Hoto, 25 Griffons, 20 Arach, 20 Mages, good craft amu (12 or rather 15 FC), or bad craft amu and FC ring). So with these tricks combined you might cut 15-20% of the overall time, thus 175h instead of 212h - still more than CS runs though :)
I can't remember the exact numbers because it has been so long since we did it, but I helped a friend bit 99 on his Amazon using my 96/97 Hammerdin. I believe it took us close to 3 Months to get him from 98-99. We did all sorts of testing to try to find the "best" exp the fastest (On Bnet). The absolute best was I would use my Uber Smiter & a bunch of Organ Sets to keep doing Torch Runs. We had a friend who bought a ton of them from a website so we could farm torches to sell. LMFAO But he would go find an Exp Shrine somewhere in Act 1, I believe Stony Field or Black Marsh was good for finding them usually. I would go in & lure Meph to the bottom & start beating on him while I was waiting for him to find the Shrine. Once he did & came in, I would kill off Mephisto. Then I would try to lure Baal over on the right & kill him. My friend had to make sure to stay far enough away to not get Cursed & lose the Shrine's effect, but still close enough to get Exp. Then I would kill Diablo last to get the Torch. If my memory serves me correctly, he said it was somewhere around 120-150K Exp & depending on how long it took him to find an Exp Shrine, we're talking like 2 mins. max for 1 run maybe. My Smiter was/is the best at Ubers you can get for not using an Anni/Torch. (I designed a build so I would always be able to pick up Torch in Ubers or Anni if DClone spawned in a Public Game) Now of course that isn't extremely practical because you would either have to buy mass amounts of Organ Sets from a store, if those even still exist, or you would have to invest the time to farm them yourself. Just wanted to throw that out there for you. :)
unfortunately i can say ive had 4 different battle net characters hit 99 in my years and have let them get deleted from lack of play. diablo 2 was my life for almost half my life love this game and love that people are still enjoying it
Nice rundown for players getting to into the 99 grind! However, I think it's important to reiterate that (for SP at least) Nihlathak is significantly faster than both CS and Baal. Yes it is more dangerous and yes you need to judge some situations, but for most characters the difference is rather massive (e.g. CS/Baal can mean some 50% more time spent). EDIT: Lightning Sorc can run him in under 20 seconds on P8, quite some difference. :)
yup proves my point most people did that, they would hit lvl 85-87 and gear up and go dueling. If you looked at most duel games the average player was about lvl 85, with maybe 1-2 lvl 90+ players in the game.
Well, if you play on battlenet the Baalrun not really keep more than one and half minute. Because the damage boost significant with 8 players. If you get one-two hammerdin to the party, that animals kill everything within a minute. So, on battlenet you can count one Baalrun average time one and half minute. Sometimes less.
Hey dude, I've not long found your channel (about 2 weeks ago) but after binge watching your videos lately I subbed and Bought D2+LoD again. I grew up playing this game and after 12yrs away from it, it feels AMAZING to be back on!!! Currently have a 24 Druid in Act IV and a level 15 necro just starting Act II. Keep up the great content and hope to catch a live stream at some point (do you have a schedule?)
I’d rather run Baal even though it takes longer because your way more likely to get a good drop. Grinding exp in chaos is extremely boring... at least Baal, your likely to get an HR or endgame drop off the Baal spawns.
Sorry made this comment from my gf's account first . I gotta ask...Why can you pop seals from miles away but in my game seals need to be stood on top of to get them to activate, there's even one that depending on the map you HAVE to go to the back side to activate it...
I have to applause dbrunski for doing maths. Although i would say that taking halls waypoint would make a huge difference. I see why you don't want to take it (for you the opportunity to kill pindle is way more important as this is an opportunity to create content). However I was able to get ~28 seconds average runs over the course of 140 nihlathak runs with the portal taken. That would give me a bit over 90 hours to get 99. Say 100 hours when counting fatigue, and let's say 1 unrecovered death adds 10 more hours, so 110. That is with griffons though, i imagine it would be significantly worse without (you cannot even use crescent moon cuz FCR will suffer), and then lightning enhanced nihlathak just becomes a big pain.
I hate how this 1.5 gb game deletes your characters if you don't log onto them in a given amount of time. I lost 3 level 99s, and literally thousands maybe 10s of thousands of dollars worth of gear/inventory that I accumulated over a decade of playing.
I think we did uber trist, couple of hammerdins, spam hammers, penny to lock the hotkey. Someone would kill all except mephisto, and lock him into a hoise or something. He would keep spawning minions, and all the hammer would kill them before they got to you. Leave overnight, go to work, done.
Diablo 2 was such a big part of my childhood..I poured THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of hours into that game as a kid..And I never ONCE reached level 99. I think the highest i got was 97 or 98. It is such a grind and takes so much dedication for those extra few levels..Its not remotely worth it..its almost absurd they even made it so difficult to achieve. But I love them for doing it lol. D2 was all about bragging rights. If you were a lvl 99, slaughtering everyone in PvP.. that mustve felt damn good. Sadly I'll never know :'(
Hep bro very nice video and well done 👍🏻 I want you to ask something! I ‘m note able to find a video on UA-cam to show us How to get a tourch ( torch , the charm that you can only have 1 in your inventory) what you need to get it and how you can do it ? Look like you need keys to merge in your cube ! Where you get those keys? It will be appreciated thanks 🙏
Its so easy but yet time consuming this is what the term "grind" originated from i had all the characters lvl 99 on b.net not open b.net and not cheaging on single player.
Ok.. so about 144 hours to go from level 98 to level 99. That's more than 3 months playing 2 hours per day, 5 days a week. Instead you could actually level yourself up and learn new skills. It takes roughly 20 hours to be competent at something new, you could learn 7 new skill for the one character that you will play your entire life. ua-cam.com/video/5MgBikgcWnY/v-deo.html
I remember going for my first lvl 99 on BNet. Grabbing the EXP shrines posting up in a corner w my Anni and Ondals praying I don’t get cursed and lose my shrines or worse die.
I'm 98 Lv Hc, almost 99(91%). I'm doing chaos with my sorc, while i open throne with pala, put him in center to tank and my assa will clear the baal minions, while i'm doing chaos. After open all the seals, going a1, take shrine xp and go back to diablo, kill him and fast going to baal. Sometimes you might lose xp shrine against baal, because of his curse. Ah, before chaos, i always run nithalak, since i have 4.5k hp with boo from baba and 51% dr from my build.
So considering how the bosses themselves give the most xp, would it be best to have a likeminded group run splits on reaching the three bosses, and then have the whole party TP to them to kill them all in short time? For instance, some go to the throne to clear the waves and set up tp. 3 to chaos and each does a seal and sets up tp. someone goes to nithilak and uses tp. Remaining players can search for xp shrines for a minute. Then all Join the players in the throne, since they should take longest. Then all to nith. Then to Diablo. Then repeat. Maybe cycle the shrine hunters so it’s more evenly distributed xp. Side note - are XP shrines additive or multiplicative with ondals and anni? Edit: missed the entire battle.net strategy. My bad lol
we have a group of a solid 5 people with the other 3 being dedicated but not always on.we farm up basically the hot spots before the run even starts (andy , pit, cata, ancient tuns, trav, meph , pindle , shenk and eldritch. we tele to seals, open tp and top 2 (highest levels) take diablo xp in an 8player game. Then someone teleports to baal and we start the first 2/3 waves while the top 2 find xp shrines. then we top 2 baal aswell. usually all of us our the highest levels of our classes for the ladder reset. I was also the 99th like.
was the playerss x command patched in single player? cause i did a experiment with a level 1 paladin and noticed a quill rat gives 94 exp at lv 1 per kill, regardless of having "players 1" or "players 8"
I'm grinding my pally on bnet now solo, he just hit 98 and it seems like the xp bar isn't even moving. lol, But I did find my first ever Tmight armor in almost 20 years of playing this is the first time I found it on bnet playing solo.
Get game rushed to hell, until you ding 94, just group hell chaos runs with an ondals+anni (doing nothing), and kill nith. Once you hit 94, get an exp shrine and wait for nith + dia to be setup to kill. Once the tps to kill dia and nith are open, grab the exp shrine and kill them (solo in a p8 game.) At 98, do nm and hell ancients (normal if you want, it helps a little bit, you only get like ~100k exp a run so it saves a little bit of time.) The runs go as follows; wait for the team to setup nith+dia+baal, once they are setup, grab shrine and kill them all. If you are super quick, you can get the last wave of the Baal minions with the exp shrine and the ondals. Faster with bots obviously, this won't work without some kind of hacks anymore unless offline (where you can hack freely.) It's possible without hacks but it takes too many runs as a human and you will quit. It's ~20k diablo+baal+nith runs to go from 98 to 99 with out shrines/ondals/setup games in single player. If you attempt it, you are dumb. Level 99 characters, whether on bnet or single player, are always hacked, minus people who did it over years. It really does take years without hacks or a team of 7 other people who are willing to dedicate their lives to this stupid game... I did it multiple times with 64 cdkeys (honestly needed 128 since the games were 3 min so I had to use lobby timers) and bots on bnet (before the IP update where you need residential IPs) and it was a complete waste of electricity each time I did it.

I usually get drunk and do multiplayer Baal runs until I level up. The next morning, I dont even remember leveling up and I'm happy I gained a level.
Seems like a good way to pass the boredom.
dangerous in hardcore though...
friend of mine once woke up to see his char had died..
lol
Usually, I used to mute the game sounds and listen to my favourite songs instead or audio books..
The requirement of 144 hours... I'd need cocaine to endure that boredom.
Also, get Ondal's Wisdom on switch and Annihilus should've been mentioned. :)
Andrey Andreev
Dude, he mentioned both. The calculations are done with a 10% Anni in mind, but without Ondal's.
Yea that's an awesome point that I missed lol. Thanks dude!! :)
Mr Llama and DB are 2 of my favorite gamers. It makes me so happy to see this post.
So what is the "secret" tip?
I failed to do lvl99 in D2 but I did double 50 in D1. I'm old and I don't have enough strength and desire to do it. I'm a little inspired by what I see here. Regards. D1 fan from Poland
Diablo 1 was awesome:)
Don't feel bad, time investment is not really worth it past 94
Is there a specific benefit to being level 94? I'm almost 91 now, pure Blizzard, single player, haven't even done hell Ancients. Not sure my build can. Grinding pindle now, seems to take 500 runs or so to level. Hoping to get to 93 because I think it helps gambling amulets. Or is that 94?
@@unicyclepeon not sure about gambling odds I just meant the time taken to level gets heaps slower at lvl 94 so I'd hate to imagine what 95-99 takes.

Old school player!! Bloody foothill runs anyone?
I remember doing this. Bowazon and Javazon rulled D2 on Cow Lvls. Was really easy to 99 on vanilla. Otherwise on LoD was a real grind. I did the same, never reached lvl99, the max was a 98 hammerdin that I used to farm runes and torches, did until my fingers fall off and never reached close to 99, mostly because I died a lot on those runs.
Dont kill the king!!!
I loved my bowazon back then. I remmeber oxy rings back in the day being a broken hacked item online. Frozen orb scorc everywhere in cow runs.
If anyone is unsure, oxys were the occulus stats on Stone of Jordan.
damn, i remember those cow runs, and bowazons fucking owned everything. fun times. Yeah, and killing the Cow King was akin to sacrilege.

I watched the video and expected it to be from 2012 or something :D
Heartwarming that so many people still play this game :)
best 60 i've ever spent bought it day one still love it
Lol more people play this than Diablo 3 on pc...

1st tip - do not die :^)
True i die almost 13 times by diablo in nightmare difficulty and i havent kill him yet.

I feel like level 99 is intentionally incredibly slow to obtain, so there’s a still something to strive for. It’s nice to have another goal to work towards in these kind of games. Once I have the best of the best, and maxed stats, I lose motivation soon thereafter.
I'm old enough to remember when it didn't take thousands of runs to level up. This is insanity. Real D2 veterans remember patch 1.09 before synergies made it impossible to have well-rounded characters.

How to get level 99 "fast" in Diablo 2? lol you don't.

As a Classic Players i never reached 99. ^^
I never did either it's insane... Even more insane is people who done it on hardcore before there were even bots.
Been playing D2 for 20 years and I'm not even close to level 99
Man, I remember doing countless Hell Cow runs in order to get to 99.
Cow levels were just so much more fun, this is an undeniable fact since 1.09
Cows are what helped me get to level 99. Only done it once. every level after 95 is a feat in itself
Ah back in the days when leveling was alot simpler! I only got to level 92 in 1.09 as I was very mutch a casual player trying loads of builds. In d2r I'm making my 1st real attempt at 99, just over half way through 98... oh yeah forgot its boring as hell lol 😆

Anyhow I know of people who could do it even faster (like 75 hours) with their sorcs, so I'd strongly reconsider running Nihla if I were you. Good luck!
Ill consider it. What was your best drop from 100 hours of nilly grinding?

They should have given some cool bonus at 99 like unlocking more super bosses with unique drops, 3 levels of stats, another respec .... something.
They also used to send a reward package to the first person to hit 99 ladder season
@@crusher1980 so many assholes on D2 back in the day lmao
Cool! Now I need a guide on how to go from level 97 to 98!
You can even further improve Baal XP gain in Single Player.
Setup:
Just search for a good map with a lot of shrine spots in act 1 close to wps to optimize chance for a xp shrine. (I have a map with 4 spots close to Dark Wood wp, 2 spots close to Stony wp. In 95% of cases I get what I want. In 95% of all other cases I get it in another 13 shrines in Cold Plains + Blood Moor)
Procedure:
1. Kill Baal waves on p8 followed by Baal on p3.
2. Get Baal all the way down to a few life points.
3. Make a tp and quickly go for that xp shrine
I’m proud of you DB, that’s a lot of math for one video, great job
my highest char was 97 pally on classic hc which was the highest classic hc character during a ladder ever before the redvex a5 hack
got that during 1.11
mchammer? whiteisright?
I played HCCL that season with CoF on east. I got to 93 legit then used redvex for a5 lol. Was awesome to socket uniques.
Have a team of 8 players,
One person clears chaos.
One person teleports to throne.
(Optional) One person finds you an xp shrine.
Your path :
Nihlathak on p8
Diablo is ready (grab shrine if it's ready there)
then head to throne for wave 3 - Kill baal.
That's about 90k-100k exp per game
I’ve never played a character beyond level 60 that had teleport. It looks confusing and takes out the fun of smashing monsters. Maybe I’m not cerebral enough for this level of play. I’m still having fun. It’s a great game
Multiplayer: Get carried in Baal Runs
Single Player: Use Hero Editor
+7 to a all skill will help

This sort of thing takes all the fun right out of it for me. 140 hours just doing the same exact thing 5000+ times over to increase some arbitrary number in a video game? No thanks I have a life.
@@BigUriel Yeah, this is why I think you really shouldn't play D2 Lod without mods, at least not single player. When you use mod that remove all those stupid exprience penalties, game is actually playable. Without exp penalties you are around 80 when you complete hell difficulty and it take maybe 15-20 hours per character to get your character from 80 to 99.

Awesome vid. You have made my mind up. 99 druid here we come!! Good stuff db
I've had ONE actual 99 on closed bnet, and that was about....'07 I think? Unfortunately long gone.
So on a rough estimation:
Spread out mobs on W1 & 2 cost like 4-5 seconds each.
After how many yrs, i still love this game 😍
Very cool dude. Team work right there
unfortunately i can say ive had 4 different battle net characters hit 99 in my years and have let them get deleted from lack of play. diablo 2 was my life for almost half my life love this game and love that people are still enjoying it
On SP, Nihlathak runs are the fastest by a large margin and are very safe if you stack approximately 30 PDR vs. the Tomb Vipers.
always interesting to hear the breakdown. Good stuff
Very nice summary. You are real good infobase for d2 lod the best game ever made (in my way of thinking).
oh... i forgot... let´s jump in... :-)
Well put. I just dont like how dangerous he is lol :) ty for watching
The most I have ever levelled a character is 90. Usually I don't get past 86-87.
yup proves my point most people did that, they would hit lvl 85-87 and gear up and go dueling. If you looked at most duel games the average player was about lvl 85, with maybe 1-2 lvl 90+ players in the game.
What about uber bosses? lesser bosses from keys and uber trist?
On Battle net, what about the ubber trist skeletons farm with a hammerdin in party?
Wasn't that a thing back in the days?
it was removed
Dbrunski and math in one video, finally,
great video man :)
Might get to 99 from 95 in the next 2 years or so🤣 Awesome vid bud!💪🏼

I’d rather run Baal even though it takes longer because your way more likely to get a good drop. Grinding exp in chaos is extremely boring... at least Baal, your likely to get an HR or endgame drop off the Baal spawns.
Aaaaaah got it, the fastest way to get to 99 is to get to 98 first. Thanks, had a hard time with that one.
Awesome job, thank you for the info and research!
I half expected a "Video not found" gag.
Level 99 on D2 is one of those once in a lifetime achievements.
Its not
I feel like you were extremely biased against nihlathak runs but otherwise this was a really solid video, good math!!!
People about to blow this video up with D2R coming out.
I hate how this 1.5 gb game deletes your characters if you don't log onto them in a given amount of time. I lost 3 level 99s, and literally thousands maybe 10s of thousands of dollars worth of gear/inventory that I accumulated over a decade of playing.
in all my years of playing diablo 2, I never even got past level 97.
I think we did uber trist, couple of hammerdins, spam hammers, penny to lock the hotkey. Someone would kill all except mephisto, and lock him into a hoise or something. He would keep spawning minions, and all the hammer would kill them before they got to you. Leave overnight, go to work, done.
You can also use Ondal's Wisdom staff to get a bonus 5% exp
def a good point as well
Diablo 2 was such a big part of my childhood..I poured THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of hours into that game as a kid..And I never ONCE reached level 99. Sadly I'll never know :'(
It's not like that one extra skill point and 6 extra stat points is going to make that much of a difference in PVP, is it?
@@mifdsam nah it would make basically no difference at all. Like I said it's just for bragging rights.
Hep bro very nice video and well done 👍🏻
I want you to ask something!
Dr. Strange and Dormammu is a one-night stand, compared to the deep, abiding love that is shared by Baal and Dbrunski125.
boi. Now I know why I never capped at this game.
damn, that's a really cool video :O now im jealous i didnt consider making this one myself
That's why he gets all the followers and jah's.
BUT HAS HE GOT GRIFFONS EH? I THOUGHT SO.
lol, hey do u stream today ?
nop, not today, usually on the weekend
At least you have griffons😂
Heh, my highest level character was 92. That was back in the day though, v1.09.
Mexi Eskimo those were the golden days
Mine was level 98
Its so easy but yet time consuming this is what the term "grind" originated from i had all the characters lvl 99 on b.net not open b.net and not cheaging on single player.
Saw some of your videos. This made me reinstall d1 after 10 years. Nice channel. What are you using for map software?
Ok.. so about 144 hours to go from level 98 to level 99.
Yes, Light Sorceress or Javazon or Hammerdin are fast (but boring too), but other chars or other builds don't have much of a chance on 99 lvl.
My bad lol
Do you have a MF boost plugin? I am sure I run with more MF than you did and I rarely get Uniques in my runs.
I was thinking the same thing.....
well in ballruns you are looking for an xp shrine in act1 map 2 until the waves are over
we have a group of a solid 5 people with the other 3 being dedicated but not always on.we farm up basically the hot spots before the run even starts (andy , pit, cata, ancient tuns, trav, meph , pindle , shenk and eldritch. we tele to seals, open tp and top 2 (highest levels) take diablo xp in an 8player game. Then someone teleports to baal and we start the first 2/3 waves while the top 2 find xp shrines. then we top 2 baal aswell. usually all of us our the highest levels of our classes for the ladder reset. I was also the 99th like.
Your group is called "BOTS" ? lol
was the playerss x command patched in single player? cause i did a experiment with a level 1 paladin and noticed a quill rat gives 94 exp at lv 1 per kill, regardless of having "players 1" or "players 8"
What did he mean by "if you're willing to sacrifice your Pindle portal?" Does it disappear??
Apparently if you pick up a certain waypoint it will close perm on that difficulty
This is only the case for D2, doesn’t disappear in d2r
I'm grinding my pally on bnet now solo, he just hit 98 and it seems like the xp bar isn't even moving. lol, But I did find my first ever Tmight armor in almost 20 years of playing this is the first time I found it on bnet playing solo.
take EXP SHRINE !! 2:06 you must before you kill Diablo
Then his numbers would be skewed.
Jesus Christ that's a grind, you guys are animals. Came here because there's two level 99 trophies on D2R. Won't be getting that platinum.
Nice and informative video!
